I talked to my insurance broker and he went to bat for me. While the internal UHC formulary said it was not covered, the one they presented to the public did. Additionally, since I was under a small employer plan it was covered by the ACA which means that my doctor should've been allowed to appeal. After getting someone who understood that I was approved. I guess the lesson here is that the insurance company can and is wrong sometimes and that while they might keep telling you otherwise you got to be persistent.

Insurance had the wrong claim and was charging more.. possible refund?

    Posted: 19 Jun 2021 08:47 AM PDT

My GF (22) has full coverage insurance on her car (2012 Honda Accord) and she was involved in an accident (previous car). Police reports stated that she was not at fault for the accident. Insurance shot her payments way up and had the accident listed as her fault.

She has been making these high payments ($200+) for quite sometime now and only recently (today) found out that they had it listed as her fault. She is now battling with the insurance company to have the claim swapped to not being her fault. This seems like they were preying on her being young and not knowing anything different.

Is it possible to battle this (outside of court) to have them reimburse or pay forward her account for the over charges of them listing the accident as her fault?

Insurance company canceled my auto insurance because of false claims on my driving record

    Posted: 19 Jun 2021 08:35 AM PDT

Hey all, I just got a concerning letter from my auto insurance company explaining to me that my insurance will not be renewed for next year because of incidents on my driving record. They listed the incidents in this letter, and I was completely confused because I have never been pulled over let alone engaged in the violations they were claiming (e.g. following too closely, 31mph over in a 40, court rulings etc...).

On the letter they said the claims were reported by TransUnion, who after calling them had no idea what I was talking about as they told me they only handle credit reports.

I then bought my Motor Vehicle Record from my state DMV and its completely empty and clean. I am extremely confused, and would really appreciate advice on how to proceed.

    Deciding between insurance plans

    Posted: 19 Jun 2021 07:56 AM PDT

There are two insurance plans that are fully covered by my company. KP 70 Silver and KP 80 Gold. Is it better to go for the gold since I dont have to pay any of the premium for both?

    CHEAPEST Auto insurance???

    Posted: 19 Jun 2021 07:24 AM PDT

I am moving from NY to PA next week.

I will be on a very very tight budget for a while and it seems like progressive has the most reasonable monthly rate. I am leasing my car. Getting insurance first b4 registering and getting a new license.

Anyone have any advice on any auto insurance companies they like?

    Thanks Stephanie

Question for my fellow insurance producers - how do you deal with people like this? Am I the only one who gets these situations?

    Posted: 18 Jun 2021 01:13 PM PDT

My question is regarding clients who don't have all the info and expect you to pull it out of nowhere. I get contractors who need certificates of insurance but they don't know the info to put as a certificate holder, if they need to be listed as additional insured, or even where they need to send the certificates to. And inevitably they waited to the last second and now they want it done immediately. Sometimes I'm lucky if they can even give me the name and phone number for whoever is requesting the certificate. Another "repeat offender" seems to be boats as well. The customer will want to add a boat or start a boat policy but they do not have the make model engine info or horsepower of the boat yet they want a quote immediately. What made me ask is I had a lady who just started an auto policy with our agency and she wanted a boat quote so I asked for the info and she called back later and complained to my manager because she felt that no one has ever asked her those questions before.

Could someone be stealing my identity?

    Posted: 19 Jun 2021 12:37 AM PDT

I just got a new quote for insurance from GEICO, and it automatically found my car and asked if that's the car I wanted to insure, but it also listed a 2003 Buick Lesabre, which I have never owned or anything close to that.

Any idea if sometimes on the quote thing they just throw in a random car? Or should I be doing a little more digging now and make sure that someone's not using my info to insure a car for some reason? I don't think I see anything weird on my credit report.

Is $40/day still enough coverage for replacement rental on auto policy?

    Posted: 18 Jun 2021 11:23 PM PDT

I did a quick search and didn't see it addressed. Apology if it's had already been asked recently.

    https://jalopnik.com/used-car-prices-and-rental-car-rates-continue-to-rise-t-1847081484

My car was in the shop a few weeks ago. I got the "platinum" extended warranty (2014 Volt, not exactly something I could wrench on myself, especially the electronics) which covered rental car.....at $35/day. Checked the local Enterprise rates, about $80/day for a local rental. I borrowed my dad's old truck.

