New Employer Requiring Use Of Personal Vehicle to Transport Clients. Am I screwed if there's an accident?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 09:06 PM PDT

I just started a new job (Missouri) as a direct support professional for a company that serves clients with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

We are required by the company to use our own personal vehicles to transport individuals we support to things such as appointments, jobs, haircuts, grocery shopping, etc.

I haven't yet transported anybody in my vehicle yet, but another new employee in training asked "If we're transporting individuals for work, wouldn't our auto insurance not cover that?" The trainer responded with an evasive "You'd have to check your insurance" Wheels started turning in my head and I got worried.

Say I get in an accident while transporting individuals for work and am found to not be at fault. Under typical auto insurance, would I be screwed due to insurance denying a claim because it doesn't fall under their policy?

My Pharmacy Insurance has a mandated specialty pharmacy that doesn't carry the medicine I need. They won't allow another pharmacy to fill it. Is this legal?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 01:42 PM PDT

the medication is Spravato and its an antidepressant that saved my life and frankly I will likely die without it. I have a prior authorization and everything but they are making me use a specialty pharmacy that doesn't dispense this medication because they aren't licensed to do so. What can I do?

[Crossposted] My friend recently found out her insurance is insisting they have no responsibility to cover her due to an unexpected pregnancy

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 01:16 AM PDT

Friend found out she was pregnant the day after she enrolled in health insurance and now they're saying they don't have to cover her.

    Location: WI, USA

My friend found out today that her insurance is insisting it has no responsibility to cover her due to an unexpected pregnancy.

Some background: my friend has Endometriosis and has for several years. Not only does this make it very difficult for her to get pregnant, she also gets very irregular periods, which means possible pregnancies can take longer to detect than for the average woman.

About two years ago, my friend signed up for some health insurance. One of the enrollment questions asked if she was currently pregnant. She said no, as she had no reason to believe she was. Everything was normal, no symptoms out of the ordinary. No recent positive/questionable at home pregnancy tests.

The next day, she had a scheduled doctors appointment. Whatever she was having done, they suggested a pregnancy test, even though she assumed she wasn't pregnant, just to be safe. Well, turns out she was pregnant! Surprising, but happy news considering all the fertility issues she has. She left the doctor's office assuming everything would be handled like every other doctor's visit. They forward all the visit info to the insurance and then you hear back about your bill later. And that seemed to be the case. Nothing out of the ordinary happened.

Well, a short while later, my friend broke her hand and needed surgery. For the last two years, her insurance has neglected to pay anything towards the surgery's bill, insisting they didn't have doctor's notes from all of her appointments from around that time. For the past two years, my friend would make a monthly call to the insurance just to see if anything has changed. No change. No additional information. Still waiting on all the right info from the hospital... Two years on.

Last week she received a check for $1000 in the mail from her insurance. No letter was included, so she had no idea why she got this check from them. Come to find out, they were refunding several monthly payments, insisting they didn't have any responsibility to cover her because "she lied about not being pregnant when she signed up." They insist she should have notified them immediately of the pregnancy, even though she logically assumed they'd find out through her doctor when the hospital forwarded the visit information to the insurance. You know, like every other doctor/insurance communication happens. She didn't find out through an at home pregnancy test. She found out through the doctor, so she assumed the insurance would find out through the doctor as well.

So not only did the insurance company keep this information from her through 2 years of monthly phone calls, but now her $80k surgical bill has been sent to collections. All because the insurance assumes she lied about not being pregnant when she enrolled.

Does anyone have any advice on how to successfully appeal this absurd decision and make sure the insurance pays their portion?

FU LIBERTY MUTUAL! HELP!! WHAT DO I DO?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 03:03 AM PDT

