Landing my first role as a BDR in NYC.. what are some warning signs I should look for at companies? Posted: 09 Jun 2021 05:49 PM PDT I am switching over to sales for the first time in my career and have been browsing and apply for BDR/SDR positions on LinkedIn. I have been primarily focused on more established firms but considering that I am coming from a nonprofit sector totally unrelated to sales, I think I may have to start out at a startup or a small company to gain experience. So far, these are some encountered situations that I feel that are not most optimal for first BDR roles:
I am trying my best to do my research on companies before applying for them (some of them definitely write their own glassdoor reviews..) but I want to know what kind of warning signs I should look for in companies for my first role as a BDR since I really desire proper training and mentorship at a legitimate company. Would appreciate any insight or advice! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jun 2021 04:56 AM PDT Hi guys, I have started my first sales job at a tiny, but very experienced, agency for coaching and soft skills training. (Communication, motivation, leadership etc.) The thing is that I have an unexplainable fear of cold calling. I am quite an extroverted person, personal meetings are no problem for me and I really enjoy them! But before I pick up a phone I feel that kind of weird feeling that pushes me into procrastination.. Again! And even if I make the call I am not able to pitch as good as I could during face to face meeting. Do you have any tips and tricks on how to approach this? I am pretty sure that is a common problem so I would be really glad, if you could push me over the edge a little bit. PS - really love this subreddit! already learned so much stuff thanks to you guys! [link] [comments] |
Never heard of this - Compensation offers "Rare Passive Income Opportunity" Posted: 09 Jun 2021 04:16 PM PDT I've been approached by a company looking to hire a Senior Sales rep. Before I can truly discuss compensation structure and other details I am required to sign an NDA, so I'll only provide information that is publicly available. The public job posting they provided me with states "No cap on earnings" and a "very rare passive income opportunity." I can honestly say I've never heard of a sales position offering a passive income opportunity as part of the compensation structure, but is it really that unusual? [link] [comments] |
How do you respond to objections? Posted: 09 Jun 2021 10:33 AM PDT What objections do you get most often during a sales meeting (we don't have the budget right now...) and how do you respond to them? [link] [comments] |
Prospecting into mom and pop retailers Posted: 09 Jun 2021 06:46 PM PDT Hey friends! I work at a well known ecommerce company that sells POS and I've just started a new OB BDR role where I'm focused on net new business es that are not on our ecommerce platform. My territory is Canada, and specifically BC. I'm trying to get creative with my prospecting efforts - I find email is okay with B&M businesses. I'm trying out things like Instagram or attending local events virtually but I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions or has sold POS/ similar product to physical retailers? I'm open to trying anything at this point :) [link] [comments] |
Help! Account Executive interview tomorrow. Can I get some tips? Posted: 09 Jun 2021 05:18 PM PDT Just graduated from college. I got lucky and scored a well paying AE interview but I do not have sales experience. I know this is somewhat rare as I don't have the experience. How can I portray myself in a good light when I don't have that? Any potential questions I'll probably get? Just feeling a little anxious about this. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jun 2021 03:02 PM PDT Hello! I was wondering if any of you pros sell solar? I have a job offer at a blue 'bird' (wink wink) solar company. It would be 1099 - but it seems like a great job. You set your own schedule, paid 80% at contract signing - 20% when panels go up, and they pay residual for every month after. Is this a terrible idea? [link] [comments] |
Just received an offer letter-Should I take it? Posted: 09 Jun 2021 11:30 AM PDT Hey everyone, so I just received an offer letter from a up and coming startup selling a saas product in the customer engagement space. It's a remote SDR role with 40k base, 75k ote. My background is selling apartment rentals so this would be my first job in tech sales. The base seems a little low to me so I just wanted to get some feedback from the pros. Is this a fair offer for someone with no direct experience selling saas products? [link] [comments] |
What questions to ask founder for first salaa hire interview (due-diligence). Posted: 09 Jun 2021 07:49 PM PDT I'm now being reached out by founders to be their first sales hire. What are the top questions that should be asked? Want to make sure I'm doing as much due-diligence as possible on my end given the risk. [link] [comments] |
Got a new job offer. Should I tell my current job? Posted: 09 Jun 2021 02:42 PM PDT Current job pays $30k base. Just got an offer for $50k base. Only been at current job 3 weeks. I love the job and my team is awesome. I'd stick around if the base wasn't so shitty. Should I tell them that I got an offer for $50k base and see if they could match it or I leave? Are sales cadences/sequences a waste of time? Posted: 09 Jun 2021 02:50 AM PDT Hey all, I'm working in IT/engineering services selling b2b. I'm a full cycle AE and have to generate my own leads and close. One of the first things I came across when starting this role was the idea of a sales 'cadence'. Essentially a set of activities that you complete in an outbound sales effort. For example, you might have 10 activities/tasks that you do to contact a prospect in a given time period. Over 3 weeks, maybe you would call them 6 times, send 3 emails and 1 linkedIn connection request. In my experience, the majority of the activity in these cadences have proven to be a total waste of time. I have this complex sequence of 21 tasks that I complete over 28 days: 7 calls, 7 emails and 7 LinkedIn/social touches. I have my data for the month of March that I can share here that I got 25 meetings in that month:
