How to negotiate with artists to commission artwork on a product? Posted: 30 May 2021 07:12 PM PDT Hey r/startups, I've attempted to hire an artist in the past to work on artwork for a product I've created with less than stellar outcomes. It usually ends with the artist being very emotional and unwilling to give a number they're willing to work for and me being called a capitalist pig. I'm currently working on a minimalist luxury office furniture company, as part of the minimalist design I include a large area of polished metals to be engraved with artwork from the commissioned artist. I intend to offer the artist an initial lump sum as well as a continued percentage of the profit from selling the product with their work on it. How would you word or proposition this to artists? Where would you post this job? [link] [comments] |
What’s the best way to raise money for something like this? Posted: 30 May 2021 08:08 PM PDT What's the best way to raise some money to grow an already established business? I own a local business (regular proven blue collar business nothing new and uncertain) that is already established and profitable and I really just need to dump more money into it in the marketing department to grow. We know our numbers and we know x amount of dollars in is always going to equal x amount of dollars in increased revenue so it's just about dumping more money into it in this department. What's the best way to start raising money or finding an investor for a business like this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 May 2021 10:52 AM PDT We skipped seed funding for our startup and grew to $450,000 pa top line revenues with a high growth trajectory. All of the growth was organic through customer referrals and we planned to finally raise a round (Seed? Bridge? Series A?) so that we can expand to more cities. The major challenge is that we are in Canada and investors are extremely frugal. We got a term sheet from one investor which values us at $1 million and they want to fund us $100k and give us a loan of $100k for 10% equity. Most VCs in Silicon Valley think even $2m investment is too low for enterprise startups in general, however situation in Canada is different. There is almost not much we can do with $100k. It might even make things worse as we have a loan and $100k. What do founders (and VCs ) think in general about valuation of a startup with consistent growth rate for 24 months & close to half million in revenues? We have self funded everything so far from tech to employing but need extra $ to expand to other cities in Canada and US Edit: More info Startup is Ecommerce + logistics. Our closest competitor is Amazon FBA. CAC to LTV is around 1:3 all organic growth. Defensible: as our data is used to predict where/when to warehouse. [link] [comments] |
How much does a Master's degree matters compared to a Bachelors in this environments? Posted: 30 May 2021 05:50 AM PDT I'm studying a Bachelor's in marketing but I think this question can apply anywhere... I've always wanted to work in startups but I don't know what would it really take to enter the area. In my country Startups to be considered so need to fulfill at least one of 3 points to prove they are innovative, which one of those is having at least 2/3 of employees with a Master or 1/3 with phd. So now I'm doubting if I should try to find jobs immediately or take a Master before (Would have no problems to take the master but my dad isn't really super happy of me studying instead of working so there is also that lol) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 May 2021 05:21 AM PDT My wife and I are launching a skincare company. We have our containers and now need a quality label printer. We'd prefer not to outsource and do it ourselves, but don't want to spend thousands of dollars for some unnecessary commercial option that's more than what we need to get started. Based on our research, we'll need something that's 300 DPI as the label content is relatively small. Does anyone have any experience with this and able to make some recommendations? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
