Posted: 25 Feb 2021 02:04 PM PST Applied at my local credit union, took them just over a week to hand it off the SBA portal and then had everything approved and funded a week after. Not the most knowledgeable but will answer any questions about my experience or that I can if it helps anyone else. Am a single owner LLC with no employees, received EIDL but not first round PPP. Are ACH payments becoming the norm? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 06:51 AM PST I currently route our trucks with a program from a logistics company. We get billed monthly and send a check. We are looking to purchase an additional software program for them but in the sign up they are requesting bank account info for ACH payments. Our monthly overhead is quite high so I feel a little uncomfortable giving out the info to my main bill pay checking account. Is this reasonable or am I being old fashioned? [link] [comments] |
How do you deal with fake one star reviews? Posted: 26 Feb 2021 01:53 AM PST We've got an old client who I am sure is the person behind all our fake 1 star Google reviews. They're all the same basic copy and paste review, from John A or Becky H, whereas our real reviews are full names and all individual genuine people! It's really bugging me because he's set up as many fake accounts as we had real reviews (20 each) so today I replied to one in full in a very professional manner. It's making me very deflated, and really crushing my spirit. I've contacted Google but they won't remove them as apparently they don't violate any terms. I'm very young, so am looking for more experienced business owners to give me some advice? [link] [comments] |
Where One Door Closes, Another Opens Up Posted: 26 Feb 2021 01:48 AM PST This is a repost, but it's because I'm seeking extra advice So, I've been working in construction for 10 years, and I recently quit my job as the company I worked for was bought out. Now it wouldn't be bad, but this new company is one you could describe as a "revolving door" type of company where employees just come in and are worked to death in poor conditions until they quit. It's not all bad though, as this has given me the motivation to go out and chase my dreams of starting my own business. I've always dreamt of a life where I make the crucial decisions and control my own destiny. It'll be a small construction company and I've even bought online courses on how to effectively advertise my business locally online. Any advice or recommendations on what I should do moving forward? I plan on keeping you guys updated as I move forward. [link] [comments] |

Other than sba lender match I can't find anything for car wash or detail, minority (black male) or even a grant from grants.gov. Any suggestions ? Side bar: I stated black male because I found multiple grants for minority women or anyone going by a derivative of woman even for native Americans but not black male. [link] [comments] |

Do you know smallbusiness that use remote-sensing technology? Posted: 26 Feb 2021 03:40 AM PST Hello, I always look for examples of startups related to remote sensing technology (mostly satellite images), but most of the ideas are always related to a regional scale analysis (due to the large pixel size) that could be useful as a consultancy only for policy makers. On the other hand, I also find that the businesses that are focused on farm scale use very expensive equipments (like UAV with very high technology cameras). So, someone knowns small business (I mean with limited resources) in the field of remote sensing that are not really big companies? [link] [comments] |

Your thoughts Posted: 26 Feb 2021 02:58 AM PST 💥 We're launching an online platform that's made for Freelancers to sell their services online. Past couple of months have been spent collecting early access sign-ups (Freelancers/Employers) We're almost at the point of launching and I'd like to get your thoughts on our approach :// Platform password protected Step 1 Send code to approximately 500 freelancers Step 2 Share how to guides + support articles Step 3 #3 Monitor for glitches / offer live support .....3 Weeks later Step 4 send code to approximately 150 potential buyers to access website. Apply for second PPP loan within 8 weeks of first loan? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 10:23 PM PST I received my first PPP on Feb 2. Can I apply for a second loan before 8 weeks? SBA website says I can if I "have used OR WILL USE" the money. To me, this means that I can apply before the full eight weeks is up but my lender seems to disagree. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Round 1 ppp accounting question Posted: 25 Feb 2021 08:59 PM PST Need some quick advise. Got round 1 ppp about $30k, all is forgiven. How to I account for the extra $30k of income? If I consider as revenue income wouldn't I have to pay tax on them? If not income then where do I place this extra $30k of inflow? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Is it better to brand yourself to sell your brand?? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 07:57 PM PST So I see two options.. 1) make social media's for myself + my brand, post myself and my products I have available. Which I know could be successful for me because in the past on social media, I had done pretty well. And I see the advantage of creating a community and then having people who may wanna support myself and my brand Or 2) just make pages for my brand only and keep everything separate? This I don't think needs explaining since that's how most people run their brands I could see negatives to branding yourself, sometimes people's brands have failed due to people not liking the creator. But I don't have anything out there life ruining like that lol. The products that I want to sell will be things I use or wear and style myself too. So another advantage could be modeling it myself and being able to sell that way. I just wanna know if there's any more advantages and disadvantages I don't see. Interested in what you guys have done and what's worked for you? [link] [comments] |
