Cancelled classes - 0 compensation Posted: 19 Jun 2021 04:34 AM PDT Gentlemen and ladies, I conduct English classes abroad, and have about 15-20 classes per week. However, recently, many of my students are cancelling last minute due to various reasons. Generally, my students pay for each class at the end of each class - so when they cancel, I don't receive any sort of compensation and I lose an hour I could otherwise be teaching someone else. What strategy could I implement to receive some sort of compensation for cancellations? I used to work for a school where If the student cancelled after 9.00am the day of classes, and no rescheduling could be established, they would pay the full amount of the lost class. I'm thinking something like that. Any suggestions? tldr; lots of students cancel I get no compensation I'm good at teaching but not at admin Wut do pic unrelated [link] [comments] |
Brand new LLC. PayPal banned me. Looking for insight? Posted: 19 Jun 2021 07:43 AM PDT So we all know paypal can be an exhausting company to work with, and recently I finally decided to make my small business official! I got my LLC, tax number, and opened a business PayPal account, and started paying for a basic BigCartel page to sell my goods. I'm coming from selling everything (newly pressed vinyl records) on my personal PayPal and bandcamp website. Needless to say, was quite excited at the prospect of finally owning my own business. I launched my first vinyl record release through my new page, and I sold roughly 150 copies the first week, and 100ish of those were on the very first 24 hours. Paypal was limiting funds right off the starting line because I have a new account with them. Moving forwards a bit, after just under 2 weeks of existing PayPal outright banned my account and froze funds for 180 days. I'm just looking for insight as to why this may have happened, because I'm new to this and paypal simply won't divulge the info, only saying I partook in "Restricted Activities". I did not sell illegal or unsettling items. Only vinyl records. I didn't attempt to move funds out of my paypal account even once. The music on the vinyl records is a metal band, but has no religious or political affiliation and writes about fantastical stories. I'm totally at a loss as to why this may have happened. Does paypal have issues with bigcartel users as a whole? Is it due to the sudden influx of so many people purchasing from me? I never had this issue with my personal paypal that I've used for years, and for the first vinyl release I did that sold roughly the same quantity just as quick. Again, just looking for some insight based on other business owners experiences, because paypal won't tell me a single thing. [link] [comments] |
Stripe subscription to act like a Payment Plan / Buy Now Pay Later RISK? or Doable? Posted: 19 Jun 2021 09:43 AM PDT Hey guys, so I'm selling a $150 product and I want to replace One-Time Payment with Payment Plan of like 4-6 monthly installments. My website is on ClickFunnels. Problem is, even though I can set up a Stripe Payment Plan on ClickFunnels, the way it works seems a bit risky to me... Which is: It actually works as a subscription that ClickFunnels just auto-cancels after the specified number of months. So technically not a payment plan but kinda works like it. Here's my concern: What if customers cancel their subscription (in this case a payment plan), before its fully paid off? Stripe will see this as subscription which means it'll allow them to cancel it. Even though they have to cover it or otherwise I'll just lose money and they would have paid a lot less than the full price. So my question is:
By the way I think its important to keep in mind, my audience is in United States and are aged over 50. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Jun 2021 10:41 AM PDT I know this probably isn't a the topic that many would wanna talk about. But I'd like to hear some thoughts on how do y'all cope with shuttering a business and calling it quits after it has ran it's course. I've ran a business for around 4 years now, it's been comfy and we had around 4 profitable years so far, but as competition starts to pop up all around us and our sales numbers drastically dropping, we might actually need to start thinking about doing the inevitable soon. It hurts to think about it frankly, since I've basically poured 4 years of hard work into this. But I'd like to hear how did y'all cope with it and how did things work out afterwards. Will finding a job be hard? As much as I'd like to think the skills are transferable, I don't really have much in my resume right now. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jun 2021 07:36 PM PDT Anyone buy franchises? Looking to start a business that's profitable but on the lower start up price scale. I thought about pods but not sure if there's really a big enough demand for it. [link] [comments] |
