Leveraging an outside job offer Sales and Selling

Leveraging an outside job offer Sales and Selling

    Leveraging an outside job offer

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 07:22 AM PST

I work for a small SaaS startup I've been a top performer on my sales team, hit quota the two years I've been an AE here, and I have tried to bring up the fact that I would like a raise but got no where. A month ago I had a recruiter reach out to me about an opportunity for an AE position with one of the larger, more recognizable B2B SaaS companies out there. I went through their rigorous interview process, and got an offer that's not much higher than what I make here. But they're starting me at the bottom of the totem pole, SMB AE and I know it's going to be a grind. I have no interest in starting from the bottom again, I've been in sales for 5 years and I'm in a solid position to hit my number again this year.

Long story short, I went to my boss and told them about the offer and asked (very nicely) for an immediate promotion and a raise. Within a day, I had an offer with a 30k raise to my OTE and the CRO asking me what will it take for me to stay.

The reason I wanted to share this is because this is the first time I negotiated my comp. and leveraged an outside offer. If you have confidence in what you have to offer and you believe you're undervalued, go out there and get yourself another job offer and renegotiate!

Now I have two compelling offers that I have choose from, not the worst situation to be in.

    Finally getting out (vent/rant)

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 06:59 PM PST

Been selling since I picked up a seasonal job in Jcpenney selling suits at 16. I'm almost 24 now and have had it selling for selfish greedy companies that treat sales guys like shit.

"Review time! We profited x amount of money from you, thanks but we were looking to make x."

    Nope. Can't do it anymore.

Between this and dealing with sales managers who think they are literally gold, I've had it.

I start my new job as a commercial electrician apprentice 6:30 Monday. Completely new set of challenges but I'm so relieved.

I'll probably be back once I get used to the checks. But for now I need some time off.

    Looking for Career Advice

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 11:46 AM PST

Hi all, a little backstory: I Graduated college (BA - 3.9/4) and joined my family real estate business (I actually worked part-time during my last year of college). Anyways, the business was old-school and they had no systems in place to keep up with their old leads. Consequently, a lot of 'low hanging fruit' type clients were lost. Over the last two years, I have helped modernize the business and bring in new sales funnels etc. Right now, the marketing/backend side of the business is basically on cruise control and requires minimal work from me.

I expect to make about $50K a year for the next few years, but my cap is pretty limited until the older generation in the business retires.

So, I am at a crossroads. Before the pandemic, I considered applying for some remote inside sales positions, but I decided against it as there was still work to do in the RE business.

Now I am reconsidering it, but I'm not sure where to even start. I like SaaS, and have some web-design experience, but I also like the idea of selling physical products too. Just last week an old classmate told me if I wanted a job in remote inside solar sales it was basically mine, but I turned him down as it really was not much of a benefit over my RE position and after speaking him I realized the job offered little upside imo.

So, my question is, how can I best network to find remote inside sales positions? Unfortunately, few people I know are in sales, and many of the jobs I have seen online are basically commission only "you can make $10K a week selling xyz" scams. Thanks in advance.

Selling "no soliciting" signs door to door

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 11:16 AM PST

    Okay hear me out ;)

I saw a little while back that someone was selling those for 10$ each to people that would give him crap... ended up making an extra 5-10$ an hour. I'm just wondering what you guys would think if you were my boss. (I'm only half kidding)

Just to clarify I'm 15 and got the job 2 months ago, looking forward to hearing the responses!

    Best Female Sales Senes?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 05:03 AM PST

So, I now manage a team of female sales team and I want to sometimes show a fun sales video ahead of a team meeting, and while I was looking at the oldies but goodies I tried to find any female led ones also. I couldn't. Everything is white men. Do you have any suggestions of some great strong female sales movie/show clips? Do they exist?

I am very curious if this is the right client and should I also give him the phone numbers from the references I worked with ?

How to get into SaaS sales

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 07:16 AM PST

Hey guys, I'm a pretty recent college grad, I went to work as an assistant manager out of college selling paint. But I have always had a desire to put my feet in technology, I worked at Dell for a bit in IT, I used to do IT in high school at a votech as well but, but how do I get into the SaaS field? My major was in business, any information is helpful, or if I could get a mentor that would be super helpful to. Where do I even start?

    Budding digital marketer here

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 10:11 PM PST

    Hello all!

I'm trying to get into the sales game as a digital marketing salesperson. Im highly interested in the digital marketing game and feel like many businesses in the area can thrive off of digital marketing services.

Unfortunately I don't have the marketing skills as of right now but im working on it. In fact, im hoping that a salesperson for a digital marketing company will put my foot in the right door.

I was hoping to get some advice as to what to expect in an industry as this, especially since it is b2b and my experience is mostly b2c as well as any tips for a beginner. Ill consume any and all information thrown at me.

