Posted: 28 May 2021 07:20 AM PDT I come from a more technical program and interviewed for a client facing technical sales position. I just received a phone call from them and they basically told me that I didn't seem like I had the outgoing personality for a sales role. I'm not sure how to take this feedback or what I should learn from it. Should I try to come across as more excited during the interview process in my vocal tonality? Edit: typo in topic, should say "What should I work on?"** [link] [comments] |
What’s the best way to explain leaving a job after a year? Posted: 28 May 2021 08:48 AM PDT I'm in my first AE full cycle role after two years as an overpaid BDR. I was making close to 90k in a chill BDR job but there was no opportunity for advancement. So I took the leap to make about the same OTE as an AE. This role has turned out to be not so great. Nobody here makes quota and I'll be lucky to make 75k in year one. The hiring market seems to be picking up and I have a couple recruiters reaching out however there's one company that hasn't reached out but I think would be a great fit. They're an up and coming competitor of my last company. I know the industry pretty well and it interests me. A few of my old coworkers are there now and they have good Glassdoor reviews. I know that I'll get the question of why I'm trying to leave after only a year. The truth is that the money here sucks compared to what I was told to while interviewing but I feel like that's not the best answer. Has anyone been in a similair spot? What's the best way to answer this. I want to have my answer ready prior to any interview. Thank you in advance, appreciate everyone in this sub. [link] [comments] |
Leaving Massive SaaS Company 6 Months In for an Established Startup Posted: 27 May 2021 06:51 PM PDT Hey guys, I'm 6 months into an SDR at one of the big boys in SaaS. I'm very happy with the culture, love the friends I've made and feel very safe where I'm at. My performance is pretty average but has improved massively lately. The people I'm alongside are all very fun and motivating to be around. Within this role the expectation is to go from SDR to AE to management, not a lot of deviation from that path. Just yesterday I received an offer for an advanced SDR role at a SaaS startup that's been around since 2014. They already have several high profile clients, along with Series A funding. I've been in contact with one of their founding members for a few years now, and they told me they feel that it is finally the right time to bring me on board. Basically their expectation for me is to help AE's target an untapped market that I have experience in working with. Salary and location are just about the same, but I would be one of only five SDR's in the company. Would I be correct in assuming that the career options here are a lot more open? Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice to offer? What should I take into consideration when making a decision? [link] [comments] |
Odd interview process, how to be closing along the way? Posted: 28 May 2021 11:57 AM PDT I recently interviewed for an entry level med device sales role. Interview went great and HM said next step would be to meet in person and shadow a case. We set a date to do that (in 2 weeks due to scheduling on my end). I didn't hard close and outright ask for the job because I knew there was that additional interview, so I just reiterated my interest, fit, and that I looked forward to meeting on [date of next interview]. I got an email later saying HM shared my info with a senior rep in the region and that they would be reaching out to talk informally but that they did have my resume. Ok. This person calls me, we talk, they say I'd be a good fit and that they'd let HM knew we spoke. I said I appreciated the endorsement and looked forward to working with them. Sent a thank you to them and one to HM to say thanks for connecting me with that person, reiterate interest, and looking forward to our next meeting. Then I got another call out of the blue with another rep, again informal and just low key. Went about the same as the last, they said they'd be letting HM know we spoke and I'm a good fit. Should I be sending HM emails after all of these conversations to thank them for the connection? I don't get a response so I feel like I'm spamming their inbox. Also, while we do have another interview set up for in 2 weeks, I feel like I've been pretty thoroughly vetted by now. Should I be more aggressively asking for the job at this point? It all just seems a bit odd and I don't know how to react after each of these calls or what I should be doing with the HM at this point. Especially since I know I have another interview, I feel like I can't just ask for the job yet. But sending "thanks for connecting me with XYZ. I enjoyed our conversation and learning more about the role. I look forward to meeting with you on the Xth" just seems redundant at this point. Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 May 2021 11:36 AM PDT I have about 3 years of AE experience at a series B startup, where I went from selling to SMB to ELE to handling quota for couple of SMB reps in addition to my own IC quota. Experience of closing ACV of $ 50-150K typically. Was a management consultant before this. I'm comfortable with working with startups with a headcount of 150-400 and feel I want to explore working for an early stage startup. Accelerated career growth is one reason, but primarily I've realised I want to be able to experiment and figure out what works and what doesn't etc, and build a team etc I'm in conversation with a set of second time entrepreneurs, who bootstrapped their previous startup to $3.5 mil ARR in a crowded category, and sold it at a decent valuation. This product was sold via a trial and pay to upgrade model, which means very low effort on sales whatsoever. This time around, they've picked some seed funding and seem to have created a product in a niche category that is genuinely 10X better than the current status quo. They do bring credibility, but are both techies, and I'm concerned they are not valuing the contribution an experienced sales guy would bring at this stage. They've started selling about 6 weeks ago with plenty of leads and about 8% conversion so far - since the product enhances efficiency of the operation big time, they claim a lot of prospects have slowed down given that it won't take as much time as they thought before. Any advice, pointers or redirects to resources to help evaluate and negotiate this opportunity properly. Hoping to learn from you experience and imagination around this. Pls let me know if I need to furnish any more detail. [link] [comments] |
3 subject lines to make them open that damn email. Posted: 28 May 2021 11:21 AM PDT These 3 subject lines can be used as the first line u send on any social media platform, apart from email.