Reading that got me thinking about my own coverage, which is currently $40/day and $1200 max. I can increase it to $100/day and $3000 max for $30 for the next 7 month of my current policy year. Given the used car prices and rental rate had gone up significantly, would it be wise to do so? I understand that auto insurance companies have bulk deal/rate with the rental companies, so I wonder if they are being impacted to the same extend as retail customers?

Also on similar vein, with the high valuation on used cars right now, are we seeing a change in fix-it-up vs totalling-it decisions?

I am in California, if that matters.

Does anyone else have trouble getting and staying logged in to the app? I have to create a new password almost every single time I try to use the app on my phone. I write it down and the app won't accept it next session. The browser version will. Very frustrating

Stolen motorbike, pay off the lien in full or keep making monthly payments until the check arrives? It's been 2 months now

    Posted: 18 Jun 2021 04:35 PM PDT

    Los angeles California (K-Town)

Had my motorbike stolen on April 20th in my own neighborhood. For those who are in the LA area. Koreatown Is almost only street parking only. So as usual i park it on the street parking. Lock it, chain etc.

Wake up at 6am and I notice that it was stolen!

Called my insurance right then and there and they have it noted and told me to get a report asap so they can go ahead and continue. Lien holder was notified as well (synchrony bank)

Called LAPD so many times. No response until 3 days later (desk officer) takes a report. Sent it to Geico. Theft claim rep then interviews me [1st interview] after report was given.

SIU gets involved and interviews [2nd interview] me for over an hour . I hear nothing back for 2-3 weeks. Get another call from SIU because of "discrepancies" and to further question if I really never posted my bike for sale

[3rd interview] She then asks if I knew a certain individual, I asked her why and doesn't respond. I end up sending my work info, bank statements (3months) call logs, bus route I take to go to work and back, my branch info (guard for the bank), who lives with me.

I then get a call last Friday from the theft dpt employee (1st interview) saying that he is in talks with management about just sending out the payout since it's been a long time and he thanks me for my patience.

Then afterwards then says also an individual now has possession of my bike with the release of liability and was sold for 850 (bikes worth used 4-6grand) (7 new).

Then proceed to call the DMV investigations unit and tell them about that and the DMV employee says "yeah I see a release of liability under ****** in this area, but you are fully covered since you did what you had to do."

So far nothing at all. Have been making payments to the lien (twice a month) and insurance (once a month)

Is it normal for them to take this long? Would it be better off to payout the entire lien in one go and get another bike and insure it with them? Would that jeopardize my claim?

Again I do apologize for this rant, and how awful this is written (on mobile)

    Parking Lot Accident

    Posted: 18 Jun 2021 07:50 PM PDT

After investigation by both insurance companies, my insurance found me not at fault, their insurance company found me at fault and is now requesting a payment of $2250.00 for the other person's car repair, and are threatening referral to collections or attorney resulting in cancellation of driver's license, garnishment of wages etc. What steps should I take? I was going to call their insurance tomorrow and dispute. would my insurance do anything at this point considering they found me not at fault?

When I walked up to my car her passenger side was against my driver side. A person came up to me and said they just left a note, they took a picture which clearly showed her front wheels turned into my car, although they didn't actually witness it happen. Their insurance said I was over the line, but the pictures clearly show we both had our tires touching the yellow line, but as I said her wheel turning in the direction of my car.

If I end up having to pay this, there goes half of my savings. Sadly, I would almost rather just pay it and not go through the hassle of fighting it in court. I think in a few months I'm going to move far away from the city and just ride my bike everywhere, lose the stress.

UPDATE: My insurance is taking care of it, that's a relief. They're getting Flo and Jamie to handle it for me :p

Water damage claim: Unsure of impending denial

    Posted: 18 Jun 2021 06:30 PM PDT

Hi everyone! I'm in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

I'm hoping you can impart your expertise on me and help me soothe my nerves a bit. Recently while I was running the shower in the guest bathroom of my home we noticed water seeping through the closet of the bedroom that backs up against the shower wall. We turned the shower off immediately, dried the areas, removed all of our property, and the next morning called our homeowners insurance (Farmers) and filed a claim. We discovered the leak at about 3 a.m.

