Posted: 04 Apr 2021 05:38 AM PDT I am a (24m) and I am using a throw away account So, back in High School I had a... well, not a girlfriend, more of a... bully but also who I was friends with sometimes? I am not sure how to describe it, but anyways we had (consentual) sex a few times but never really dated or spent much time together, it was a very strange relationship. She eventually moved away without telling me where she went and I never used social media, so that was the last I saw of her for several years until I started using Facebook very recently. I will note that we did not engage in safe sex and the last time we were together was less than two weeks before she moved away. Well, as I said I started using Facebook recently, and out of curiosity I started looking up old classmates, and it actually suggested her as a friend due to us having a few mutual friends. I looked at her profile, and well... she has a seven year-old son, and I think it might be mine. The timeline on his birthday lines up absolutely perfectly, he would have been born exactly nine months after we were together. He is also, as far as I can tell, my exact spitting image- we have the same hair, same eyes, same face- I held up an old school photo of mine from the second grade and I can't tell the difference. I am in shock by this, and I don't know what to do. She didn't respond to me at all, and from what I remember of her I don't think she will. I was not informed of this in any way, and if he is my son I desperately want to be involved in his life. I was raised by a single mother, never met my father, and I do NOT want my own child to go through that same life if I am his father. What can I legally do if she doesn't willingly cooperate with me? Edit for bot: I am in the United States of America. I am in Alaska and the other party is in Illinoise. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Apr 2021 03:59 PM PDT Howdy all, I'm curious about my options. I received a death threat on this site about five months ago. It was serious enough that the FBI opened a case. They had to close it a month later because Reddit's safety team remains non-responsive. I continue to receive threats on this website and nothing is happening. I have tried the official channels, gone by the books, used their official report forms, and now I am trying in ModSupport here: https://old.reddit.com/r/ModSupport/comments/mjhx6s/how_do_i_get_reddits_safety_team_to_cooperate/ Where do I start to understand my rights? Is Reddit legally obligated to cooperate with the FBI on this? Any advice? This is a serious problem for lgbt moderators around reddit, about all of us have received a death threat at some point, and reddit consistently takes no action. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
My pre-owned car magically drove 11k miles Posted: 04 Apr 2021 08:42 AM PDT I bought a CPO from a dealer in Texas. All the paperwork we signed had the odometer listed at just over 6000 miles. Due to a service issue, we had to have the car delivered to my house. In the excitement surrounding the arrival, we didn't think to check the odometer which is now at 17k miles. It would be physically impossible to add 11k miles to a vehicle in just 2 days. This is obviously fraudulent. What are my options? [link] [comments] |
Landlord requiring an internet service provider switch mid-lease Posted: 04 Apr 2021 06:32 AM PDT I signed a 12-month lease on an apartment in Indianapolis, Indiana with a move-in date of September 4, 2020, and an end date of September 3, 2021. On April 1, 2021, I was furnished a letter at my door stating that a new Fiber internet service was being installed in the apartment complex and would be completed sometime in May, at which point all residents would be required to switch to this service. This is the first time I had heard of this. There were no mentions in any of my communications with the leasing staff that I would be required to switch internet service providers, or be required to begin paying for a new internet service at some undetermined date mid-lease. In fact, the only mention of 'internet' occurred during the only non-written communication I had with the staff, during a Zoom 'tour' of the apartment. I specifically asked about the internet, and I was recommended Comcast (which I ended up getting). My sole concern in this matter is that I signed a 1-year contract with my current provider, and would be on the hook for the remaining balance of the contract if I were in fact required to terminate early. Up until this point this probably sounds like a slam dunk, but that is where things get hairy: I went and checked my lease agreement, and to my surprise (considering I read the lease at the time), it seems they did actually make a mention of an internet service in the utilities addendum section. This section is prefaced by:
And then proceeds to list a variety of utilities. The list item about the internet appears as such (bold means it was added into a fill-in-the-blank spot):
As a lay person, a few things jump out at me here:
Any thoughts on the situation are greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
