Dealing with smart fraudsters: ecommerce fraud protection help? Posted: 10 Jun 2021 05:07 AM PDT Hi folks, Have a small business that does a small portion of our sales in DTC ecommerce. We've had a few "bot" fraud attempts but we were able to work with our web developers to institute protections. Annoying, but not the end of the world. However, recently we've had a series of interesting transactions where the fraudsters are getting smart, and they're doing it manually which makes it harder.
THEN, what happened recently was we noticed that for 2 of these transactions the person (different names) had the same exact voice/accent, so it prompted us to call the number listed on the transaction (instead of them calling us). Turns out, the real Jane Doe answered and told us she had already alerted her credit card company to the fraud. TL;DR: the thieves are getting smarter and I'm wondering if anyone has come across this before, and if there's any safeguards we can institute aside from calling the person directly and asking them for their DOB and SSN (joking... kind of). Please help! Would you buy my idea Posted: 10 Jun 2021 04:03 AM PDT Basically I am designing a prototype and and will be testing soon but I need to know will people buy it. Would you buy it?? So in my house and a couple others I have seen people annoyed cause kids won't change toilet rolls and other people I have spoken to said they'd buy it just so they didn't have to change them. My idea is to have a machine that changes the toilet paper automatically and will fit in any small toilet. It will hold about 20 rolls of toilet paper, detect when the roll is empty drop it in a bin below and put a fresh one in. What do you guys think? [link] [comments] |
Dilemma Starting business and quiting my job Posted: 10 Jun 2021 03:07 AM PDT I'm having trouble quitting my job to start a small business. I have kids to cater for and according to the plan I have in place, I might have 8 months and then things fall in place. I'm really confused because I don't know how bad things will go. What if I quit my job then my small business fails terribly? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jun 2021 02:38 AM PDT I have an idea for a specific design/type of clothing that I would like to produce and sell. I definitely believe there is a market for this type of thing but am unsure as to how to get started. Do I need clothing patterns before I find a manufacturer? Any starting advice would be appreciated! [link] [comments] |
How do you manage your time as a solopreneur? Posted: 09 Jun 2021 01:46 PM PDT I run a small business (I am the business) and I am struggling to manage my time. There are enough hours in the day for my tasks, but I constantly procrastinate and scrape by the hair of my neck when it comes to deadlines. How do I fix this? Are there any good resources? Have you guys ever been doubted of your ability to run a small business successfully Posted: 09 Jun 2021 10:02 PM PDT What I mean by this is, you tell a few people of your business (or they find out about it) and they just don't believe you have what it takes to run a business, or it just won't be successful. By successful I don't mean millionaire, but good enough to make a living off of it. How would you respond to this, especially given that running a small business can be quite difficult. I don't want to give up on mine but it's hard to push through the negativity Running a business all by yourself is hard as it is, but I love what I do. So people saying that's it's a bad idea really takes a toll on my confidence [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jun 2021 06:41 AM PDT U.S jobless claims declined to 376,000 last week, as layoff ease and hiring pick up according to @USDOL Employers added 559,000 jobs in May, falling short of many economists predictions and businesses difficulties filling open jobs as potential workers remained on sidelines. Posted: 10 Jun 2021 03:46 AM PDT Hello, I'm owner of small local shop, that sell items from mixed pallets. I'm from Eastern Europe, and I'm buying goods from locals and from merkandi.com. 90% of them from Germany. A friend of mine bought some pallets with returns from Netherlands/Belgium and France, but doesn't want to tell me how he get them. I'm interested in buying truckloads of them, but couldn't find a website where this option is available. So if you have information, please provide me contact details. Thanks in advance! New start up but money is funny Posted: 10 Jun 2021 05:46 AM PDT Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm new to the space and I have a great concept for a start up with no money to get it off the ground. Are there any grants or lenders out there willing to take a chance on a determined entrepreneur? Any direction or consideration would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Profit margin when producing parts for a big Company? Posted: 10 Jun 2021 12:50 AM PDT I run a small 3D printing business and I have 3 3D printers. I got in contact with an Italian company to produce parts for them. I made a test sample which they liked, and now they want to order one hundred parts. My problem is that they need me to decide on pricing by Friday tomorrow. I some of you guys have any experience dealing with big companies, it would really help me to have some better insight in this problem. The the parts material cost and all expenses included is 9€. This first batch of hundred parts will take me 15 to 20 days to finish. They plan on ordering thousands more, we discussed this, and I will have to create a small 3d printing farm. But I really struggle with deciding on the price on this scale because I've never done it before. Cheers! [link] [comments] |
Building a website, need some advice? Posted: 10 Jun 2021 08:00 AM PDT I am trying to find the best web host to help with my website (Wordpress, wix, godaddy, etc…). I'm trying to figure out the best one for me, I am a member of an LLC that sells clothes and other apparel to niche market. I have a drop shipping manufacturer already and they are willing to work with whomever I choose. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? Anything is appreciated, I'm a little overwhelmed by the options and feel like I don't have enough information to make my decision (kind of joking). Also I'm on mobile so sorry about any formatting [link] [comments] |
Bureaucracy, red tape, and government idealism. Posted: 10 Jun 2021 08:00 AM PDT My city has one of the highest minimum wages in the country and mandatory PTO, even for part time employees. From my calculations, there is a gigantic risk in hiring somebody, as it assumes that they will, at the very LEAST, sustainably double my profits. I'd pay out more than I take home. Has anybody ever moved their business due to bureaucratic idealism like this? I served on one of the government committees and have seen that this is a social experiment to the politicians. Even city-funded research said it's a bad idea. The majority of small businesses here have gone under or moved since the increase. Only big box has been able to handle it. My business is doing very well, but the wage hike creates so much dang gray area. [link] [comments] |

Accounting Help for Small Businesses Posted: 09 Jun 2021 07:07 PM PDT Accounting and bookkeeping is essential for every business. Just a reminder to utilize your local SBDC (Small Business Development Center). All of the SBDC's services are low-cost or free (it's your taxpayer dollars at work). I'm currently studying for the CPA exam (with UWorld Roger CPA) and have worked at an SBDC. They're usually housed on college campuses throughout the country. It is a wonderful resource; please use https://www.sba.gov/local-assistance to find a center near you. [link] [comments] |
Small Business Acquisition Loan Posted: 09 Jun 2021 05:23 PM PDT My spouse is trying to buy the franchise they've worked at for years, owner is selling for a little over $500k. We've contacted a couple banks and our credit is good enough but they require a 15-20% down payment, and we have maybe 10k saved right now. Is it a lost cause, or are there grants available, anything like that? Any other subreddits I should be asking? Edit: we are in Arizona if that makes any difference [link] [comments] |
The most controversial question: Is Salesforce good for SMBs? Posted: 10 Jun 2021 03:39 AM PDT When small companies see the names of such giants as Google, T-Mobile, Amazon, Vodafone, American Express, Toyota, and Adidas that have chosen SF, some doubts appear regarding if it's a fir for SMBs then. I would say that it is. Still, there are some cons: - Costs Implementing a CRM such as Salesforce, at first sight, seems to burn a hole in your pocket. Subscription, customization, and add-ons costs can add up quickly. - Learning curve Salesforce customization capabilities both attract and scare away. Given its numerous clouds and countless features, a regular end-user can be overwhelmed. - Implementation complexity BUT Salesforce offers unlimited scalability of the data model. So no need to pay for extra data migration and new onboarding. We have also described a typical configuration for SMBs from our experience to show how Salesforce can contribute to the success of a small business. Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |
