    Im sooooooooooo UNDER-QUALIFIED

    Posted: 06 May 2021 06:17 AM PDT

Follow up to this post here.

I JUST GOT FIRED after only 2 months working here.

Man, what an experience this has been! working 12-16 hour days, every day, including weekends after being a top performer at my previous job only to come here and get fired.

Don't get me wrong, I did hit every single target, including my activity and quota. however I was fired because I was "uncoachable", which I completely understand... problem is, they didn't give us much training and expected me to learn everything on my own while the little coaching provided was very vague and never actionable.

Ultimately, this has been the best experience of my life... being able to learn soooooo much in such a short period of time, while hitting my targets, and gaining this new level of confidence that "if I was able to get this job, I can do it again at another company" is really empowering.

I have learned some crazy prospecting skills here, so now, I just have to utilize them in my application to these new opportunities.

If you just got fired... just know that you are not alone, but there is ALWAYS a bright side!

I was let go today. It sucks to not go out on your own terms.

    Posted: 05 May 2021 04:54 PM PDT

Have been with my company since 2012. Have grown in role and responsibility pretty consistently. In February I was put on a PiP for a less than stellar 2020. I only achieved 30% of quota and new leadership put all people that had been with the company more than 2 years who didn't hit 60% of quota on pips. Pretty brutal and cold blooded in my opinion. (Especially since I had a deal close on 1/5 that would have gotten me over the hump). Oh well. Let's knock it out of the park this year. Pip had 2 gates. First was 25% of my quota closed in first quarter, which I had already achieved. Second was 3x quota in qualified pipeline opportunities. No sweat. Bust my butt. Making progress and have two deals in contracting. End of March they extend 60 days. I'm still not at the pipeline number yet but my contracts are in redlines as I type this for about 800K ACV. Including what I had closed already I would have been at 77% quota for the year by end of may.

But they didn't care. I didn't have 5.2 million in qualified opportunities and I wasn't close so they decided to "cut their losses".

I had been interviewing just in case, but didn't totally think they would clip me. Worst part is they offered zero severance because they don't feel I was being honest about my activity. I also won't collect the commission from these deals in redlines.

Moral of the story, keep your heads up, look out for numero uno. Appreciate this sub. Constant great advice from you guys. Will keep looking forward to reading.

    Take the commissions and run?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 09:34 AM PDT

My deal just closed and my company will be paying me my commission by the end of the month. Is it wrong for me to take the check then put in my 2 weeks? Haven't been enjoying the BDR role at all and am completely burnt out.

Be careful hoarding data on the way out

    Posted: 05 May 2021 06:52 PM PDT

    Hi salespeople,

I'm not one of you; I found your subreddit to issue a cautionary tale. I work in IT operations and security.

Today, my big company fired a salesperson who had put in his two-week notice last week. He only had a few more days left until he was gone. He apparently spent much of the last week downloading huge amounts of customer and business data from my company, presumably to bring to his next company (or keep for himself, IDK). This triggered data exfiltration alarms at my company, and the Legal team is now involved.

It's unclear if we (his old company) are going to take him to court or press charges. It's unclear if we're going to try and find out what his new company is, and send them a letter telling them to make sure they not use any of the data he stole. If we do, this new company's first interaction with their new employee is going to be a warning that they steal data from companies, and I wouldn't be surprised if they fire him.

You should assume that your company has safeguards in place to look for data exfiltration. These safeguards were put in place ostensibly to look for hackers trying to slowly leak data, but they'll potentially find whoever might be doing it. Don't get yourself in legal trouble!

Can’t get out of my own head before a call

    Posted: 06 May 2021 10:33 AM PDT

I have been doing cold calling for a while now as a part of a Saas company. I know the product and our competition well and I think this is starting to effect my game. It's weird but the more I know about the industry the more I know how many different options are out there and how few idéal use cases our product has. Does it work yes, is it the best? Not always.

Before a call I start to psych myself out because I see the client I see they aren't equipped and I actually see that some of our competitors would be a better option in an ideal world. This throws my whole game off and I know I don't sound confident anymore on the phone.

What the heck do I do?

    How to handle telemarketing burnout?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 08:15 AM PDT

Long story short, I work in a giant insurance company as an entry job meeting scheduler.

I've been doing this job for the last 3 years in 3 different companies, each time burning out at approx. 9-12 months in.

I feel it physically creeping up on me again and the only way I can see me handling this is either getting stressed and eventually burning out and calling in sick for 3 months - or switching to a completely different job - however, my only experience on CV, is telemarketing (and I'm damn good at it).

How do I approach this? Do I just suck up the heart palpitations and shortness of breath and keep on going? I cant afford to quit with all my bills. Is there any way to handle this?

    Burnt out- SOS

    Posted: 06 May 2021 09:54 AM PDT

    I'm in medical sales.

Been working through the entire pandemic.

Consistent 10-15 cold calls a day.

I have a daughter, and I maintain a great relationship with her, so I push through because of her.

But I think I'm burnt out, everything agitates me, done with people's crap.

What can I do to relieve this? Or any words of encouragement?

    Jeb Blount’s book: Fanatical Prospecting

    Posted: 06 May 2021 09:30 AM PDT

I just finished reading Jeb Blount's book: Fanatical Prospecting

This is a fantastic resource for inside and outside sales professionals.

👉 My 3 most valuable takeaways from this book:

    1. Top reps block off two hours every day for cold calling their prepared targeted prospect list. No interruptions from email, CRM logging, or social media. All of this should be handled after the call block.
    2. Four elements of an effective prospecting email
      1. Hook-use a compelling subject line and opening sentence.
      2. Relate- show value and relate to their problems.
      3. Bridge- connect with their problem and how you can help.
      4. Ask- be clear about the action you want them to take.
    3. Answer the prospects WIIFM – what's in it for me?
      1. Focus on a measurable business objective.
      2. Show them how they can reduce stress, costs, increase sales or improve efficiency.
      3. Demonstrate proof of evidence.

Have you read this book? What do you learn from it?

Sat down with a regional sales manager

    Lead Generation

    Posted: 06 May 2021 12:53 PM PDT

Just started at a small startup as a BDR and looking for ways to generate leads and book meetings for my AE.

I do the conventional cold calling, emails, and LinkedIn connections/messages. Which has been going well, but looking for some other channels I can potentially fall back on when things aren't going well.

Was just wondering if you guys had some other ways that you've booked meetings?

Whether it's through, forum posts, etc.. something that is not the norm but has worked.

    Lose with dignity

    Posted: 06 May 2021 12:29 PM PDT

Basic line up front - No doesn't mean never, learn to back away with dignity.

I just finished a sales call where I was the buyer, not the seller. Considering a large Solar Project for my home. From the very start I've been clear that I'm gathering information, but one Company needed to do a site survey - fair request. Salesman called yesterday 2 hours before the appointment asking if we could push so he could avoid traffic, sure, no problem, but I have a scheduled meeting that I needed to take. Salesman came in on time today, I explained our goals and that this was information gathering. The appointment should've been 90 min, but went closer to 2 1/2 hours. I pushed my previously scheduled meeting (internal, not customer facing) to allow time for the Rep to build his proposal. Turns out I couldn't get the formal proposal but did get the information I needed (Turn-around-time, Cost, expected ROI).

In order to proceed he needed to run a credit check, I explained it wasn't necessary yet. He called his Sales Manager and explained the situation. Sales Manager asked to speak with me on Reps phone, explained all the steps in the transaction, the number of people involved in design and completion, and that a credit check was part of the process to get the design work started. I again stated not yet, let's connect in a few weeks. I was super clear that I'd be shopping this project. His SDR asked why I had asked them to come out "if I had planned to waste their time."

Completely taken aback on this one. There are another half dozen companies I can and will talk to. We won't be doing business in the future. Had this Rep or his SDR pulled back some, I think they'd have had a decent chance of moving forward. Right now, they're off the table.

So whats the deal with Inside Sales Representatives/ Inside Sales Account Executives/Managers? (SaaS)

    Posted: 06 May 2021 11:10 AM PDT

    Hello Guys,

so I am trying to plan my next career move, as I am working as an Midmarket/ENT BDR in the Cybersec field (Europe).

At the moment I am lost in the different Labels of the field.

I am not quite sure what route to go after: Go into SMB Account Manager/ Executive or try to score an Inside Sales Position in Midmarket or maybe even ENT, then transition into an Account Manager / Executive position in Midmarket.

What I noticed is that many people which go into Inside Sales roles never make the jump to an Account Manager or Executive position (at least here in Europe). My target is to get into ENT Account Management as soon as possible (who doesn't lol).

What is the difference and outlooks of those positions?

What would be the wisest career move from your perspective?

Some more context: I am 6 months in my current position (Started in SMB, then moved to Midmarket/ENT couple of months ago). The company is not completely unknown, but not a huge label (around 2k employees). I am thriving in hunting and are overachieving my target, but also have a good techical understanding, since my background is in engineering. I know it might be too early for a change, but I am pretty impatient, like many salespeople lol

I Have a 1-on-1 Interview With A Chief Revenue Officer. How can I best prepare?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 10:57 AM PDT

What's the best way to prepare for an interview with an executive? I have an interview cheat sheet already outlined that I got from a post in this sub. I've filled it out for the company and the basic questions that you should ask in SDR interviews. However, I realize that the playing field changes big-time when interviewing with an executive. What are some unique questions I can ask him? How can I stand out to him?

This is a second-round interview and I'm making a career switch from politics into sales so I'm very new to this. Thank you for your advice in advance!!!!

    Art versus Science in Selling

    Posted: 06 May 2021 06:30 AM PDT

    https://mikeweinberg.com/episode8/

I'm really interested in what you all think about the ideas in this Podcast.

My perspective is that implementing something like this would be great, but that it would be screwed up by sales management. Having big goals and growing is why I got in to sales, but so many sales managers focus on the past via dashboards as opposed to the future. Art vs. science.

Do you ever feel like there is just not enough time in the day when it comes to sales?

    Posted: 05 May 2021 12:43 PM PDT

Lately, business has been picking up. I'm getting more people on the phone, more people ready to buy, more projects. My pipeline is growing. Which are all great things. Except I find that there are never enough hours in the day to compete all the things I want to do. I start each day off with a To Do list, but more pressing things will happen or I'll get calls I have to take....and by the end of the day I've gotten 2 things done off my To Do list + a bunch of other things I didn't account for.

Taking calls takes time but so does logging all the shit into our CRM. I would honestly say logging all my customer interactions takes so much of my time; but that's unavoidable.

How do you manage your time with finding new prospects, managing your pipeline, working on projects, making cold calls, having internal meetings....as a TM I also manage active customers (I have an account manager that deals with them mostly, but I still interact or deal with any problems or new projects that are big). Add outside selling/traveling to the mix and I feel very overwhelmed. I just did a big travel week last week where I hit 7 clients and I feel like I have so much work to catch up on, WHILE still pushing these new prospects through and finding new ones.

How do you all successful inside/outside sales ppl manage your time??

Removing LinkedIn connections when leaving company?

    Posted: 06 May 2021 03:55 AM PDT

Thoughts on removing / blocking LinkedIn connections from my old job at a small company? I know they can find out my next company but why rub it in? I'm thinking they would be personally hurt by me doing so, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'm not moving to a competitor.

    Thanks

How to answer “What is your greatest weakness”?

    Posted: 05 May 2021 08:55 PM PDT

I am applying for an internal interview for a sales position.. I am currently in inside sales. If I were to answer honestly, it were to be my organizational or time management skills. I've been working on that and trying different ways to become more efficient.

Do you sync all prospects to Pipedrive?

    Posted: 05 May 2021 02:41 PM PDT

New to the game and wondering.

When prospecting with sales nav + hunter.io and using mailshake for cold email, do you also add all of the prospects into pipedrive when importing into mailshake? Or do you only zap it to pipedrive when they are a lead that replied?

How do I stop sounding like I’m young?

    Posted: 05 May 2021 07:41 PM PDT

I'm 27 and I've been an AE at a large SaaS company for about 2 years now. I sell to blue collar business owners which are typically 40+. I get comments like "I've owned my business longer than you've been alive!" and today a guy kept referring to me as Bud which frustrated me. I don't think it's had much of an impact on my deals but I feel I lose some credibility when a 20 something year old is telling them how to improve their business. Probably a unique situation and odd question but any advice on how to sound older/more mature?

Jlab GoWork Wireless - had it for like 2 hours and already got a body on it

    Posted: 05 May 2021 03:06 PM PDT

I was going to leave this in /r/headsets but there seems to be a lack of love for their use in office settings and I see "whats a good wireless headset?" posts from time to time here. This is the TL;DR

Mute button on the side that lights up the boom might when it's active, depresses in and clicks when you press it.

Transparent mode on/off if you want to hear yourself and get weirded out when you can't

    Volume control on the headset.

Very comfortable, they look sick and are USB-C also the fit is good with minimum floppyness if you turn your head left and right.

First call I make on it once I get back to work from picking it up(raced home when I get fedex notification) I bag someone. Highly recommended.
