Intentionally Broke Parking Garage Arm. Insurance implications? Posted: 31 May 2021 05:32 PM PDT Yesterday, I visited my friends up in Boston and parked at a gated garage. Long story short, I had to grab my car extremely urgently for an emergency so I ran to the garage and tried to leave but the gate arm was not functioning no matter what. Given the dire circumstances, I exited my car, went to the gate arm and physically moved it out of the way (thereby breaking it), and proceeded to leave urgently. I called the manager of the garage to repay for the damage dealt and he said he would call the police and stop pursuit (about 8 hours after the incident). I am willing to pay 100% of the damages out of pocket and will do so. Will there be insurance implications for such an event? [link] [comments]
Geico affiliated mechanic shop messed up my car Posted: 01 Jun 2021 04:52 AM PDT After filing a claim n paying my deductible to fix my bumper, my radar (for adaptive cruise control n etc.) had to be recalibrated because that's required? Not sure. Now my radar is messed up and would give me "brake warnings" for times I really don't have to brake. Adaptive cruise control is also messed up, constantly braking n gassing all at the wrong time. Very dangerous. I am wondering if Geico will pay to have my car recalibrated again or do I have to contact the mechanics shop and pay out of pocket for a mistake they made. [link] [comments]
Is there an expectation of privacy with your insurance agent? Posted: 01 Jun 2021 06:01 AM PDT Title, in regard to home and auto type insurance. The reason I ask is that a coworker's daughter (we are just an office, nothing to do with insurance) recently became/went through all the certification to do personal lines insurance, and she tells absolutely EVERYTHING/sends customer pics to her mother in regard to their clients' dealings. For instance there was a bad 2 car, 2 fatality accident recently. One of the deceased was insured and daughter's agency. Daughter texted copy of police report and then was texting about how the ex wife came in all distraught because it was their son's car and the ex husband who passed was not a named driver and did not have a license. Also texted were pics of the wrecked vehicles. Just...pretty tacky. When people add on to, buy, or renovate their homes, this agent goes and gets pics or requests pics from their clients. These pics always end up being texted to my coworker, who then goes by to check it out if it's something that can be seen externally, just out of being nosy. She also texts her about insurance amounts of homes, vacation homes, and added coverage for extra valuables. All of this and the above info is then shared with everyone in my office as gossip, and who knows how many others outside of here. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want MY insurance agent sending these things all around. Is there any expectation of privacy at all with your insurance agent? I have all my stuff at this agent, and while I have nothing to hide, I am very creeped out by this. [link] [comments]
Progressive Accident Forgiveness Experience Posted: 31 May 2021 06:50 PM PDT I backed into my mother-in-law's car in my driveway and I have Progressive auto insurance. I'm trying to figure out if I should report it, since I have Diamond-level (5 years as a customer) and that gives me large accident forgiveness (no dollar value limit and will not increase me rates). Does anyone else have experience with this type of claim? I'm wondering if they get around the no rate increase bit by just removing my 5-years with no accidents discount. If they remove a discount, it'd be the exact same thing as just giving me a better rate for not having an accident and then raising it when I have one. I suppose it's better than both removing the discount and also then increasing the pre-discounted rate. The $500 collision deductible will almost definitely be less than the cost of repairs (assuming $1,000-$1,500 between the two of our cars, as I cracked her bumper and broke both my and her headlight covers), but if the loss of a discount is $100/month (current rate is $100/month for two cars), it would definitely be worth just paying for all of the damage, so I'm just curious what the true cost of using the forgiveness program is. Homeowners Insurance Underwriting Issues Posted: 31 May 2021 01:38 PM PDT I live in California and I seem to be having trouble getting proper homeowner's insurance on a new house I just bought. Basically, the title is 50% under my name and 50% under a trust, as tenants in common. I am not a trustee of the trust but I am a beneficiary. There is no mortgage on the house, and also, I am the sole person residing in the home. Due to how this title is set up, a bunch of the insurance companies I've reached out to said they are not able to properly underwrite a policy to fully cover the house. They've given me a variety of reasons that don't quite make sense, but basically they all seem to revolve around them not knowing how to handle the 50% of the house that's owned by the trust. Does anyone know what my options are? A friend mentioned that maybe the Loss Payable clause can be used in this situation, but I'm not sure how quite that would work. I'm hoping maybe someone has some ideas here, and then I can go back to the insurance companies and advise them on how to underwrite the policy? Anyways, if anyone has any ideas, please let me know! Car insurance is charging me for losing my job? Posted: 31 May 2021 08:24 AM PDT I've recently become unemployed and my car insurance wants to charge me £100 to make that change on my policy. They said if I don't update the policy within 14 days then they will cancel my policy which would mean I would have to pay a cancellation fee plus a fee for the remaining months on the policy. Is this fair? Are all car insurers like this? What can I do? UK [link] [comments]
