    Insurance Adjuster Career

    Posted: 27 Jun 2021 04:21 AM PDT

Hello all! Just got an offer from Progressive to be a Insurance Adjuster trainee. Anyone in this world want to offer some insight on it? I'm currently working at the USPS as a carrier and make $19.01 an hour and work 6 days a week, 12 hours a day. Is this job going to allow me to make similar money? I want more time to be with my family and the USPS is just so demanding right now.

Edit: I am in the Cleveland area in Ohio. I understand that you don't need an official license in Ohio. But any info would helpZ

Will I be able to be added as a driver under USAA?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2021 06:58 AM PDT

I've previously had auto insurance with USAA, during that time my spouse totaled a car under my policy which has left me with a good amount of debt. One of my parents wants to add me to their insurance as a driver. Would USAA allow this?

Broke bone prior to health insurance change

    Posted: 27 Jun 2021 06:13 AM PDT

I live in California and broke a bone last week, went to the ER, and have to do therapy for several months. I am changing insurance on July 1st (open enrollment) and am locked into my selection.

I am currently enrolled with Insurance#1 until June 30, and will start my new plan on July 1st. I need to get treatment for the injury happened while I was under Insurance #1's coverage, but will happen while enrolled with Insurance #2.

Who is liable for my health protection in this case?

    Thanks for the advice!

biking and skiing disability and life insurance

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 03:46 PM PDT

    Hi r/insurance!

I've spent my life participating in sports with a bit of risk. Since having kids, and a couple of recent scares, I've cut back on my participation in these types of sports and cut a few out of my life completely (no more ww kayaking or BASE). I have been cutting back because I really really don't want to become a liability to my family. That being said, I'm terribly bored, and ready to get back after it. However the fear of my wife and kids having to take care of me or not being able to provide (Im not the proverbial bread winner but I contribute) if something goes wrong, still has me a bit freaked out. So I'd like some advice on how to insure myself and my family from large medical bills, long term care, long term disability as well as increasing my life insurance policy. What do I need to know? Moto, bike and skiing would be the main activities. I'm an Oregon resident, 40 yrs old male with two minor children. We currently have some life and pretty good health insurance but I'm not sure of the details regarding the additional coverage I'm looking for.

    Thanks in advance.

Another car caused our car to be in an accident and took off.

    Posted: 27 Jun 2021 12:14 AM PDT

A phantom driver caused an accident on the Freeway, which resulted in damage of our car..

This evening, while our family's car was on the Freeway, a car from the right lane abruptly entered into our lane with not enough space available for it to do so safely.

The car also did not signal at all. It was extremely sudden and abrupt. In order to avoid collision and to prevent a big accident, the driver of our car had to slightly turn the handle to the left lane to avoid the car from getting hit. However, the car in the left lane was ALSO for some reason in the process of trying to enter our lane, so as a result, our car and the right car ended up having slight contact.

Two cars from both the left and right were trying to enter our lane, and endangered our car.

The cars to the right and left of us did not hesitate to stop or make any effort to confront the accident at all. It was on a busy freeway, so it was also impossible to do so.

The right car that initially tried to abruptly enter our lane ended up driving on our lane briefly, and then switched over to its original lane and sped off. The car on the left that had contact with our car also continued on their lane and just sped off.

Our car does not have a black box, and we are unsure of what we are supposed to do in a situation like this, when a phantom driver has caused an accident. We exited our car at the nearest exit, and checked our car. Our car has damage on the upper body on the drivers side.

We don't know what to do. We are also worried that we will be at fault, in case the car from the left lane that had contact with us happens to have a black box on their car, and reports this incident to their insurance company.

Should we go ahead and report this to our insurance company right away which is AAA?

I am too old to go back to school, I also could not keep up with it. I feel like this maybe an interesting choice for the future but, I am not sure of the market. I have also heard bad things about becoming an agent right now. I am in the midst of starting a new career, so can anyone give me some input?