There 4 things that make these lines work: a) They are short n crisp b) They feel personal c) They create intrigue d) They have the receiver's name in it, which encourages them to open it. Hope u liked it, would love to know what subject lines u r using these days. Disclaimer: This content originally was created on my Instagram at salesguyvaibhav. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 May 2021 09:34 AM PDT Are there sales roles in sustainability (water conservation, solar energy, recycling, food production, etc) that pay well? In my next sales role, I would like to do something that's benefiting the planet. It's a passion of mine, and coincidentally I think it will be one of the fastest growing sectors within a few years. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 May 2021 07:23 PM PDT Background: recently graduated with a bachelor of science in a field related to marketing. I have a lot of drive and ambition although I'm realistic about who I am. I have a degree but no real experience. I don't have much guidance. I feel aimless applying for all sorts of positions on job boards. I'm specifically looking towards sales related careers. What I worry about is going the wrong route starting my first job, not realizing it until later in my career and being stuck in a bad position. I know first post college jobs can really set the tone for much later in my career and I want to make the right decisions to work my way up in a sales/marketing/whatever related field. What are some creative ways you’ve landed meetings? Posted: 27 May 2021 04:30 PM PDT Other than offering a lunch and learn or writing a letter or sending a gift. Trying to think out of the box. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 May 2021 07:30 AM PDT 👋. I had a very lucky few months and am going to receive a paycheck significantly higher than any other. I'm anticipating a ton of taxes on this check since it places me (for this month) in a much higher tax bracket. How do you guys and gals legally limit the amount of taxes that get pulled from your high commission checks? [link] [comments] |
SDR’s - at what point do you get paid commission? Posted: 28 May 2021 06:34 AM PDT What's your management's threshold for qualifying for your commission/bonus for scheduling a meeting? I get $100 per and now it seems like it's harder to get a pay out on my commission - our sales cycles are super long and now it seems like I only get paid out if/when some sort of proposal is submitted. A little background: I've been here for a little over a year and my AE hasn't sold anything yet. I'm currently seeking a new position. [link] [comments] |
Historical cold calling question. Posted: 28 May 2021 05:44 AM PDT Hello, I started a new sales job this past September. As a means to prospect through COVID I've been cold calling with moderate success— 3 to 4% success rate. This is until the weather warmed up (Wisconsin). Since April my success rates have plummeted. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, any theory why the drop in success? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 May 2021 05:07 AM PDT Your best tip to a guy who is just starting in brokerage company? How to connect with a client? How to make them comfortable? I have 5 days to show my best, after that even I am hired or on the street. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 May 2021 01:56 AM PDT So guys I have some experience in sales however is there any international certificate for a professional sales rep ? Like the Canadian CPSA for example? And are they worth the effort for someone who wants to work abroad? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 May 2021 04:33 PM PDT I've been in home improvement sales for 6 years and have done fairly well for myself but i want to go into something new. Still sales just different industry. Any recommendations (an area you enjoy) would be appreciated to read thru. In california. No preference on travel/WFH/or 50/50~ of both. B2B or B2C doesn't matter I just prefer face to face selling. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 May 2021 08:02 PM PDT I've been an Enterprise SDR at a SaaS company for about a year. Earlier in the year, they cut our comp and I'm not losing the territory that I've worked so hard to succeed in. I've been told promotion is close for months, but at this point they're saying only external hires (with closing experience) for AE spots. Needless to say, the burnout is really hitting and it's starting to affect my performance. Do I leave to get closing experience selling a less "sexy" product (transactional sale, something like HR software)? Or do I stay and risk not getting promoted and getting burned out more? Tips on how to cold call more efficiently? Posted: 27 May 2021 07:10 PM PDT Just looking for advice how to do it faster and efficiently because it takes me 3 hours just to reach 30 dials. And when i read some of the posts here about cold calling they usually reach at least 50 above daily. Any tips would be much appreciated on calling faster, making more dials without sacrificing an entire day just to reach 50 dials or above. Also do you follow up on the same day for calls that reach voicemail? [link] [comments] |
What is it needed to be an AE? Posted: 27 May 2021 09:36 PM PDT Hey r/sales. I've seen that many people make a big difference between SDR/BDR and AE. I've read that it is normally divided as hunters/farmers or closers. What would you say are the skills needed to be an AE and a "closer"? [link] [comments] |
What are President's Club trips really like? Posted: 27 May 2021 09:31 PM PDT Are they mostly fun, or is it more like being on a business trip in a tropical location? What should I expect in terms of being in business mode vs having a good time and hanging out more casually? [link] [comments] |
Are there SDR/BDR part time jobs? Or do you have to work full time? Posted: 27 May 2021 09:05 PM PDT I'm studying marketing in the fall and plan to go into sales after I graduate. I want to get experience and start working 20-30 hours a week now while I'm in college? Is it possible to find a part time job like this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 May 2021 07:14 PM PDT Joined a new company in the heavy machinery market and I inherited some existing accounts. I'll be meeting the their team in person and am looking for help on how to prepare. I am fresh to the AE role, and specifically I don't know what we'll talk about and what questions I should ask about their business Anyone have some advice? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 May 2021 06:19 PM PDT Very fortune to have received 3 competitive offers for BDR/SDR position for SaaS companies who are all growing exponentially. Weighting in different factors I am struggling to make a choice of what is the best for my next career step. I would appreciate any advice on factors I should consider when making my decision.