We had a mitigation company out here for the past three days with dehumidifiers and fans. On the last day of their mitigation, they discovered an additional leak on the water shutoff valve beneath/behind the bathroom vanity because it was the only space that wasn't responding to the dehumidifier. They had to tear out the wall and the vanity and discovered mold with roots.

These issues were completely new to me, you couldn't see any damage on the wall above the valve or the front of the vanity which was visible. The mitigation guy says that it seems it was a slow leak that got progressively worse all of a sudden. We have a plumber coming in the next few days to identify the true issues. However, their saying "slow leak" sent me into an anxious state. I know that many homeowner's policies exclude damage from a slow leak.

Has anyone ever experienced a loss like this, and can you share your experiences and knowledge with me? I'm nervous that my claim will be denied. I know that this damage is "sudden and unexpected" to me, but the adjuster may not see it that way. He isn't available to come out until late next week so I have too much time to dwell on the cost!

Dental Procedures listed on Schedule of Benefits Are Incorrect - Denied Preauthorization

    Posted: 18 Jun 2021 06:07 PM PDT

I visited the dentist and was informed I would need some fillings. Logging into the dental insurance (United Concordia DHMO) website and downloading my Certificate of Coverage + Schedule of Benefits documents, these filling procedure codes are clearly listed as covered.

When my dentist submitted the reauthorization form, these procedures were denied. I called the insurance company to figure out why, and they told me that the document I downloaded had mistakes on it and that this procedure was not covered. They went on to say that this phone call serves as them alerting to me of this discrepancy, and 1) I would not be able to have these services covered, and 2) I would not be able to appeal this decision since they informed me before I got the procedure, and 3) they would update the document.

Does anyone have any advice? I feel really misled and frustrated. Thank you.

Parking lot incident: my auto insurance found me 0% at fault, other driver's insurance only accepting 50% liability

    Posted: 18 Jun 2021 04:25 PM PDT

I was already backing out of a parking spot when another driver started to back out of her spot and then she proceeded to hit my bumper. I have dashcam footage that shows this.

My car insurance (State Farm) is claiming I am 0% at fault, however the insurance of the driver (AAA) that hit me is claiming it to be a 50%/50% liability. The other insurance, AAA, claims both cars are backing out at the same time, so liability should be split. I have dashcam footage to prove that I am obviously out at the parking spot when she hit me, and that I even braked when the other driver continued moving.

What should I do? I obviously don't agree with other driver's insurance's decision. My insurance says they have done all they can do, they can't "force" AAA to change their decision. They recommend I speak with the other drivers' insurance and their supervisor to review the footage again to see if they can contest their decision.

Can anyone share some insight if this has happened to you or suggestions on next steps? This is my first car accident and I am just not sure what to do.

Edit to add: I have liability coverage only.

    Windshield got worse

    Posted: 18 Jun 2021 04:10 PM PDT

I live in Florida and had an accident a month ago which resulted in a small crack to the windshield. I filed a claim for the accident but at the time I didn't have comprehensive insurance. I just added the comprehensive coverage today and when driving too work the crack got 10x worse due to a pothole. Is this eligible to be fixed? I live in Florida and on the same day I added the comprehensive coverage I had made a claim before adding about the windshield and found out I needed comprehensive for it to be covered. My question is is making a claim the same day as adding comprehensive ok?

Recently contacted by an Attorney's Office in reference to a recent collision where I was at fault.

    Posted: 18 Jun 2021 03:33 PM PDT

Hi there and allow me to provide background details.

A few months ago, I was in a devastating car accident. The collision resulted in me nearly dying, losing my car, and financial incapacitation. I imagine the effects were felt similarly for the person who collided with me.

At the time of the collision, neither of us had any insurance. I was found at fault by the police officer on-scene. I was not given a ticket and I was given permission to leave by the same officer.

I am now being contacted on behalf of the Attorney Office's client, the other party which was involved in the accident.

I'm curious what I should be worried about or what I should be focusing on in terms of a defense, etc.

edit: Bot told me to tell you all where I reside. That would be in United States, Texas.