I got into a pretty good accident on January 24th 2021. The other driver flipped a U turn on the other side of the median and I didn't see him. We were both cited, me for not yelding to oncoming traffic an him for doing an illegal U turn and driving on a suspended license. After the accident I looked at my ticket and the vehicle he was driving wasn't his, he had bought it and never transferred the title over to his name. My car was towed to an impound lot for a few days. I got a call one morning from a liberty mutual insurance Adjuster telling me the vehicle had to be moved that day. They recommended a shop and I wasn't really in a position to be picky being a college student 9 hours away from home. My car is fairly new and I had just hit 23,000 miles in the vehicle. In perfect condition "which it was" I could sell it for about $24,000-$28,000. The shop quoted me $8,000 to repair the vehicle and that didn't seem bad. When my car was moved over to the body shop they never had me sign anything for them to begin work on the vehicle. I got the car back 3 and a half months later with a bill of about $16,000 in repairs. There was a lot that was still wrong with the vehicle. I returned the vehicle back to the body shop with a list of things wrong with the car. They still haven't had me sign a thing at this point. The body shop chose a few things on the list mostly mechanical and fixed them but a lot was left. About 2 weeks after I had received the vehicle back I noticed more wrong with the car like my front bumper falling off and the car heavily pulling to the left. I contacted my insurance agent and told him my complaints for him to pass along up the chain of command. I was supposed to meet my parents halfway from home to see them anyways so took the car and sent it home with them. This is after the local body shop told me that they were no longer interested in helping me. My parents had a liberty mutual adjuster come out and take a look at the vehicle. He requested that it be taken to a new shop that was local to them. Liberty mutual told me they wouldn't pay for it to go to a local shop my parents have been using for years because it has to be warranted so they could go against the shop that fixed it in the first place. About two weeks later the shop was sent to Honda for a post collision inspection, it failed every category that was tested. Then it was taken to the new body shop where they began work immediately. Monday I got a call from the body shop telling me that they had replaced almost all my suspension components and my car needed some very extensive repairs coming up. The body shop that previously fixed my vehicle had yanked on my car in lots of ways and it bent my frame and broke my engine cradle and multiple suspension and cosmetic components. They can rebend my frame and insurance has already approved a new engine cradle. I was told my repairs are currently $8,800 without the new developments. I requested them to stop work on the vehicle for the time being while I figure out what to do with the car. WHAT DO I DO? I don't want to accept the repaired vehicle due to safety concerns and unable ness to sell the car due to significants of accident. I have a loan on the vehicle which I purchased GAP insurance with. As of currently the repairs cost more than I owe. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful!!! The accident happened in Utah but my policy is based in Idaho.

$4,175 Surprise Ambulance Bill for My Baby

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 03:24 PM PDT

My 2 month old son ended up with bowel obstruction due to a hernia which led to surgery. We immediately brought him to our local ER in Northwest Indiana when he began to show signs of illness, and there they found that the issue was bowel obstruction and informed us that he would need to be transferred to Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago, which is exactly 19 miles away from the ER we were at. The ambulance company (which does not have a contract with our insurance company and was therefore considered out-of-network) billed our insurance for $7,075 but my insurance stated they enhanced the claim to in-network, and were therefore able to cover $2,900 of the bill. The ambulance company is stating that we are responsible for covering the balance of the bill, which is $4,175.

A quick back story: my son was born premature at 30 weeks and 3 days and spent 40 days in the NICU. He was born in December and was discharged in January so we had to pay the $3,800 insurance deductible for him twice. We also had to pay the deductible for me for the birth which was another $3,800. So we're already paying $11,400 in medical bills and simply cannot afford another $4,175. From what I've read, there is no legal protection against surprise billing in Indiana for ground ambulance services. We are in the process of appealing this with our insurance in hopes they will cover the remainder of the bill, but if that falls through I'd like to be prepared for alternative measures we can take. Has anyone experienced anything similar or have any suggestions as to what some other options may be?

Thank you in advance for any help

Colonoscopy ordered by doctor not covered by insurance until I meet deductible, is this normal?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 02:13 AM PDT

I recently went to my primary care doctor for a check-up and was referred to a GI specialist for hemorrhoid treatment. He confirmed I had a hemorrhoid, prescribed medication, but suggested a colonoscopy since the issue was ongoing and he thought we should double check there isn't anything else going on.

My insurance policy would not cover the procedure until I meet my $2500 deductible, at which point anything after would be covered at 90%. Is this normal, especially since it's being ordered by the doctor? Or could I make a case to the insurance company that this needs to be covered?

To clarify, I am 30, in New York, with no known family history of colon cancer.

    Thank you.

Is it possible to insure a car I don’t own?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 08:08 PM PDT

I have my own insurance policy for my own car and don't live with my parents any more.

However, my mom is getting rid of her car soon and I would like to take it off her hands. I don't want to transfer the title though because the car has a lifetime powertrain warranty that is only valid for the original owner, which would be my mom.

Would it be possible for me to drive and insure the car under my own policy without transferring the title to my name? The car is fully paid off if that matters.

Can I cash an insurance check after I sold the car?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 07:04 PM PDT

So I got into a minor accident with no injuries. Decided that it was time to try to sell my car. But I still did the proper thing and file an insurance claim. It closed out, but I had sold my car the next day. Only just today I got the insurance claim check. Can I cash it? Should I inform the insurance company? Btw I did own the vehicle outright and all loans were paid off so i had the title in my own name and not the lien holders.

Found at fault for not fault accident (pictures)

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 05:47 PM PDT

I was found at fault for an accident I believe was not my fault. I was going straight when a car came in front of me out of no where, I braked but it was too late.

