    Should Claim Insurance? Insurance

    Should Claim Insurance? Insurance

    Should Claim Insurance?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 03:45 AM PDT

Hi, I don't own any car and don't know a lot. I am asking this question for a friend who has immigrated in US like me a year ago and have language difficulty. Two days ago, He got into a accident. From his description, I am sure that it is his fault as he was trying to change the lane in highway and got hit by a f150 from the back. Now, they didn't stop and continue to drive. Police stopped them both as they get informed from a video footage. Turns out that, there is a wreck in his accord car but the f150 is not affected at all. As it was his first time accident, he completely forget to ask for the others driver information. The police gave no ticket to none of them. He got a report number.

He went to a repair shop and the damage can be fixed for 1500. I read his insurance policy. He can get 1000 if claim the insurance after 500 deductible. Now, what I heard is the insurance can go up 40-50% after first claim. What should he do? Though he said the f150 is not affected, what if the guy claim insurance. Can he claim insurance (in case) after the guy in f150 claim ?

    Edit: State: NJ

    Fighting insurance

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 04:27 PM PDT

A high schooler ran a red light and hit my car resulting in a total loss of my vehicle. His insurance company states they accept 80% liability and the other 20% is my fault. Ive expressed my disagreement several times via phone and in writing and they wont budge. What are my options?

i do not have full coverage so my insurance company is useless.

    Edit: accident happened in colorado

    Trying to understand Co-Pay

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 03:36 AM PDT

I recently joined a company, and they provide health insurance through Onsurity (ICICI), and I am in confusion in understanding the co-pays. If the wording is "20%; After deductible" does that mean I pay 20% or ICICI covers 20%, and I pay 80%?

It kind of looks obvious, but above the annual checkup which will be free says "100%; Deductible waived" ... which seems to imply they are paying 100%.

    Thanks!

Someone hit my car and left a note with his phone number. Now he stopped responding.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 07:23 AM PDT

I came home from a trip to find a dent in my parked car and a note with his number. I called and we talked that day- him saying he wanted to pay out of pocket so his insurance wouldn't go up. I got several quotes, lowest being $1,500 for a new door, and after I let him know he stopped responding. He didn't give me any of his insurance information. Of course my collision deductible is 1,500 (big regret) and don't want my premium to go up being of this. Any advice?

VSP summary differs from optometrist bill

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 10:23 PM PDT

I was under the impression that I would only owe a $10 copay, however, I received a bill for $81.26. Not exactly life altering, but I'm annoyed since the doctor said I have really good coverage, and I only got all the extras because he said insurance would pay for it.

I also noted that the VSP summary states they paid for $215.50, while the bill says $157.50.

Is this standard procedure to pay for what VSP doesn't, or am I reading too much into this?

Vastly different claims from other involved party. Should I be at all concerned?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 10:02 PM PDT

SLC, UT I was hit by a drunk/high driver a few weeks ago. They were arrested on sight and taken away. Their insurance company was listed on the police report but no policy number. I went to the police department later and got an updated police report showing their DUI charges and traffic violation but still no added policy number. I decided to call my insurance and started a claim but they never called me for a statement. Neither did the other insurance. Today I called the other parties insurance company to attempt to get a rental from them, as I am still without a vehicle or payout but I don't have rental on my policy. While talking to the agent he mentioned how he was told I was at fault but would like a statement from me. I gave him my statement and also provided the police and witness report as he was unaware that there was an arrest or any DUI's. It also seems he was told a totally different story and even different location. After looking over the report he was happy to provide a rental. I would think I would be in the clear having provided those documents. But the other party seems determined to push a different narrative despite no evidence I've seen. Should I be worried that there will be pushback overall? Or do the police reports carry enough weight to clear me? Wouldn't this be considered insurance fraud on their end? Lastly, do the insurance companies not typically follow up with the involved police? I'm just surprised I'm the first to inform them of the DUI's a few weeks after the incident.

Adding boyfriend who doesn't live with me to my car insurance?

My bf has his own car and we don't live together. However, he does drive my car fairly often. He had an excellent driving record, but his FICO score is kinda low. Will this raise my premium? We're both in our 30s.

What's the point of health insurance if the deductible is higher than my medical bills will be?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 12:09 AM PDT

Maybe I'm misunderstanding how it all works.

But I've been looking to find insurances, but everything is either very high premium with lower deductible, or Very high deductible with lower premium.

In both cases I'd be paying more to an insurance company than I would if I were to just pay my medical bills outright. I don't want to get insurance if all I'm doing is paying them for nothing.

Am I missing something or would I actually be better off just paying outright for doctors visits?