Business ending disagreement? Selling food product 5-10% over labeled weight?!? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 01:40 PM PST Me and my partner are having a disagreement, please weigh in. We sell a food product that's labeled as 20oz but our actual products going out are 21 oz at least and 23 or at most. They insist it's safer because if a product ends up underweight it could be "trouble." This can all be alleviated by just having the production head weigh the product and adjusting the settings ( one knob zero issues with product) What would you do if your 20 oz labeled products were ending up as 21-23 oz. we also are a wholesle manufacturer doing just about 5 figures per day They also say the product is better "overstuffed." 3 partners looking to start an Llc - Should we register in Delaware? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 04:35 PM PST I'm one of 3 founders of a consulting business startup that are looking to register our Llc however we each live in a different state (PA, NJ & CO). We're thinking of forming our Llc in Delaware for tax reasons but we're still trying to research if this is the best approach for us. Our clients will potentially be coming from various states, one of which will be Delaware, so we will technically be conducting business within the state. Would it make sense for us to register our Llc in Delaware or should we register elsewhere? Thanks [link] [comments] |
What Is a market research and how to Do It? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 02:27 PM PST Ok, when you want to start a business, you have to make a research about the market. But what you need to know about the market in order to say "ok, this idea may work good" ? How do you get all the information you need? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2021 09:45 PM PST I'm 23 and 3 years ago I put together money and borrowed some from family to buy products from Alibaba and start an online business. I thought it would be smartest to try and sell products that I like that think are great that way it'll be easier to sell them... without doing enough research I bought foldable solar panels, solar power banks, waterproof flashlights, survival kits, water filters, fire starters and paracord bracelets. I thought I would do well selling on Vancouver island seeing as it's a very popular hiking and outdoor space but soon realized I was competing with Amazon, MEC, and any other outdoor store that has much higher quality products but also dominate the market. My business is called West Coast Gadgets and I've had some sales on my site but most of my sales have come from posting on Facebook marketplace and meeting people locally which has been alright but it's hard to make sales... I still have a lot of stock and will do what I can to sell it but after a lot of thought I want to try finding products that aren't so saturated and something I can't test the waters with first before ordering a 100 of each product... I made a lot of mistakes and I will learn from those but going forward would like to do things the best way I can. What are some bits of advice, resources and tools that will help me the most when looking for products to sell? Any advice would be great! [link] [comments] |

Is this my fault or is this a bad client? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 04:20 PM PST Clarifying point: I contracted with the client on a per hour basis. TL:DR; Things were not made clear for me at the start of the project which resulted in my doing good work the client liked but with the wrong data. This resulted in me then having to redo things again. The client is angry that I basically double charged them but I feel I should be paid for all time since it was the client's mistake in not informing me of these things. So far I've worked approximately 50 hours and charged for 25. So literally half of the time I've been working on this project (I do count the time between August and December since I was consulting the client until it got to the point I thought I was never going to get actually engaged), I have not charged for and the client is still upset about the amount of money I am charging. Am I being unreasonable or is this a bad client? I just started my business last year right before COVID happened (sigh lost my first contract after a month due to covid but didn't qualify for PPP). Anyway, around July I was contacted by a potential new client because they'd seen me do a presentation on some work. We discussed their project and their goals and eventually it was determined we would work together. This was in around... August. Then for the next 4 months we had meetings to further discuss what felt like minutia. At first I entertained the many meetings and discussions because I knew I had to sell my ability to accomplish things since this would be my first long term project but it got to the point where I felt the client was just taking advantage of my willingness