What to do while waiting for partner? Posted: 19 Jun 2021 07:41 AM PDT Hi everyone, I'm planning on starting a business soon but my partner is finishing up a course in early August and can only begin working on it then. We don't want to do anything too serious about the idea until both of us are working on this, but I have a number of weeks that I can spend on this. I was wondering what people would recommend I do to make sure we can hit the ground running? I've been working on market research and have been talking with our target market, but have a very low response rate (I know this common, but any recommendations there would also be greatly appreciated). Opening an art based small business Posted: 19 Jun 2021 11:12 AM PDT Where do I begin with my small business? How much money do you recommend having saved first (i'll explain the business briefly so you can get an idea of upfront cost) and what are the best small business loans? Ideally I would find a location to fit what i'd be doing but if there was renovation needed it could be done by my husband and I. We would also be able to build the necessary tables and shelves and install them ourselves. other furniture we don't build could be purchased from ikea. There would be necessary art supplies to start which could get really pricey. I would look into sellers for businesses to see if they would be cheaper. Neither of us have a background in business. I know some basics of marketing due to selling online but would be looking to outsource most things involving the business side of things This is a goal of mine in the next few years and i want to start planning and learning how to actually achieve this. any information would be greatly appreciated! Can I open a regular credit card like Chase Preferred or whatever under my business name? Posted: 19 Jun 2021 10:14 AM PDT I have a small business that generates about $1,000 per month and I recently formed an LLC for it. My overhead and costs are generally low about $250 a month and I want to build a business credit history for my business so in the future I can expand and I need a bigger line of credit. I was wondering instead of opening a "business" credit card that is specifically geared towards businesses (e.g., Chase Ink Business, Amex Business cash, Amex business platinum, Capital One Spark Business, etc.). Can I open a regular credit card (e.g., Chase Preferred, any Amex, Chase Reserved, etc.) with my business name on it? It's because I notice the points and benefits are better for the regular personal credit cards than those of the business credit cards. Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
If I run an Etsy store as a sole proprietorship, can I use my joint bank account with my spouse? Posted: 19 Jun 2021 01:12 PM PDT I'd use my own name as my business name on Etsy. I am confused about whether or not this would abide by the rules of a sole proprietorship even if it's just my business. I don't want to get in trouble. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Filing for my LLC in Pennsylvania -- how? Posted: 19 Jun 2021 07:12 AM PDT Getting my business set up, I downloaded and filled out the two forms required to register an LLC in PA ... Then I realized that I could find no information on how to actually file the paperwork. Reading through all the docs I can find reveals nothing. Searching on the internet turns up a bunch of companies that will file the paperwork for me for a fee, but the paperwork was so simple that it seems idiotic to me to pay someone just to deliver it to the state department. Can anyone point me to information on how to wrap this up? [link] [comments] |
Low Risk/Reward passive business/side hustle ideas ?. Posted: 19 Jun 2021 12:56 PM PDT I'm 24 and in the IT field. I work and go to school full time. I currently have 40k saved and I'm looking for ways to make more money. I know people will say " put it in an index fund ", I'm not interested in putting 10k in an index fund/mutual fund just to see a 1k yearly return. What I want is a low-risk/reward business model that's easy to pick up. Something where I cant invest 1-5k and make $500-1k monthly in passive income. I was originally thinking of doing Amazon FBA. After doing some research it seems that it is way more complicated than finding a desired product and selling it. From what I learned from FBA sellers, you can have a desired product but still have a failed launch due to the amount of competition, etc. It seems Amazon isn't like eBay where you can just sell products willy nilly. There's an auction company in my area that basically buys amazon trucks of new unsold items. then they auction them off. So for example, my 40Inch 4k TV retails for $700 but I won it for $300. So I was thinking of buying products from this auction and reselling them on eBay, etc with an upcharge. Does this sound like a good idea ?. If not does anyone have any business ideas that might work ?. [link] [comments] |
Animal Caretaker business: pricing? Posted: 19 Jun 2021 09:09 AM PDT Soooo multiple people (even myself) know that I price myself cheap (really cheap) for my pet business. I don't know how to price things. I don't make a lot of money due to this.
