    Insurance for non owner

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 09:29 PM PST

Hello! I am from Minnesota. I recently got my driver's license but I don't own a car. I live with family and the insurance company asked them to include me on their car insurance. Since I only sometimes drive my family's car and it's insured by them, why do I need car insurance? Is there any way to avoid it?

How does progressive snapshot account for hard brakes?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 09:06 PM PST

I signed up for progressive snapshot and have downloaded the app on my phone. I've had it for about a month now and haven't had any events until today. That being said, it was a hard brake event, on the map of the trip it shows only one instance of hard brakes, however the trip summary claims that there were 5 hard brakes for that one instance. Am I understanding it wrong or is it a glitch with the app?

Can I drop vehicle from insurance yet?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 03:48 AM PST

I totaled my car a few weeks ago. Right now I'm waiting for my finance company to receive the check from my insurance company. I have signed over the car to the insurance company. Can I go ahead and drop that car from my insurance, or do I need to wait until everything is completely took car of?

Permissive Driver Crashed Car -- will premiums go up?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 12:01 AM PST

A friend of mine borrowed my car, got in a minor accident -- no property damage, no one else involved. But there is body damage to my car. I have collision coverage and I am with Geico. If I make an insurance claim will my premiums go up? I wasn't driving, so legally I'm not "at fault", but I don't know what this means for insurance.

EDIT: Also, will my friend need to be involved at all with the claim?

Thanks in advance all of you kind redditors!

    Unique SR-22 situation

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 10:05 PM PST

Hey guys! Used to sell insurance so I know a decent amount about insurance but I just got myself in a pickle and need some help! I grew up in Utah and moved to Texas recently, surrendered my Utah license and got a Texas license. Moved back to Utah temporarily and ended up getting a no insurance ticket on a car that I thought had insurance. (In Utah, a no insurance ticket automatically gets you a suspended license and a need for an SR-22) Fast forward, had a court date, MY UTAH license is now suspended until I get an SR-22 and pay a reinstatement fee. Here's where my issue is. I surrendered my Utah license in order to get my Texas license. Unfortunately(or fortunately?) Texas never sent in the documents to tell Utah I moved to Texas. I currently have a Texas license in good standing, with a fully registered and insured car. I haven't been driving these past couple days cause the holidays but I can't afford an SR-22 and NEED to drive. Would I still be okay to drive with my Texas license?

Does this insurance cover health related death?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 02:23 PM PST

Hi there. My mom recently got insurance through her bank (credit union). Its through Globe Life. My dad recently got his toe amputated due to diabetes and was out of work 9 weeks and times were tough with zero income. She recently signed up for accident and death insurance. She told me if either her or my dad passes that the mortgage (137k$) would be paid off. I just read the form and it says the following: "This policy does not cover loss caused by or resulting from any of the following: 1 Disease, sickness, infection, medical or surgical treatment of the same. 2 suicide, self inflicted injury. 3 under the influence of drugs of alcohol 4 military And the list goes on.

Sorry if it's a dumb question but, If either of my parents pass away due to health reasons would this insurance indeed pay off the mortgage?

They have zero savings, 401ks, health insurance, or anything.

    Flood Insurance Question

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 04:04 PM PST

Hi All, I am hoping someone can help me get clarification about a piece of land I am looking to buy and build on. The whole neighborhood is floodzone AE but on the lot I am looking at is an area that from what I can tell zoned as floodzone X (shaded X). Ive looked at the lot and the area is at a bit of a higher elevation. If I build my house completely in the shaded x floodzone and without touching the floodzone AE I shouldn't be required to carry flood insurance correct?

It is kind of of an odd situation because the floodzone x is completely surrounded by the floodzone AE, so the driveway would have to be in the AE zone. Would this require me to carry flood insurance for the whole house. From what I could find flood insurance doesn't even usually cover driveways. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im also attempting to post a link to a picture of the map from femas flood zone map if that helps.

My insurance ran out on the 1st of January. I had a prescription filled on the 26th of December, but can’t pick it up until tomorrow. Will it still be the insurance price?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 02:12 PM PST

It's filled at CVS and it's a monthly prescription. I was out of town and couldn't pick it up in time. I'm located in Los Angeles. Apologies if this is an obvious answer!

    (UK) Victorian back door

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 06:37 AM PST

Our back door is the original Victorian one with a huge key and bolt, it is never opened so it has furniture in front of it.

We're replacing the front door, so at the same time, as much as we love the back door, does it need replacing in order to validate our insurance?

If possible we'd keep the door.

Basic Question: I've went to the doctor and have seen a therapist a few times with my health insurance plan, and on the website, it says the insurance paid for the costs; however, I haven't paid my deductible. Does this mean I'm still eligible to pay those costs?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 02:21 PM PST

I'm just a bit confused about how the deductible works. I haven't received any notifications telling me that I owe anything, but say, if I were to drop the health insurance plan, would I have to pay those costs because I hadn't yet paid my deductible? Or are those doctors visits and therapists visits good and paid for?

Thank you for anyone who can shed some light on this. It's much appreciated!