to provide help to "prove" myself. At one point the client was making meetings with me to discuss things further and was starting to include other vendors for other services to get my opinion on how we could use their technologies in their project. They were basically inviting me to meetings and then surprising me when I joined by introducing me to some other person to discuss something I hadn't realized we were discussing. It got to the point I told them until I was engaged I wouldn't take any more calls/meetings because I was essentially giving them free consulting work, hours of it over this time period. Finally we were engaged in late December and I started working. My job was to help with updating and moderating data visualizations and dashboards. We had discussed most of these issues so I felt confident I could figure it out. Essentially the old dashboards used one datasource and they had transferred the old data into a new datasource and then made an updated table with the new column names that they planned on using going forward. The client provided me with a ton of documentation on how their current queries worked and how their current dashboards were operating so I had a baseline for what they had so far and what they wanted changed but I wasn't made aware that on top of changing the datasource they also were changing the table structure they intended on using. The problem was the client didn't understand how the data was structured in their database because another person had made it but had very specific requirements for how things should look. The client also jumps from one topic to another. In an hour long meeting, I often still had clarifying questions I had to send them to make sure I understood what they said because they don't seem to think linearly. This isn't to say they aren't smart but just that they have a very specific design in their head of how things should look but don't seem to explain every single detail in one sitting, I almost have to piece together comments from 3 or 4 meetings to get the full idea of what the client wants for each dashboard. I think this on top of the issues I detail in the next paragraph are what led to these issues. I went through the resources the client provided and started making the changes I thought were necessary on my dashboards to achieve what the client wanted, namely keeping the queries more or so the same and just changing the datasource before making the modernizing changes we had discussed in our meetings. Things were going mostly well until this past month. I received a text message all of a sudden on a Sunday that all of the dashboards were wrong and were using the wrong data. When I looked things over I was informed I was pulling the data from the wrong table. To make things as simple as possible, basically even though all of the documentation and the old queries referenced one table, the client was expecting a new table, with new column names, to be used for these new dashboards. I was never made aware of this. The issue is now, basically all of my work had to be updated and changed to reference the new datasource with new column names, new querying methods, because the tables were set up differently, etc. The client is upset and doesn't feel they should be required to pay for the incorrect work. Basically, because we both agreed on monthly invoices, I have a whole month of work that they didn't look at even though I gave them nearly daily updates on what I was doing, that they shouldn't be required to pay for these things. I can see the clients point of view but at the same time, I've been checking in with the client, and giving them updates on what I was doing, and they at no point said that the data was to come from a specific table. Especially when that table is different than the reference info and documents they provided. We finally hashed things out recently and I basically stood my ground and said I can't be responsible for their lack of clarity at the beginning of the project and while I understand their misgivings, it isn't necessarily my fault that they weren't clear at the beginning of the work. The client then wanted me to discount the time I spent actually changing the table to the new table stating they shouldn't have to pay for me doing the work twice since I didn't clarify with them which data to use. My perspective is thus, all the documentation they provided pointed to using one particular table for the data. There was no point where I would have thought to use a different table for the same data, especially when some column names were different, some columns didn't exist, etc. I'm not the DBA for this project so I don't feel responsible for not knowing they changed all of these things and wanted the dashboard pulling from there. The client agreed to pay the full invoice amount. At this point though, I've worked more non-chargeable hours between August and December and with all of the meetings and time I've spent correcting things and having meetings to go over the clients grievances with these issues. At this point, I want to know if I am in the wrong for wanting to drop this client? From my perspective, I feel like I've worked more time doing things I didn't charge for (meetings, discussions over invoice grievances, fixing things and only charging for part of the time it actually took, etc.) that I would make more going back to my college part time job of tutoring than it would be to continue dealing with this client and spending hours doing non-chargeable work.