White car is claiming she was in front of me the whole time but if that would have been the case I would have rear ended her and I would have seen her!

I think she either thought the street was wide enough and tried to pass me or tried to cut me off but she was 100% not infront of me.

My insurance has found me at fault, do you believe this to be the case? What can I do to fight this? photos

Need car insurance but I’m in a tricky situation. Any help is much appreciated!

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 11:28 PM PDT

I got in an accident last year where my car was totaled and i was 51% responsible for it but I was never given a ticket or anything in the mail about my accident. I was also a permit driver, driving alone and on my parents car insurance (i was 21) so I'm not sure if it's on my record or not. It's now almost a year later and I'm trying to get insurance for my new car but every site asks if I've been in an accident and I don't know wether I should say yes or if I should try to say no since I'm not sure wether it's on my record or not. Sorry this is super confusing.

Adding a Car and having my son drive it

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 11:03 PM PDT

I am adding a Mazda Cx-5 car to my car insurance, and I want to insure my 21 yr old son to drive it. He would only be driving it occasionally when he is in town. How should I approach this? I have heard that having him as a secondary driver would be best and there is also a good student discount. The insurer is Geico if that matters and I am in Brooklyn,NY

    Rear-ended in no-fault state

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 06:24 PM PDT

(Massachusetts) Someone rear ended my partner and caused (what appears to be) minor damage to the rear bumper. They traded phone numbers and took photos, but they didn't get a police report at the scene. Our car is older, so we don't have collision coverage. Does no-fault mean we can't claim against their insurance and our own insurance won't do anything for us since we have no collision coverage? What's the right process to follow here? I'd rather not notify our insurance company if they're going to say we don't have coverage and it'll increase our rates.

Insurance company refuses to pay for rain damage

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 02:25 PM PDT

Soo I had one car get totalled, insurance company procrastinated soo long I just got a new car.

I go to my house after I left the dealership to get some paperwork I needed for work out of my car (technically not allowed at my own house because a crazy chick took my last car, totaled it then when I told her to leave she called the cops lied said she was currently living there and I beat her).

Cops pulled up, had my new car towed while the top was still down and took me into custody. They left the top down and didn't even bother to cover it and the car got rained in for multiple days. Nothing works, finally was able to get an adjuster to look at it and get it in to the dealership to further check everything. They said the damage was too extensive and it would probably never be right soo they totalled it out.

Problem is Allstate refused to pay stating the damages were caused by user negligence or something. And the tow company and city both state they were under no obligation to raise the top for a criminal. Is the insurance company allowed to deny payment of this? What course of action should I take? I had full coverage, with uninsured motorist coverage and everything else.

    This is in Texas btw

    RV Park General Liability Insurance

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 09:27 PM PDT

Long story short, my park had 3 fraudulent claims and two are still open since I am not liable for the cases. My insurance told me about non renewal due to 1 case per year on the park. We never had claim in 10 years, I contacted my local insurance agent and they are reaching out everywhere to find me a general liability of 1MM dollar policy. I have loan on the property and need yo make decisions if I can't find the general liability insurance. Does anyone have experience in situation like this? One local insurance lady told me that $250K deductible, they can give me general liability, that's ridiculous. Please any suggestions can help, any links or good way to run RV park.

My question is, will I be covered by insurance if I ride it even though I am not under the insurance. Me and my dad live in different addresses. I heard that it is fine for me to ride the bike but I just wanted to be sure that the me and bike will be covered just in case anything happens. I live in Ontario Canada if that makes a difference.

    How is this possible anymore?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 08:43 PM PDT

I'm 18. Parents kicked me out a few years ago. I live with my girlfriend, at her grandparents place. She's pregnant and our son will be here in 6 weeks or less. I have to pay $400 a month in rent. $100 a month for my phone and hers. Miscellaneous expenses. I've been saving for like 2 years to get my first car. I only have $2100. I'm smart financially, but don't make a lot, there's only so much I can save. I make about $900 a month. When I finally do get my car, how and where am i supposed to get insurance? When my girlfriend (Also 18 and a clean driving record) got her car, a 20 year old pontiac, she tried to get it in her name, they said they were going to charge her $360 a month. For liability only. Luckily, she was able to get it under her dads name, but I have no such luck. My parents and I don't talk. Even if we did they wouldn't do that for me. So what the hell am i supposed to do? I'll get charged even more for being a guy. I can't afford that. Between insurance and putting gas in, unexpected mechanical issues, phone bills, rent, etc, i'll literally be dead broke. I have to support myself, girlfriend and son. I don't know what to do. I can't go broke just on my car so i can get back and forth to work. I have a son to feed and clothe. is there ANYTHING i can do to get my rates like, a lot lower. I can't afford anything more than like $180

    Edit: I am in Kentucky.