Are there other aspects I'm missing when it comes to determining my pricing? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Jun 2021 12:28 PM PDT So I'm about to get a freelance job through Upwork, and I'm trying to figure out how I would file taxes there. Besides that, I also want to grow my own small business, most likely through Etsy (if that isn't recommended let me know, I'm pondering doing direct sales through my Wie site). I'm very new to adulting so I'm very confused. So besides freelancing, would I also have to file taxes as a sole-proprietor? Or sole-owned LLC? I was reading on here, and confused about if I need to register as an LLC yet or not. Seemed like a lot of people though it was a waste until the business was much bigger. I'm starting very small, I make candles and salves, and also use Teespring to sell t-shirt designs made on demand. I have received a few sales, but I was recommended by my bank to start a Business account, too. As I promote more of my music that is gaining traction, I hope to get more sales by the end of the year. So I'm just extra confused about how I would be filing taxes next year. Hope this makes sense, any help much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Domain Name Help! Which one would be easy to remember? Posted: 19 Jun 2021 12:25 PM PDT Planning on buying my domain for my new boutique today. I'm having trouble deciding since the .com I want is $3,600 and I can't afford that yet. If anyone can give me some explanation as to why one would work better over the other, that would be great! I know for customer retention, an easy to remember website domain is helpful. TIA! These are some available choices that are within my budget (using the word dog as the first part of my boutique name since I haven't launched yet):

Single Member LLC: SEP IRA or Solo 401k? Posted: 19 Jun 2021 12:15 PM PDT I recently left my corporate job to go full-time into my single member LLC (taxed as a sole prop here in Minnesota). Looking for pros/cons of a SEP IRA vs solo 401k as a retirement plan. Right now it's just me in the business, but I hope to expand quickly and make my first hire in the next couple years. In case it matters, I have a consulting firm offering advice on how to apply artificial intelligence to supply chain. [link] [comments] |
How do you create your own Custom Packaging? Posted: 19 Jun 2021 12:07 PM PDT I need tips/costs and volume estimates to create my own Packaging with custom logos and dimensions. I need plastic anti static bags of various dimensions plus cardboard boxes of various sizes but I am unsure if I should go use Alibaba. I enquired with local printers but the volume they require discouraged me. At the minute I am looking for samples and experimentation and willing to pay but most providers who I know are only interested in volume/quantity. So can you suggest me any reliable providers who are willing to experiment/develop and then provide volume manufacturing [link] [comments] |
Receipt Scanner Recommendations Posted: 19 Jun 2021 11:50 AM PDT Hello :) I'm looking for a receipt scanner for our small home goods/carpentry business. Hoping someone could point me in the right direction direction. Here's some of the details I'm looking for: •I want it to do most of the work. Recognizing receipt dates, vendor, $ amounts, descriptions, etc. •Integrates with Quickbooks. •I'm a dork for having all the same brands. We have an Epson printer so business stuff so if Epson has a good one that'd be cool but not necessary. •Affordability would also be great. Like ideally less than $150. Thanks so much in advance! Looking for opinions on changing my business structure Posted: 19 Jun 2021 11:11 AM PDT I love teaching others about digital marketing & e-commerce. I'll be honest, I'm not an expert, but for the past 3 years I've made a ton of websites, social accounts, etc to dive in deep and learn, so I know my shit. At first, I'd talk the ears off of anyone who was interested about online business and became known as the go to for friends or family who wanted to launch a site, business, or product and needed advice about social, website, & setup (basically early online business stuff). Now don't get me wrong, I love discussing this stuff for fun, but it becomes work really fast especially when people begin to feel entitled to my advice & time. I know I can help others and it's enjoyable work, so I started working on a business venture at the start of the year for this purpose. Here's the thing, I started with the idea of being a content creator / social media manager. At first I wanted to actually create content for others and manage their platforms. In the first 3 weeks of launching an IG account with consistent posting, I had 4 inquiries and 2 meetings. This really shocked me! I was expecting interest in month 4-6, as I started from scratch and planned on just building an audience before launching. I'm happy that people have been highly engaged & shown interest, but I've realized that I truly would not be happy providing this service.
