PPP Loans. The joke that keeps on giving

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 01:02 PM PDT

Client had their $8.5M loan forgiven. Today they informed me that the sole owner is taking a $1.5M bonus and $3M Dividend. Why not just pay yourself the additional $4M while you're at it?

    Do y’all executive/seniors/managers take breaks ?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 11:30 AM PDT

I mean like actual vacations where you leave all the work bullshit behind. Asking because literally every-time I see someone from my the executive team go on vacation it's more like a stay-cation and they still work lmao. I don't even wanna move up at this point because travel means a lot to me. Just wondering

Put in my 2 weeks in PA firm, they want me to leave early lol

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 01:16 PM PDT

I had PTO scheduled for 2 weeks in July after the firm's week off for July 4th. HR guy called me and said it doesn't make sense for me to leave after vacation so here I go... just say u don't wanna pay me during PTO lol. Kinda awkward cuz it seems like I'm getting pushed out the door.

Welp I lasted less than a year and kinda feel like a failure but at least I won't wonder what if I had gone into public. good luck to all youse guys.

Are there Accountants that do nothing all day?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 10:11 AM PDT

Thought I'd change it up a bit. I miss my first company I started my Accounting career for. I had about 5-6 hours of work a week to do.

Is there any Accountants out there that low key have no work to do? What industry and role are you in?

For professionals that code their hourly time in multiples of 0.10

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 01:16 PM PDT

Are you really tracking your time to 6 minute intervals, or do you just code it this way to look more legit?

Deloitte settles Partner age discrimination case

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 04:24 AM PDT

It's official - Deloitte Australia has settled it's age discrimination lawsuit with Colin Brown.

Quick summary: Colin Brown is a Deloitte Australia partner that sued the firm for age discrimination after being allegedly directed to leave the partnership because he had turned 62. Brown was seeking damages of more than $3 million over claims Deloitte Australia illegally tried to force him out of the lucrative partnership. Deloitte settled the lawsuit this past week https://www.afr.com/companies/professional-services/deloitte-settles-partner-age-discrimination-case-for-millions-20210624-p583vs

    Anyone have thoughts on this?

Previous Reddit thread debating this topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/Accounting/comments/i4m5e9/deloitte_partner_sues_to_remove_mandatory/

There were some good points in the previous Reddit thread about this topic. It's personally hard for me to reconcile this partner's objection to the partner retirement age when he has been a beneficiary of this policy:

    • He was only able to achieve entrance into the partnership because partners were rotated out. If no one leaves = no places for new partners = no partnership places
    • Getting a higher equity payout each year than would otherwise be the case, since having partners regularly leave the partnership = less dilution of the profit distribution

It also brings into question how the Big 4 firms could be affected by this case. It's clear that the courts took a very dim view of the firm allegedly having a mandatory retirement age for partners, so will the Big 4 all remove this requirement (I think that some already have)? How will firms incentivize graduates to join Big 4 if the partner track becomes a myth? I can't see why Senior Managers and Directors will stay if the partnership track becomes even harder than it is; I don't think that everything they give up for work-life balance would still be worth it, so the firms could see some brain-drain as their star performers go elsewhere.

Oh no the auditors are in....

First time for me but been on the other side.

At planning, I told them that there are no stupid questions; anything that requires explanation, just let me know.

    Not even lunchtiime, regretting that.

Bassplayerdad (India) Pty ltd accounts apparently have an notation INR which they don't understand.

Can I get copies of these invoices ?

They have full access to all the documents in the cloud.

Going to be a long week

Mental health disorder and Big 4 - advice please.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 10:56 AM PDT

I suffer from Bipolar I Depression. I have not disclosed this to my firm. Should I? Had anyone ever disclosed their disability and if so is it helpful?

Tax staff for 2 years getting promoted to senior, but I'm overworked and stressed. Not sure how much longer I can stick it out.

My medication is strong which takes a toll on my mind, and makes me tired sometimes. I can't stop taking them.

    Planning PA exit

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 01:19 PM PDT

Officially hit my burnt out "I've had it" moment with public accounting. Been in the industry for a little over 5 years, have my CPA and currently a senior. Any tips or advice for exit opportunities/throwing a resume together? I have experience in both A&A and tax, though I've strictly been tax for the last 2 years. I'm rather young though for the experience I have under my belt so I'm not too concerned about leaving too late, it's more or less the nerves from making the jump. I've had some recruiters casually reach out to me on some opportunities that seem rather plausible but also not sure what would be a reasonable request for pay without being too outrageously high to start.

Long story short, I can't stand the culture at the firm and for the pay it's not at all worth it for the hours and detriment towards mental and physical health. Not to mention there's been a high turnover in the past year.

Any little tips would help on making the next step!

Robots won't replace us simply because they are more expensive (right now) to buy/upgrade/modify and harder to replace than us. Agree?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 09:30 AM PDT

Just have this crude notion on my mind as to why we are still high (or even, more than ever) on demand in the market.

People outside accounting (even including those in IT) will never see the reason why because they think accounting is too easy and procedural. Only employers know how simplistic this prejudice is.

Audit Elective Exam CPA June 2021

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:22 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I just completed CPA Audit and Assurance elective exam and I am checking to see how y'all performed. The first case was kind of a rush for me. I didn't conclude on my RMM and I was shocked at the Taxable income question. The second case has a lot of AOs and I barely finished. I didn't have time to review any of my answers.

    How was it for you?

    Studying for the CPA Exam

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:16 PM PDT

I am currently a senior at a four year university, and long story short I chose to major in accounting to appease my parents. For the past couple of years I never wanted to take the CPA exam, so I just breezed through my classes. I did the work to pass rather than try to retain anything. Now I feel like I would be disappointed in myself if I don't get my CPA license...with that being said, I was wondering what resources you would recommend for someone who knows ABSOLUTELY nothing... all I can tell you is assets= liabilities+ stockholder's equity...
