Posted: 06 Jan 2021 09:43 AM PST Actually, she sells Chinese courses and couching, but still. She got many clients and it was annoying for her to scroll through all of the chats in messenger. So I made a kind of CRM, but simpler and intended only for Instagram. This contains a simple dashboard where she can create product positions, custom statuses (=stages), and prepared instant messages and extension itself, which adds some buttons near each chat where she can set the status and products of a deal. I'm thinking to make it public, but I'm not sure if it's relevant for others. What'd you think? [link] [comments] |
Employee put in two weeks notice but is now trying to smear and sabotage us. Need advice! Posted: 06 Jan 2021 04:33 PM PST To preface the underlying issue, let me provide a little bit of context. We are a family retail business with a small pool of employees (10 total). There is one employee that's been with us for around 3 years. Recently minimum wage has gone up in our state and said employee was waiting for a raise which we provided. The employee was not happy with the figure and put in their two weeks notice. Since that has happened they have gone and called every single other employee and talked about how everyone else is being paid too little and about how bad we are as people. Now, normally I wouldn't care too much as there's occasionally people who love to make a little noise on the way out, but this is especially troublesome as they are going out of their way to trash us on Facebook to customers and various professionals related to our business. I know that it seems like there's more to the story but we've honestly been very accommodating with them. We cut their schedule (at their request) to no weekends and only mornings and they don't cover shifts. We also have helped their kids numerous times with homework, school supplies, shoes, etc. We provide part time jobs, usually to younger kids, at lower pay as we really don't have much that they have to do. The employee is older with 4 kids. From the beginning we have always let them know that we aren't able to provide mind boggling pay and that they are encouraged to search for something better. I'm honestly just a little exasperated. Besides just outright firing them, is there anything else I can do? [link] [comments] |
3 Basic Things EVERY Small Business Should Do In Marketing Posted: 07 Jan 2021 03:18 AM PST Here's a fact. 96% of businesses FAIL within 10 years. Why is that? Is it because they lack problem solving skills? Knowledge? Work ethic? I'v worked as a consultant with small and medium sized companies for last few years and in my experience... They usualy lack BASICS. They try all the hot stuff. All the fresh growth-hacking techniques the big companies are using. They saw their competitors creating Facebook group so they decide to create their own group. They had heard, that webinars work great so they spend hundreds of $ on lights and cameras and they get no results... All that because... They lack basics. So here are my TOP 3 BASIC THINGS you should do when marketing your small business...
#1 - Create marketing strategy (even a simple one!)
A lot of businesses I used to work with had marketing plans. "On Mondays we post on Facebook, then on Thursdays we do LinkedIn lives and Saturdays are for newsletters". But it's a plan. It's NOT a strategy. What's a strategy? A strategy is a document that clearly states your marketing goals, positioning and communication. Repeat after me... Strategic goals... Brand positioning... Customer communication... GOALS: What do you want to achieve? Grow your customer base? Recognition? Interest? On this stage, you should make it fairly general - If You wonder if you should implement the new idea into your marketing, check if they will help you achieve your strategic goal BRAND POSITIONING: How will Your brand change my life? Why should I believe it? What is your brand archetype? How is your brand different than all the competitors? Most brands owners (other than FMCG guys) DON'T KNOW their competition! COMMUNICATION: How will You communicate your brand positioning? Where does your target group hang out? What language do they use? What language will you use? What channels of communication work for your target group? What content will you produce? I've seen countless companies that communicate wrong message to the wrong people in the wrong channels. Make sure it's not your company. Remember. A good strategy is:
Of course making that document takes time. But I promise you... It's worth it. #2 - ALWAYS start with goal in mindIf You already have the marketing strategy, then this one will be much easier. Always start your marketing activities with GOAL IN MIND... Why do you want to start this new campaign? What's the goal of this campaign? Why do You post X on your Facebook? Does it help your business in ANY WAY? Will it help you reach your strategic goals? Or is it working against the goal? If you don't start with a goal in mind, you will do a lot of things that are pointless and they will BURN YOUR TIME AND MONEY. I've seen A LOT of businesses doing webinars... Just because everyone else is doing them. No sales, no interest, no results. Questions you can ask yourself when planning any campaign or activity:
In short... WILL THIS HELP ME ACHIEVE MY STRATEGIC GOAL? #3 - Set and control KPIsThis one is huge... KPI = Key Performance Indexes. It's a metric that is measurable and important to your goal. You CAN and SHOULD set and controll KPIs for EVERYTHING. Your website. Your Facebook. Your Instagram. Your mailing. Your ads. EVERYTHING. Examples of KPIs for your webiste:
Examples of KPIs for your ads:
It's EXTREMELY important because if you measure it, you can CLEARLY see if the actions you are taking are generating effects you want. You literaly CAN'T see if your actions are making an impact if you don't know your KPIs. Many businesses owners try to do it instinctively. Do yourself a favour. Don't. Memory can't be relied on. Measure it, write it down and do it periodicaly. Only then can you run A/B tests. Only then can you optimise your website. If you measure your KPIs, sky is the limit when it comes to optimization. In the age when everyone and their mother thinks of themselves as marketers, the basics are more important than ever. If you have any questions, make sure to put them in the comments! Best wishes, Mike. [link] [comments] |
Using a commission to sell own products Posted: 07 Jan 2021 03:44 AM PST Hi! I have a small art business and make custom commissions. Recently, I got a request from someone who wants an illustration that they'd use on hoodies that they then would sell on their store. I have no idea how to price something like that. I'm not too fused and would be happy to just charge the regular commission price, but is there a better way to go around this? Thank you for the help! [link] [comments] |
Employee Compensation Benchmarking Posted: 07 Jan 2021 03:42 AM PST During my semi annual review of my employees compensation I always like to make sure we are not only competitive in our market and locale, but also that we are paying "a honest wage". Along with state DOL stats for different job descriptions, I thought this was an interesting source for some data. Never thought about how employees circumstances outside of their job description effect the 'livable wage'. I know personally, I take a lot of pride in knowing my employees are compensated above market rates, but this throws a bit of a curve ball. Would be interested in knowing what factors you folks include in your comp analysis other than prevailing wage in your local area. [link] [comments] |
What app do you miss in the event/entertainment sector? Posted: 07 Jan 2021 03:40 AM PST Hi guys, I would like to hear your opinion on an event/social app. There are 4 possible ways for this new brand and I would really appreciate your own take on this matter. 1, Guide: This app would give you a recommendation on where to go in the city based on your preferred style and music taste. You can also buy tickets to those events within it and communicate with other people during a festival, gig, etc. 2, Meeting new people. The emphasis of this app would be on meeting new people based on their music taste, outgoing personalities, etc. You would also see what kind of people are attending events you are attending. 3, Prepaid entries to clubs and gigs. You would pay a monthly fee and you would go to gigs in selected clubs for free + other advantages like free tickets or discounts on big festivals. 4, Discount app. By downloading this app, you would get a chance to win free tickets/discounts to gigs, events, festivals... Which way do you fancy the most? Thank you for your time! [link] [comments] |
Looking for investor for a fashion business Posted: 06 Jan 2021 11:28 PM PST Hello , I'm a fashion designer and I'm looking for funding for my business either individuals or organizations. I've been able to grow my business to the point where it now brings in money, all on my own and I'm now seeking investors to scale up the business and expand. I'm seeking $5000 and I'm offering a 10-15 interest. I know it's a small amount but it will go a long way for my business. I can neither get this loan on my credit card because that's not an option available to me nor can I get a personal loan, I've tried several banks because I do not have a landed property or a car to put as collateral, all I have are my machines and equipments used in designing and sewing dresses. I am a very hardworking and resilient lady and my goal is to be a strong contender in the fashion world. I can do everything David's Bridal's does and even better. Anyone with leads on investor or organization that focuses on investing in west Africa and would like to look at my business plan should please get in touch. Thank you [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 Jan 2021 06:20 PM PST Hi, I do car detailing as a way to source income while in highschool; I just made a Facebook for my business and I was wondering if advertising through Facebook is actually useful? Posted: 06 Jan 2021 03:51 PM PST Not sure how many people here this affects but I thought I would start a discussion, since there aren't many online regarding this topic. The new relief bill that was signed into law recently includes up to an 8 month extension of debt relief for current 7(a), 504, and Microloans in regular servicing status that received the 6 month debt relief last year. It's under Title III, Section 325 of the 5000+ page bill. Should provide much-needed financial help that a lot of small businesses need right now. If I've interpreted the text incorrectly, feel free to correct me. [link] [comments] |
