I spent 3 years working the corporate rat race. I found the office politics and need to watch my words changed me for the worse. Having worked for myself since 2014 I've found why it fucked me up so bad:

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 08:09 AM PST

I believe nothing brings joy to the heart than 'being real'. The more I speak my mind the better life becomes. Having worked in an office job I could not do this. And later, when I created my first business I found I held myself back.

Honestly, it's no way to live. Let me elaborate on what I mean by 'being real' and how it relates to making money.

    Being real:

Nothing hurts the soul more than suppression. The holding back of your true feelings, thoughts and sense of humour.

This is why I believe the rat race to be among the most soul-crushing things a man can do.

I know this first hand. I worked in corporate London for 3 years and felt my sense of self slip away. The constant politics, watching your words, and inability to call out unfair play changes you.

I was lucky to get out. It took such deep unrest, fear and hopeless confusion before I jumped out. And thank god I did.

Seriously man, I've seen good friends become a shell of who they formally were. Strong-willed, original thinkers with a devilish sense to humour transformed into corporate drones who use words like "connect" instead of "meet".

There is one, and only one, reason people put up with this poison:

    Money

    It's not worth it man.

Money is supposed to be your servant. It's there to open doors to experiences and conveniences to improve your life.

Yet to work this way, to give up your youth, your spirit and half of your waking life to this shit is retarded

    It's unconscious self-imposed slavery.

Don't be scared of leaving the rat race. You'll find your way. You have my word, you will not end up sucking dick for a sandwich and a pack of cigs.

But there is a trap to avoid.

You can also work for yourself as a slave to your clients or customers.

For example, look at so many fake-smile gurus. You can tell that they're censoring their words. That they hold back ugly truths at the risk of offending others and losing a sale.

But this doesn't work because people aren't idiots. And to go down this route is (almost) as miserable as the rat-race.

I know this because I've tried to sell ebooks and online courses in health and hobby niches since 2014. And because everyone watched their words, so did I. But not did it feel like work I came off like an uptight, unnatural retard. (Seriously seeing my old articles and videos is like torture).

It's only since I gave that up that I saw real success. I can't pinpoint why but my guess is I enjoyed the work more. Which meant I came at it with more enthusiasm and this came through.

In my experience, excessive censoring yourself is not only a shit way to live, but does not make more money. Instead create a business that's somewhat fun to run. Obviously not every moment, cos that's not possible, but the more the merrier.

Hope that helps. In my opinion most entrepreneurs equate money = boring work, but it doesn't have to that way. And finally, if you also sell ebook and online courses be sure to check out r/internetmarketing. Cool community with tips and advice like this everyday.

How much does it really cost to set up an LLC?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 11:46 PM PST

I got a quote from an attorney for $1,500, but my Secretary of State's website says it's $300 for up to 6 members. Am I missing something? Is the attorney doing a bunch of other stuff, or are they just filling out a form and charging me $1,200 to do it plus the filing fee?

Pixar’s Soul Gave Me a Roadmap to Understand my Purpose in Life

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 09:25 AM PST

Discovering your purpose can be a tricky thing. You don't know what you're meant to be doing or how you can utilize your skills to bring value to others. So often we're told that we should seek to find our passion and work at it. While this is true, there's a little bit more to consider.

Pixar's latest film Soul delves into concepts like the meaning of life or how to uncover one's purpose. We are often conditioned to believe that we are meant to fulfill one purpose and stick with it for all eternity.

Yet so many people struggle to find that spark or purpose and remain unfulfilled

One of the things that I will take away from this film is the understanding that some of us may not necessarily need to find a spark that translates into a job or career. Sometimes it can be the simple things that fuel us like people around us or a pleasant breeze. We're often lost and go into despair when we can't achieve our wild ambitions or get that dream job, BUT what if once we realize that it hasn't fixed everything.

This is exactly why this movie is exceptional case study on all of these concepts and helps us think a little differently about it. I do a deeper breakdown on it here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnQtnJqIJIw

Definitely check it out and let me know what you think.

How can founders prevent possible future inactivity from other founders?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 07:53 AM PST

Founder [A] stops being productive after [X] years. Gets comfortable with the current income and doesn't contribute to the company's growth as it feels like extra work and stress. Other founders and the company in general suffer due to this obviously. What are the precautions to deal with this?

