Friends want to start trucking company.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 06:00 PM PST

My friends want to start a trucking company. One is located in Kansas and the other in North Carolina. Can anyone explain or have suggestions for why this is a good or bad idea? I've been worried for them because they don't have experience in business let alone trucking.

I imagine the market is already quite saturated.

Anyone happen to know? CA Relief Grant and mismatched bank account names?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 02:33 AM PST

Looking for a confirmation on this, yes or no.

I'm filling out the Ca Relief Grant on Lendisy website and my chase business checking account is under a difference name to my current business (I reused my already established account after I closed my first). I'm worried since it doesn't match my current company name it won't work. Anyone can confirm yes or no?

Or is anyone dealing with this and applying anyway?

I plan on contacting my local chase to see if possible to change my account name but I've read that's quite difficult but I'll try. In the mean time, any advice would be awesome! ty

retirement funds has to be from a paycheck??

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 09:10 AM PST

just found out that for my solo 401k account all funds must be deposited directly from either employer, sole sole proprietorship , etc , otherwise they see that funds as a trust fund/borrowed money instead.

so im self employed, sole proprietor. i had open a solo 401k account, connected to my bank account. however they won't allow me to transfer funds, so i had open a seperate personal brokerage account and then had it transfer over. however they disallowed that so at this point how do prove that money is coming from the business and they allow my bank funds to directly go into my 401k?

i don't get paychecks. all money goes into my paypal which then goes to my bank. but bank dont provide checks, so im loss on what to do.

they say check written from your outside bank account

Do I need a newspaper ad for a DBA if I’m already doing business under the assumed name?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 10:51 PM PST

I'm looking into registering my fictitious name (DBA) and the requirement in my state is that you publish an ad in the local newspaper that ties your name to this new business name. An accountant advised me that this is only if you are using this name for the first time, however I've been using this name on Etsy to make sales so I've already been doing business as this name.. does that mean I don't have to run a newspaper ad? Also they don't ask for proof but it says that registering for a DBA certifies that you ran the ad. Seems like an outdated practice but ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Jack of all trades, but a master of none. Any suggestions or ideas on starting a small business to break out of the 9-5 rat race?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 10:51 PM PST

Hey, As you see in the title, I'm talented but have never mastered a true talent. I'm an educator and I love what I do but I'd like to start a business in a different area besides education.

Ive started a mom blog but I'm not sure of how to grow it. I've signed up for blogging courses and I'm taking those. I'm unsure if I'll make money blogging. I'd like to believe I can but I'm not sure. It's a parenting blog.

I was wondering if any small business owners could advise some business ideas.

Edit : I do not want to do anything with education. I often get told to tutor. I have tutored before but it feels like I can never escape work. I just would love to do something else.

Also, I don't have a passion about anything in particular. I can do a little of everything but nothing great; however, I'm my biggest critic.

    SBA 7a 504 Coverage

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 02:43 PM PST

Does the newest stimulus Bill have the same 6 month automatic loan payments for existing SBA serviced 7a and 504 loans? The CARES Act had a provision that gave all loan holders 6 automatic payments. Honestly am hoping this new bill re ups that but have not found anything.

Should you trademark the name before you incorporate? What gives you the most protection and power over the future of your business?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 03:55 PM PST

I'm asking for both Canada and the USA. I want to know the cheapest way to start a business because I don't have much money.

Is there a copyright law that allows you to not trademark your logo until later? I'm wondering how hard they've made it to start from nothing. What gives you the most protection and power over the future of your business?

Texas LLC: How to change the business purpose?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 09:00 PM PST

    Hey folks,

I created an LLC back in the day for trading stocks, and now I want to keep that business but change the purpose of it to something along the lines of "all legal business purposes."

I know it can be done. Does anyone know the form or whatnot that you have to fill out in Texas?

Employee Count - COVID 19 CA Relief Grant

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 08:53 AM PST

Hello! I own a nightclub in California and we've been shut down due to covid since March creating 0 revenue. I had a staff of 32 (3 full time, 29 part time) but furloughed everyone until we re open

On the grant application it asks # of full time and # of part time employees. It then asks for # of jobs created and # of jobs retained. Could someone please help me with this. Technically we havent fired anyone but no one is getting paid. So not sure if I need to just put 32 for # created and # retained or 0. Thanks!