Wife's parked vehicle involved in a hit and run

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 10:04 AM PDT

So my wife was at a city water park with my son and she had her car parked on the street in front of the park as well as a police station. Well someone hit her car and kept going a day later the officer called saying the man turned himself in and confessed to texting and hitting our car and running. The problem is he didn't have insurance and we just purchased this vehicle this spring and sounds like a total loss on our car ( we are fully covered)

Other than a police report and insurance claim is there anything else on our end we should do? We'd really would like the car repaired, we had a quote from a dealer for over 7k in repairs and the vehicle is valued lower so we understand if we have to total it but rather not.

Another thing is how to negotiate with insurance if they decide to total it? Being the vehicle shortages dealer said they can't get a car until the 16th of July, and my wife is also due at the end of July so trying to get this figured out before hand.

Location is Anoka county, MN State farm insurance

    Universal Renters Insurance

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 09:29 PM PDT

I have 30K in personal property coverage in renter's insurance. My agent also told me that my coverage is universal, meaning if I go to the bahamas and lose my laptop there, I can pay the deductible and insurance will cover the rest of the value lost. So basically, is my understanding correct in that now I pretty much have 30K of my personal belongings no matter if I lose somethign in my apartment, stolen at a coffee store, broken in Europe, etc? There's gotta be a catch right? No way I'm only paying like $10 a month for this insane coverage

    Is this collision, or vandalism?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 05:01 PM PDT

As I was driving south on a pretty busy street, a man on a scooter tried to ride fast and past me, I slowed down as I saw him and as he cleared the lanes of traffic I put my high beam on him, because I was annoyed.. well he retaliated by flipping his scooter at my car as I passed, breaking my side mirror... He didn't go very far, found him, parked called the cops. They got there pretty quick and questioned him, he's got warrants and was extremely drunk. Anyway he got arrested and I pressed charges. What I'm wondering is the person I spoke to with insurance said if I file the claim it's up to the claims person to determine if it's possibly collision? Which would waive my deductible as I doubt this jerk has any insurance? But vandalism I'd be on the hook for?

Edit to add: he rode past west bound across the lanes of traffic no where near any signal or cross walk, just a drunk dude trying to get to the other side while traffic is going 45-50 mph

    Also: im in California

What will insurance cover in a no-fault accident?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 08:01 PM PDT

Hi, I live in Texas and recently I got into an accident in which the other driver was at fault. The police report reflects that. I called the other driver's insurance to file a claim, and they told me that their policyholder had already filed it, so they directed me to the person in charge of the case. I gave the agent my version of events, and he told me that they had to TALK to their policyholder before getting my car from the towing place and moving it to their secure lot where they would inspect it and determine wether the car was fixable or not.

It's been 5 days since the accident and I have not been updated, is this normal? Should I contact them?

I also received a notice from the towing company detailing the cost of my car being in their lot, this notice names me as the registered owner, which is obvious, but they also name the registered lien holder even though my car is paid off. My car title says I'm the owner and that the lien was released.

So what I'm asking is if the other guy's insurance will pay the towing place? And, if it's normal for the lien holder to be named in the towing documentation?

    Thanks for your help.

When should I get my paid deductible back from State Farm?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 09:46 AM PDT

Back at the end of October a drunk driver totaled my parked car. This drunk driver damaged 6 cars total in this incident and was arrested. This is in California, US.

State Farm gave me a check for the value of my car with the $2000 deductible subtracted.

This was obviously 100% the drunk driver's fault and their insurance agreed. However, the person was underinsured for the damage that they did.

I have not yet received my $2000 deductible back from State Farm. I've emailed multiple times asking why it cannot be released to me and the person tells me that it's the other insurance, Progressive, that hasn't paid them yet. I don't understand - my insurance company State Farm was the one that received my deductible, not Progressive. Why are they holding onto it? If the other insurance won't pay them back the full amount does State Farm get to say that they want to keep my deductible or some of it? Is that really how this works?