PPP 2.0 Second Draw & Pre-Revenue Startups? Still eligible? Posted: 06 Jan 2021 11:17 PM PST Now that the guidelines have just been published and looks like ppp 2.0 is around the corner... can anyone help shed light on how 25% reduction can be established for pre-revenue startups who were eligible and received the first PPP loan? The guidance below didn't mention if investments from investors into startup is factored in...as investment dropped significantly in 2020. anyone else in the same boat? I read about a pharmaceutical company startup that didn't have FDA approval yet...so therefore has no gross receipts to show other than incoming investment. https://www.sba.gov/document/policy-guidance-ifr-paycheck-protection-program-ppp-second-draw-loans [link] [comments] |
Passing along price increases. Posted: 06 Jan 2021 02:17 PM PST So I am getting hit with material increases on multiple fronts which is going to affect about half of my product offering. In the past I have tried to absorb portions of these increases but I don't think that will be possible this time. My question is more one of mathematics. I have been told in the past that if I receive a 10% increase from a vendor that I would be losing profitability if I didn't increase my prices by the same margin. But I see my competitors continually react to a 10% material increase by taking maybe half of that on their own increase. In my estimation, my overhead to handle and package the material doesn't change, so the material cost may not need to directly equal my increase. Does this make sense by any measure? Or should I be pushing through an equal percentage increase to stay on top of things? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jan 2021 03:03 PM PST Does anyone have good alternatives to Google Pay for business payments (for professional services)? I understand that PayPal and Venmo can only be used for personal transfers and you can get in trouble for using them for business. I've been using Google Pay since they allow for business account transfers, but they're making some changes that look like they're going to freeze that service. I don't accept credit cards, so Square, Stripe, etc are no good for me (plus I don't want to deal with their fees). But I have clients who, for whatever reason, were habitually late when I only allowed checks, but always pay on time through Google Pay. Curious to see if anyone has found good alternatives for online payments from clients. [link] [comments] |
Are banks still giving out SBA 7a loans? Posted: 06 Jan 2021 05:26 PM PST I'm looking to make a business acquisition to expand my business and need a loan to do so. Also will the bank use the projected revenue from the acquisition as part of their formula when calculating ability to repay the loan? [link] [comments] |
Question about affiliate programs Posted: 06 Jan 2021 09:03 PM PST I have clients that I would like to become affiliates for my business. They are all for it but I have no idea where to start. Do I need to make an extension to my website for affiliates? Or maybe a referral code? Has anyone done this before and can you give me an idea of the steps that need to be taken? Thanks! Posted: 06 Jan 2021 08:25 AM PST I heard there was going to be another EIDL loan (this one forgivable)? This seem strange to me, but I'm wondering if anyone else has any info. It's definitely not the PPP loan. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 Jan 2021 06:06 PM PST I'm thinking about starting my own computer repair business on the side. I'm debating on forming an LLC or becoming a sole proprietor. I've been back and forth with myself about registering as an LLC and taking on that responsibility. I want to build a computer repair company that can possibly grow but I'm not sure if that's even possible in this industry with companies like UBreakIFix around. Has anyone gone through something similar? Advice would be greatly appreciated :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jan 2021 06:01 PM PST Hello, thank you for taking the time to read this. I am trying to start up a small business on the side right now but I will eventually need a good business name, I imagine and I am trying to create a great name so I can make email and Facebook pages to keep in contact and showcase my work. Problem is of the names I keep coming up with I search google and find other businesses with those names or something similar, some even in my state or area. How can I go about creating a name I like and not have to worry if I'll be infringing on another company or worrying if someone might claim I stole their name and try to take legal action. Thank you for an advice. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jan 2021 05:43 PM PST https://www.irs.gov/retirement-plans/one-participant-401k-plans Can someone explain this to me? My understanding: Lets Take: $1,000 in profit. - 25% employer contribution (maximum allowed, within limits) ~250 Dollars - That leaves $750 in profit paid to myself. - I then contribute 100% of my compensation as a self contribution ($750). What are the tax implications on the original $1,000 of profit if essentially it was 100% deferred into tax sheltered accounts? [link] [comments] |
