International travelling in a COVID times

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 04:59 PM PST

I want to share my recent/current travel experience.

    https://preview.redd.it/w1in92rg5xj61.jpg?width=775&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14f3630b91b270e2f4ccf21361b712653bfd32d3

Many would say, stay at home, because you can get or spread a COVID disease. But, we have to remember that it is not a virus itself that has an impact on our lives, but how we react to it. I'm more or less agree that travelling for pleasure can be limited.

But, it is so complicated to travel even for essential business.

    And it is super bad:

    Not travelling - no orders

    no orders - no money

no money - no salaries and taxes

no taxes - no salaries even for peoples that force us to stay at home...

I can go on and on...

So, I'm in the middle of my business trip, and so far I spent 20...25h on COVID testings...Taking appointments, going to testing centers...

It is a golden rain for laboratories!

So far I spent ~550$ (3 different tests), and I will need to pay at least 3 more. Such a stupid waste!

    https://preview.redd.it/axxqbzuh5xj61.jpg?width=563&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=529f66e814ef612755a21fa4a1e5f373ad6ef89c

But the worst is ahead. The new rule in Canada! I will have to spend about 2000$ for 3 days quarantine in a hotel that usually costs normally would cost 170$...200$/night. Why can't I just stay in my basement? I have all conditions to do so. Even separate ventilation system with HEPA filtration. Again, this is for a recognized essential business trip!

It also brings plenty of new risks. For example, your flight delayed, or you have connections - then your test results are not good anymore:). It takes about 24-48h to get results and it is valid for 72h. I was travelling from Montreal to Idaho with 3 connections, safety for test results was about 2...3h. Lovely, right? Read more...

I want to start a second affiliate for my roofing company

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 10:50 AM PST

I started my company two years ago (January first 2019). We specialize in installing or replacing roof windows, either slope or flat. (Velux is the main brand we work with)

Business is going good. I hired my first employee in April last year. Second was in August, third in January and monday next week my forth. Then a fifth end of March. I still have to find the sixth employee and I am looking for somebody who will do the paperwork and a salesperson, because I'm doing all that by myself now.

The plan is to start another affiliate in a nearby city in January 2022, but I don't really know how to start. I'm just a roofer who is good at his desk and in sales, but business wise, it's a bit above my league. I'm used to follow my order book. I hire when there is enough work, so I think I will look for a salesperson in that other city first or maybe doing those sales myself first and see where things go from there.

Should I start another LLC or keep finances under the same roof to keep my financial power towards banks and big partners?

Is somebody experienced in the matter? All advice is welcome!

(Sorry for my bad English. It's not my native language.)

Any tips/advice on how to UNDERSTAND business? Where to start in terms of learning the ins and outs?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 01:05 PM PST

I constantly feel so dumb because I feel like people have almost a natural understanding of these types of things regarding business, finance, even economy etc. I didn't finish school unfortunately but I have always wanted to learn. It's just when I start I feel even dumber when people use beginner friendly terms and I still don't fully grasp the concept. The ways businesses run, the money and everything all seem like such a mystery to me.

My biological Dad was a gambler who now has his own (successful yet local) business yet so I know it's there in me somewhere but it's like I don't have a natural business bone in my body. But I WANT to be successful, not feel lame and I'd like to branch out and create something bigger, finally get over the learning curve and I want to start my own thing. I want to be of service of people, I feel like it's my role in life but something that doesn't come completely naturally. I have many fun, creative hobbies but throughout my entire life when it came to future career I've wondered "if we were to enter a massive worldwide crisis (I was thinking more in terms of a zombie apocalypse but yet here we are in a global pandemic, good enough) WHAT would be something useful for everyone". So I want to do something meaningful and purposeful. Also just to note I'm learning to code too bc it's fun but also I feel like it may come in handy.

I know this isn't an emotional help sub (my bad for the life story) and I'm not asking for that, I'm genuinely looking for ways to begin educating myself, I just don't know where to start. I appreciate any and all help.

Starting a branding business at 20!

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 06:23 AM PST

    Background:

I'm Eshani and I've been a full-time graphic designer and copywriter for 5 years now.

Recently in July, I quit my job to pursue freelancing.

Most of the leads I get, are from social media. (instagram.com/lore.brands) Since December, things aren't going too well. Qualified leads have stopped coming and everyone I talked to, had a different reason for why the leads stopped.

Someone said something about the current events, someone said that my own brand wasn't too strong. I also didn't have a website, so someone said, that I needed to get one.

So I rebranded myself as 'Lore Brands', AND designed this website www.lorebrands.co.

I looked at most of the leads that I got in the past 6 months, and most of them were lifestyle, fashion, and coaching brands - so I made a website/my own brand catered specifically to those people. I've read somewhere that if you target everyone, you target no one.

    So my questions are:

    1. Since niching down will stop other people from coming to me. Should I be terrified of it?
    2. What will you suggest I should do to get more clients?
    3. What do you think about the website's copy?

Any kind of help, any and ALL suggestions are super appreciated. I'm super nervous and don't know what's going to happen to me. All I know is this: I'm not going back to working for somebody else. :)

    Product manager question

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 09:32 AM PST

I was looking into product manager jobs, and all of them were for programming products, so basically softwares. Are there no product manager jobs for physical products? Or that's a different job title?

Also how does one get to this job position, what's the career path? I don't think there are any product manager internships, so how do you get there?