I understand that this scenario can happen whether you start the business with friends or strangers. What can all of us founders do in the infancy of the company, so that we have tools in advance to "punish" Founder [A] in the future. Is vesting the only option?

I was just wondering since my software can basically be used at any business, how to figure out how to find my niche. Is it just trial and error in finding different clients in different industries? Or should I try to pin point and then market to it? Thanks for any advice!

I want to create a nutritional supplements company. Is it worth it?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 09:32 AM PST

Given the complexity of nutrition. The fact that you must hire chemists and dieticians. That you need to have labs for testing, and for research. The fact that too many companies are already in the game. The quality packaging. All those can be deterent factors. I get that. But i do like to introduce some quite high quality supplements to the market. The complaints and adverse reactions some people will have are also a risk. Cause every food/substance/remedy in the world is contradictory with some people's systems. How should i seek the funding for such an endeavor and is it worth the risks?

In search of a new bank. Any suggestions?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 07:58 AM PST

Azlo is shutting down unfortunately and I'm looking for a bank that has no monthly maintenance fees and easy bank transfers (you know, something similar to Azlo). Any suggestions?

I'm always on the go as well, so an online bank would be the most suitable for me

Why I started my YouTube Channel

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 11:37 AM PST

Let me be crystal clear. I don't want this to be a post that promotes my channel or my business. If it feels like this, please let me know.

The reason I started this channel is a consequence of working 1.5 years with entrepreneurs and seeing so many burning themselves down to the ground while trying to make their businesses grow and flourish.

What I learned is that more than 50% of entrepreneurs suffer from lack of focus, extreme fatigue and burnout. Maybe my numbers are wrong, please let me know if they do.

Since I believe that focus and distractions are the main problems of this century, especially with all this technology around us. Let's be clear I suffer from these issues like everyone else, I just found ways to manage them in the simplest ways.

I am going to give 3 very simple ways to do it. They might seem simple, but guess what? Simple always works.

    1. Switch your phone on airplane mode or at least in DND while working and leave it in another room. It will feel weird in the first 3-4 days, but if you do it often enough, the results will amaze you.
    2. Close any tabs on your computer that you don't use for your current task(s) or projects(s) (e.g. FB, YouTube, Reddit). This is a big one. Once you get distracted, you're done.
    3. STOP multitasking. Another simple but major problem I see over and over again.

If you do all these 3 things for 1 week, and you track your results...well all I can say...it's a game-changer.

For everyone that wants to comment something like "It's the 12234234123 time I hear or read this" and "Yeah, everyone says that it's nothing new" or you just want to bash this post, I have one question:

Have you tried to do this for a week? Have you checked the results? Or you are just the next guy who jumps in to criticize just because you don't have anything else to do?

I apologize if I triggered anyone in a bad way.

    Much love!

Business decisions: To take on franchisees or not?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 12:29 AM PST

One of my businesses is benefitting from COVID19 in the sense that a couple of major long term competitors are crashing and burning due to poor cash flow. This opens up new opportunities to gain market share in 2021 but I'd have to take out a load of finance or take on a new investment partner in order to expand more quickly than our remaining competition.

An alternative I'm currently discussing with the management team is franchising the business out. There are a lot of advantages: Rapid expansion is possible with significant reductions in risk, overheads and the income from profit share is semi-passive. But we don't have direct control over the quality of service delivered to customers or staff morale in the franchised branches and our brand isn't so well established yet.

Thoughts or experiences? Have any of you made a similar decision and what was the context?

Advice needed on giving to charity (helping set up third world businesses)

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 10:27 AM PST

I'm someone who believes in tithing (giving 10% of your total after-tax income to charity).

I wanna find a way to give to charity as a hand-up rather than a hand-out (which is normally why I don't give to charity).

I was looking at micro-loans to people wanting to set up businesses in third world countries.

I believe this fits in with my world-view philosophy that entrepreneurship, commerce and free markets help jump people out of poverty and not anything to do with socialism or the government extending its hand.

That being said, I know NOTHING about micro-loans, especially to such people in these circumstances.

Does anyone have experience or advice they could share about how to start?

    Thank you

    Finding your first customers

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 08:46 AM PST

Most people that can code cannot sell. Most people that can sell cannot code. If you can do both you will be unstoppable.

So the dilemma is what to do when you can build the product but are not an experienced salesperson.

