5 figure average ticket within the first year Posted: 02 Jan 2021 08:33 PM PST Little success story I suppose. Been installing car audio systems since I was 17. After being let go from a shop that I was an installation Manager at in April due to COVID, I started my own car audio installation service focused on high end sound quality installs out of my 2 car home garage. It quickly grew through attention on Facebook and google my business and I'm now typing this from my new 2,000sqft shop near (wealthy) Westlake, TX in DFW. Our average sales ticket is approx $10,000. Largest yet being $50,000. All during COVID. It's been the most stressful thing I've ever done, and at times it gets really scary with the amount of workload running your own business can be, but I just haven't given up and that's been the main thing. Don't have many people close to me that I can share my excitement with so figured I'd post it here with you guys. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2021 12:03 PM PST We've always dreamed of making this idea work for us, wth an ecommerce component to keep things churning for us in the background while we sleep and the shop is closed for the day. Any reflection is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Money saved, small business ideas? (AUS) Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:16 AM PST Hey all, I've been interested in running a small business for quite some time now as a 29 year old based in Sydney, I explored the idea of launching something online based but found it really hard garnering ideas that weren't generic to what's out there already. Are there any small business owners or entrepreneurs out there with some great ideas as to what I could startup with a budget of around 50k?. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 03:26 AM PST Background information my personal Instagram (700 followers) and art Instagram (300 followers) I have a Facebook art page too with similar followers. My art work has sold to both friends and strangers (Etsy) but nothing substantial to be say I'm making money! My plan is to start making stickers/prints etc (more affordable then art) - using my graphic design / art skills have all the supplies etc just getting ready to start but need advice on what I can do to promote it. I have tried Facebook and Instagram ads before but never really saw much of a difference on extra likes! Or have I been doing something wrong (how much money should I expect to put into an ad) I just need advice on all areas of promoting! Ps. I'm also available for graphic design work if anyone is looking for anything done in exchange for sharing of knowledge for a new startup [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 02:35 AM PST I am doing a project for school about the ways in which an export firm that has an automated purchasing platform would fare versus a firm without such a platform. The questionnaire has 5 questions and should take no more than 3 minutes to complete. If any of you completes it, I will be really grateful as this research will be a large part of my overall grade. Thank you for reading, have an excellent day! (posted Dec. 31st, reposted for more responses/visibility) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2021 06:44 AM PST Has anyone here received their employee retention credit? Any guidance on what to do if I haven't? I run a small business with a couple staff + myself. On my Q2 and Q3 Form 941 (haven't filed Q4 yet) I went through the retention credit worksheet and filled out the 941 appropriately, which resulted in an "Overpayment" of a significant amount. There are two checkboxes for Overpayment, one is "Apply to next return" and one is "Send a refund". I selected Send a refund on both quarters, but have received nothing. It is impossible to get the IRS on the phone whenever I've tried. I have read that Form 7200 can be used to claim these credits, but I don't want to fuck up and file that when I already asked for a Refund to be sent on Form 941. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
What keeps entrepreneurs from expanding? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:58 AM PST Hi everyone! Recently I am trying to figure out what keeps an entrepreneur stuck at the same revenue level for a long time. Let's say you are making 100-150k/year. What is stopping these entrepreneurs to push for 250k/year and more? I am sure that the majority wants to make more but why they stay put. All your wisdom is welcome. Let's talk about it. [link] [comments] |
Can a minor with an LLC apply for a Business Amex? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:25 AM PST So I'm a minor (teenager) and I have taken up reselling sneakers over the past year. I profited ~2.5k in December and I project that will be a regular occurrence every month. I am considering applying for an LLC (in NYC) in my name for legal protection as well as the ability to apply for a business bank account and a business Amex so I can spend more and profit more. Is that allowed? Would I be allowed to apply for a business Amex as a minor with an LLC? Note: My parents agree to everything I'm doing related to this business including adding me as an authorized user on their credit. [link] [comments] |
Need advice! Best printer/scanner? Posted: 02 Jan 2021 04:16 PM PST We have a small home-based business and we process a lot of real estate and legal docs. Need to be able to scan stuff that's larger size (legal, plats, HUD statements, etc.) and print heavy page b&w docs, as well as color. The print quality doesn't have to be great. [link] [comments] |