My friend who let me crash on their couch for a bit is extorting me for my Xbox and TV Posted: 04 Apr 2021 07:10 AM PDT They let me crash on their couch, for free. Never even had a verbal agreement with them that I had to pay in any kind of way to live there. They ended up having to kick me out because their Grandma that lives with them seems to have dementia or something similar coming on and me being there was causing too much stress on the household. I left willingly, but had to leave some of my belongings at their house for safe keeping because I basically went to live on the streets. They accepted this, knowing I had no where else to keep my belongings. A week ago I finally was able to secure a stable living situation renting a house with some dudes I know. All was well with my friends, I asked for my belongings back and they delivered them with the exception of my smart tv and xbox one s. They gave me some kinda bullshit reason as to why, and I shrugged it off thinking I would eventually get it back from them. They've basically ghosted me for this last week of me asking when I could meet up with them to get my xbox and tv. I finally got a response from them last night saying that if I wanted my stuff back I needed to pay them $300, which the xbox and tv are barely worth brand new. I'm stupid and didn't have the serial code saved in any kind of way, but both devices have my accounts on them. My xbox account with all of my games and card info, disney+, netflix etc. And the smart tv also has my disney+, netflix, youtube etc. I got my friend to admit that the xbox was mine through text by telling him to not delete my account off of it so that I wouldn't have to redownload my games and stuff. I also kinda got him to admit it was my tv because they reactivated my disney+ account on my tv. I know I could get them in a civil case, but is there any chance of getting the police to meet me at thier house to force them to give me my stuff back? I'm not sure that I necessarily have enough evidence to do so but I'm worried that if I make a civil case out of it they will try to destroy my xbox and tv or something, I don't know. It breaks my heart to do anything against them, because they've been the family I've always wantes. Any advice would be tremendously appreciated. Oh and I live in the US. Thank you for your time if you choose to read this. [link] [comments] |
Sued by a debt collector and can’t afford a lawyer Posted: 04 Apr 2021 08:34 AM PDT As the title says I was served for a 1440 debt from a collection agency, I have 21 days to "file a response" to their claims. They want the 1440 plus legal fees which will probably be more than the balance I owe. So I'm in recovery and I have about 5 months sober but before that I drove my finances into the ground and I'm just picking up the pieces now. I run a detailing business which isn't registered because I don't need to here in Idaho because of where I live so on paper I'm unemployed. I'm wanting to know what the hell I should do I don't even know how to file a response. I don't have much but what I do have is my savings to move back to be with my 2 kids. Any guidance is much appreciated, thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Surprise - paved road on our "empty" property? Posted: 03 Apr 2021 08:53 PM PDT My family wants to build a house on land they purchased many years ago at an auction. We went to go visit it recently and low and behold, the neighboring condo built a road over our lot, which leads to their parking lot. We have no idea how long this road has been here.. I just reached out to the City's development office for advice, but am curious what more I can do in the meantime? I'm speculating the condo might have gotten a road easement... which I don't understand since they already had road access on the other side of their property.. As the property owners, shouldn't my family have been notified regardless if the neighbors had acquired a road easement? If that's the case, does this mean we can't build a house on our land? The road literally takes up the entire lot :( Any advice on what to Google or who to reach out to would be much appreciated! edit: Washington state [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Apr 2021 09:34 AM PDT After four years of hell my divorce is almost over. It's lasted so long we needed to adjust the CS and the schedule. Signing the agreement wasnt really the end. When it is done can I file something with the ABA about this lawyer? (Massachusetts) 1) He informed the court in writing and in person that my ex was buying a house next door to her parents. He did so to have our children relocate and change schools against my wishes. There was no house for sale at that time next to her parents and although she did move she did not move to that house as it was never for sale. She called me two weeks before school started saying she wanted permission to move to a third town even farther away. I said no. She then rented an apartment in the town where her parents reside. She won this temporary order to relocate the children based on this lie and by stating I had abandoned the family. This was also simply not true as we had a 50-50 trial seperation where I had my own place other than the martial home. This was sorted out by a GAL and mediation and we now have a 50-50 schedule (and the children go to school in the school district where I reside). Later by accident I witnessed my exes lawyer using the same tactic in another divorce case. I saw this in the courtroom because he had two clients at the same court. In this other case the mother and father agreed that mother would move to an adjacent school district but instead she moved far away and now the father was suing. The same day in the court hallway I approached the other father and his lawyer to talk to them. And my exes lawyer when he saw this flew into a rage and came running down the hall literally yelling don't you talk to him etc. The other father's layer was screaming you're an asshole at my exes lawyer. I thought they were going to fight. I was telling my exes lawyer to calm down and eventually had to come between her lawyer and his lawyer to prevent an altercation. 