I scraped another vehicle at work in a company vehicle

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 04:31 PM PDT

tl;dr I scraped a vehicle while working and my boss wants me to pay out of pocket.

so a few days ago while I was leaving the shop to start deliveries for the day (I work for a local delivery company) I scraped a customers vehicle that was parked outside the store. luckily it was someone I knew, so it wasn't a big commotion. small mistake.

anyways, a while ago my boss switched to fleet insurance for all of the delivery vans. in doing so, he told us that if we have any accidents that we should ask the other person to get a quote so the shop can pay for it.

I was sent a quote by the person I hit, and I sent it to my manager, when he sent it to my boss my boss said "sounds like his problem."

    what should I do?

for jurisdiction purposes I live in British Columbia, Canada.

Student Coverage Verification. Do I send the filled out form to the health insurance company or does my school?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 08:02 PM PDT

Sorry for the stupid question. I'm the dependant.

I have a form that needs to be filled out by hand, latter part to be filled out and stamped by the school only. Form says they won't accept photo copies or faxes, and lists an address for it to be mailed to.

The person who's plan it is insists it's the school that needs to mail the form to them and not us, is that right? That hasn't been my experience with forms that need to be filled out but idk about this. And if they don't accept photo copies does that mean I can't email a PDF with our part filled out to the school? I have to physically bring the partially filled out form to the school for them to finish? Or are companies being more lenient now with COVID?

Delta Dental - claim denied for in-network coverage, but is listed under an old provider. How do I fix this?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 07:12 PM PDT

    United States, located in Texas

I'm not quite sure how to handle this, as it's a first. I have Delta PPO through my job and went for my regular exam and cleaning last month.

The office was recently taken over by a new practice after my old dentist retired due to Covid. They finally got the office up and running around January under the new team. According to Delta's website, the new practice is in-network. All their offices in my city are in-network. When I called Delta early this year to make super sure I'd be covered with the new providers, I was told yes, I was good.

Except. My claim on the Delta site seems to still be under my old dentist's information and so its saying he's a non-participating provider (obviously, the dude is retired now). So I now have a bill for like $250 for cleaning, the Xrays, etc that I shouldn't have because my plan covers all of it.

Should I be contacting Delta themselves or my dentist to try and resolve this?

I'm not looking to go with an exclusive company. Appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

Tenant Loss of Use On Landlord Insurance

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 03:15 PM PDT

Hi, I'm a landlord and rent out my condo in Washington DC (USA). There was a burst pipe and repair work has pretty much gutted the living room and kitchen. The tenants are staying at an airbnb. My insurance policy has the following information:

RATING INFORMATION: TERRITORY 00, RENTAL, MASONRY, YEAR OF CONSTRUCTION 2010 LOSS OF USE $8000 PER OCCURRENCE INCL ADDITIONAL COVERAGES AND CREDITS/SURCHARGES UNIT-OWNER's RENTAL TO OTHERS SURCHARGE INCL

The insurance adjuster said that loss of use is only for me (the owner) and the renters insurance policy should be used to reimburse them for their stay. Is this correct? What's the point of having loss of use on a rental policy? I don't see any additional documents defining exactly what loss of use is on this policy.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    Progressive Claims Adjuster Trainee Question

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 06:25 PM PDT

    Hi everyone!

I completed the HireVue interview and a video chat interview for a claims adjuster trainee position earlier this week (remotely) . If I were to get the job (fingers crossed) how long would the onboarding process be and training and what not? I only ask because I found out today that I need to take one more course to graduate with my Bachelor's next month and the course takes place during the training hours for the claims position. I really do not want to give up the opportunity to have this job if I were to get it but of course I also definitely need to graduate. I would really appreciate any insight or advice. Thank you guys!

Advice after a minor car accident in a private garage. CARFAX and insurance.

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 06:13 PM PDT

[2021 BMW G20, Chicago, IL] Long story short. The parking guy of the garage company I go to, hit the left side of my car against a pillar. No functional damage, only a long scratch across the fender, bumper and door. Their insurance will cover everything and I am going to bring the car to my trusted BMW dealership to have it repaired.

Now, first thing first. I do not think it is fair that also minor body damages have to be reported to CARFAX. It only make things worse for the owner, adding insult to the injury. Bust just imho.
Then, my question is: along the whole procedure, who usually reports the car accident to CarFax? The body repair shop or the insurance (or someone else)?
If in my case the accident is reported, should I stand for additional money against the insurance for the decreased value of the car?

Just FYI, the accident happened in a private property and no police report was made.

Thank you in advance for any tip on the matter.
