On what I assume will be the first day back for many, if not most of us here, just wanted to send a quick note to say good luck to you all! Hoping you all get the successes you're after this year!

Has anyone been through Oracle's class of business development representative program?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 05:00 AM PST

I'm wondering if anyone went through the program. What was the interview process like? What did you do after the program? What was the base pay and OTE like? Did you get an individual mentor(s)? Did you feel like the program trained you well? Did you feel that the program set you up well for jumping into new companies for higher pay? How much quota did you hit during your time in the program?

I was contacted by a recruiter for their class of program (business development rep) and I want to know what I can do best to prepare myself for the interview so that I can get an offer. Thanks

Would you consider a salesjob if you only get paid a commission of the profit of your sales?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 10:49 AM PST

    Hey /r/sales,

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. Let me briefly introduce myself. I am Simon, I live in Amsterdam (Hence my username) and am the owner of an agency. We create custom websites and help companies with their online marketing. We are doing quite well, we have a growing group of returning customers but I want to (and we can) grow faster.

We are considering hiring a sales team. A business partner of mine suggested to reward the sales team based on their performance. He also stated it should be OK to pay the SDR a certain % commission of the profit of a deal.

E.g. the sale is valued at 10000. Our costs are 3500. The commission is paid over the 6500 that is left.

In all fairness, I think this type of commission should be high, as our risk is much lower than in other types of reward structures.

What are your thoughts on this? Is it common? Would you do it? Why or why not?

Thanks again in advance! Your replies are extremely valuable to me.

    When to stop calling?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 02:39 PM PST

Hi all, another silly question from me.

Context: I'm the Assistant Director at a tutoring center. We sell monthly packages of in-person instruction. Interested parents fill out an information request form and I call them until they either register or block me.

I have people I've been calling since last June. My list of calls I make daily is ridiculous. Should I have an expiration date? If someone picks up and hangs up on me after I say where I'm calling from, should I stop calling? What's the line?

    Thanks again for your help!

Question about Account Management/Sales for career change

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 03:01 PM PST

Hello all - hopefully this is the correct sub for this post!

I've worked in Luxury Hotels for the past 7+ years mostly in operations with a recent transition into Sales. The majority of my experience has been spent handling VIP guests that would book our property. I'd handle the booking, the arrival, & the overall experience of the stay from start to finish. I basically made sure every department was up to speed on how to handle their day to day tasks to ensure the client was happy. If they weren't, it was me the client was calling. These are some of the wealthiest people in the world with very high expectations.

I was interested in sales so I made a transition into a coordinator position at my hotel where I assisted the sales managers in whatever territory they were handling. It was mostly sales support but I did do some prospecting and was able to build relationships in that short time. This was all pre-covid, as I've been on furlough since March.

As much as I've enjoyed sales I really think my strong suit would be more account management. I'm good at building relationships and making sure things run smoothly with some upselling/cross-selling mixed in. Any ideas on jobs and/or industries out there that would be a good fit for such skills? Are there other job titles that do this besides just account manager? I'm looking to make a permanent transition out of luxury hotels. Any help would be appreciated!

41 state worker, but want to jump to sales...smart or midlife crisis impulsivity?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 12:11 PM PST

Hey everyone, appreciate any help/suggestions you can provide.

Background: Little advice or guidance growing up, so I went to university and got a degree, got a State Job in CA as an analyst by 25, and had a family, worked, and capped out pretty quickly at approximately 6K/month plus benefits & future pension.

At 35 I had more time on my hands with kids getting older, trained to be a life coach and really loved that I can get back what I put into the job, as far as success with clients, referrals, positive reviews, charge higher prices, etc. I have to sell myself and my services at the consultation coaching, but cold calls when I started out door to door was so hard! I think I got one client out of about 200-300 doors knocked. But I got good at taking rejection. I went online and use ads etc now so I found my time is better spent and returns much higher using online ads. I do the coaching job on top of my regular 40hr job.

Anyhow, my state job is at a dead end other than middle management, but the extra money isn't worth the effort at this time as I'm doing pretty good with coaching and actually love the work.

With the recent California fires, general poor air quality, and overall disrepair of the county, we'd rather move out of state. I'd like to be compensated for my hustle, for my skills, for my work, rather than just paid the same as the other state worker guy who doesn't give a crap and does crap work. I will lose out on retirement but I'd need to slog it out for another 15 years to retire with a good solid pension, which is not very exciting.

I don't want to do more civil service work. I want to sell and hustle, stay happy, positive, focused, and do my best. Not sit in a cube going through the motions. Life is short.

I see that Texas is booming for new housing developments and influx of population, air quality there is good now, but will worsen most likely over the next 10 years. But it seems like a place to make some money right now and save/invest it to make up for pension. Any ideas on sales jobs? Solar, new home sales rep and transition to real estate, etc. I'm not sure what would be best, as I've never done sales for any other products except for my coaching services. The better I know the products and the needs/pain of my prospective buyers, the better I will be at any sales job I go into. But I got to hustle and keep a winning attitude.

    Appreciate any feedback. Thank you!
