What is the next hot sector in sales? Sales and Selling

What is the next hot sector in sales?

Which industry will be the next medical device or SaaS type industry? The criteria for that is the industry is in early stages of acceptance and potentially very lucrative for a salesperson.

    So burnt out

    Posted: 10 May 2021 11:22 AM PDT

After 11 years working for the same company- I'm about done. In fact- I want out of sales completely.

Our quality has hit the shitter, my manager is unqualified with no leadership skills. The silo I work in is dying, and they chopped the heck of our commissions. Customers leaving in droves.

Not looking for advice- just venting on a crappy Monday.

Transitioning from Life Insurance to Medical Device Sales?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 10:18 AM PDT

So, my main reasoning for inquiring about the above topic, is that I'm 25 and honestly have many opportunities currently laid out for me. I just don't know which one to pursue/which one poses greater reward long term. So I've been selling life insurance (final expense) as an independent broker for a while, and be quite frank I'm very good at it. Cold door knocking in the hood (usually), overcoming the multiple objections, then selling them something none tangible that relates to their death...it wasn't easy at first, but I became conditioned and adapted very quickly.

I now have realized, after talking to individuals in the sales space outside of insurance, that maybe insurance isn't the way to go for me long term? I'm getting into medicare with the intent being that I can build a sweet passive income over time, BUT, if there's an industry out there a bit more sustainable than insurance, that can provide a higher income NOW as opposed to later, I'm down. Thing is I know little to nothing about the industries outside of insurance. After some research, an application, and a interview coming soon, Ive realized medical device sales might be the route to go here.

I've heard more B2B knowledge is much more valuable here though? Which I have zero. How would you say insurance sales compares to medical device sales? I'm sure there are many transferable skills here. Is my current notion of the B2B aspect accurate? Any insight at all would be greatly appreciated.

Quitting my job as a financial advisor

    Posted: 09 May 2021 01:36 PM PDT

I have worked as a financial advisor selling life insurance for 2.5 years. I am at a point in my life where I want to move on from a sales job and want to get a job that is 9-5 and salaried.

I am trying to research jobs that I can transition to from my current employment. Has anyone had any experience to a situation similar to mine? I don't hate my managers at all, I just have been struggling since COVID and desperately need a change.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Top performing inbound SDs, how do you overachieve your quota at 200+%? What's your secret?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 08:38 AM PDT

I just started at a new inbound SD role selling HR, recruitment, learning and development solutions. (3 months in). As it is I'm working my ass off and struggling to hit my quota. I went 80% and 94% in my first 2 months. And here I am seeing my peers smashing their quota. Any tops performers here care to share some pointers?

Edit - I'm measured on ops created, meetings completed by AEs and bumped oops for the SDs

Ever use an offer from one company as leverage to get an offer from another more desirable company?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 11:07 AM PDT

Just out of curiosity. I've received a generous offer from a company that is a major player in their space in terms of their product offering, but they've recently gone through a rebranding and restructuring and are trying to gain traction with their new brand.

I sent the offer to a competitor that's more like a dream company, well established, rapidly growing, and beloved by their employees. Their starting OTE is $20k less, however they also offer equity which the other company does not, and a much larger percent of their MM AEs hit goal and pclub consistently.

I'm currently nearing the end of the interview process and they've agreed to expedite the process and the offer/start date should they choose to move forward with my candidacy.

Anyone been in a similar situation before?

If so, how'd it play out?

    Barebones Sales Setup

    Posted: 10 May 2021 05:46 AM PDT

    Could anyone help me here?

What's a good barebones setup for doing business development for my own marketing business?

I'm just a student right now so not much budget but I'm looking to actively gain experience in sales to see if I enjoy it.

    Making money in insurance?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 09:03 AM PDT

I've been in the insurance industry for 2 years now and have been unable to break $50,000. I've been on the property and casualty side of things for that time so I haven't ever been on the life insurance side.