Does the AAI designation provide any value to commercial underwriters? Posted: 31 May 2021 11:40 PM PDT My understanding of this designation is it is primarily geared towards producers and other people working more on the agency side of the industry. But for anyone who either has this designation or is familiar with it overall, would there be any value to a commercial underwriter to pursue this one? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 May 2021 11:26 PM PDT We are moving 3 hours behind where we are currently so I most likely just need to quit my job. We are driving to our new area and its going to take basically a week. So we are jammed busy the next week and a half. She found out last week and we have been super busy this weekend and will be for the next week and a half. I am on short term disability currently until 6/6 and we are planning on leaving 6/11 if not even sooner. They want her down there ASAP. I have physical therapy a couple days before the return to work date. My doctor is also really cool about it because he knows how much of an issue this has been for me so I am not that worried about extending it. This is supposed to help fix my issue and then I am supposed to talk to my doctor and decide if I need a longer extension but I have no idea if this physical therapy will help me enough where I could work for the last week but I am kind of hoping it doesn't enough so I can get my STD extended at least until my "last day". It would be great to not worry about work the last couple days before we are moving since this is all happening so fast. Should I even mention I am moving to the doctor? (afterthought, I guess I need to anyway to get further follow up care help) That said, I haven't worked in several weeks and I could just say I have to give a week notice only, which would take me to my current return to work date. Not much is going to change anyway if I was there or not. What is going to happen with my STD if I quit my job? How is all of that going to work and does anyone have any recommendations or advice? I am on STD through the insurance through my work. I most likely will need to continue to see a doctor in my new area when we move. Any thoughts, advice, or recommendations would be great. (Sorry if it rambles or doesn't make sense. Pain pills make me not able to think. Part of the issue I can't work due to my main issue) Thanks in advance : ) [link] [comments]
Do the crazy prices of used and salvage cars affect whether an insurance company totals a vehicle? Posted: 31 May 2021 09:02 AM PDT On Thursday night I hit a deer doing around 50 MPH in my 2015 Forester. The deer hit the driver's side headlight area, so it was basically like the IIHS small overlap test except with a large animal as the barrier. The damaged area is relatively small, but the the level of damage in that area is quite extensive. The car was drivable but making a whining noise so I opted for a tow. The towing company dropped it off at the body shop on Friday. I know prices on used cars have gone absolutely insane with the shortage of new cars and I've heard salvage prices are also up. I'm curious if the spike in prices will affect the insurance company decision whether to total it or have the damage repaired. I have State Farm if it makes a difference. Posted: 31 May 2021 07:36 PM PDT My girlfriend never drives but will be buying the car because she has better credit than me. We will be adding my name to the insurance on the vehicle as a driver but will that be enough for the company to approve it? We are trying to get the car before she will be able to get her license renewal due to her work hours. [link] [comments]
Should I be afraid to use my uninsured motorist coverage for fear of raising my premiums? Posted: 31 May 2021 01:32 PM PDT My partner and I was in the middle of a 3 car accident. My car (worth 12-14k) is definitely totaled. The at-fault car was unregistered, uninsured, and driven by a teen. I already made a claim and I will definitely be using UM to help pay for a new car. My insurance offered me rental, medical injury pay, and PIP. Should I be afraid to use these? The rep told me not to worry about the rental as it only adds hundreds whereas we already know they will be paying thousands to replace the car. I would like a rental since it'd be inconvenient without one. But if it raises the premiums, then I can try without. My partner and I are both injured, but afraid to get a check up due to costs/my insurance premium rising. I have medical insurance, but he doesn't. I have a seatbelt injury with bruising and redness. He has a seatbelt, neck and knee injury. We're hoping it'll go away, but would like to get check if it doesn't affect the premiums. I'd like to claim PIP if possible. Should I consult a lawyer against my own insurance? Would that make it worse or would it benefit me? I am in Texas. [link] [comments]
Question about USAA auto insurance and canceling for late payment? Posted: 31 May 2021 06:18 PM PDT I got a letter my policy is scheduled to be canceled if I don't pay by June 1st.. I don't have the money right now but will in a few days. Does USAA offer extensions or can I set it to be "delivered by" in a few days when I'll have the money in my account, and that could count as payment? If neither of these are an option, what time tomorrow would the bill be due? Thanks so much if anyone knows!! Just in a rough spot right now and hoping they have some sort of mercy policy haha. APTC/Cost-Sharing Reduction Questions Posted: 31 May 2021 05:09 PM PDT I am about to separate from the military and I'm currently in the market for healthcare. I've exhausted all my options from the military side of things and have decided to detached from any sort of Tricare sponsored programs. I am applying the the DC Health