To all the claims adjusters and my insurance professional brothers?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 05:53 PM PST

For a non vehicle related personal injury injury with the insurance company/company they represent claimed liability for the accident.

How likely do you think the would go up 3 times their initial offer to settle the claim before it went to trial? This is a extremely high verdict potential. Im just curious how high most insurance companies can go up past their inital offer.

    Auto Coverage vs Umbrella Coverage?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 05:16 PM PST

Up until a couple week ago I had minimum coverage auto insurance, which was 25k/50k medical and 10k property. I never really looked at it or thought twice about it. I bought a new car for my wife and decided to up the insurance. I upped the medical to 100k/300k and the property to 100k along with several other changes. After I made all of the changes it the website said, how about a 1M umbrella policy for $17 a month extra.

I am not sure what to think about this, is this a good add on for a young family with kids and mostly just debt and not much cash to our name? Sure $17 a month is cheap but we are on a pretty limited budget right now as well because my wife is out of work.

Really I question if my liability to high for umbrella coverage? Should I have less liability and depend more on the umbrella if its ever needed? Or is that nor how it works?

What if the nurse over the phone made an error?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 04:25 PM PST

Hello! I live in California of the USA.

Since 2015 I have been using PP (Planned Parenthood) for BC (birth control). Because I was either a minor or I didn't make enough money, I qualified for the Family PACT which means I payed 0$ for whatever I needed. The only year I didn't use PP was 2019 as I didn't need to use it as I was under my moms insurance which I just got my BC prescription from for that year.

I have also been a full time student since October 2015 - Present.

On December 2020, I got my first job as an independent contractor. For that month so far, I'm estimated to have made $3,500. But I won't receive all of that money until January 15th.

I ran out of BC and decided to call PP as now since I'm no longer under my moms insurance (too old), I don't have insurance to cover the cost under a refillable prescription. So the only place I knew i had a record for BC was PP.

I called and specifically told the guy on the phone what my income is every month now. And I remember that I told him to put down $3,800 when I was filling the documents over the phone.

Fast forward to today. I called to ask how much I'd pay for the appointment and for a 4 month supply of the BC out of pocket fully aware that I wouldn't qualify for the Family PACT. The girl on the phone checked for me and as it turns out I did! I qualified. I asked her to check again and she said that I did.

I didn't press the subject after she checked again and figured maybe I just did qualify.

So now after my appointment, I'm thinking that maybe the gut who filled out my forms put down $380 and maybe skipped a 0.

Would I get in trouble in some way when I do my taxes in 2021 for 2020 if it comes out that I could have afforded the appointment?

I'm planning on getting covered for Medical insurance as well this year, so that's why I ask if I would get in trouble? Or would it fall on the guy making the mistake with the forms I filled out over the phone?

Home Insurance - Liability Coverage advice/question

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 03:11 PM PST

    Hello,

I (18+) am renting an apartment with my mom. On the lease, I am listed as a tenant, and mom is listed as a guest (she is designated to live with me in the apartment as a permanent thing)

The bathtub overflowed and caused damage to lower units, why/how the safety/overflow drain did not work is still in dispute. My mom was not in the apartment at the time of occurrence.

I do not have renter's insurance at the time of occurrence. My mom has a homeowners insurance for a different apartment that she owns.

Can her insurance help in any way ?

We called her insurance and they said since she was not in the apartment when it occurred, they would not help.

But if there is a personal liability protection portion of her insurance, should that kick in if being sued (by strata and/or landlord's insurance) via subrogation or court? I am guessing this will only apply if she is also a liable tenant in this situation. Is she?

    Thanks

    Insurance coverage in another state

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 01:18 PM PST

My car is registered in Arizona and I have car insurance with Arizona affiliation. I will be moving to California temporarily (5 months) for an internship and want to take my car. I am wondering if I need to switch my car insurance. I was told that car insurance is covered in all 50 states so I am confused as to what to do.

Gifting my car to relative. Can I pay for her insurance?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 12:51 PM PST

I'm giving my current vehicle to a relative. We will be transferring the title to her shortly but she's currently unemployed. If I sign her up for car insurance but pay the premium (as in apply for insurance as her, but I cover the cost) will that leave me legally responsible if anything happens to the car? IE She wrecks and kills someone, etc. Thanks in advance. Location: Ohio

why would a company do this?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 12:31 PM PST

In Ohio, in case of non-renewal, when CARRIER has already mailed notice to INSURED, is AGENT required to do anything, also mail to client, etc?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 06:00 AM PST

Situation is insured, commercial client, has been obtuse, uncooperative, and flat out bat crazy in regards to a pending claim, including with claims dept, and FOUR different attorneys the carrier hired (and fired) to represent insured. Carrier is thankfully non-renewing client.

Are there any other regulatory requirements the agent must do, besides the carrier notifying client?

    Stolen vehicle

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 09:39 AM PST

Does anyone have any experience with insurances companies after a vehicle has been stolen? What are some expectations regarding their process for coming up with a value, and how can I negotiate to make sure I get full value of the car? Thank you.
