Are there private student loans for people with bad credit (600-605)? Posted: 07 Mar 2021 02:20 PM PST My credit is around 605, and I'm already getting the maximum allotted federal aid. Everyone I know has worse credit than I do so a cosigner wouldn't help at all. [link] [comments] |
Questions about Cares Act Tuition assistance of $5,250 Posted: 07 Mar 2021 09:03 AM PST I believe my employer would do this as long as I make it easy as possible for him. 1) Has anyone successfully got their employer to implement this plan, what are the steps? 2) I know part of the requirements is a written plan document, anyone has an example of one or know where we can get it written up online? 3) What's the deadline for this year to implement this? 4) Finally it seems like both employer and employee benefit on taxes, any cons to this agreement? Thank you in advance for answering and hopefully this post helps others who were also looking into this program! [link] [comments] |
Take out more loans at lower rate before next year? Posted: 07 Mar 2021 08:15 PM PST In grad school, unsub loan is at 4.3% and grad plus at 5.3%. Have not maxed out my grad plus this year. Could take out around 30-40k in grad plus for this years living expenses (max school allows). It looks like next school years interest rates will be at least 1% higher. Should I max out the grad plus loan this year to take advantage of the lower rate? [link] [comments] |

I need my transcripts but my student loans got sent to collections Posted: 07 Mar 2021 07:28 PM PST I'm in the military and I tried to get a copy of my transcripts so I can transfer my credits to CCAF. I got a notification that my transcripts are on hold. I figured it was because my student loans got sent to collections. While I was still going to school I was set up in an automatic payment plan. When I dropped out they stopped taking the payments out and I didn't notice until it was too late and was sent to collections. I owe $3500 and I can't afford to pay that all at once. I have been making monthly payments for the last 7 months to the collection agency. If I explain to the school I've been consistently making monthly payments on it will they release my transcripts or do I have to pay it all off? [link] [comments] |
Tips for someone with massive debt under parent plus Posted: 07 Mar 2021 08:28 AM PST Coming from a first gen college graduate family and poor guidance from school, I have accumulated 43k in student loan debt under my name, and another 90k under my parents between a bachelor's degree and associate's degree. Made the mistake of going to one of most expensive colleges in the nation because "I had a scholarship." In my physical therapist assistant field, it will look like I'll realistically make 45-50k if I can land one of these job offers. That 90k is unfortunately my responsibility as my father only works and makes only 35-40k and still had plenty of bills. At least my wife has almost 0 loans, but she does not make much, around 25-30k Any advice on what to do with the parent plus loan? I feel trying to traditionally pay it will suck the life out of me. I'm thinking of have my dad consolidating, sign up for the IBR, which I believe quoted me at $150 a month. Obviously, this would create a really ugly tax bomb on the $225k forgiveness plus income in 25 years. At that time, I'd hope I'd have the money as my poor dad will be in his eighties. Does anyone have any other thoughts or other plans? Obviously, there's working more than 40 hours, but I'm looking more of how to reduce the loan expense [link] [comments] |
Income Based Repayment Plan while working as an independent contractor inquiry. Posted: 07 Mar 2021 06:13 PM PST Hello all, This is my first post/visit to this sub. My question is how do the federal student loan providers (Navient) handle independent contractor wages when determining their repayment plan on an income based repayment plan? Say I drive for Uber and my total wages are $50,000. My mileage and tax deduction lower it to $38k. Are they going to base my repayment on the $38k or $50k? Also, I am talking about the 20-25 year term. Thank you all! [link] [comments] |
How much do you owe? Servicer recommendations? Posted: 07 Mar 2021 09:13 PM PST Anyone else with a massive student loan balance? How much do you owe? Just curious if others have as much student debt as I do. Feel like I'm drowning in it! Any thoughts on which servicer I should use when I consolidate? I want to do PLSF and must do one of the income based plans. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 07 Mar 2021 04:51 PM PST Does a parent plus loan cover housing as well? I'm transferring from a community college to a four year but I'm planning on living in an apartment with my friend for the next two years. Would a parent plus loan cover those costs or would I need to take out subsidized/unsubsidized loans for this cost? [link] [comments] |
Can an international student get a student loan for the graduate program in the US? Posted: 07 Mar 2021 12:35 PM PST My fiancee is studying in a public university in the USA on an F1 visa and we are thinking to get a student loan for her graduate program. The fee is roughly around 8k per semester and it's a 4-semester program. I would like to know:

Teacher Loan Forgiveness: Seeking Advice Posted: 07 Mar 2021 09:53 AM PST Hi all! I was wondering if I could have some opinions and perspectives about teacher loan forgiveness. My situation: I am three semesters away from finishing graduate school at EMU, in their Educational Leadership K-12 program. Each semester costs about $3,000. I'm currently on my 4th year at a low SES school, where I work as an English teacher (it qualifies for teacher loan forgiveness). I am very privileged to have no outstanding loans thusfar, except maybe $4,000 to my parents. My mother is encouraging me to take out a loan to pay for these last few semesters and then have it forgiven right as I finish my program (at the end of my five years). I see that the loan forgiveness program would forgive up to $5,000, so it would be perfect for finishing the program. It seems like a pretty straightforward situation, but at the same time, I've never taken a loan out before and I'm afraid of getting burned somehow. I could probably make it through the remaining semesters without taking out a loan, but a free $5,000 sounds pretty nice right about now. What would you do? How would you go about this situation? I appreciate any insight y'all have to offer. [link] [comments] |
Getting Denied for Refinancing. Posted: 07 Mar 2021 05:39 AM PST SO has about $55k left in private student loans (he has about 21k in federal loans but isnt trying to refinance them). Hes been paying 1300 a month since graduating 5 years ago, only recently stopped paying for the federal loans since COVID, they kept denying that he had requested to not pay if they were not due. So just paying for the private loans is 950 a month. He has applied to a couple refinance companies, Sofi and Earnest but got denied by both. He has a credit score of 825, and he had to use a cosigner, he used me and my credit score was 760 at the time (both are now lower thanks to the inquiries from them). Basically they stated he did not make enough money to refinance (he makes about $44k before taxes), which makes no sense saying that he cannot afford their estimated $700 a month, but he can afford the 950 a month? His coworker mentioned he thought he was denied because he did not own a home. He thinks he'd be approved if they had a home to take from him if he didn't pay them off. Any advice on this? We're in the process of buying a home. [link] [comments] |
Should I start paying loans while I'm in school? Posted: 07 Mar 2021 06:36 AM PST I'm currently a colle gr e freshman. I know I'll have to pay them when I graduate, but I was thinking of getting a head start. I want to at least decrease the amount I have to pay, by paying some money now. I don't have much, but I get paid this thursday, but I don't have anything else do pay for, so once I out my money on my savings card, I'll use the rest of the money not on my savings card to pay off some if my debt.
