Any luck removing false Google reviews?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 02:58 AM PDT

I'm a solo attorney that has had all positive 5 star reviews until today. Immediately after a particularly heated negotiation with an insane opposing cpunsel a one star review appeared on my Google reviews under a name of somebody I have never had contact with. I have my suspicions about what may have happened. Anybody had any luck getting similar reviews removed?

What software does most other small business find to be most useful?

When it comes to Finance, Customer Relations, Invoices, Contracts, Contacts, Time Management etc...

I find myself using a variety of different software. What does everyone else use? Which is most useful in your daily activities?

How to get business partners understanding the complexity of software?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 12:59 AM PDT

I've been working with a couple of business partners on a healthcare service. We require a lot of software to actually get everything working, ranging from the customer facing website, to a booking system, CRM, with plenty of integrations between them.

My business partners are not really used to working with software developers at all. Whereas I've worked in software for about 15 years now with stakeholders who most often understand software concepts and SDLC.

Now, what's the best way of getting my business partners to understand the complexities of software development, specifically around the whole fixed time thing and why giving time estimates just doesn't work.

I'm thinking maybe going over the concepts and trinity of scope, cost and time and the impact to quality?

Any recommended books I can pass on to them?

    Under duress from copycat

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 12:05 PM PDT

I started an ecommerce company 3 years ago and it took off pretty well by industry standards and grew year-on-year.

I know competition is natural and I have seen quite a few copycat stores popping up in the past years, but there is one that is really intense and giving me pretty bad anxiety.

2 years ago I let go of an employee (let's call him E) who was frequently no-show and underperforming. He was only with the company a couple months. He called in sick twice a week or took off from work in the middle of the day (argument with wife, relative passed away, MIL in the hospital etc), leaving his team crippled. Just to be clear, none of his reasons were authentic.

A few days after he left, he set up an identical ecommerce store and listed ALL products we had, copyedited our content, naming convention, and applied our processes down to the style our team spoke to customers with. He had access to all our information including suppliers.

I had spent a year working day and night, without rest, on the style of our product offerings, content (all painstakingly written by me), and coming up with the operational processes, only to be copied wholesale overnight.

E spent a lot of time following over ten thousand of our followers on a specific platform to steal the customers, even until today.

Shaken but undaunted, my team spent the next 2 years bettering the brand, staying ahead of competition, and it did pay off as we are pretty renowned locally now.

However, E is always hot on our tail. The moment we introduce something new (a product, a revamped site, a new platform etc), he will do the same in a few days.

It's a small industry. With other competitors, they develop their own style and there is an obvious difference in brand identity. E has made it a point however, for revenge sake, to copy as closely as possible. Any visitor would think the two companies are identical. E's main goal, I would guess, is to push us out of the industry.

I write this post today because I just found out E had just tied up with two of our partners and is now listing their identical products on a major platform we are on.

It's been years. I am drained and I feel like all my creative efforts are pointless because this guy will copy it in a day or two.

I have had nightmares of my company collapsing, being pushed out by this guy, and many anxiety-fueled sleepness nights.

I know competition is good but at this point it feels so toxic.

Fellow entrepreneurs, please give me some advice.

    Help with selling on Bonanza

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 02:35 AM PDT

Hi there, I have a little problem with selling on bonanza. Honestly I tried to search someone who has the same problem but I couldn't find that and I try here to finde somebody who could help me :)

The problem: I registered myself yesterday as a seller on bonanza and somebody tried to buy something from me. But the problem is that I haven't got a notification that even somebody put my item in their shopping cart. The person also couldn't type their address or pick with what they want to pay. I put the notification on so if somebody in the Theorie did this I can see that but it doesn't work.

I hope you understand my struggle and could help me

    Thank you so much

Balancing a small business & a full-time job in the US

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 09:37 PM PDT

Hey :) I have a few questions for the folks who are in the US, have a full-time job AND a successful business that they run. 1) In my experience working in the US when you are full-time, the employer feels entitled to ALL of your time: 60 hours weeks, working the weekend to catch up, responding to boss's emails at 10pm or 6am. Also, in my experience, I 'lost points' when people (especially leadership) found out that I have a side gig.

