My fiancé was involved in an automobile accident and the other car fled the scene. (ohio)

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 04:29 PM PST

From what I understand of the accident, my fiancé was merging into the left most lane and a car quickly approaching was not paying attention, swerved to avoid the accident and over-corrected and collided into her car. The person exited the car to inspect the damage, but quickly left without talking to my fiance.

The police arrived and deemed that my fiance was at fault because she was changing lanes. She however maintains that the other driver was distracted and would not have collided with her if they were aware.

The plate number of the other driver was provided to the police.

Is it significant to the insurance that the other driver fled the scene? Is the officer correct in deeming the fault of a driver when the other driver fled the scene of an accident? Looking for advise or information from someone who might have been in a similar situation. Thanks for your time!

Should I report this to my insurance?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 02:32 AM PST

I will make this story short: two days ago I was exiting a small alley, a person who was riding a rented e-bike on sidewalk hit the driver side of my car and fell from the bike. I asked if she needed ambulance but she got up and said she was OK and in a hurry for work and then left. Out of concern I caught up with her then gave her my insurance information to see if she needed it (also I don't want to be accused of hit and run for whatever reason even though I certainly did not)

The damage to my vehicle is very minor if at all and I don't think I have to bother with any repair.

I thought she would have filed a claim but two days passed I heard nothing from my insurer. In this case do I need to report it to my insurer tomorrow? I don't even know her name/address as she was not driving a vehicle so probably not carrying any insurance, and she left the scene very quickly and declined to call ambulance (or police).

In this case I don't even know what to report to my insurer other than "I had an accident, my car needs no repair, someone whose name I do not have may or may not file an injury claim"?.....

    Thanks

Statefarm rep said I'm better to go with a lower deductible and regular comprehensive insurance rather than comprehensive + glass. Does this make sense? Are there any gotchas?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 10:29 PM PST

    State: CO

So got a quote for a new car purchase I'm making. Insurance quotes came out to $153 a month for car insurance with a $500 collision and comprehensive deductible. This plan includes Statefarm's comprehensive + glass package which means glass claims (windshield replacements) are free but otherwise other claims require a $500 deductible.

The rep then went on to say I should just do a plan with a $0 comprehensive deductible and a $100 collision deductible for $160 a month. He said if I need to make a glass claim I would still have no out of pocket amount and for an additional $7 a month I get the benefit of any other comprehensive claim also requiring no deductible.

Are there any gotchas in getting a regular comprehensive plan without glass? He said I can use the regular comp plan to replace a windshield (common in my state) and it makes no difference.

    Question about an incident

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 11:56 AM PST

So last night my girlfriends uncle backed into my car, he hit it in the front and it's rubbing against the tire making it unsafe to drive. I tried calling my insurance to turn it in, but they're closed till Monday. I have no other car to drive and I need a replacement. He gave me his insurance card, not sure where to go from here. I cant sit around and wait until Monday. Any advice/help would be great. I'm in Virginia.

SDI: PTSD Childhood and young adulthood trama and mental stability issues. I want to live a better/stable life. I want to do a non profit vocational program while on SDI and work on my stability in my mental health. Do I qualify? Should I even try?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 11:06 PM PST

Grew up with a meth addict teen mom, sexually abused, psychologically abused , lack of nourishment(food),medication abuse from parents, and neglect but I'm considered very intelligent. I believe if I do this vocational program to acquire a skill now that a new disability(progressing spinal issues, car accident, concussion portion has been handled) has taken my manual labor job capability. I'm still young enough for a specific program for young adults like me that grew up like me. I wanted to know if I can get on disability since maintaining a stable mind just seems too much for me. I have PTSD, anxiety attacks (might be kicked out because my landlord thinks I'm on drugs and doesn't understand mental disorders), some sort of dialectal dissociative disorder, and possibly adhd so I appear a lot more erratic.

I wanted to see if I could get a couple years of disability. The vocational program is 11 months long, 32 hours a week, $1000/month stipend with a job at the end of the 11 months for the average student. I don't make enough to pay rent and I won't be able to handle the stress of maintaining a job and vocational studies. I lost my capability to do my job I was able to make a substantial living and had to resign. I'm on temporary disability for my back now but after it runs out in a fee months I can start the vocational school. Do I qualify for a longer term of disability in California to live a sustainable life while working on my mental disorders to undo the harm it's caused me and has prevented me from living a stable life?

Beater car hit by a drunk while parked.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 10:10 PM PST

My car was hit by a drunk driver while parked in front of my house tonight. It's a 2011 base model Subaru Legacy that I've used for the last eight years or so to grind out my 3-4 day a week 120 mile round-trip commute plus lots of family trips where my kids have basically destroyed the interior. It's got about 180k on the odometer and Kelly Blue Book says the trade-in value is tops ~$1,500. I'm 99 percent certain it will be a total loss.

From my perspective, this is a car that could have served me for another five years, as it was mechanically sound, had some major technical service bulletins taken care of and served our purposes as a second vehicle admirably. To replace it with a similar vehicle will cost twice as much as what the adjuster is likely to recommend.

I feel like I'm about to get ass fucked by the drunk shithead's insurance company. What can I do to get what it will take to actually replace my vehicle?