Last week I started a new job in a call center type of startup and they have "warm" leads and out of 300+ calls a day and maybe 15 quotes, I'll write one policy? Even with that one policy, it's a baby $300 premium therefore I'm getting absolutely nothing on it. This seems low, no?

Does anyone have experience in life insurance who has been on the p and c side of things?

    Transitioning from ADP to SaaS

    Posted: 10 May 2021 08:30 AM PDT

So I'll give a brief overview of my background: I'm 26 years old and located in Memphis, TN. Started as a Management Trainee out of college with Cintas. Once I completed the program, I transitioned to a Sales Rep role on the facility service side. After grinding it out for a year, I ended up moving over to ADP in the small business space.

I have been in this role for 10 months now and things are going well. I have exceeded quota every month except for one, and I have built some solid momentum. However, my long term goal has always been to get into software sales. Being in Memphis, and not in a position to relocate currently, it can be hard to find software sales roles in the area. However, there are a few local openings, and I have noticed a steady increase in remote opportunities, especially since the pandemic began. I would have no problem sticking around for another year or so at ADP. The issue I have is that I feel like I would still have to start as an SDR regardless once I transition to SaaS. So in my eyes I might as well make the transition now. I just have a few questions that this community might could help me with.

Is it too soon to make the switch to another company? This would put me at 3 different companies in 3 years, and I do not want that to reflect poorly on my resume.

Is it possible to land an AE role being that I have 2 years experience in outside sales? Seems like the consensus is that you usually need actual SaaS experience to be an AE.

Would it be better to join a startup (there are a lot of openings on angel.co), or should I try to find a more established company?

Is there anything else I should know about making this transition?

This community has already had a huge impact on my career, and I'm hoping to get more advice on what to do next. Thanks in advance!

Switch from sales engineer to sales

    Posted: 10 May 2021 05:18 AM PDT

I currently work as a sales engineer for a SaaS (software as a service) vendor. I am highly tempted to move into sales. I feel I have a good understanding of the sales process. Here is my question. How do I position myself to look attractive to employers? Especially given that I am transitioning from one role to another.

Questions on Challenger Sales: Stages, Choreography, and Profiles

    Posted: 09 May 2021 11:59 PM PDT

Long time Redditor, first time in this sub but I'm impressed by the resources available here.

I've been working with Stragegic Selling and Solution Selling for a few years. The company I'm working for now is on Challenger Selling.

I'm definitely not a Challenger profile, more of a Hard-Worker or Relationship builder. Moreover, I find that the 5 stages and sales choreography isn't as clear and laid out as the sales stages in Strategic Selling or Solution selling.

I need your help and advice:

    1. For those of you who do Challenger Selling, what do your sales stages look like?

    2. Do you go through the 6 points of the Sales Choreography in one meeting or several? How do you break these down?

    3. If I don't fall under a Challenger profile, can I still use this sales framework?

I've read the Challenger Sale and I'm having trouble making this work for myself. Thanks in advance!

Path of a Sales VP with equity?

Is there a path that ambitious salespeople take to get to become a VP with equity, cash out and do it all over again somewhere else?

Why is everyone saying not to work on the weekend?

    Posted: 09 May 2021 05:09 PM PDT

I'm behind at work at a new job. I work off the clock on the weekend to catch up. My manager said it takes me longer to complete tasks. If I'm having issues then why would I not boost my performance rather than get fired??

Advice for increasing dials and improving performance?

    Posted: 09 May 2021 10:41 PM PDT

Wondering what has worked for others in the past. I'm 90 days in. I have 3 different people I'm assisting and like 2 or 3 scripts for them. So switching between them has been pretty difficult. Most times I don't even get an answer.

I think I have a better idea of what I want to say. But a lot of times I will even drink before calling lol. My manager said to call one type of lead at a time and organizing them that way made it easier for me.

I can't tell if the drinking is hurting or helping. And I'm not sure what time of day is best.