What do you do if the person is a user but not a decision-maker of your product?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 04:27 PM PST

I'm a technical founder of a saas tool for a specific niche within finance and realize I need to learn sales for my company to succeed so I'm lurking hard on this sub to learn from you all - thank you for all the knowledge.

    So here's what I'm doing -

    • I'm cold emailing people that I think would be a good fit/enjoy my product,
    • I call them and ask them questions. My goal is to understand their current state, pains and goals of the future state. I want to see the world through their eyes.
    • I take that information and structure demo for feedback or build features they need that are missing.
    • I have another meeting with them where I show them what I have and ask for feedback, often they love it.
    • Then the meeting just dies.

I'm not sure what to do at that point? Do I ask for their boss? Do I ask for other coworkers? I'm sure someone in the firm cares that this person's pain can be solved but I've never had a salesperson ask me to speak to my boss so I don't know how to do it.

Sales managers: what do you want to hear when SDR candidates reach out to you?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 01:35 PM PST

I'm looking for my first job as an SDR. My friends recommend I reach out to sales managers via cold email so as to demonstrate my prospecting abilities.

I'm not sure the message I'm trying to get across.... should I be overtly advertising my capabilities? Asking about problems they have with SDRs?

What would you want to hear from an SDR who's applying to work for your company?

Anyone Working as an SDR for Snowflake?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 11:11 PM PST

I have an SDR interview in 3 days with Snowflake and to be honest I am surprised they are even considering me.

About myself: I am 2 years out of college, generic corporate experience (business analyst). Communications major from a top Bay area school. Average grades.

My concern is that they might have a huge churn rate based off of some posts and maybe they think I'll just be another SDR to be used and chewed out. Assuming they hire me.

I might sound naive but I want to work for them because I like to grind and have been considering Saas sales for a long time and data is huge now. Also want to be in enterprise one day.

Any insight on Snowflake sales or tips on interviewing?

    Determining My Shipping Cost

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 09:37 PM PST

    Hello Everyone,

I am fairly new with selling online. I want to offer free shipping on most of my listings. My problem/question is I am trying to determine my shipping costs when deciding my listing price. How can I figure out what the farthest zip code is from where I ship out? I tried googling it and can't find a clear cut answer. I've found maps of zip codes but that does not help me. Specifically looking for the farthest zip code from 53186. Any input, suggestions, or help is greatly appreciated!

How to get into sales as a former nurse?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 08:35 PM PST

    Hey guys!

One of my friends recently quit her job as an RN at a hospital. She was working there for two years. She wants to get into sales because of the client interactions, upward mobility, money, and she would like to work from home.

She was severely underpaid as a nurse and worked long and strenuous hours so she has been researching sales and applying to a bunch of sales companies.

She has been interviewing and they always get shocked as to why she left nursing. It's been pretty challenging for her to get a job as an SDR/BDR currently.

Was wondering if anyone had advice on how to break into this industry from a former healthcare worker perspective?

Which order of companies would you prefer to work?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 08:27 PM PST

How you rank this if you had an offer from every company that relatively shared the same comp plan, but would set the foundation for your future sales career?

    • Amazon
    • Cisco
    • Google
    • Juniper
    • Microsoft
    • Salesforce
    • Tier 1 Telco (AT&T/Bell/Verizon etc)
    • VMWare

I thinking about this, and I feel this made the most sense

#1 VMWare (4 Lines of Tech Business / No real competitors)

    #2 Cisco ( Multiple LOB)

    #3 Amazon

    #3 Microsoft

    #4 Juniper

    #5 Tier 1 Telco

    #7 Google

    #8 Salesforce

    Named Accounts Resources

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 08:20 PM PST

Does anyone have any insight on resources that teach good strategies for Named Accounts selling tech?

I've read the challenger, fanatical prospecting, predictive revenue but all seems to be new business development

I'm interview for Tier 1 Telc Account role, they said I can only in 30-40 named accounts and that has me a bit nervous.

Also, is there a definitive resource for a 30-90 Day plan or a Territory Strategy Plan for this area?

I've checked the general readings and did some searches on threads, but nothing seems to be segmented.

What do you put as your LinkedIn job title?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 12:27 PM PST

Hi, I'm an SDR and I have to send a lot of linkdin messages. Obviously no one wants to be "sold" so I was curious what you put as your LinkedIn position to help build more trust? I was thinking business development might sound better? I would appreciate any insight!

Part time remote job no experience recommendations

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 05:43 PM PST

Are there any first time sales jobs remote and part time for people with no experience? Any products or companys that you'd recommend to start out in sales for a couple months?

I'm a junior in college majoring in information technology. I want to get into tech/software sales when I graduate. No work experience unfortunately. I did affiliate marketing and joined my school's sales team. That's about it. Would have been a waiter if covid didn't hit last spring.

    ATT B2B Sales
