1st Year B4 Auditor: Our jobs are not complex. What makes them hard is that the overwhelming majority of people that train you are not good communicators and you can not read a book or watch a youtube video on the topic if they suck.

Im not talking about the credits and debits, but job-specific concepts. There are no classes internally or on the web that define many firm or team-specific jargon or resources online that can you use to circumvent your insecure senior that is almost purposely trying to confuse you by his efforts to impress you. There are no classes that teach you your engagement's workpapers.

    Last day in public

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 07:37 PM PDT

Today was my last day in public accounting! Happy to be moving from an audit senior at $75K + $5K bonus to a property management controller at $87K + 15% bonus. I learned a lot from this sub over the last few years. Ready for some better hours and no busy season. Dreams do come true!

HR ignore my quit email...what should I do

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 06:48 AM PDT

Hi folks, I got my response from HR. Thank you so much for all the help!

————————— I submitted my quit notice 2 weeks ago (strictly followed the 2 week notice). After that HR called me and ask if I can remote working for a while ( when I quit I use the excuse of moving). I rejected. And after that, I have sent him 5 emails at least to ask question about the quit process/paper work. He just ignored me... tomorrow is my last day. What should I do?? I know my employment is at will.. I just want to make the process clear.. I am also super angry that the HR just ignore all my emails. I mean imagine what will the firm do to us if we ignore client email for 2 weeks.. but we are not client, we are just the poor auditor..

Accidentally wrecked myself instead of checking myself

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 10:28 AM PDT

Reconciled inventory for the first time in two weeks. Off by $1,094.50. Checked everything I could think of with inventory integrations, automatically created JEs, swore up and down it was the software fucking up.

Only to ctrl+f the amount in QB and find that I made a JE by the exact discrepancy blowing everything all to hell because I'm terrible at my job

    Never get too confident, boys.

Is the turnover in public accounting especially bad this year?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 05:27 PM PDT

Im hearing of an extreme amount of seniors, staff, and managers leaving the firm I'm at during this pandemic. I think a lot of people's mental health is suffering during this wfh stage. I'm hearing of a lot of staff 1 quitting.

I know there's high turnover in public acc, but this seems more than usual?

What are firms going to do?

Says my browser is outdated but I've tried them all. Is the CRA really testing things out the day before the tax deadline? Bold move lol

Edit: Seems like it's accessible through here https:/ams-sga.cra-arc.gc.ca/gol-ged/awsc/amss/entry?target=login&lang=en&program=pzaz&idp=cms But the main login page is still down.

Moving from audit to IB pre-CPA

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 09:25 PM PDT

If you guys were currently in audit at a big 4 firm and had offers for IB analyst roles, but you didn't have your CPA yet, would you take one of these roles? What if you passed all four parts of the CPA and were just waiting on the one year of experience for licensure?

Nervous to job hop out of PA into industry. Any tips?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 05:23 PM PDT

Got an offer for 77k with a 15% annual bonus at a small publicly traded company doing mainly tax provisions/sales tax. Regarding the bonus they laid off the last guy in the role during the pandemic, so I'm not comfortable counting on it. I'm currently a senior at a small public accounting firm making 68k with maybe 2-3k of bonuses annually which would most likely be 72kish in the next 2 or 3 months.

Tired of the hours and client contact in public, but otherwise absolutely love my boss, love my team, love the work I do for tax compliance. Benefits are similar aside from losing about 5-8 days of PTO. Sounds like hours in industry for the new job would be 45-50 a week vs 52-60 avg at my firm for busy season. New tax team would be me and a manager, so super small.

I'm feeling uneasy about jumping but don't really know why. The new manager seemed cool, the salary is a decent bump but not amazing if we ignore the bonus. I just get this gut feeling to wait it out and pass. Anyone had this experience before?

And for anyone in tax; with a goal of eventually making it into a huge company in industry, is provisions experience better than compliance for getting into a tax department of a large F100 company?

    Karma Payable

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 09:08 AM PDT

So I used to work as AP for a joke of a company that was struggling to survive so I was really good at dodging our vendors and being a collectors nightmare. Now I'm at a new company, doing AR and I feel like karma is coming back to bite me as I deal with others.

Burnt out first year audit manager here

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 08:35 PM PDT

This past busy season has been my least favorite stretch of existence in my 28 years on this planet. I'm no longer happy with my job and I really don't like what I see out of the senior managers and above.

My resume has been professionally reviewed and I've updated my LinkedIn.

How long should I expect it to take to find a shiny new industry job?

How long did it take you to find your current job when you made the switch?

How many hours a day should I plan to devote to the job search?