I love making content so I figured digital products would be the way to go. I find myself repeating some of the same things over and over through the years as advice for beginners. It'd definitely be much more helpful in a convenient article or video to be saved or shared. Even if it's a slower climb to a steady income than providing services, I don't mind. I want to build something sustainable, that helps others without sacrificing all of my time in meetings and 1 on 1s with clients. Here are the pros: 1. Scalable- digital products can last forever and can easily be updated for relevance 2. Pricing- it's much easier to invest $100/mo than $1000/mo when you're a small business or new entrepreneur 3. No consultations or meetings. Of course there will be customer service, but it won't take an hour of face to face time with a stranger (more time to focus on producing valuable content) 4. Metrics- non-issue with digital products I had surgery and was unable to post for about 3 weeks. Around this time I also decided to take a week or 2 to focus on the site and really consider if these services would be something I enjoyed or would make me miserable. Someone tried to hack my account & Instagram says I'm temporarily locked out, but I guess I don't mind as I have a backup account with my business name (no posts or following again sadly), this might be a great opportunity to refocus my offering and apply some new tactics I learned with my first account. I've been writing articles for the blog, and have a plan to utilize YouTube to make super simple content that aligns with each post. I have tons of free value that I can giveaway & hope to bring in some income from visitors once the site has some time to gain traction with SEO. So far I've launched the landing page for when we are live for the public and am working on adding the blog to it with a few articles by 7/1. With the video content I am hoping to monetize through YouTube and/or provide more in depth versions of stuff through courses, (like Skillshare), etc. Through low cost & accessible content for my following like: - In depth articles for beginners - Yt channel with supporting content for blog - Courses/digital products that go in depth and provide more personalized actionable advice - consultations (for advice/ guidance: the only service I may be interested in providing) I hope to make an income through accessible content that provides actionable advice for newbs on social media with businesses. Sorry if this was all over the place, but I'd love to hear your opinions, especially with large players in this industry like sprout social blog or Neil Patel. My approach is based on putting the power into the hands of the business owner to navigate social when a high budget for marketing is not yet available. [link] [comments] |
Single-Member LLC; Schedule C; Can I claim partial car payment as expense without Section 179? Posted: 19 Jun 2021 10:51 AM PDT Trying to keep this as simple as possible before I go see a CPA. If I am doing half of my truck usage to drop off/deliver packages, can I deduct a % of my monthly payment as a simple expense on my books and call it a day? I am aware I can claim miles, but can you also claim payments without a formal designation? Bonus Question: Do I HAVE to do a Section 179 to help my personal business assist in a down-payment on a new truck that will be split 50/50 personal/business? Looking for opinions. This will funnel up to a CPA eventually. Want some foreknowledge. Thanks [link] [comments] |
I’ve become a huge fan of these tights from a brand called Leohex. Posted: 19 Jun 2021 10:22 AM PDT Really love the look, fit, feel, and quality of their products, and would like to produce something real similar. I have no idea where to begin as I don't really understand the manufacturing/production side of things. I've reached out to a few Alibaba companies but I'm fairly certain they will try to produce something based on pictures alone and it won't come out the way I want it to. Does anybody have any input/advice on this? [link] [comments] |
Llc minority shareholder buyout Posted: 19 Jun 2021 10:22 AM PDT We own a third of a small business llc. We have made it through Covid and business is starting back up. We offer a very niche service in renting our equipment for events and productions. Before Covid we started having issues with the two other members and filed a cease and desist. We entered into a buyout resolution which the other two parties refused and have not countered. The other two parties are in breech of the LLc in various terms and have effectively iced us out. No communication, no good faith, ect. What options do I have to force a buyout at fair market value? Llc is in WA. State. TIA [link] [comments] |
Order fulfillment software suggestions Posted: 19 Jun 2021 09:08 AM PDT Hello, I've recently started my own 3pl/prep center and I'm starting to get leads for fulfillment. I've used shippo for my own Shopify store and wanted to find software similar but that allows multiple Shopify stores. I've done some looking around and saw that ship monk and ship bob both offer software for order fulfillment. Has anyone got experience with using their software? I could really use some insight on this to see if its right for me. Thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |
