    Left turn accident. Insurance

    Left turn accident. Insurance

    Left turn accident.

    Posted: 11 May 2021 01:02 AM PDT

I entered a intersection heading east to make a left turn north after waiting for traffic, the light turns yellow and all traffic heading west towards me slows down and a second before the light turns red I slowly make my make my turn as I see I have plenty of room.

In the middle of my turn a truck dramatically speeds up and might have barley made the yellow crossing the intersection line.

The truck hits my rear right passenger door a half second before the traffic from the north and south get a green light.

The driver of the truck and several witnesses admit that it was the trucks fault. Witness that was driving besides the truck stated that as he and other drivers were slowing down the truck driver sped up to 50-60mph in a 35 mph zone and might have cross when it was red or very late yellow light.

I'm aware that the left hand driver is almost always at fault. But after talking to a lawyer and the insurance company it sounds I might have a good case.

What do you guys think? Is it 50/50? Or 60/40?

    I'm in California

    Thanks

Adjuster refuses to respond to calls/texts for over a month

    Posted: 10 May 2021 12:37 PM PDT

First off I'll introduce myself. I am a United States sailor stationed in San Diego with a wife and a child. On apr 8th my wife was rear ended in an accident on the parking lot AFTER she finished doing postmates. So we filed the claim as we were supposed to and they called my wife to get her side of the story. after two weeks of not hearing back from a adjuster or anyone for that matter i finally got through to an adjuster and I was finally told that my wife had told them under stress that she was doing post mates during the accident and that coverage was under review because of that. So I told what really happened and we got statements along with documentation from her app to prove that she was not doing postmates during the accident (she had finished her last delivery a hour prior to the accident) and after they confirmed they received it and the case was under review they keep making false promises to call me back it's been weeks now and they are not answering my calls or texts and we really need this car to be fixed I don't know why as a customer who pays on time every month I am being treated in this manner I wish they would be more professional about this and I need help.

Policy holder and auto loan under different names. What happens after accident?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 03:58 AM PDT

My partner is a main person driving my car and the insurance policy is under his name. The car loan is under my name as I pay all the bills in the household and I'm listed as a additional driver as I drive it maybe once a month. I just got in a accident and the car maybe a total loss. Will this be a problem for my claim? I live in California which allows it but not sure what I might have to deal with.

    Voluntary Accident Insurance

    Posted: 11 May 2021 03:23 AM PDT

I live in Texas. My employer is changing insurance companies in June. I have an injury that happened back in December of last year and have been putting off knee surgery. My question is, will accident insurance cover my upcoming surgery? I'm pretty pissed I have to start all over with a deductible. I didn't even know that a company could do that!

Life Insurance Contestability Period Appeal help?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 07:29 PM PDT

So my dad increased his life insurance through work (4x salary) on 12/18/2018 and ended up taking his life 12/18/2020. The life insurance denied the claim based on the contestability period starting over when he made those changes in 2018.

Is there any way to appeal this denial? Do I have any ground to appeal?

It's literally 2 years to the day. Like if he died a few hours later it would be Dec 19th. I know this is crazy, but could the leap year in 2020 factor in? I might be grasping at straws with that one but thought I'd ask.

Edit: This is in Houston, Texas.

    Totaled 2 cars

    Posted: 10 May 2021 05:27 PM PDT

Long story short... I totaled two cars that I was financing within a period of less than 60 days. I have progressive, currently waiting on my claims agent to let me know the payout (if they will even pay it out). This most recent accident was "at fault", first one was not. Age is mid 20s, live in south Florida. Any advice on what to expect from this situation? Is there a greater chance that I will get dropped from the company?

How does replacement cost work for rare personal belongings?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 09:03 PM PDT

Alright so after some research, I could right a 5 paragraph essay on the differences between replacement cost and actual value or whatever. I know for a fact that my family has coverage for replacement cost on both the house and belongings that were recently destroyed in a house fire. I do not own the house personally, but I did own a nice clothing collection that pretty much took all my free time and money, which is ruined beyond repair for the most part. None of these clothing items are the sort of thing that you can just buy again. Most of them are kind of a one time thing, where another one in the same size and style will likely not show up for sale online in the next 10 years. So obviously, I cannot replace these items technically. I read a few times in my research that they are willing to cover for an item of similar function and quality, but that seems like it would apply to something like a specific TV model that one might lose in a fire rather than a rare clothing piece. How exactly can I replace the item, so as to receive that second depreciation value payment after replacement?

For one, I figured I could find a new item of clothing online that is same brand/same material/same general item(hoodie, t-shirt, polo shirt) and just purchase that? However, with the value of designer clothing being all over the place, how likely is insurance to trust that I am not making a huge profit in the value of clothes?

Another solution I guess would be to show receipts from purchasing each item. This one seems the most safe with insurance, but the first option is obviously favorable because I wont have an empty closet.

I assume my case is similar to how people get coverage for stuff like antique furniture or watches and I hope someone has been in at least somewhat of a similar situation so they could answer my question. Also, I am sure it depends on my insurance, but I guess I am just asking generally how it works, since I am not the main member of my family who has been in contact with our adjuster throughout the whole situation.

Other drivers insurance saying there is a coverage issue

    Posted: 10 May 2021 04:14 PM PDT

    Hello,

Got in an accident on Friday where a senior citizen ran the red light and slammed into my car. There was a witness and he admitted fault on scene. He also must have admitted fault to his insurance company, Geico, as they gave me a call shortly after to create a claim and told me they took full liability.

Now today, Monday I get a call from Geico saying the driver who hit me has a coverage issue. They would not tell me what the issue was - Basically just said it should hopefully be resolved by tomorrow and if not then I would obviously have to go through my own insurance. Anybody have any idea what this could be? I just find it strange they told me they took full liability then after the weekend completely rescinded that. I have a claim number from GEICO but still do not have an adjuster - am about ready to just take the hit on the deductible and file with my own.

    Total Loss Valuation, Possible Malfeasance?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 03:54 PM PDT

Hi. I am insured by an insurance company in Washington State and I was involved in a rear end 3 car accident in early April. I am 100% not at fault and was stopped when hit. However, my car is totaled. I don't know if providing specifics is a good idea so I will stay vague.

My car is a rare Japanese sports coupe, with a fairly low mileage for it's year. It is between 30-35 years old. I waited several months to find one with around 100,000 miles and had to travel around 600 miles to buy it. I bought it 6 days before I was hit in a private party sale and the car was in excellent condition, even for semi low mileage. I drove it home with no issues and was after I returned home.

My adjuster told me their valuation are based on dealer prices, and not private party value. There are MAYBE 20-25 or so of these cars for sale right now across the entire US at dealerships, with probably 5 or so being within 10,000 miles of the car I purchased. The average listing price is around $13,000-$14,000.

However, my insurance company only wants to offer $7,500 or so. I have provided them with almost 15 examples of cars like mine for sale, +/-50k miles, and they have rejected every single one of them for use in the valuation.

On one occasion, they told me two such cars (+/-25k miles of mine) were ineligible because they were being restored by the dealers (two classic car lots). I called both of the lots and both confirmed to me that no restoration had been done and both were original miles. This seems to be a blatant lie on their part.

They rejected several more because they were marked as "dealer new", compared to my car which was marked as "average". When I later asked what the condition of the cars in my valuation were, I told they were all marked as "dealer new", but that I was getting a negative adjustment because my car is marked as "average". When I pressed further, the adjuster told me the vehicles in the valuation (totaling $7,500) were all 150k+ miles. So they were using "dealer new" high mileage cars in the valuation, but refused to use comparable mileage cars because they didn't match the same condition as my car. These seem like blatant contradictions.

I feel like I'm being fucked with. I've only been able to correspond with them over phone and I am not sure what my options are. They kept telling me "well... we can't control what a dealer lists a car at" as an excuse for why they couldn't use more similar cars to mine (that were more accurately valued at $13K+). I'm not sure what to do at this point but I'm not satisfied with the number they are giving me and they seem unwilling to move very much.

Side question: is there any way I can get out of this situation without the car's title being declared salvage? the independent adjuster who came to look at my car said that was a possibility even with it being totaled.

