I've been faking it for 10 years

    Posted: 06 Jul 2021 10:51 AM PDT

I don't know what the fuck I'm doing. I should be in data entry, but instead I've somehow managed to make it to the senior level. I don't know if I wasn't trained worth a shit or what, but I seriously don't know half of the things that I do each month. I essentially just replicate what I did last month. Most of the memes I see posted to this sub make no sense to me.

    Accounting and Motherhood (a rant)

    Posted: 06 Jul 2021 06:28 PM PDT

This is probably going to be less than popular here but whatever.

Working in the office as a mother is straight up bullshit.

I can understand if your job requires you to be physically present but, mine does not. I'm an accountant. I literally work at a desk all day.

It's a manufacturing job, sure, but I have yet to actually be on the shop floor it isn't necessary and the first defense against work place accidents and death is not having unnecessary people on the shop floor.

I'm tired of it being a problem for me to work from home. I have kids. Specifically I have an infant that has been sick for three fucking weeks.

I need to be home tomorrow, because even working from home, you can't take care of a sick infant and an older kid by yourself (my husband who also has a white collar job).

I don't need time off, I just need to be at home because the baby can't go to daycare and my husband sits in meetings all day.

He should have been staying home the past two fucking weeks but I'm supposed to be in the office. So I have been.

He has had this fucking cold for 3 weeks and now daycare says they think he has fucking thrush.

My nipples are on fire, but they're also chapped from him teething so like… shrug… assumed it was that.

    Any way.

I'm tired of feeling like I'm in trouble because I have to take care of my kids. It was the same way the last job I had in the office, and the one before that. I'm tired of knowing I'm seen as less dedicated or less productive when neither of those things are true.

And I have learned my lesson, in the end, if this is going to turn in to anything remotely disciplinary I'm going to find another job & quit… and it doesn't have to be in that order.

I'm just… annoyed… and I'm also annoyed at daycare because while I appreciate the solid of not making me come pick up my kid in the middle of the day you could at least call me and tell me about this so I could break it to my boss before I leave.

    End rant, I guess.

So much downtime at my industry job, constantly worried I'll be axed...

    Posted: 06 Jul 2021 05:24 PM PDT

Came from 4 years of public where any minute of downtime is fleeting, I now have an industry job where I have literal 3 hours of real work per day outside of my busy 3 days of the month where I work 6 hours per day (it's great, don't get me wrong). The company is doing really well, so I feel no real threat of layoffs, but I can't help the anxiety of anyone else thinking I'm a wasted hire. Doesn't help my case that I'm paid very very well for the actual work I do.

    Is it just me?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2021 07:19 PM PDT

Is it just me or does anyone else ABSOLUTELY DESPISE when they see who's postings that are completely low balled.. saw a posting for a CPA staff Accountant with 7 years min of experience for only a salary or 80k.. mind you the going salary for someone right out of college is about 60k in public in my area.. 7 years into the field should be 100k+ don't you think?

One of the partner at my firm thinks I am a good candidate for a newbie, but the truth is I am eating way too many hours.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2021 09:21 PM PDT

She is the one who has fired the most new employees, because they can't keep up. Her work is considered the gold standard at our small firm. I am learning alot from her. And she talks about giving me more of her files, since I can yield a good return for her. But the truth is, I am eating away hours. I come home and spend hour or two every day. Then on the weekend I spend 4-6 hours. all these hours are non-paid.

I know the reply to this is obvious. But Its not easy to quit. I am almost done my CPA and have almost no work experience (Need 30 months in Canada). So, it's been about 4 and half months and I have worked way too much for free. I think I am gonna suck it up for 30 months (26 more to go yay) and then quit.

    Thanks for listening.

If you have a manager that doesn’t stick up for you

    Posted: 06 Jul 2021 08:14 PM PDT

I just completely lost my respect for my manager. Someone sent rude emails to me, calling out mistakes and questioning me in such an unprofessional tone. My manager was involved in the process and knew what the misunderstanding was but didn't respond to that person or say ANYTHING to me after the fact. Felt like no one was defending me

CPA's Who Don't live in Nightmare COL States, How long did it take to hit six figures?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2021 03:35 PM PDT

Graduating with BS in Accounting soon at age 29. Just trying to decide if the time lost, money lost, and opportunities lost are worth it from here going forward for CPA.

I have one of the most marketable degrees as well as 4 years being a truck dispatcher and warehouse supervisor, so I am trying to decide if jumping into Supply Chain would be better since I think I can snag a 80k plus starting salary job somewhere in this field after graduation. Staff accountants are about 50-55, and it seems not many CPAs I have heard hit 100k or if they do, it can take up to 5-7 years.

Switching from audit staff to junior financial analyst?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2021 03:26 PM PDT

    Hey everyone,

I'm making 63k/yr in NYC at a midsize firm as a first year. I've been at my current firm for 9 months.

Currently, I am interviewing for an industry jr financial analyst position and I requested 67k

Has anyone made this switch so early? I'm not entirely sure accounting is for me and I wanted to try out finance to see if it's any better.

How are hours? What is the career progression? Is it going to look bad if I leave within 9 months of starting my public accounting job? Anything I should be on the lookout for? I'm too familiar with public accounting and that timeline and know nothing about a career in finance.

    Thanks

Just watched a lady chew out an accountant at our office. What’s the biggest client butt chewing you/someone else has received?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2021 08:18 AM PDT

I'm an intern at a really small accounting firm. I believe I read an article about the IRS having problems processing returns and that they were way behind schedule. This lady unfortunately filed for an extension around April, and our office still hasn't received her return. She said she's been in the office everyday for the past week literally just waiting for the mail man to drop it off. And she threw a fit in the middle of the lobby, and chewed out an accountant who didn't even file her taxes. He took her to the meeting room to calm her down and talk to her and I could hear the screaming from the meeting room (my office is probably one of the farthest from it). I'm still not super knowledgeable about taxes, but I believe she thinks she owes money, and her friends all received there's back. I actually feel super bad for the accountant, who is also a partner (and is probably one of the nicest you'll ever meet). The meeting is still going on and I believe they have someone from the IRS on the line. What was your biggest ass chewing received? Or one you have witnessed in the accounting workplace?