Sales start by having conversations with people that would use your product. That's it. It doesn't need to be difficult and fortunately, it isn't.

LinkedIn is not a social media platform. It's a database of people and their employment information.

15, 25, 50 years ago the only wany to sell to C-suite or VPs was by being in their network. Or within the network of somebody who was in their network.

Today, anybody can connect and start conversations with their ideal customer, for free, on LinkedIn, in spite of your age, location, position and product.

18 months ago I started a video marketing agency and all of our customers come from LinkedIn cold outreach.

    Here are some examples:

    https://imgur.com/a/5h2vJJY

    https://imgur.com/a/xFoEfFE

Now, of course, there will be people that say you shouldn't do this. They say you should be building a personal brand over 2 years and building relationships. And these people would be right if you had 2 years to spare and even then it isn't a guarantee.

Start using LinkedIn as a sales tool to have conversations.

There are 1 of 3 things that will happen when you start using LinkedIn in this way.

    1. They will be interested in what you have to say and offer.
    2. They will ignore you.
    3. They will tell you they are not interested.

That's it. Nobody is going to die. Nobody is going to cry.

If they tell you they are not interested, move on. If they ignore you, how do you know they haven't been on to your profile, clicked through to your website and made a note to contact you when they have a requirement. If they tell you they2 are interested then you can schedule a call/demo or close the sale.

I've been using LinkedIn my whole sales career (10 years) and it has worked in every single industry I have sold to.

You can spend ££££s on acquiring leads through Google and Facebook Ads. Or you can generate leads on LinkedIn for £0.

Happy to answer any questions about my process in the comments :)

I just posted a mini-essay to my Twitter called 'Finding your first customers', which you can read in full here if you like https://twitter.com/MrJakeHarris/status/1347925868316790784?s=20

    Books on Raising Capital

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 07:54 AM PST

    Hello everyone!

I'm from Europe, and I was wondering if there are any books about raising capital from the perspective of startups?

One of the biggest reasons that the EU failed in developing competitive tech companies in the past was due to the lack of VC investments in Europe, as they all went to the US. It is very important to be well-funded in able to compete whilst being resourceful.

I'm certain this is very important to know for many people.

Getting ideas as an aspiring entrepreneur

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 07:32 AM PST

Hello all. First of all thanks to all of you who are reading this post.I just need some advice. In the entrepreneurship community , I have seen people tend to talk much more about how to execute your idea and many people tell that ideas are cheap , execution is what matters. But , as a self taught software engineer I am unable to think of ideas. Is it because i have less creativity or is it really hard to think of ideas? And also I would be helpful if you could suggest anything to me about coming up with ideas. Thank you in advance

Had a Twitter account that would automatically rebuttal Trumps tweets. I have over 100,000 followers but no idea what to do now.

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 04:17 PM PST

I started a Twitter account this summer that would automatically give a snarky reply back to anything Trump put out on Twitter. I grew the account to over 100,000 followers quickly and was selling anti Trump and pro democrat shirts, hats, and trinkets. His Twitter just got banned and now my main source of growing this account and business is done. What can I do to continue to monetize this account or is it over? Thanks in advance.

Which kinds of large businesses are dependent on SHORT TERM weather forecasts?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2021 04:25 AM PST

    Hello there,

I'm looking to build a sales prediction service, and am brainstorming possible clients.

What I am specifically looking for are large businesses where sales is driven by weather forecast one to five days beforehand.

Examples of what I am looking for are for instance zoos or outdoor swimming pools. For these kind of companies it's relevant to know that there is a sunny weekend coming op.

Examples of what I am not looking for are for instance gardening stores. For these stores a sunny weekend might be relevant, but they know they can sell all summer. So they not necessarily need to predict sales for next weekend, but rather on monthly base.

    Get the difference?

Hope you guys could give me some input.

PS: I'm also not looking for small businesses like restaurants.

How do you prevent mass abandonment of startups?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 11:52 PM PST

Hey, so I'm in a current position where nearly all of my co founders have decided to jump ship on the current startup I'm working on. I'm no stranger to this as the same thing has happened twice before (on other startups).

And I want to know what kind of system, values, etc can be implemented from the start in order to prevent future cases of this catastrophe. As it stands now the current startup is most likely going to fail, I've accepted that. But then again what should/could I do in order to prevent this problem from occurring?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