How, with a full-time job, you find hours to put into your own business to keep it going? Also, do you keep it a secret from your employer so you are perceived as 'loyal' or 'fully dedicated'?

    Thank you!

    Automated SMS After Missed Call

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 08:44 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I'm looking for something that will send an automated text message when I miss a call. Grasshopper does this, but I don't want to port my number to their service because I'd still like to answer calls from my office line. Also, I'd like the automated text to come from the same landline number. Zipwhip can do texts this way, but not automated to missed calls, from my knowledge. The only thing I can think of is forwarding missed calls to a Grasshopper number, but then the automated message will be from a different phone number...

Tl;dr looking for a way to send automated text messages from my office line when I miss a call

    Thanks!

    Successful serial entrepreneurs

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 05:23 PM PDT

It seems like they delegate and outsource a lot of the work to their trusted people. The entrepreneur deal with strategy, issues, and making the business excel. If things don't pan out they quickly pull the ripcord and try a different business. It is a matter of roi, risk, opportunity, strategy, and execution to them

Should entrepreneurs try to develop their skills to get to this mentality?

How would one go about selling a business that’s a sole proprietorship and based on my personal skills?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 07:59 PM PDT

I'm actually just starting up and nowhere near needing to do this but part of writing my business plan includes defining an exit strategy.

My business is carbon fiber repair of bicycles. My ability to get work and referrals is based a lot on my experience, my reputation and my education as an engineer. I imagine that I won't want to do this forever but if I get to the point of having a well known business it would be great to be able to sell it and let someone else take the reins.

The work isn't super hard but it is pretty specialized so it's likely I'd have to train someone else to do it. But, it seems nearly impossible to find someone to take on to train who would also have the means to buy.

I fully accept I might be looking at this all wrong. I just want to be ready for the day if it ever comes.

What do you use for fleet management?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 03:06 PM PDT

We have iPads on all of our vans (about 15) and I've been using Life360 the past few years and only paying about $6/mo for all of our vehicles. They have now phased out their web portal and their tracking doesn't seem to be as accurate anymore.

The most important part of a GPS system for me is the length of location history. Thanks!

Buying an operating a small business, or starting one yourself?

Not knowledgeable about this (I've started a dropshipping one and am operating it), but was curious for a friend.

This friend will be a first time business owner - what pros and cons are there to buying and then running the small business vs. starting one from scratch?

Choosing credit card for freelance work

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 03:19 PM PDT

I freelance in the film industry and want to open an account to help with tracking my expenses. I'll be applying through my business that I just filed for. My expenses aren't massive and aren't specific to travel, office supplies, or anything like that. Mostly a lot of small miscellaneous expendable items, some larger equipment purchases, food, and some travel.

I'm thinking of applying for BOA's Customized Cash Rewards. Any reason I should go for something else?

How much to budget for rent of living space/home office as owner of a small business with no employees?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 08:39 AM PDT

Over the last 3 years I've lived with roommates to keep costs as low as possible ($790 a month). I built a Murphy bed that has a Murphy desk on it so each day I transform my bedroom into my home office. During this period I completed two years of grad school and received my degree, left my old job to start my own business and more than doubled my income, saved up $32k and am ready to pay off my student loans, and I'm on track to net around $150k this year. I have $21k in personal savings as an emergency fund, and I keep at least 3 months of expenses in my business checking as my "0".

I'm looking for a new apartment and I'm trying to figure out how much to spend. I like to keep costs as low as possible, but it's been challenging to run a business from home while living with roommates and not having a dedicated work space. I'm structured as an s-corp and pay myself a 60k a year salary and pay out the rest in distributions. Its my first year operating in this way.

In budgeting for a new place, I've been basing it off of a 100k salary which is in between my salary and projected net business income. So, being conservative, 25% of 100k take home ($6,266 a month) would be $1566 a month, so I'm looking at apartments around 1600. Does this line of thinking make sense?

The goal is this would be the last place I rent while saving up to buy a place of my own.
