What else should I be doing before I even start building my product? Posted: 06 Mar 2021 11:54 AM PST Long story short I've built maybe close to 4+ consumer based apps as a bootstrapper and they've all failed, basically I built things nobody wanted, so this time around before going into product development from the get-go I've done some reading: Mom Test, Lean Product Playbook, Lean Startup and have a very general idea how to go about what I should be doing before building. This time around I've done customer discovery mostly on niche forums and have gotten hundreds of responses and people are excited about the idea. Next I've spent time building out customer personas and have a general idea of what my demographic is, and loosely what they are looking for. However im not exactly sure concretely as to what there problem is and it seems alot of my target customers are looking for wildly different things. My issue is my last product had similar metrics where I posted on forums and people we're excited about the idea, however when I built the solution I got some initial traction by my metrics clearly showed that people did not find the solution helpful and realized after more discovery there was no way I could really compete with the competition, lost passion, and scraped it. So on top of validating it on niche forums I've created a sales funnel and been marketing it exclusively in niche forums via ads and my conversion rate is horrific, 2k impressions maybe 6 clicks, 0 preorders. So either I'm doing something wrong with marketing or my target customer would sorta like something to solve there problems but not really is my thinking So im kinda confused my idea seems "validated" in the sense that people have been pitched the idea and love the concept but when it comes to actually building a sales funnel I'm getting nothing. I'm itching to start building but really trying to stop myself and make sure I do this right this time around... before spending potentially months coding. What should I be doing to increase my odds of success with this new idea? TL;DR Did customer validation got amazing interest in the "pitched" idea, did customer discovery but still unsure what my target customers problem is as well as they seem to be wanting wildly different solutions than the original idea, created a sales funnel and its been of a bit of a red flag with 0 conversions. Is this actually something worth implementing, what should I be doing to further validate this is an idea worth pursuing? [link] [comments] |
Young Startup Embarking in Partnership - Tax Question Posted: 06 Mar 2021 07:01 PM PST Hi, we are a startup that has recently been approached about a partnership opportunity. The second party is asking for help with marketing including advertising on our site, SEO, etc. in exchange for a percentage of revenue. Since we are being paid a percentage and not a fee, what do we need to know about taxes at the end of the year? Are we responsible for a percentage of the taxes of the company or are we just responsible for the percentage of the amount that we are actually paid? We haven't signed any papers so if there are better ideas, I would appreciate the pointers. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Mar 2021 11:57 PM PST Hi, I have about 10 passionate people, and We would like to develop an app together. We are all students, and I am leading them. However, the problem is that we don't have a good background in app development. one graduate with a computer science major, so he is a little bit familiar with the development, and others are engineering has experience in coding, but not too much. I seeing about 6 months to make some kind of prototype, Since the app development is the big part, I am wondering that I should just outsource the make mvp. I am willing to spend $5000, and I am expecting to receive some fund from Univerity $5000(?) for helping the startup. I am wondering if you have any tips or advice for me. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Mar 2021 06:08 AM PST Currently I'm in my early 20's and planning to drop out of university (Software Engineering course), then pursue in other field. I'm not from the US, and I do have some ideas and would like to give it a try. Unlike US, there's no Silicon Valley here. So I wonder is there any org/company that help kickstart and support startups that has no funding and just started from scratch? Is Y Combinator is the one I'm supposed to be looking for? Do they support non-US citizen? Through online or do I have to be in US? If so, how they decide who to support? Is it based on idea and business plan? I'm absolutely new to this, but I'm interested to venture in this journey. Any advice would be highly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
