Tips on implementing a bonus system?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 10:12 PM PDT

We're a small sized marketing agency specializing in SaaS (~20 employees). We're looking to implement a new bonus system which turns to be more complicated than we had expected.

We would like it to be fair, which means we need to take into consideration seniority, as well as responsibilities. Our goal is to improve loyalty and satisfaction in our team, without feeding any toxic competitiveness.

Do you have any tips to share to help us implement a bonus system?

    Business Partner

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 06:05 PM PDT

This is somewhat of a long story.

A friend of mine told me about an idea he had for a new product. I told him it was a great idea and he should pursue it. He called me every day to talk about it because he was excited and kept bouncing ideas off me. I asked him if he just wanted to partner up.

    We did.

During development of the prototype product, we both initially ordered/bought supplies and I would go over to his house after work to try and put together the prototype. After a couple weeks, he comes up with this other idea completely separate from what we are working on. Fair enough, I kept focused on what I was doing.

A couple weeks later he moved further away from my house, far enough to make going to his house difficult after work. It would leave only 2 hours for actual work on the design and 2 hours of travel time. I offered to leave half the materials and tools at his house and we work independently and meet on the weekends to catch up and fill in any blanks. This was agreed to.

A few weeks after that and he hasn't touched it. Tells me to focus on the design and drawing a patent while he figures how to get it to marked. Fair enough.

Months of working late every night and spending every weekend go by and he hasn't done anything at all. When we talk about it on the phone he seems unenthusiastic and tries to change the subject.

He's been reading, writing, learning to play various instruments, and getting laid.

I made a breakthrough a few months later, called and told him. He seemed to not care. I would tell him that this went wrong, or I was stuck on this or that and he would just tell me something along the lines of "Don't worry, it'll do well because I invented it". I didn't think anything of that at first but he kept saying it at least twice every time we spoke. Each time he would put more and more emphasis on "I invented it".

Fast forward a few more months and the prototype is finished and works well. He can't really offer anything purely because he hasn't touched it at all. I told him I was going to start working on the first draft of the patent. He said something along the lines of good, I really need to get on my stuff.

He did absolutely nothing except what he wanted to do the whole time, only now has he put together a list of potential markets. Only now is he interested in the project and specifically the patent.

My gut says I'm about to be kicked in the balls metaphorically. I don't trust him anymore because he basically left me on my own with it and didn't do anything he said he was. His insistence that he created it hasn't helped at all either. I just want to get paid, at least royalties. He should make something off it too because it was his idea.

Anyone been in this situation before? I'm not sure how to go forward. He wants me to show him the patent soon.

    Where does gasoline come from?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 08:55 PM PDT

Hey guys, how do gas stations get their gas? And also, how do the companies/organizations that provide gas acquire it? I'm assuming they sell to gas stations at a lower price compared to what gas stations sell it to end consumer in.

    Location ideas

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 02:08 PM PDT

Hello all, I'm interested in opening a juice bar that serves fresh juices, smoothies, health shots and açaí bowls. However, I'm trying to decide where is a good location to have it at. As in, next to other food places? A gym? Other surrounding neighborhoods are Asian communities so I'm wondering if it's a good idea to have it in those cities? Or a more Hispanic based community? Just wondering where it'll sell more and where more customers will come to. Thank you!

Hi there! Can I interview you for your thoughts on food ordering apps?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 01:18 PM PDT

I'm currently doing User Experience Research to learn more about food ordering apps and what could be done better.

I'm hoping I can chat with anyone who has experience ordering food online either for pick up or delivery, why and how you order, what challenges you've had and what you think could be better.

This would be no more than 20 minutes over a zoom chat.

Note: I'm not selling anything, just genuinely want to hear from real people to get an accurate picture of people's viewpoints.

If you're not interested in a call but would sill like to help out, this short survey is sincerely helpful as well, just please be as detailed as possible.

Otherwise send me a DM and I'd be happy to schedule a chat with you!

    Thanks in advance!