2) He repeatedly has told the court that I brought the issue of school choice to our parent coordinator for consideration immediately after signing the separation agreement in an attempt to circumvent the court. This was not true. He was corrected by my attorney twice. On one occasion after repeating the lie for at least the third occasion to the court I demanded my attorney correct him more forcefully. The judge questioned the attorney asking why this issue was in dispute and if what my attorney was saying was true or not. Her attorney hemmed and hawed and didn't say anything intelligible. The judge then directly asked my ex wife who broke down into tears and she admitted that it was in fact she who brought the issue of school choice to the parent coordinator. (The parent coordinator had given me the right to change their schools, the town my wife had moved to based on the temporary orders from item 1 was one of the worst school districts in the state and my ex wife had told the pc she had no intention of remaining there.) My ex faught the pc directive in court stating there had been no change of circumstance and won. The pc said the judge was in error because there had been a change, my exes explicit statement about moving, according to the PC this was a change of circumstance at the time. 3) Her attorney mailed a letter and court documents to the school district in an attempt to prevent them from following the parent coordinator directive to enroll them in school where I live. When the pc issued the directive in item 2 my ex told me to enroll the children and tell her when it is done. At the same time as I'm doing this she is filling papers with the court. She and her attorney are also contacting the school district office. There were also, besides the documents he mailed, an unknown number of phone calls to the school district as they attempted to prevent me from enrolling the children in school where I live. I was unaware they were doing this. This event was complicated by the fact that I had during the previous week been offered a teaching position in the school district. My offer of employment was rescinded immediately after my exes attorney sent those documents. I don't know what they were. During court my then attorney asked for copies. The judge asked what they were to her attorney, he simply shuffled papers for a minute or two pretending to look and eventually the judge just said let's just move on. 4) When we changed judges because the original judge retired her attorney again stated that I was circumventing the court through the pc and stated that I had brought up school choice immediately after signing the agreement. See item 2. This is a lie, of which he had now been corrected mutiple times and his client admitted it was a lie when asked by the original judge. 5) During pre trial he accused me of harassment. He explicitly stated I was harassing his client, he stated that I had emailed her repeatedly just that morning. I had...to answer two sets of questions she had sent me! The tone I used was fine. He just wanted to say it? Idk. Literally the time before that when we were in front of the judge he said there was zero conflict in this divorce (I was asking for us to be required to jointly go to a high conflict parenting class which they faught tooth and nail, I ended up going by myself on my own volition because they faught it so hard). He's continually accused me of nonsensical things but never followed up. Harassment, being a drunk, abandonment, working too much, not working enough, etc...we have 50-50 custody and the kids go to school where I live, she now lives 45 minutes away three towns over. (I should explain for clarity that my ex relocated the children, and did other things, through the temporary order based on lie #1, but that after a GAL and mediation we ended up with an agreement where we shared physical and legal custody equally. My ex then went to the PC immediately after signing the agreement and informed the pc she was moving and would relocate the children again. The pc issued a directive that the opposite should happen and they should change to my school district. My ex faught that directive in court and won. Later next summer my ex filed for a temporary order to relocate the children again as she had just moved in secret...she told me and the pc that she had not moved, but the court sent her back to the PC and the PC issued another directive that the children need to be enrolled in "my" school district. My ex currently lives about 45 minutes away.) I would think any of these things would be unethical. I mean...this isn't normal right? My current attorney has agreed that if he ever accuses me of something illegal again (like harassment) that we will file something with the court. But this behavior isn't normal right? Or no? I'd really like to know from an impartial outside source, based on what I said, if this is normal or not. [link] [comments] |
I received a title ix no contact directive with no explanation Posted: 04 Apr 2021 08:58 AM PDT I hooked up with this girl and we had consensual sex, a few days later she blocked me out of the blue and my university sent me a no contact directive from title ix saying not to contact her. The letter doesn't say why it was sent just that an incident between me and her was reported. The letter doesn't accuse me of anything and I have no idea how this process works. Is this just a restraining order equivilant, is it something they send to me while they investigate the matter and will send me another letter later? Am I going to need a lawyer? Is an accusation to follow? What rights do I have in a title ix case? The state is tennessee if it matters [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Apr 2021 11:07 AM PDT I bought a house around this time last year since the Pandemic causes houses in the area to temporarily drop. Since then, the housing market has skyrocketed. I paid $160k for it and my realtor believes I should get around $200k for it now. Now here's the issue: My mom found out that I am selling the house and has expressed interest in buying it. At first I was open to it because I thought the value of my house was only around $175-180k. But once my realtor told me that I will get much more than that, things have gotten a little tense with my mother. She still wants the house but doesn't want to pay that much for it. She has kept trying to convince me to sell it for the value I originally thought it was worth but I've resisted. I finally thought she let it go until yesterday, when she approached me with an offer. She'll pay exactly what I paid for the house but she'll give me 30-40k under the table to make up for the loss I'd be taking on paper. She wants