Anyone else experiencing the trend of associates leaving your public accounting firm before they are promoted to senior?

    Posted: 09 May 2021 04:58 PM PDT

The motto for 2021 in accounting is to stay in our lane.

    Posted: 09 May 2021 01:35 PM PDT

Is there a point hours should be considered excessive, even during month end?

    Posted: 09 May 2021 02:28 PM PDT

Not meant to be a post to complain and dive into r/antiwork territory. What should we accept as a reasonable load during a regular basis on month ends, quarter closes, etc?

    12 hour cap? 15?

My boss doesn't understand why I don't care to be promoted when I'm already pulling 15 hour days regularly during close (and planning to leave). He calls it "standard for the industry" and I call it "bullshit". What should we deem reasonable?

    What's the largest % of a big4 office you've seen quit?

What does the firm even do for staffing? We've had so many people leave from my office already this year

[Canada] You have 7 years to complete your CPA path. What happens if you don't?

    Posted: 09 May 2021 06:27 PM PDT

anyone in NJ know if its possible for a recent graduate to get a $25+ job in accounting. Im only getting $15/hr offers and my father is telling me not to take them

    Posted: 09 May 2021 09:05 PM PDT

having a lot of trouble getting an accounting job. my father may kick me out once he realizes Im unemployable and doomed to minimum wage despite my gpa. keeps telling me there are jobs paying 100k+ everywhere for new grads but I tell him how bad the job market is and he just yells at me. I currently work at a grocery store making $15/hr and Im worried about what will happen if I dont get a well paying accounting job soon since my father want to retire to his origin country

I don't want to get kicked out but it seems inevitable. I was planning on living with my mother but she refuses to live with me cause she says I remind her of my father

Financial Analysts - how did you get there?

    Posted: 09 May 2021 03:49 PM PDT

I've been in accounting for 7 years (tax, audit, financial, management. I'm very analytically minded and wanting to do more with my career than month end close.

I've recently read Financial Analyst job postings and I'm really intrigued and think I would enjoy this career path. I'm curious how those in this field ended up there. What does your day-to-day look like? Any other insights?

Moving from partnership tax to corporation

    Posted: 09 May 2021 08:15 PM PDT

Hey all, I am working in one of the B4 with 100% of time spent in partnership tax compliance. However, I am hoping to work in corporation in the future and my goal is to work for large tech firms such as Amazon. How difficult is the move? Would can I do to help this transition? Thanks!

Serious question for Federal Government Accountants

    Posted: 09 May 2021 05:07 PM PDT

When a position says promotional potential is only GS 11 or GS 12, does that mean it will be very difficult to move to GS 13?

I know very few people go to GS 14 & GS 15. But tbh if I did go the gov route I'd like to at least cap out at GS 13.

Could you always just apply to another position internally within the government to get to GS 13? Any insight is appreciated.

    Hate audit - advice needed!

    Posted: 09 May 2021 10:55 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I've been working in audit for almost 3 years now and I'm about to take my final exams this summer for ACA and it's dawned on me that I cannot do this role any longer. I don't find it interesting, I'm not particularly good at it and the hours suck for the pay I'm on. I love learning about the different industries and speaking to clients and working in a team, but that just isn't a good enough trade off for what comes with the role.

I've been looking into more management accounting roles, but even then I'm unsure on whether that's something that would agree with me given my distaste to audit.

Are there any other roles out there that could allow me to use some of my knowledge, have an acceptable living salary and also have a life?

This is probably wishful thinking but I thought I'd ask

    Orlando Job Market?

    Posted: 09 May 2021 04:51 PM PDT

    Hey folks,

Anyone from the Orlando area that could shed some light into the Orlando job market for financial accounting?

Family is thinking of moving down there, and I'm not sure what to expect. My main experience is in tech/software/manufacturing companies and my current role is in technical accounting / controllership and I'm in the Northeast.

Are job opportunities in Orlando plenty, or is it hard to find decent gigs? Also any idea what the general salary ranges are for accounting senior managers / assistant controllers ?

    Thanks !

    Warning: really stupid excitement post

    Posted: 09 May 2021 08:57 AM PDT

So I am a week out of college and I just accepted an offer at a relatively small place. I am beyond excited, they seem to have a really good work culture and value their employees well. Any employee I've talked to this far seems to have never worked more than 60 hours in busy season, and really seems to like the job. They have a rotation system between tax and audit, with the option to remain in one or the other if you wish. Unfortunately I will have to work towards my 150 credits while I'm there. Given the opportunity I would've liked to get it out of the way earlier, but it's just not in the cards.

Some background on me: I always get called odd because I enjoy boring, monotonous jobs where I can just autopilot until the end of the day. As long as the boring job pays well enough to fund my outdoor hobbies on the side that's more than enough for me. (Enter the "what do you do for a living? Oh, Accounting? Fuuuuuuuun." sarcastic comments)

Anyways, I am excited to meet some other accountants and here's to building a career! 🍻

If you've read this far, I'd like to welcome any suggestions or warnings in public accounting, so please fire away!

    Bookkeeping and Quickbook

    Posted: 09 May 2021 06:35 PM PDT

Im a senior accounting student and Ive been thinking in taking a Quickbooks course but Im not sure if I should also take a bookkeeping course since what they teach there is basic accounting and we already learn that in the first accounting courses and I don't want to throw away the money and time learning something I already know. I also prefer taking in person classes. Any suggestion?

Finishing CPA after leaving B4? (CANADA)

    Posted: 09 May 2021 06:35 AM PDT

If you stay in B4 for let's say 1.5 years and then bounce to industry, what is the process of then finishing your CPA work requirements? Is there anything important to keep in mind if you jump to industry before finishing your 30 months of work?

Was it careless of me to let my coworkers know which firm I’m going to after turning in my 2 weeks?

    Posted: 09 May 2021 09:58 PM PDT

I'm leaving my firm for a B4 firm. Once I sent in my 2 weeks, several of my coworkers reached out and asked where I was going next. I guess people are naturally curious lol and I didn't think too much of it, but I let them know which firm I'm going to because I thought they'd find out later anyways once I update my LinkedIn. I was told that it is considered bad to let people know where you're going to next and I'm not sure if I'm making a mistake.

    Advice for recent college graduate

    Posted: 09 May 2021 09:45 PM PDT

    Advice for recent college grad

I'm currently an undergrad senior days away from graduating with a double major in Accounting and Real Estate Finance. I never had an accounting internship (but worked part time as an assistant property manager and now is interning for a small commercial real estate brokerage shop). GPA is 2.95. I got into Boston College to do a masters in Accounting so I can meet the 150 credit requirements to get CPA.

How realistic is it to be able to land a job in Accounting audit/tax for a Big 4 or maybe medium sized firm?

How would I be able to increase my chances?

Should I just give up of starting my career in Accounting and just focus of real estate?

    Thanks