program to gain assistance with private healthcare. I am being shown that I am covered for 225 APTC (Advanced Premium Tax Credit) and 70% Cost-Sharing Reduction. Is this typically good for keeping costs down, yet still be able to see a good quality doctor with reasonable wait times? I'm in my 20's but I do routinely see doctors due to pre-existing conditions. How to handle buying a home with an apparent open insurance claim? Posted: 31 May 2021 10:10 AM PDT I got my offer accepted recently. But while finishing up my loan approval we got our went to our insurance agent for home insurance quotes. He said a claim from 2018 is still open. However, the current owners have been living there since early fall 2019. What are my options, I'm being advised to look for other agents, however, the closing date is coming soon at the end of the week next week. The claims according to my Agent read as follow:

Health Insurance Open Enrollment Tax Credit Question Posted: 31 May 2021 03:58 PM PDT Hello, I recently found out because of some 2021 legislature passed that my monthly premiums are lower, basically I have another $100 dollars of tax credit to use towards it (yay!). Can I get any money back for what I spent already or would that come back on my tax return? I'm a 1099 employee so used to paying taxes rather than getting returns. But have a family accountant who just tells me what I owe so I don't understand too much. Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
Can I be on someone else’s policy in another state ? Posted: 31 May 2021 02:04 PM PDT Context: For multiple reasons I'm having a hard time finding affordable insurance. I know I could be on say, someone else's policy that I live with, but I'd rather not ask them. I live in Florida and my friend lives in North Carolina. My car would be of course registered in Florida and his in NC. Could he put me on his policy ? The policy would basically have his car in NC with his address, and mine in FL with my address. Will I be better off going with an in-network repair shop or out of network? Posted: 31 May 2021 02:00 PM PDT I was just curious if there would be any difference at all. I believe I am going to be found at fault for the accident. I'm not sure if I should make the trip to an in-network shop for damage estimate and repairs or if I should take it to a local shop. State is Rhode Island. [link] [comments]
insuring car with learner's permit? Posted: 31 May 2021 12:12 PM PDT Hello! So I've just gotten my learner's permit here in Colorado about a month ago (I'm 24- lived in Boston prior so I didn't need a car). I live with a roommate and obviously didn't want to obligate him with a new driver in his car, so when I got my tax return I bought a car. Now, I need to insure the thing, but I only have a permit. Additionally, I'm moving soon, so my roommate doesn't want to add me to his insurance (and him teaching me to drive is already nice, I don't wanna ask more of him). How can I get insurance so that I can register my car? [link] [comments]
Is Tennessee a Diminished Value State? Posted: 31 May 2021 11:28 AM PDT Was in an accident a month ago in a 2021 Honda Odyssey. I was not at fault and am trying to claim diminish of value. Whenever I look it up online, all the information points to TN being a DV state, yet when I call in to Progressive to try and file a DV claim, they say that TN is not a DV state. I can not tell which is true. Does Progressive just have different policies, or is the information online false. What do I do in this case. [link] [comments]
Car hit while parked. Can I drive it now? Posted: 31 May 2021 07:31 AM PDT Hi all, A neighbor was backing out of his driveway the other day and backed his truck into my car. He was on his way to the dealer to trade in the truck…ugh for him, I felt bad even though he hit my car…but luckily there was no damage to the truck. My car (Mazda Miata) did sustain some damage to the driver's side front quarter panel and the side of the front bumper that connects to it. Question is this…I need to drive my car today, but my insurance company's claims office is closed on Memorial Day. Awesome sauce. If I document the damage with a bunch of photos, can I push the plastic wheel well trim back into place so I can drive it? It does not look like the frame was damaged or the alignment is off, etc. although obviously I don't know for sure. What I don't want to do is anything that would muddy the waters on what is very clearly a one-sided accident (neighbor is admitting fault and has opened a claim with his insurance company) by driving it to where his company can say I made it worse/caused additional damage, etc. I've googled but can't find a great answer. Hoping for some advice here. Thanks in advance. EDIT: I am in Arkansas. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 May 2021 05:05 PM PDT So I got my State Farm DS&S device today and it hit me.....I drive A LOT....5 days a week, to and from work for a total of 700 miles. That's 2800 miles/mo. and 33,600/yr. What if u were to pit this device in my parents car instead? They drive about 3x/week running errands. And they're much "safer" drivers than myself. Could I possibly scam the system by doing this? Or is there some telling factor that will foil the plan? P.S. - Asking for a friend 😉😅 [link] [comments]
A car insurance app that benefits a driver (not just the car insurer :) ) Posted: 31 May 2021 10:26 AM PDT I'm making an app designed to help the drivers decrease risk on the roads by providing them with helpful drive tips, based on their driving behaviour. The app also integrates with the info stored with your car insurer. My question is, what type of information on your car insurance would you like to see in an app like this? Or are you using an app that is similar to this? What does it have? What is it missing? :) [link] [comments] |