Before I Speak To My Insurance

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 11:49 PM PDT

Long story short, I purchased a new Harley back in April ( currently June ), and have rode it some since then. Between balancing school, family life, finances , and work, I've gotten completely distracted and haven't insured it yet. Things in my personal life are finally coming together and I want to insure the bike. My question is, will insurance penalize me for putting some miles on it before getting it insured? And will I face any extra fees for not being covered from the time of purchase until now?

Also! when I do contact them, should I mention the true mileage on the odometer reading or a low mileage like I haven't ridden it much? Appreciate the help in advance!

    - probably some useful info:

    - got it off the lot at 9mi, currently at 703mi ( was doing a lot of practice riding between the 2 months )

    - I live in Northern California

No damage car accident, other person said they're okay. What do I do

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 05:20 PM PDT

So I was grabbing lunch and on my way back I was trying to go back onto a busy street. Realized it was gonna take too long so I backed up, the car behind me was a little too close and i bumped into them, no damage to the cars, just their license plate frame was a little bent. They asked if I was okay, I said yes I asked if they were okay and they said yes and we both went on our way, what should I do? Should I report it to my insurance even though we both said it's fine? I completely forgot until after they drove away to grab their plate#. I've never been in an accident before so I'm still a bit shook up and scared (California,US)

HMO vs PPO. Which one is the best for me?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 11:11 PM PDT

Hey all, this is my first time posting in this sub so I hope you all can help me out.

Recently, I just got a job at a company in California that offers me three health care packages to choose from (all of which are paid for fully by them, so cost is not a factor for me). As someone who is not very familiar with insurance jargon, these words give me a headache. Anyhow a little bit about myself, I am a physically healthy guy in my early 20's that do not go to the doctor that often (possibly once or twice a year). However, because of the healthcare package that is now offered at no cost now, I want to be able to see a therapist (for anxiety and mental health), as well as going to a specialist to get my ADHD checkout/diagnosed. I live in Los Angeles if that matters.

So here are the three choices that are offered:

    Kaiser Permanente HMO:

    • Deductible: None
    • Out-of-pocket: $3,000
    • Primary Care Physician/Specialist: $20 PCP/ $20 SP
    • Lab and X-Ray: $10/visit
    • Prescription Drugs (tier 1/2/3): $25/$35/NA

    Anthem Premier HMO:

    • Deductible: None
    • Out-of-pocket: $1,500
    • Primary Care Physician/Specialist: $10 PCP / $10 SP
    • Lab and X-Ray: No Charge
    • Prescription Drugs (tier 1/2/3): $10 / $25 / $40

Anthem Blue Cross Premier PPO (In-Network/Out-of-Network)

    • Deductible: $250
    • Out-of-pocket: $2,500 / $6,500
    • Primary Care Physician/Specialist: $10 copay/visit (ded waived) / 30% after deductible
    • Lab and X-Ray: 10% after deductible
    • Prescription Drugs (tier 1/2/3): $10 / $25 / $40

    Thank you in advance :)

Is this a condo association claim, or a homeowners claim?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 07:00 PM PDT

Hi all, a little back story. I owned a condo unit in ND up until a few weeks ago and I had zero claims on it. Unbeknownst to me water had been getting into the wall/floor from, what seems like, the outside for an unknown period of time. That makes sense since there isn't a pipe near the damage from what I can tell. The person who bought the unit only noticed the damage after they moved in, and there was no mention of it on any closing documents. From what little info I have gotten from my realtor the company who looked at it believes the issue stems from poor irrigation on the outside of the unit near the exterior wall.

My question is this. How much liability does the condo association insurance have in this situation? Since the damage came from a common area would they cover something like this? I no longer have insurance on the property anymore, but would it be prudent to talk to my insurance about this or should I just let the new home owner and the condo associations insurance hash it out?

Help with Medical Insurance in California

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 10:36 PM PDT

I originally posted in the /r/California subreddit but my post got taken down by a bot since it detected it as a Covid thread? I figured I might as well post here for help as well.

Background: (Skip, if you just want to get straight to my questions)

Hello there, today I've decided to help one of my relatives with getting health insurance asap. I unfortunately have little to no knowledge on the subject. I still decided to help him because one, he has no other friends or relatives to help him and two, he isn't tech savvy nor is his English the best.

Now, this relative was able to make an application prior and qualified for Covered California. He was able to receive 250$ (not an exact number, around there) of credit towards any of his medical plans.

Seeing that he needed medical insurance asap (He needs surgery for his toe as it is infected and his teeth are in such horrible shape, it's pretty undeniable he'll need to see dentist asap as well) and seeing that I needed to enroll him in a plan before the month ended so he'd be covered by July 1st, I enrolled him in a Molina Healthcare Gold 80 HMO plan, mainly because of the 0$ deductible. I haven't decided on a dental plan yet because I feel they may not cover enough fees and which is why I decided to ask for help.