How to stand out as a web dev start up? Posted: 02 Jan 2021 11:32 PM PST Ik there's a lot of web dev businesses and I was just curious what are some things I could try to do that would stand out to clients? I already feel like I have a pretty unique and effective business plan. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
2 member (both owner) LLC stimulus bill question Posted: 02 Jan 2021 07:15 PM PST Any benefits for the above for a company with no revenue until 2021? Doesn't seem to be, except meal deductions. [link] [comments] |
Has anyone tried using generic paper or labels with netstamps Posted: 02 Jan 2021 09:02 PM PST Simple question. I have a dymo label printer, but I don't see any reason to spend .10 a piece for the official labels if a generic label will work for netstamps. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Jan 2021 10:00 AM PST Since i never wrote an e-mail in english especially not a business-email i had quite a struggle to get this together. The worst part for me seems to be the "We are interested..." but to be honest i just dont know better. A little bit for context: I am from Germany and i am targeting polish furniture suppliers. Any kind of help is really really helpful and appreciated! Hello, my name is XXXXX XXXXX and I am the Lead Purchasing Agent of XXXXXX. We are currently looking for a suitable supplier to form a long-term business relationship with. Our product is a XXXXX XXXXXX XXXXX XXXXX, XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXX XX XX XX, XXXXXXX XX XXX XXXX XXX. Attached you will find pictures of a rough and purpose-orientated prototype. Of course, the final product is supposed to look a lot more refined and of higher quality. If you are interested, we can discuss the specifications in greater detail. We are planning on launching our product alongside our website in early spring 2021. In the meanwhile, we are working on further improving our product. We are interested in learning about your design possibilities and ideas, so we together achieve the best synthesis between functionality and aesthetics. So before we order larger quantities, we would like to order samples from time to time so make sure we achieve the desired quality. To plan further ahead we would like to know whether you provide drop shipping later on, as in can you process, pack and ship each order separately to our customer? If not, what would be your minimum order quantity? Please let us know if you are interested. Many thanks in advance and kind regards. XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2021 01:41 PM PST I've posted a lot here about my family's drapery workroom, and while the business is doing fine and I'm grateful I get to work my craft every day, I feel like this isn't what I want to do for the rest of my life. My big passion is learning about heritage crafts and discovering master artisans wherever I travel. Over the years I've been so lucky to meet the most talented people, families who have thrived for generations by the labor of their minds and hands. I'd really like to provide a bigger platform for them to sell their products, and as an extension, guarantee a viable living for people who want to dedicate their lives to a craft in a world of disposable garbage. Given my background in fashion and home decor, I've thought about launching a carefully curated store exclusively for goods made by individuals and artisan collectives. Think Etsy without the mass-produced garbage, 10 Thousand Villages but with stuff that appeals to the current design aesthetics, or Rose's Apothecary but with alpaca throw blankets from Cuzco, baskets from Gullah artisans, and jewelry from the Cree Nation and up-and-comers from NYC and Detroit. So, I guess my question is, where should I start? Do I make the website first or buy inventory? Would a commission-based system be unworkable for web sales? What other pitfalls should I look out for? Should I stick to B2B and target sales toward designers and other B&M businesses? Is this something that's already being done elsewhere and I'm wasting my time? I've got a 15 year background in working with artists and artisans and acting as a broker of sorts between them and designers, but I've never done the retail or web side of the equation. My goal is to offer a platform for emerging artisans, or those who don't have the skills/time to sell online, to reach a wider market of people who are willing to pay a premium for exemplary work. I want consumers to have a forum to buy handmade products because they are beautiful and well made, not just because they're being altruistic. I want to highlight objects that are timeless and worth spending money on, and for consumers to be confident that their purchase is helping (and not exploiting) artisans. I know a venture of this nature is a minefield of ethical issues, but I'm willing to put in the work to ensure both sides of the equation are empowered by the partnership. Ideally, I'd like my venture to become a nonprofit that offers training or mentorship opportunities for the next generation of makers. I've been percolating this idea for years, but after this past year, I'm more motivated than ever to use my energy in a more positive way than its being utilized in my current business. I don't have a ton of runway to make this happen, so I truly value any criticism or insight you all might have. Thank you all and here's to a productive 2021! [link] [comments] |