How will homeowners insurance company verify if the repairs completed was based on the scope of work they provided?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 10:49 PM PDT

I recently had frozen pipes and flooded my house. Fast forward, my contractor is almost done with the repairs. How will my homeowners insurance verify if I followed their scope of work? Do they ask for photos of completed repairs? Or copies of invoices? Send back the adjuster to inspect? Etc. Currently living in Texas btw.

(x-post from legaladvice) AZ - Trying to sort out the next steps with damage to my condo + liable party

    Posted: 10 May 2021 01:53 PM PDT

I'll break this down where it stands now.

    1) Condo bathroom ceiling has water damager due to upstairs neighbor. Upstairs neighbor has taken (over text) responsibility.

EDIT: The damage was caused by an improper washer/dryer removal in their unit. Owner had plumber come out to fix it and no further issues have occurred since.

How should I go about verifying it got fixed? What do I need from the owner?

    2) I have an estimate from a water damager restoration company for the damage - roughly 2.5K.

    3) Owner hasn't sent anyone to get their own estimate yet. Owner is planning on having a plumber or contractor come out but hasn't told me then.

I do not feel that is acceptable but I haven't said anything about it until Owner tells me their definitive plan. I don't feel an estimate form a contractor/plumber is adequate considering the potential damage and I have doubts about their professional expertise in the manner. I do not see a plumber as being able to give me an accurate drywall repair estimate. I also don't see a contractor as having the knowledge on identifying and fixing all sources of potential water damage. I could be wrong.

    3) Owner hasn't given me insurance information when asked. Owner doesn't understand why I need it. Owner's insurance agent is back in the office on Wednesday to look over the HOA's CCR. I imagine this process could be a long one if they want to fight with the HOA over cost.

While I'm happy I have it in writing that the owner is taking responsibility I need advice on next steps. My insurance is aware of the incident but I haven't really had anything more to tell them. Damage can presumably be getting worse in my place by the day since it's dealing with water.

Was in the worst pain of my life about a month ago. Went to the dentist, prescribed antibiotics and the pain went away. Said I needed RCT+Crown Lengthening+Crown. Insurance denied it, went in to the dentist for the appointment to see what my options were and they charged me a $100 fee for not going through with the treatment and the receptionist said she "was not going to send any more paperwork." Would appreciate advice on how to go from here because I never want to be in that pain again.

What do you consider essential insurance for a typical American, middle class household?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 02:24 PM PDT

I've been trying to make sure that I have sufficient coverage and make insurance align with my other asset classes and retirement plans. Reading around, I've seen the following mentioned as bare minimum essential insurance that applies to most persons:

    • Health insurance (soon to be offered by my employer)
    • Life insurance
    • Disability insurance
    • Renters or homeowners insurance

I currently have umbrella, auto, pet, dental, and vision, so I will be looking to shop for disability and life soon. Can anyone give a perspective on how essential these are? Recommendations on insurers/policies/etc. are also welome. Thanks.

Will my car insurance rates go up?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 09:51 PM PDT

So I'm a 20 Yr/O and I was involved in an accident today. I turned into a car that I didn't see coming and my car isn't damaged at all, and his car has a quarter size dent in the door. My car and insurance is in my brother name (26 YR/O), and the insurance is Allstate. The guy I hit didn't care at all, but his car was a government issued car so he had to make a police report and get insurances involved. I tried doing research and the allstate website says rates may or may not go up, but nothing specific enough. I just wanna figure out if I messed up mine and my brothers insurance rates with this minor accident. Thank you!

Edit: We currently live in Michigan, but plates and insurance is in Ohio for a couple more months

Medi-cal refusing to cover because dually insured

    Posted: 10 May 2021 04:18 PM PDT

I was born in and grew up in California and have Medi-cal health insurance (LA Care). All my primary care providers (vision, internal medicine, OBGYN) are in Los Angeles. I started school in Louisiana last year and was forced to buy school insurance since Medi-cal doesn't cover anything out of state except emergency room visits. Though I technically now live in Louisiana, I still go back home for all my primary care visits and list my CA address as my primary address.

Recently, I went to the optometrist for a new pair of glasses since it would be completely covered under LA Care. The office later called me and said that since I was dually insured, LA Care refused to cover it. I called LA Care and explained that my school insurance only covers medically-related vision complaints (e.g. glaucoma, cataracts) and not prescription-related vision, but LA Care still refused. I filed a grievance. Any other advice on what to do?

Adding my son, who just got his permit, to my insurance.

    Posted: 10 May 2021 06:44 PM PDT

My son just got his permit today. I called my insurance to add him to one of the vehicles.

We have a 2007 Toyota Camry, 2021 Subaru Forester and a giant Chevy work van. My husband and I are covered under all of them. When I called my insurance, they said my son will automatically be covered under all the cars at $250/mo. He will only be driving the Camry and I feel that's really high.

My question is: if I take the Camry off my insurance plan and start new insurance with just my son as the primary driver, will that bring costs down and is it legal? I'm in California, btw. I'd even transfer the title to his name if it will help.

    Worth disputing claim denial?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 12:45 PM PDT

I recently submitted a claim to S.F. for some water damage. It was caused by a leaking toilet seal. We discovered it when the floor started getting spongy. The damage is extensive and we have to gut the bathroom. They're denying it because it was a gradual leak and not a spontaneous event. Is it worth it to attempt to appeal the denial?

Renters insurance is not covering as much as I expected. Please help!

    Posted: 10 May 2021 10:27 AM PDT

I am a full time carpenter who is employed by a general contractor. $1700 worth of personal tools were stolen from my truck in a home depot parking lot. I got renters insurance to cover my apartment but also specifically to cover my personal tools.

After this burglary, an adjuster told me that my policy ($500 deductible) covers $2500 for items that I use to make income but only covers $250 for these items if they aren't at my residence.

Can anyone please shed some light on my situation or does anyone have advice? Please help.

How do you obtain the insurance information with a plate number?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 05:40 PM PDT

While my car was parked, someone left two door dings on both front and back right doors. There is clear evidence of paint transfer as well as dent location matches with this other vehicle's door edge.

I have filed a police report that basically states that my car was hit while stationary and has two dings on the right door panels. It doesn't state that the car that was parked directly next to mine hit it even though the officer's opinion says so and paint transfer and dent location match.

I asked the building to see if there were any cameras and there were no cameras pointed at my car. I don't have any witnesses.

My deductible is a $1000 so I am pretty sure these two door dings will cost less than that to repair even though the metal is dented deep and scratched up. Ultimately, I want to start a claim with this other vehicle's insurance. The problem is that I can not locate the owner of the car since this car is no longer parked next to my car and hasn't parked anywhere in the parking lot since the incident.

I have pictures showing that this car hit my car and have the license plate number. If I file the claim under my insurance, does my insurance adjuster provide me with the information about the other party's insurance? or.. Is there another way of obtaining the insurance information of the other vehicle without starting a claim with mine?

Insurance as a new car owner

    Posted: 10 May 2021 05:20 PM PDT

    Hello fellow redditors,

I am currently a 20 y/o male student living independently in the city. I was looking to purchase my own vehicle in the next few weeks after doing research on cars that may suit me the best for the best price, and had a plethora of questions regarding auto-insurance.

To begin: 1. How much will auto insurance typically run me? I'm renting an apartment in the city, working part time whilst being a full time student, and supporting myself without any assistance. I've been driving since the age of 18 without any tickets, accidents, etc. 2. What insurance do you recommend? What's a good yet cheap insurance that doesn't charge too much based on my situation. 3. If I'm not wrong, insurance is a bi-yearly purchase. Do I pay online every 6 months or do I pay in cash?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

HMO insurance, referral too slow. Can I pay cash and get reimbursed later?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 11:19 AM PDT

TLDR: Just got the call that I have stage 4 cancer. Specialist says they sent info to my primary and that I need to be seen by an oncologist immediately. Primary office says they haven't received anything, specialist says they sent it already. Called the oncologist that I will be referred to and they said they need the approval number to proceed with an appt.

My question, since I know the referral is out there somewhere and my specialist is saying to see an oncologist immediately, can I pay cash now to be seen and have my insurance reimburse me later once the referral goes through?