    Questions:

Covered California vs Medi-Cal, which would be better for a low-income individual?

This relative has been unemployed for 5 months, I'm not sure how he did not qualify for Medi-Cal, considering his annual income should be pretty damn low. My main priority is to get his major dental issues fixed for the lowest price possible. With the current dental plans offered under Covered California, I don't see the prices being feasible for him.

For someone who needs insurance asap, should I just stick with what's been offered to him by Covered California? Or should I try and help him with making another application?

I'm considering creating a new application (I'm not sure about this being possible) or somehow letting know of Covered California of his income since unless I'm wrong, the fact he's been unemployed for 5 months/ a low annual income should qualify him for Medi-Cal...? I feel that he made errors while he applied with regards to his income. He told me that he put the income of his last job on the application. He doesn't remember if he put that he was unemployed. Perhaps Covered California thinks he has an income higher than he actually does?

Are 0 Deductible Plans better for low-income individuals?

These are my main questions...I'm also planning on also contacting support on Covered California tomorrow . Thanks for any help!

    Florida condo collapse.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 08:06 AM PDT

Just curious what people in the insurance industry take regarding the Florida condo collapse. I would doubt that the condo association would have enough coverage to handle the horrible claims that will come out of this incident. I am not sure what would be insurable if it was deemed negligence by the condo association.

I would assume there would be no errors or omissions coverage for any of the original developers/contractors/trades since this building has been standing for over 40 years.

Would the engineer who wrote the 2018 report have liability? I doubt it since he covered himself in his report and it was up to the condo association to fall through on seeing that the work was completed in a timely manner.

Just curious what recourse owners might have in the units that still survived the collapse. Also the odors of the units in the sister building.

Rear end collision. He and his insurance admitted fault but can only cover half the body shop quote

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 09:15 AM PDT

Accident in WA. They can only do 5k because thats whats in his policy but the repair quote is 9k.

My insurance policy doesn't have any collision/underinsured coverage so I have no hope to get help from them. Whats the best way ahead in these scenarios ?

One notable caveat btw is that his policy was registered in a different state where the min reqd is 5k. And WA min is 10k.

    California Independent Adjuster Requirement question

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:57 PM PDT

Hi, I live in California, and am doing research on the Independent Adjuster approach to entering the field. I looked at the California requirements on line, and it requires " two years certified experience in insurance adjusting field." How does one gain that experience if one isn't licensed? Sounds like a catch-22, or am I missing something?

Hit and Run - Insurance says I’m at fault?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 03:03 PM PDT

I have some questions: I was rear ended when making a left turn by a vehicle going straight, the vehicle was visibly speeding (but it was not recorded/documented officially). Vehicle did not stop at all after the accident. There was no license plate, no vehicle color as it was 12am at night with limited light.

Location of accident is in michigan, but my policy is based in Ohio.

We called the police. Police ensured us we are not at fault for hit and run accidents, so we filed a claim with our insurance under our collision coverage. Long story short, claim was processed and vehicle fixed.

Fast forward 6 month from then, our policy is going to renew. And our rate is 2x the amount, because apparently the adjuster deemed that I am at fault, due to not yielding. The vehicle hit me in the back, I was already on the road. I am going to call the police department again to try to dig up information. The dash cam footage is no longer available as I thought this was all over when the police said we are not at fault.

How do insurance deal with hit and run accidents? What can I do at this point?

    RightTrack Feels Unfair Without Context

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:38 PM PDT

I recently started an auto-insurance policy with Liberty Mutual, as USAA referred them to me. They enrolled me in RightTrack, and I figured it was worth the shot as I'd like to think of myself as a safe enough driver.

However, my daily commute is 35 miles along a rough Michigan "highway" with speed limits between 35-70mph with abundant stop lights littered throughout. The lights aren't at all timed correctly, such that going the speed limit reduces the number of stops. And in addition to that, the yellow light cycles are rather short. As such, it's common that during my commutes, there's at least three or four times per day where I have a decision to make: punch it and try to get through the yellow, or slam on the brakes as not to risk running the red. I generally opt for the latter, as my car isn't exactly peppy.

But regardless of which route I take, RightTrack crucifies me for it--oftentimes more than once per stop. In my head, I'm doing the "safe" thing by not running three or four yellow/red lights per day, and in theory, these programs should reward "safe" driving. It lacks the contextual awareness to understand the circumstances, so it seems as though I don't have much of a choice but to just eat the penalties.

Am I being unreasonable here? I do realize that when human safety is considered, some petty discount is beyond meaningless. Is there anything I can do here?

    Thanks!