Looking for help to revive a project with potential Posted: 02 Jan 2021 01:18 PM PST Hello everybody, I was reading a post about projects graveyard, and I realized a few in my portfolio could be brought back to life with the right help. I'll start with this, an "easy" one, created at the beginning of 2020, before the pandemic. I still feel it could be relevant, considering the industry involved (pets). Quick Description: The only portable safety car buckle for pets. How does it work: it's a stylish accessory that can be attached to any flat leash and allows you to buckle up your pet in the car without changing leash. Some Details: The product is made in China, patented, and the supplier can stock and ship them directly to our final customers (either single piece or bulk). Price for production and shipping worldwide is already negotiated and agreed (we do speak Mandarin Chinese), and the gross margin is approx. 60% of the selling price (PRICE – COST – SHIPPING). It is NOT drop shipping since the supplier required a minimum production quantity, so we decided to produce 1600 units, all paid by us, currently stocked by the supplier. What we've already done: we have built a fully working slightly customized website with Shopify with the .com domain of this brand, we have created the relevant social pages (FB and IG) and tried one Facebook Ad at that time, with not much success. Summer 2020 then came, Europe started reopening, and we preferred focusing on other businesses. It is a pity, though, because I see some potential in this project if managed by a person with substantial experience in eCommerce/online marketing/pet products. Have a lovely day! L. Posted: 02 Jan 2021 05:03 PM PST I'm thinking of starting a business to run from my home. I have a few options in mind:
Which of these do you think would have the most small business success? [link] [comments] |
[discussion] At what point do you stand firm on what products you sell? Posted: 02 Jan 2021 10:50 AM PST I just finished a profitable year (despite the pandemic and politics), so I'm planning for 2021 and did a casual "focus group" on Facebook for product ideas that I should add to my product lines. One in particular comes up a lot that I struggle with, and I think it would be an interesting discussion. I'll get into specifics in a moment, but the reason I want to chat about it is I think it falls into the "don't sell what YOU like, sell what your customers like" territory. The question is how do you find the balance of sticking to your specific market niche or accommodating customer demand. My specific example is that I sell safety products for dogs. You can find nearly any dog product in Petco, Petsmart, Amazon, etc. so one of my value-adds is that I try to sell only high quality safety products - or to be frank, I don't sell just any old crap that claims it's a safety product. I research products and carefully select what items I want to sell. In other words, I'm quality focused, not profit focused. But.... Right now there is one car safety harness for dogs that I carry that's been crash tested (and passed) to the NTSB child safety standards. There are a couple others on the market, but I currently only carry the one manufacturer that was the market leader. As you can imagine, they have a price tag to match, so many people buy lower-priced alternatives. In my focus group, I again heard people asking for lower-cost car harnesses or straps that tie the dog to the seat headrests, etc. I'm wondering if I should relax my "quality boundary" and bring one or two of those into my product lines. Those things tend to break in an accident and either injure the dog or let the dog become a projectile, so I don't want to carry them. But... the demand... Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
First Steps in finding a New Location for a Retail Establishment? Posted: 02 Jan 2021 12:18 PM PST I have the potential to purchase an existing business, where the owner is getting ready to retire. He also owns the building where it is currently located, which is worth considerably more than the business itself. Buying the business is feasible, buying the building is not. If I were pursue moving to a new location... what would be the best way to go about that be? Has anyone done something like this before? Any advice looking back in hindsight? Thanks in advance. Time-clock options without having a time-clock? Posted: 02 Jan 2021 03:45 PM PST I need a way for my employees to sing-in and out of work, but I don't have an actual time clock. Any apps or small devices you like? [link] [comments] |

Adding a branch to my LLC or start a new one Posted: 02 Jan 2021 03:26 PM PST Also posted in other subs I've started to notice an increase in the amount of financial and trading education I am providing and I want to have something in place to protect myself in case of, well anything really. I have an active LLC and I would like to add something to that so I can offer trading education and advice through an LLC. Almost like a hedge fund but not as extreme as that. I don't plan on holding large amounts of money and trading with other people's capital, I'm more so doing consulting and educating. Should I change my current LLC to include this new avenue? Should I start a second LLC for this stuff specifically With my current LLC - I provide IT/web consulting and content creation and have established clients. So this would be an entirely different realm from what I do now. Any other advice is appreciated. Thank you!! [link] [comments] |
What customer service/email software do you use? Posted: 02 Jan 2021 03:25 PM PST I REALLY need to move my business customer service out of Gmail. What do you use? I'm open to software that just does email, but also one that would combine all of our customer service funnels into one place for a reasonable price. We currently keep track of Gmail, Facebook messenger (installed on our website), calls, and texts. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
