Something I notice about so called "Entrepreneurs"

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 01:22 PM PDT

First and foremost, I would like to make it clear that I am not bashing on real entrepreneurs with real businesses and a clear head. I myself am a business owner and an entrepreneur.

However, I feel like in a lot of online communities with "entrepreneurs", there are a lot of people who are mental masturbators who haven't actually done anything. Most of these mental masturbators think attending university is worthless and proceed to lecture about "hustling" "grinding" etc without actually knowing much themselves.

They are no different than the corporate drones they like to make fun of. Anyways, enough of ranting.

I seriously believe entrepreneurship is like any other skill or a video game. The more you try and do, the more you learn, but it would be hell of a lot easier if you read the instruction manual / guide before doing something.

Things are not that black and white... You can't expect a single mother of 2 to suddenly quit her job and start "hustling" or "grinding" on her business. Every situation is unique.

    • In some cases, university can be a worthwhile investment of your money and time if you take the right classes, and actually know what you want out of it.
    • Sometimes working a few years in a corporate environment might actually give you some valuable insight into how business is done.
    • Maybe that minimum-wage job might actually give you some starting capital to start your business venture.

I‘ve failed once at a startup spending about 2,5 years full time on it. How do you guys hedge your bets to still derive some tangible value out of failed endeavors?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 04:31 AM PDT

I have plenty of ideas and also enough cash on the side to build new stuff and I really want to. But I'm in the constant fear that I will never build something of tangible value and will be much older at that time not having a career and not really being respected for anything or not feeling at piece with what I'm doing. Just not being at a place where I feel I have „arrived", if you know what I mean.

I think by hedging my bets maybe there can be strategies to build value even when failing, do you have any inputs on that?

I thought for example about building a followership along the way tweeting about whatever I'm working on. Even when failing I'd still have some followers which can help with all sorts of stuff.

But there must be other ideas?

Wondering if there is a remote desktop service that can be used for Mining Crypto?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 01:46 PM PDT

Hi guys, I have a question. It is maybe wishful thinking but I'm wondering if there are any services online where you can pay to use someone's desktop remotely to mine Crypto. I was just thinking as my nephew uses something called Shadow Cloud (I think it's called). He pays £15 a month and he can play all the newest PC games even on a crappy PC by remote connection. I said to him about using it for mining but apparently, it is against the company T+C's. I said to him to forget about it I get where the company is coming from but I was wondering if there is another service that allows this. I was thinking of mining something like Piratechain, Dogecoin or Zcash - I know that Bitcoin is like the worst thing to mine but I'm thinking some of these others might be a bit friendlier to mine on someone elses hardware. Any suggestions please - I am all ears.

Need advice on potential partnership with a Coffee Truck startup

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 09:56 AM PDT

I have always wanted to be a entrepreneur and a business owner and I now have the opportunity to start up a coffee truck with a "partner". He has offered to pay for all of the start up cost and all I will be responsible for is the inventory and gas. My equity will be earned by running the operation and the terms of the deal are a 50/50 ownership in the company and a 50/50 split on net revenue. I will be responsible for all of the work and the partners 50% take will be used to pay off the truck. Once paid off I will have the option to buy him out for 10k.

I have never done a sweat equity partnership before and I have no idea if these terms are fair or not. I have several concerns mainly that my net profit portion will be very small until truck is paid off and that once it is I still have to pay my partner 10k to own the truck. I am really starting to think getting a small business loan would be a better deal, seeing as I won't have to make 50% net revenue payments on the loan.

So yeah any advice would be much appreciated. Should I run from this deal and just try to get a loan and start it myself.

    Copying the successful client

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:01 PM PDT

I see that in a lot of businesses entrepreneurs have clients who make a lot of money off mainly what the entrepreneur delivers to that client. This pushes many entrepreneurs to copy the client and do something similar. E.g. Construction companies become developers, farmers starting grocery businesses, trucking companies getting in trading, etc. Even the other way around, where you copy your supplier.

What client would you like to copy? Who made a similar move and failed/succeeded?

How do start ups decide what their product or service is?

How to get in touch with peofessional/luxury haircare brands? Is it possible to buy directly from them?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 01:41 PM PDT

Sorry if this is a super obvious and stupid question but Im just getting started.
I'm thinking about starting an e-commerce of luxury/professional hair productios targetting my small city. I want to resell brands like l'oreal professional, kerastase and redken.
    |There is a niche market for it in my city (I'm not in the US). Mostly people who are +40 and just starting to buy online but rather buy from people they know.
I'm new to this kind of business and I was wondering if it's hard to buy directly from these brands. I have absolutely no idea how to start doing it. How much would I have to buy? How constantly?

