Anyone have any experience with SBA loans?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 05:26 PM PDT

I have a bit of time before I can even start thinking about getting loans. But after I have my business established a bit I would like to look into the sba express loans for purchasing equipment. I started doing some research and I kept seeing a 2 year requirement. Is there anyway to get funding without being in business for 2 years? I'm going to reach out to some local banks that offer the sba loans and get some more info. I like to read up and get as much info as I can so I can be prepared for the future.

Starting a small microgreens business In a small town (35k) when there is already one business at local farmers market/ serving most restaurants, wasting my time ?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 05:05 PM PDT

    Hey all!

So the title pretty much sums up my question I've been growing microgreens for a while and I'm thinking about making a business out of it, but it seems like one small company is already well established in town with the larger restaurants to the smaller local businesses, is it worth my time to try and get into the space?

What are my options ? Any tips ? Thanks !

Considering starting business selling hand made resin gauges

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 06:28 PM PDT

I have recently started crafting with resin & polymer clay, making ear gauges. I have been entertaining the idea of turning it into a business & selling at the local pop up markets or online. I am thinking of testing the waters by sending a few pairs of hand made ear gauges to friends, or friends of friends, for feedback and possible reviews.. is this a good idea? If so, ideally how many people should I try to find to gift to? Any advice is welcome & much appreciated! TIA

Is there a place to find a profit & loss statement that is easy to understand and organizes daily inputs?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 05:52 AM PDT

Where can I find a free profit & loss template that is easy to understand?

I need a basic excel version that allows me to include my daily entries, with categories, designations (expenses, income), and the likes, that gives categorical totals for the schedule c.

Quickbooks is more than I need, so I'm staying away from that.

This is for a small business

    Thanks

Edit: thanks for all the great suggestions!

I forgot I can add additional sub-tabs within one Excel file for each category.

How do I code the first (summary) page to add the results off all categorical pages and total them under each individual category subheading?

I want to be able to just have the Schedule C categories on it so I can quickly reference when doing taxes.

New here & need some help. Does anyone else here use Square?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 04:06 PM PDT

I'm a hairstylist & I schedule clients through Square for appointments. Well actually, I require my clients to book online and it requires them to enter in there card info for any cancellation fees or anything. I notice that clients will remove their card and sometimes not show up. Only happened about twice before I started checking every single appt because I didn't know Square even allowed them to remove it. But for legal purposes, they have to allow it. So I'm wondering if there's anyway to be notified when someone removes their card right after booking because it happens a good bit and I end up messaging them saying it was removed and I need their card on file to reserve the appointment! Does anyone know what I can do? Or know anything about Square and how I can work around this. Thanks in advance!!!

Vegetarian restaurant in small southern town:

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 02:34 PM PDT

I'd like to start a vegetarian restaurant in my small town in southern U.S.

How do I go about this?

I have no money. Unemployed. And live in my car.

I've always liked the idea of owning a business. Not working for someone else's business.

I also like the idea of owning a restaurant. But I don't want to support the meat industry because I think it's wrong.

On one hand, I understand that the limited item selection might harm my chances. But I'd rather not have a restaurant at all, than sell things I'm morally against.

On the other hand, I think a vegetarian restaurant could do well, because there's literally no competition in that market around me. Yeah, there's restaurant's that have vegetarian options, but they're few and far between. Not nearly the main attraction.

I like this idea. Preferably I would live in a room in the back of the building so I'd have a home. Accomplish two things at once. Have somewhere to live, and have a source of revenue. While also doing good, and providing the community with a meatless option for food.

My problem is, I don't even know where to begin. I'm 23, and have literally no business experience beyond working temp jobs when I was a Vagabond. I'm a high school drop out, and no qualifications. Will that alter my chances for a loan? Can I even get a loan without owning any capital?

    Thanks for the advice.

Opening up a joint bank account with friend to save for future business

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 03:10 AM PDT

    Hello everyone!

As stated above, my best friend and I have been saving money to start a business in the future, but now we'd like to open up a joint account to put that money in and to continue to add more. Yes, we know the risk involved in opening up an account together and we're both willing to take that risk.

My question is, what would be the best bank to open up this joint account for us to save money in? Does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you!

    Franchise Net Worth Requirements

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 10:28 AM PDT

If anyone who owns a franchise can provide some insight here it would be fantastic...