to do it to lower the realtor fee, mortgage and length of the loan. I don't know what to say or even know if that's legal. What legal repercussions would there be of doing this, if any? Woke up to car accident, don’t know what to do Posted: 04 Apr 2021 11:55 AM PDT Hello, I'm from Southern California (inland empire). This morning I woke up and saw that my car was hit pretty badly. The rear of my car was barely on a red curb and I got a $50 fine from that. There was no note from whoever hit it but there was a paper that says "police department important information for victims" with the case number and generic info on it. I called the records bureau and they said I can request a copy of the report but they have no idea when it'll be ready. I called my insurance company but it seems they are closed and want to know what I should do and say before calling them again. I live alone far from my family and friends with only this one car and not much money. Thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Apr 2021 10:47 AM PDT Not sure how to go about this but I was pointed to this sub here on reddit for troubles such as this, so sorry for lack of knowledge of posting etiquette. My father and I decided to put our names down for a car last July. To put it simply, the title reads "[fathers name] AND [my name]", and with what I've down as far as my own research and looking further into this state (FL), he cannot sell the car without me, take me off the title without me, or otherwise treat it as if he's the sole owner of the vehicle. My problem doesn't involve me getting the car back in my possession—it's the belongings that I have still left inside. This vehicle is my last "tie" to him, as he's abusive and controlling and I no longer care for the vehicle. However, I just want my belongings back, which includes both personal items as well as information such as my birth certificate, W-2s, social security card, and more. They are located in the trunk of the car, and as far as he's let my family know, the car is not on his property and hidden somewhere else as a power move because he is angry with my relationship with my current fiance, and is afraid I will come and "steal" the car back. He is very hostile and I cannot simply ask him for my belongings back. He will try to negotiate with me/make me do something I don't want to do, such as sign off my rights with the vehicle (and leaving me unsure if I will even see my belongings again despite the event of me turning the rights of the car over to him). How can I legally get my belongings/legal documents back from a car that I co-own, yet lack knowledge of its location? Or am I in for a total loss? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Apr 2021 06:05 AM PDT Location: New York, USA Graduating medical student here, starting medical residency this summer. One of the forms in the on-boarding process says, "I consent to the inspection by the hospital of all records and documents, including medical records, at other hospitals that may be material to an evaluation of my professional qualifications and competence..." Is this normal? I can't tell if it's asking for my medical records, or the records of other patients in whose care I was involved. Or both. It also says, "I release from liability all representatives of the hospital for their acts ... in connection to evaluating my application, credentials, and qualifications..." I feel like they're saying "show us your medical records and don't sue us if we fire you once we find something we don't like about your health." Or am I misunderstanding what it wants? Posted: 04 Apr 2021 10:36 AM PDT MA, USA. A union employer is requiring me to sign a contract that I will pay back my salary on a sliding scale for a mandatory 10wk training if I leave for another employer (100% <2yrs, to 25% <5yrs). The training is required as part of the CBA, not a legal requirement. Is this legal? To specify, it's a town Fire Department requirement reimbursement for the salary during the state Fire Academy. The town does not pay for this training, just my salary during that time. [link] [comments] |
Kansas - Total loss apartment fire Posted: 04 Apr 2021 01:50 PM PDT Well, I'm still in moderate shock but just before the Easter weekend my fiance and I lost all of our material possessions in an apartment fire, not our doing. We have renters insurance and everyone got out ok. I'm here because what I can't seem to shake is that during the panicked rush of leaving our home in the middle of the night to find half the building a blaze there was not the sound of a single smoke alarm. Each unit has a hard wired alarm. Two tenants were taken away in an ambulance due to smoke inhalation and were in critical condition. I may just still be off balance from everything that has happened in the past 72 hours - but I can't seem to let that variable go. We had no warning aside of my smelling what I thought was a fire to clear the building, we were half way out the door when a neighbor was banging on all the doors for everyone to clear out. I realize rental agreements probably have an absurd amount of fine print removing liability, but is this something I should look into? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Apr 2021 05:38 PM PDT My dad paid the first $8k bill, because it was sent to collections and they were threatening him. Duke sent a new bill for $31k. Posted: 04 Apr 2021 07:43 AM PDT Back in January I had a routine vasectomy performed. This was performed in Wisconsin. Nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary initially. I did everything the dr advised. I came home and sat in my recliner icing and relaxing. By that evening the pain I was in was becoming unbearable. By the next morning I was covered in bruises and had massive swelling along with intense pain, unlike anything I'd ever experienced before. I ended up making 2 trips to the ER within a week because the pain and swelling was so intense. They did all sorts of tests on me and determined it was a large hematoma. Nothing they could do but wait for it to go away and prescribe pain meds. From what I can tell the hematoma was caused by a ruptured blood vessel? Now the clinic and hospital say I owe them over $15,000 for the procedure and follow up visits. I still have swelling nearly 4 months later along with occasional pain in my groin. Is there a way to contest these charges for malpractice based on what happened, or am I basically stuck with the debt? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Apr 2021 10:00 AM PDT An older family member paid a down payment to a dealership and traded in a vehicle. They held the vehicle for a week or two, now they have received notification that their financing was not approved. It looks like they may request that he return the vehicle. I have done some research, and this is looking like the spot delivery or yo-yo dealership scam. The purchase was made in Winchester, VA What options does he have to either complete this deal and contract the way it was first written , or exit this deal with his old vehicle returned plus all down payments retto him? Also, what happens if the dealer claims to no longer have the vehicle that was traded in? [link] [comments] |

Store Manager Committed Time-Card Fraud. Posted: 04 Apr 2021 01:54 PM PDT Hi Everyone, I need advice! So, my work place has been in shambles. I had to report my coworker to HR because she told me she would have "ripped me a new one" if I was at work a day I called out sick due to me reorganizing in a way she didn't like. I basically rewrote some cards we have to organize our bins because I couldn't find the new one. My boss got really upset that I reported her to HR instead of talking to her when I have reported things to her about my coworker multiple times and she doesn't do anything. Now, the day before yesterday, my coworker made a comment about me probably needing to leave early, due to me possibly hitting overtime. My coworker then revealed my boss would probably just "move those hours into the next week" like she did for her. I'm sorry, what? My coworker didn't realize how illegal this is. Now, I'm questioning if my pay was EVER effected in this manner. I brought it up again but recorded her with my cellphone without her knowing and was planning on sending in the recording to HR, The President, and the Vice President. However, my coworker did not know I was recording her and our conversation. A) I have already submitted an inquiry with HR about my coworker. Would me mentioning this instance, strike the "oh, is she being malicious towards them?" B) I recorded her without her consent because I have a feeling, that when she does bring it up, it will be swept under the rug. If I did submit this, would I get in trouble for recording her without her knowing? I just truly feel like its my responsibility to report this kind of thing. I am in the process of looking for another job, my workplace is extremely toxic and I can not take it anymore. C) I figured just do my best to hit OT and see if my hours are altered, should I just do that?... I'm in the state where everything is bigger in... Thanks guys. [link] [comments] |
Roommate got an ESA mid-lease in a “no pets” lease (Kansas, USA) Posted: 03 Apr 2021 08:56 PM PDT Hello, my roommate decided to buy a ferret and to be able to keep it here he had it registered as an ESA. In my state ESA animals are allowed in "no pets" lease, but I did not expect to be living with an animal this year. It stinks up our entire house, and makes me not leave my room furthering my depression & struggles in school. I didn't want a pet that's why I signed this 12 month lease but 6 months in He decided to get the ferret. I have thrown up multiple times in my mouth walking out of my bedroom due to odors from the ferret. I need help [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Apr 2021 01:44 PM PDT I bought a used car (Honda accord) on Craigslist from a private seller. When I was cleaning it I noticed a clear blood splatter on the inside of the trunk covering most of the metal that is exposed when the trunk is open. It's not rust, I wiped some of it off before I knew what it was and I'm almost positive it's blood in a very clear splatter pattern. What would you do in this situation? Power of Attorney vs Healthcare surrogate Posted: 04 Apr 2021 11:25 AM PDT Edit: Bot says I need to say this is for the State of Florida. I'm in the middle of a family / medical / legal / financial nightmare. The long story you can get by looking at my history. But the short version is this: My mentally unstable sister was the only person at the hospital when they needed someone to discharge my 90 year old father. He had not set up any sort of Power of Attorney, DNR, or anything else - so it was either have them put him in a nursing home for 14 days (covid quarantine even though he had both shots long ago) or - with great fear and worry from 1000 miles away (I was not given enough notice to get here on time) have her be granted his healthcare surrogate so he could go home until I arrived. Well after 2 weeks of my sister being more insane and unstable than ever, making all sorts of threats and not helping, - actually intentionally making my work impossible or more difficult, I have decided that I need to have my Dad grant me Power of Attorney. The problem is, she has this healthcare surrogate power already. This was done after a 30 second conversation with some sort of psychologist in the hospital spoke with my dad while he was all drugged-up and he doesn't even remember the conversation. He is sharp, awake and alert now and agrees that what we need is to make this change, but feels like my sister has the upper hand given her having been given authority from the hospital. What can / should I do? Would a more recent POA trump the surrogate arrangement or would I first need a new evaluation of my father by either the same or another psychologist first? The whole thing is the biggest nightmare I have ever been involved with. TIA [link] [comments] |