Closing a business. Is bankruptcy the only option?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 01:00 PM PDT

Closing a running business with ongoing projects and business obligations of different sorts. Switching to regular job will not cover the current business obligations, is bankruptcy the only way? Selling it is not an option.

Digital marketing for a fashion biz

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:56 PM PDT

I am running an ecom startup in the fashion sector (selling own brand goods). In the coming months I will be looking to hire a digital marketing specialist.

This hire will be make or break for the biz and I am looking for some help in understanding what I should be looking for to get this right.

During the pilot stage of this company I did google and facebook ads myself with good success and I understand the basics of SEO, but that's as far as my experience goes.

Can anyone who works in the field give me a little insight into how a digital marketing department works in a small company or where can I learn more? Adspend will be in the 10-20k a month range if that matters.

Brand is aspiring to be similar to something like https://www.allbirds.com/ Does anyone know how their marketing department would be set up?

    Thanks!

How I got that winning product and made sales from my e-com business.

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:47 PM PDT

    Hey everyone!

I run an e-commerce store/shopify store, started few months ago. I spent good money on FB ads and it brought traffic to my stores which was good. But unfortunately the traffic didn't make sales and when I was getting it advertised and all. I realized it must've been something with the store obviously. So I watched this video. https://youtu.be/4inBki-AXS0

It helped make my site better and now I got some sales. But a few weeks later the sales stopped coming in. I wondered why? Why was it not working like I optimized my website and even had a good conversion rate. That video helped me get the sales and make a profit.

Later though, I realized my website was well optimized. The website isn't the case. It's my product. My product wasn't a good niche to be in. It wasn't a long term product, and it wasn't something that would obviously bring me sales for a long time and it wasn't future proof. So I realized I needed to find a good niche. So I went on YT and I found a great video on how to make sure your niche is good and how to find a winning product and it worked!!! I found a great winning product and a niche. Made my store a one product page also. If you'd like the link to those YT videos here it is.

Well I decided I'm done and completely selling my business.

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:35 PM PDT

I'm tired of trying to rebuild t so this week I'm posting everything from the shop, the property and even he company vehicle I bought and selling it all. I decided that the money I generate isn't worth rebuilding. I'll spend j time better just concentrating on my portion of my wife's food truck.

Except for some gunsmithing , twice a year I'll set up a both at a venue to peddle some wares tat I find in the corners of the internet. Other than that I'm done. I have had no time to myself this summer and it's just getting old.

Time to move on to the next chapter.

Seek of the accounting part of the business

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:14 PM PDT

"Sick" - correction to the title. Small business, can not afford expensive accounting and bookkeeping services, but I am sick to my stomach dealing myself personally with accounting, regulations, taxes and mandatory paperwork and filings of what regularly required from a business. HOW DO YOU GUYS DO IT?? I often see a fresh entrepreneur post how he started and doing business, not a word about how he handles the required by law part of business with workers comp and multiple taxes. How is it usually done, so you only concentrate on business and not risking to be behind regulations required by law? .. as I mention before I understand a CPA handling w2s, local and fed taxes and required filings can be $500/ month, the business can not afford it yet.

How does a well off mid-20 year business owner meet friends / women without a “solid” workplace?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 11:44 AM PDT

Most people my age can relate to their peers, and many of them have a common-workplace to do so.

How does a successful mid-20 year old relate to other people with a wildly different career path that results in less commonalities?

    For 5-, 6-, 7-, & 8-figure online business owners

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 10:09 PM PDT

If you had to attribute ONE SKILL...

That's critical for scaling your online business to each revenue threshold… what would they be?

    1. From 5-figures to 6-figures…
    2. From 6-figures to 7-figures…
    3. From 7-figures to 8-figures…

    In the past seven years...

I've scaled three online businesses to 6-figures (two in ecom/current project with digital products) and one to 7-figures (ecom).

At this point in my journey, I know what I know, I know what I don't know, and I don't know what I don't know… and my ignorance invites every ounce of wisdom from your felt experiences.

Is offering a highly prestige service to Covid-stricken companies viable in the current economic situation?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 09:49 AM PDT

So, here's the gist of it. I'm thinking of starting a private event/contractual valet parking and temporary event parking hosting business.

Seems simple so far, but I'm worried about the current economic situation in the event/hospitality sector, and because of the fact that valet parking does NOT exist in my country here in Europe. It's only offered in 2 hotels, and valet parking is one of the most - in the eyes of an average business owner after a rough year - frivolous monthly expenses.

After completing my business plan, making a website etc. etc., I'm just in a bit of a rut, the potential market is extremely hard to define. I'm having a case of cold feet before taking the plunge.

How would you go about entering an untapped luxury market niche in the hospitality industry?
