Explain why its bad to sit on cash right now

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 05:34 PM PST

I've got a lot of money sitting in cash right now, I look at several indiciators, Schiller PE ratio, S&P500 PE ratio, interest rates; all I can see is a bubble. Even if my stocks did manage to go up 20% theres a high probability that inevitably it will return to something normal, at say a 20x PE ratio. Can someone explain why all indicators are wrong, and that time in the market is better than timing the market, what upside am I missing here?

    https://www.multpl.com/s-p-500-pe-ratio

    https://www.multpl.com/shiller-pe

    https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/interest-rate

I'm just looking for some contrarian positions here, perhaps something to snap me out of my fears, some historic information that says sitting on a total market bubble has payed off in the past. It goes against everything I've learned and to which I might advise someone else, and yet here I am doing it.

    Selling Strategy

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 06:43 AM PST

Curious what strategies people use to determine when they sell? Do you have a fixed price you'll sell at, or a different process to determine what you think the high point is for a stock?

Why is SQQQ a fraction of what it was 5 years ago and what is its destiny?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 02:35 PM PST

I bought some SQQQ through recent months and weeks suspecting there would be a Nasdaq dip following the election or vaccine news. What I don't understand is why there is an almost constant downward trend from $500 to $16 per share. Will the shares someday just become worthless?

E*TRADE account showing wrong balance, ~$15k higher than it should be. What could cause this?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 02:11 PM PST

Portfolio showing ~$15k more than balance on Friday?

My portfolio is showing my balance as about $15k higher than it was around close on Friday. Wondering if this was a glitch, couldn't find and stock splits or anything that could confuse the system though. Didn't see any activity that would explain this, just about a $1200 gain from Friday, but no new activity or cash. Anyone ever have this problem?

    Daily Portfolio email newsletter

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 11:00 AM PST

Is there a service out there that can send me a daily email with news and performance data, customized to my portfolio? I am getting ready to deploy and internet isn't always the best. Email works pretty good though. It would be nice to be able to keep an eye on my stuff without having to log in to a website that could take forever to load. Thanks in advance.

    $DADA Diluting stocks

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 06:23 AM PST

Here I own a few stocks in $DADA bought at 49$ (currently down 11%), and I've never owned a stock that is diluting its shares. Does anyone have any advice, any actions I should take? What might the stock price be in 1-2 weeks? Should I sell or hold? Should I buy the drop? Thanks for all comments in advance :)

    Help on retailler stocks

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 06:16 AM PST

I'm looking into buying between walmart, costco and target.

Walmart and target seem like great stocks, revenues grow much and they all actively try to expand.

Walmart expands on pharmacy business and target is reaching out in small neighborhood to be more accessible. Both of these companies seem like to use internet to their best capacity. Costco on the otherhand seems to not reaching out to more public by taking membership strategy.

When it comes to stats, Costco has the highest EPS at 10 dollar and two times more PE ratio than WMT and TGT. This makes me reluctant to buy it.

I'm thinking of buying WMT, TGT at the same time. What do you guys think? Do you think it's still a good idea buying a offline retailer stock while AMZN keeps growing much and expanding?

I have never visited one of these stores since I don't live in US. Please share some of your experiences from the customer point of view.

You can only have 10 or less stocks in your portfolio. Which 10 companies are you choosing and why? (Limit a stock explanation to one sentence per company) DISCUSSION

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 10:36 AM PST

Hey r/StockMarket, thought this could create an interesting conversation.

Charlie Munger is credited with having said:

    • "The whole secret of investment is to find places where it's safe and wise to non-diversify. It's just that simple. Diversification is for the know-nothing investor; it's not for the professional."
    • "The idea that very smart people with investment skills should have hugely diversified portfolios is madness. It's a very conventional madness. And it's taught in all the business schools. But they're wrong."
    • "Our investment style has been given a name - focus investing, which implies ten holdings, not one hundred or four hundred."

If you were to concentrate, or rather, if you are concentrating your investments, what are you holding and why?

BEAM-101 Data Highlight Precision of Base Editor with No Off-Target Editing Observed; Will Support Planned IND Submission in the Second Half of 2021

In Vivo Data from Makassar Base Editing Program Demonstrate Long-term Engraftment and Editing Retention at 16 Weeks

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Dec. 05, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Beam Therapeutics Inc. (Nasdaq: BEAM), a biotechnology company developing precision genetic medicines through base editing, today announced that updated data from the company's complementary base editing approaches to treat hemoglobinopathies are being presented during poster sessions at the 62nd American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting and Exposition (ASH 2020). The meeting is being held virtually December 5-8, 2020.

"Base editing is ideally suited to precisely edit the genetic mutations that cause disease without disrupting any other part of the genome," said Giuseppe Ciaramella, Ph.D., president and chief scientific officer of Beam. "The new data for BEAM-101 highlight the precise targeting of our base editor with no off-target editing observed and will support our planned Investigational New Drug application submission in the second half of 2021. In addition, the in vivo proof of concept data presented from an early version of our Makassar base editor demonstrate robust engraftment after 16 weeks. Our final editor from this program, BEAM-102, has achieved even higher levels of editing of the sickle mutation. In aggregate, today's data support the opportunity for our base editors to offer potentially disease-modifying treatments for people with sickle cell disease, which affects nearly 100,000 Americans and millions worldwide."

Looking for best app for beginner for short term returns?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 07:31 AM PST

Hi everyone I'm looking for the best app to start trading. Just because its most convenient to do on my phone. I'd also be open to a desktop site that I can use on my computer. I'd be willing to invest a few hundred dollars to start. I'm looking for short term returns even if that means they are small. I just want consistency, which I am aware is difficult to achieve in this market. Where should I start? Any and all advice is welcome.

    FZROX -.30% yesterday

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 05:52 AM PST

How did FZROX go down by .30% yesterday when the market went clearly up and their other stocks like FXAIX went up by .89%? Usually I just let things ride out and accept that some market funds have good days and bad days but that's a whole percentage point difference in performance compared to this specific fund and the general market performance..

Upcoming IPOs: AirBnb, DoorDash, Roblox, Wish

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 03:23 PM PST

Hey everyone, we will see some sweet IPOs in the near future. These companies are very interesting and I'm sure they can possibly bring nice opportunities on the table. These are not your usual startups but established companies that have operating for years and that could for now withstand hard blows like COVID (looking at you AirBnb).

I wanted to know what your thoughts on these upcoming IPOs are, if you will be taking positions in any of them and if not why you choose to stay away from them.

Shameless plug: I have recently made a video on these upcoming IPOs, where I make a brief analysis of each company and explain pros and cons of investing in each one. It's not very long, if you decide to watch it and let me know what you think about it I'd be really happy since I'm just starting out.

    Question on synthetic covered calls

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 09:43 AM PST

    Hello everyone,

I'm trying to work this out in my brain and could use some help.

If I'm planning on a synthetic call strategy, wouldn't I need to have the necessary funds to buy the underlying shares in any event? And if I would need the necessary funds to buy the shares in any event, why not just buy the shares and sell calls?

Hypo: I buy 1 aapl ITM leap and start selling calls against it. I get assigned on my covered call. Wouldn't I then need to close my leap, buy the shares, and then sell them? This sounds like I would always need to have the capital in case I get assigned on my call.

Am I missing something in this analysis? Why not just buy the shares if I have the capital in any event?

Thanks in advance for your help.