I understand the big box franchises are not cheap to start, maintain and operate. However I am reading about the requirements for most franchises and they want "X amount net worth". What counts toward the net worth requirement? Would 401k qualify? Do they want liquid cash? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks

How to find an off market deal in a neighborhood I do not live in

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 08:36 PM PDT

Throwaway account because some of my friends have my main. New here so I do not know if this is the right sub for this but if not I hope someone can redirect me to the correct one(s)

So my family is in the process of trying to buy a small business (think like a convenience store or something similar) in a neighboring state we want to move to. The problem is we have been looking for quite some time online and usually there is always something wrong with the numbers, location, or the store is too small etc...

I am not sure how many of you have purchased something similar but it seems like online is not the way to go. How would you go forward with trying to find a business that is good to buy in a area where you are not familiar?

Those of you with multiple businesses, how did you know when it was safe to take on a second?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 09:32 PM PDT

I started my first "real" business at 20 and I made 6 figures last year at 22. I'm not overly concerned about money as my current business has great cash flow and my living expenses are about 19k a year. (I'm a tight wad)

I keep finding myself falling into opportunities to buy out retiring business owners and taking on a second adventure but I don't see how I can do it unless the business I buy or start will be run day to day by someone besides me. I have a guy I've been working close with to get him to a leadership role in my current business and he's not where I want him yet, but I also think I might just have to step back and let him figure some things out for himself.

I know this will sound insane....I'm not even 24 yet....and one of my biggest fears is that I will run out of time for all the businesses and ideas I want to try out and do in my life time. I'm not in a rush, but I just have so many ideas I'd like to put into action. I have learned there never is a right time for a lot of things in business and you just need to take the leap, but this is potentially a huge step. I just don't want to abandon the good thing I have going (and the income) but I still would like to own many other businesses throughout my lifetime.

How did you end up with a second (or more) and what convinced you it was the right move at that time? What boxes MUST be checked before going for another?

From being too wordy to simplifying the message

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 01:11 PM PDT

    Hi All!

I recently built out my website for a specific marketing product that can be purchased on the site. I am the queen of wordiness and I'm really trying to hone down my sales messaging into short sweet to the point actionable phrases. If anyone wouldn't mind any feedback on the website I'd appreciate it! Also, I recently purchased a few u/Udemy lessons for copywriting and it's AMAZING! I highly recommend these for entrepreneurs like myself who tends to get stuck in their own head - writing too much explainer info! :D

    Thanks!

    Small software bussines for sale

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 11:46 PM PDT

Three years ago I created the sortable table view for Android. It is available as a free version (open-source) and a premium version (closed-source, licensing model).

The free version can be found on GitHub and has more than 1000 stars: https://github.com/ISchwarz23/SortableTableView

The premium-version consists out of the library (with extended functionality), a license generation server and the product page (http://www.sortabletableview.com). The license generation is fully automated. The payments is done via PayPal or Stripe, then the license is automatically generated and sent by mail to the customer.

I would like to sell the business, as I lost motivation working on it, but it would be a shame to let it die. If you have experience in Android development and want to own a business, this could be a great opportunity.

If you are interested and want more information, just get in contact with me.

PS: I will only sell the business to a suitable candidate.

How can I go by a different business name than my LLC name?

Can I get some slogan help?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 07:07 PM PDT

Opening a used car dealership as a new branch of a 90 year old local medium sized family business. The dealership will be run by my nephew and I. Looking to develop a slogan that implies trust and integrity. I'm not very creative, so all I have so far is "From our family to yours". I've also thought about something implying that we wouldn't sell a vehicle to a customer that we wouldn't sell to our family.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

For a single member llc do you pay your tax filing fees from the business or personal account?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 09:18 AM PDT

In the past I would file my taxes through whateverwebsite.com because they were so simple, but now that I have a business I had an accountant do my taxes.

However the invoice came today and I just realized I don't know whether I'm supposed to pay it from my personal or business account.

Technically we filed our personal taxes, but really we only had to do that because of the business and so ethically at least it's clearly a business expense.

I'll try following up with our accountant on Monday but I just wondered if anyone had insight on this predicament.

Giving social accounts to new owner

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 12:29 PM PDT

My restaurant was purchased this year and I need to transfer the Facebook and Instagram accounts to the new owner. Trouble is, the Facebook business page/ user name is linked to my personal Facebook page, and I have no idea how to separate them without giving up my personal page.

I've googled and checked Facebook FAQ, but cannot find an exact answer to this.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Where to start?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 09:03 PM PDT

I don't want to work for anybody else, would like to be self employed. I have several ideas of what to do, just need some guidance from someone who specializes in such a thing. I'm looking for almost a self help person but for starting a business. My mind always goes several directions at once and I easily get bogged down with all the static.

What would I even google to find a legitimate person that can help me?

I'm also moving across the county in a month.

    Thanks