What are your recommendations or experience with Root insurance?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 05:08 PM PDT

I have been with Geico insurance for several years now but looking to switch to Root as that quote is $200 less for the six month contract. I heard some bad reviews for people involved in an accident or has claim with Root. Would they jack up the price after six months? Please share your experience with Root.

    switching insurance and jobs?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 01:06 PM PDT

If I reach my maximum benefits for health and dental insurance at Job A, with say, metlife insurance,

and than go to another job before the year end, which also offers the same tier of metlife insurance,

will my benefits counter restart from 0, or do I have to wait till the new year to restart from 0?

I assume if I switched jobs and insurances (tier or company) that I get a new slate, regardless.

    Thanks!!

    Ontario, Canada Driving Insurance question

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 02:51 PM PDT

My friend was driving me to the airport in British Columbia and got a speeding ticket. She lives in Ontario and has an Ontario license. It looks like BC, Nunavut, and Quebec didn't sign the CDLC. Will the demerit points transfer over to her Ontario record and will her insurance know about it and increase her premiums?

Most money to be made in insurance? What role should I look for after college that’d give me the best career path and allow me to make the most money.

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 02:26 PM PDT

I'm currently a finance major at a state school in the Midwest I have a decent Cumulative GPA of a 3.53/4.00 scale.

I have great leadership opportunities, extracurriculars, volunteer work, and a well put together resume.

I have an underwriting position at a small insurance carrier in my city. Currently getting paid 20/hr for the gig, was wondering what people would expect my salary to be if offered a full-time job? Was also wondering where and how I can make the most money if I decide to get into insurance. I did have a co-worker say he received a $30,000 bonus last year, he's an MGU.

So far, from my small experience I've been hearing the lucrative money is on the brokerage side. Just curious, and want to get some feedback on this!

    Thanks

Anyone here sell ACA and ancillary plans?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 10:58 AM PDT

Im currently a W2 agent with a company that sells obamacare and ancillary benefits. What is the commission for an independent broker to sell both marketplace and ancillary benefits? I currently make 14/hr base, $10 per marketplace app, and commissions for ancillary that go from 15%, 18%, 21%, and 25% (depending on how much we sold the previous month).

In a year or two I'd definitely consider going independent and invest 10k in leads to get a full pipeline from day one.

    Advice?

Car Insurance - Automotive Liability Property Damage amount?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 10:24 AM PDT

Is there any reason to get anything more than, say $50,000 of coverage for Property Damage Liability (the one where, if you are at fault, you cover the other person's car repairs - and I guess house if you were to have crashed into it).

I mean, you can't really plan for which car you crash into, right? So if you crash into a Honda Civic, NBD. But if you crash into a Ferarri - well, isn't it fair to say that they are going to have underinsured coverage to "take care" of the rest? I mean, how much is considered fair to be covered for. Because if you have to expect to cover for a Ferarri or what ever the most expensive car out there is, well then NOBODY should be on the road.

(Adding that I'm in SF Bay Area, F50, so lots of expensive cars around. But also lots of wealthy drivers who, I mean, if they are going to get an expensive car, need to be prepared for lowly ol' me to crash into it.)

Empty property back in UK - Insurance advice

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 10:00 AM PDT

Have just come back to the UK for a few weeks, but found myself unexpectedly living abroad for the last 9 months.

I wondered if anyone has any advice regarding insurance of your property in the UK whilst away. My current home and contents insurance only covers me leaving the property unoccupied for up to 60 days per year, are there specialist insurers that provide cover for your bolthole back home, or do you just tell your current insurer you are away.

Advice, horror stories and successes all welcome!

    Thanks

    Allstates murky Dec page...buyer beware

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 04:30 PM PDT

Been with allstate over 10 years never a claim. Recently had a hit and run driver hit my car. I was advised my uninsured motorist property damage would cover it like other companies do. Well when I called I was told that it didn't...funny thing I read them their declarations page which clearly says a uninsured motorist is a unknown driver both the identity and operator is unknown. Then later states um property damage is covered by definition of a uninsured driver....when I called the representative didn't know her own Dec page and when we read it she brushed me off with a seat of the pants answer.