    Questions: Starting at-home business

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 05:12 PM PST

Hello everyone. I'm looking for a bit of advice regarding the setup of an at-home business.

My wife and I have decided to start a business next year. It will be a simple online store/shop based in Texas. I'm currently doing a ton of research on what is needed to set everything up. I understand that bringing in an accountant is a good way to make sure the business is setup correctly from the start.

My question is, should we speak with the accountant before submitting any paperwork or after the paperwork? I have group legal insurance to handle the actual legal filing work, but I'm assuming, possibly incorrectly, that a CPA can provide input on what to apply for (LLC, S-Corp, etc.). Because of that, I feel like before is the better option. I just haven't been able to get a definite answer yet.

I apologise in advance if this was a dumb question, and I greatly appreciate any information you can provide.

    Thank you 👍

How much to charge to record a workshop for someone else?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 11:25 AM PST

I am an artisan and have been asked to film a workshop of my craft for a MOOC (online class) platform. Obviously, I am super thrilled to do so and would love to share my knowledge with others. However, I am relatively new to this world and have no idea how to price myself.

On one hand, I don't want to undervalue my time and my knowledge. On the other hand, this is a new initiative that doesn't have much capital behind, so I also don't want to say something unreasonable.

Does anyone have experience with this? Should I charge everything up front... and what should I take into account? Should I charge a price upfront and then a small percentage of every course sold? Or no fee up front but then take a much bigger percentage of each course sold.

I guess what I am really looking for is what questions I should be asking myself in relation to this?

    Habit Development Coaching

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 10:17 AM PST

    Hey guys!

I've been doing a bit of free business coaching in 2019 and received pretty good feedback.

This year I left behind a new and very well paying job due to personal reasons and decided to take my coaching full time.

I'm now moving towards habit development branching across fitness and business clients.

I've been focusing on growing a social presence recently and i'm really happy with offering advise and just giving time for my experience to speak for itself but.... my wife is on maternity leave so it's just my savings to feed her and our little one.

She'll be going back to work in a couple months and a free client is signing up for paid recurring monthly in Jan...so we'll survive till then but... it would definitely brighten up everyone's mood to find a reliable~ish way to land clients!

Does anyone have recommendations on finding clients? I've heard finding facebook groups and direct messaging is one way to go but... it feels so slimy?

P.S I'm not on social all that much. I try to keep screen time down so please bear with me in terms of responses!

    Commercial Lease Agreements

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 01:34 PM PST

When our landlord told us the new rent for 2021, we could not fathom his math based on our understanding of the lease. The wording in the lease was poorly done and it turns out that while our method and his are both reachable based on what the lease literally says, it's the landlord's position that actually matters. The lease is a three-year term and each year rent is supposed to increase by an inflation-based percentage. Fairly normal, except that with his math, that rate of increases also goes up. The first three years are like so:

    2019: $1917.49 – Base rent of 1834.00 – this is effectively a 5.5% increase from 2018 to 2019

    2020: $2039.08 – Base rent of 1917.49 – this is effectively a 6% increase from 2019 to 2020

    2021: $2182.01. – Base rent of 2039.08 – this is effectively a 7% increase from 2020 to 2021

If we renew, the percent increase goes to 9% for 2022, 11% for 2023, 14% for 2024, until soon our rent is more than our monthly sales. Renegotiations aside, is this a normal methodology for commercial renting? Our lawyer who read the lease before we signed either did not catch it or didn't think it of note.

So now that the EIDL grant is not going to be subtracted from PPP - Should I wait for a new application?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 01:25 PM PST

I took out the PPP back in April. I have't filed for forgiveness yet because I was waiting for this new stimulus language. Now the new stimulus states that the EIDL portion is not going to be subtracted from the total forgiveable amount. Thus, my question is - how do I go about this now?

    - Also what is the deadline for PPP application for forgiveness?

    - Which months can I use the PPP to pay myself?

    - How do I prove that I paid myself if I dont have a business bank account?