So my ratios for the sales cadences was: 23 Calls:6 pick-ups:1 meeting. If you look at the numbers for email and for LinkedIn, the ratio trends towards infinity.... The more experienced sales guys on my team said my calling numbers were strong and they also said 'you'll never set a meeting over email/LI'. And I am tending to agree with them. If it's true that you can't set meetings over email/LinkedIn and I am only setting meetings via calls - are sales cadences/sequences a waste of time? Are there BDs out there setting meetings based on email/linkedin interactions frequently? Am I maybe missing out on something there in my outreach that could be driving more meetings? I ask this because as I look to redesign my outbound process, I'm thinking 'screw the email and LinkedIn, I'll make 7 calls over the course of 3 weeks and that's how I'll get 96% of my meetings'. Thoughts from others? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jun 2021 06:01 PM PDT Hey all- I've been lurking long time here. Not sure if this sorta thing is allowed, but how can we all help each other? Is there a job posting area where we can put out there good jobs we've seen, our it own company, etc? My company actually does pay 6 figure salary plus commission, and we have some openings - NJ/PA based. That said, personally - I'm looking for something more remote, some travel ok, 15+ years sales experience globally (I can go on and on about how amazing I am, j/k) but want to ensure I also move to a company others of you have had positive experience... does this sort of job opening sharing exist on this board? The sales rat race. Moving up in your sales career. Posted: 09 Jun 2021 01:52 PM PDT Has anyone else had the experience of being a salesperson that hustles hard for the companies you've worked for, but not got been paid or treated for the value you've provided? I've only been doing sales for 8 months. The 1 thing that I've experienced as I climb my way up in my sales career and find better gigs is that people are trying to leverage me constantly. Everyone is saying that it's best to work for them, this that and the other. To those with more experience, as a natural salesperson, what is the best way to get out there, and not be over promised compensation. What's the best way to really move up in the sales world? Btw feeling bitter right now lol but need the hard truth on how to get to the status of making a ton in sales if you've got the skill. [link] [comments] |
In what other areas of life have your sales skill helped you in some way? Posted: 08 Jun 2021 02:39 PM PDT As we all agree: to know how to talk and persuade someone is a very valuable skill and it can change the way of a communication completely. So I was wondering did you ever notice that you gained some kind of advantage in different circumstances than selling due to your ability to talk so well? [link] [comments] |

Building a customer base with GDPR for start ups Posted: 09 Jun 2021 10:31 AM PDT Something I've been thinking about is how to you create customers out of nothing? I've worked for small companies but they had a database of around 10,000 who we would market to. What are your options for acquiring a list? [link] [comments] |
Advice on selling to the Netherlands? Posted: 09 Jun 2021 01:14 PM PDT Hi all, I do business development for a SaaS company and was recently assigned a new market to work on - the Netherlands. Does anyone here have experience with Dutch business culture and could provide some advice? What do they value in a product? Or in a business partner? Which channels (mail/phone/LinkedIn etc.) are the most welcome/popular? How formal should I keep my language? Anything else that you would consider important? Edit: would also appreciate some info on Belgium/Luxemburg as I will be working on those as well. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
A business-savvy marketer, wants to partner with a skilled worker - how do I approach this? Posted: 09 Jun 2021 09:14 AM PDT I'm looking for some advice on how to approach plumbers, electricians etc. with a partnership offer. By trade, I'm a marketer. Now, 90% of times this type of businesses work quite archaically. These skilled workers make a living, but the service is subpar. No one is employing a CRM for tracking and re-engaging the customers. They pour piles of money into very bad marketing, and companies are taking advantage of them. I can go on and on, on how fixing discrepancies could turn a one-man-show who makes good living, into an empire of employees. In general, I have a vision of joining forces with a skilled worker who just started his path in his trade and I want to take on the managing side of the business - scaling, finances, marketing, customer service, branding... This is not to say I'm going to manage him, or he'll be my employee, but rather we will work as partners. The question is, what would be considered good terms? How do I approach someone with such an offer? I'm asking this because it's easy to feel ripped off when someone is telling you "You go and bust your back in the field, I'll be in my office. Oh, and let's share profit!" But, of course, there's much more to it than this. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jun 2021 09:13 AM PDT Hi everyone, I'm running an outreach campaign targeting realtors. We are currently emailing and calling. I don't think we can text these organizations. Is there any other channel/form of outreach we should be doing? [link] [comments] |
How do I make the sales guy happy?( well yeah...) Posted: 09 Jun 2021 11:41 AM PDT So I really love sales, and I understand how important it is to have people who close deals via phones/emails or anyone who's doing sales in general. BUT, being a 20 year old I usually don't have much to buy or offer the sales guy who's working tirelessly to complete his target for the day. For the next time when somebody calls me and pitches me his product/service and if I already know that I'm not the right guy and I won't be buying anything, how do I politely refuse the sales person? How do I tell him that I might not be the right person to sell this thing to? How do I refuse him and instead motivate him so that he keeps on doing a great job? TL;DR As a salesguy, what would you like to hear from your prospects so that even if you don't make a sale, you hang up the phone with a smile. Thank you for this amazing community! You're the best! Posted: 09 Jun 2021 04:06 AM PDT Hi all, following an interview, I was told by the recruiter, he believes the company is going to offer me two roles, one being in cyber security focused role, while the other is a more general hardware/SaaS role(I interviewed for this role but asked some higher level cloud questions). I am interested in both, although I would likely be better equipped in the general VAR role, than strictly cyber security(current background is more parallel to general position). I am open to learning more and pursuing the role that is strictly cybersecurity, but I am unsure how that market is, vs the generalized role. Would love some thoughts and opinions! When to move on from underpaid resume-builder position? Posted: 08 Jun 2021 05:14 PM PDT About a year and a half ago I took a job at a startup that would be a resume builder for the SaaS world. Definitely underpaid but have to my credit - some huge accounts I've brought on and crushing quota. Exactly as I planned only... I have no idea when enough is enough. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