Dental cleaning bill.. I have no idea how dental insurance works, please help.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 08:58 PM PST

A few weeks ago I got a routine dental cleaning at a new dentist. When I set up the appointment I gave them my insurance info and the receptionist made sure that the dentist I saw was in network. Now I got a $400 bill in the mail.

I am 19 and covered under my dad's plan, my parents say their cleanings are always fully covered. Was there some mistake or do I need to wait longer until the insurance covers it? I have no idea how this works. This is a picture of the bill. I checked again and the dentist listed on it is in my network. Please let me know if I need to call the dentist or insurer about this. My family can't really afford this bill and I don't want to give my parents a heart attack.

I live in NY. I went to a dentist in NJ, where I go to school.

    First accident question

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 02:50 PM PST

I've never been in a car accident and the other day someone hit on my the highway and basically totaled my car. I didn't know i was suppose to contact their insurance and not just mine then yesterday their insurance called and asked for details about the crash.

Am i supposed to do anything else? i still never filed a claim with them myself. The person who crashed into me just filed it herself. I currently don't have a car to drive to work and it freaking sucks and i just don't want to mess anything up and not get reimburse and not have a car.
Also for others this has happened to what was the timeline to getting some sort of reimbursement?

    Thank you for reading.

    Gap semester and insurance.

Hello. I am considering taking a semester long break from college due to the pandemic. My father however says that if I take a break semester, I will be dropped from my insurance. I was just wondering if this is correct, and what a suggested course of action should be. Thank you!

    First Speeding Ticket

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 07:53 PM PST

    Utah, US

So I just got my first ticket. The cop wrote me for going 81 in a 70 zone, however, above that shows "SPEEDING (93/70 mph rfmr) so I don't know if the judge will treat me/this as going 81 or 93 in a 70 zone(hwy). I pulled ahead of this swerving driver and let off when I went over the slightly steep hill, which led me into the cops radar.

The ticket doesn't show the fee or a court date and also shows the incorrect registration date as the cop took my old registration paper while I was looking for my temp tag. I don't know how much the fee is or points I have now. I'm trying to figure out what to do before I tell my mom about it.

I heard Traffic School is the way, but some people have said that it does remove the points off and some say it doesn't. I don't want my mom having to pay more for insurance, so how can I fix this? Or am I screwed and will have to pay the fee AND have her pay more for insurance? I work M-Sat from 7am-6pm so I can't call the court for help

Can my home insurance company go back on something they agreed to repai? (Ontario, Canada)

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 07:04 PM PST

I've tried writing the whole story but it's too long....but I'll answer any questions that may help provide me with suggestions.

Basically - home insurance claim. I have an email from the insurance adjuster saying they'll repair something that originally hadn't been included in the claim, "a door". The email is in no way vague.

I opted to use the people recommended by my insurance (mistake) and 9 months after the incident the work isn't complete.

The guys they sent pointed out there was additional damage near the "door" which caused me to reach out to my insurance company. Adjuster then said the additional damage was preexisting. I have no idea if it was but I've been here over a decade and never noticed it...swollen wet wood seems existing.

Now I'm worried they won't repair the "door" since they said the other damage was preexisting.

I changed a couple details. My doors are fine.

TLDR - Insurance adjuster in an email says door will be replaced. Can she then decide not to.

    Car insurance advice

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 05:41 PM PST

I'm currently looking to get full coverage for my new car. I live in Michigan, so I can't just get liability insurance. Because of Michigan's strict insurance laws, without full coverage I can only get 3k in damages if I get into an accident (learned that the hard way). Looking for affordable full coverage! All recommendations welcome. Thank you!!!

What insurance companies offer "MBI" - Major Breakdown Insurance? It's supposed to be very similar to extended warranties on cars but it is provided in the same manner as comprehensive car insurance. You select deductible rate & what you want covered

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 07:07 AM PST

*edit: I'm in PA and the cars I was looking at were 3-6 years old, 20-60K miles. I'm pretty sure they mentioned that this was specifically for buying a used car b/c they were saying don't pay $2500-3500 for an extended warranty when you can get it at a fraction of the price. IIRC, the cars they were talking about were 2014-2015 and this was only a couple months ago.

I forget what I was listening to or reading but I know it was about getting an extended warranty once the factory warranty, or CPO warranty was up, and the writer said that the extended warranties are often outrageously expensive for what you get, especially when compared to MBI - and they went on to explain what it is. I've never heard of this, and maybe it's b/c only a few insurance companies offer it. But the article or news show said that most of them offer extensive coverage and can have deductibles as low as $50!!. Now obviously the lower the deductible, the higher your insurance premium will be, but for some cars, when the average repair bill is $600-1000+, it might make sense looking into a $100-250 deductible, especially if your car model has known issues and you are getting close to the mileage where things are acting up.

They did say that they work almost identically to collision repairs or extended warranty coverage. You have to take it to a authorized repair center (dealerships are almost ALWAYS acceptable) and I think they mentioned any ASE certified shop/mechanic. You call the insurance company, tell them what is going on and they tell you to get it looked at. You give the insurance info at the shop and they will handle dealing with the cost (insurance companies can haggle down the prices they said), and all you are left with is sending a check to the insurance company OR you pay the deductible directly to the shop - it just depends how you have it setup.

For those who don't know, this actually sounds easier than some extended warranties where they expect YOU to pay 100% out of pocket and then they reimburse you "in a timely manner" - but I've heard horror stories here and there about this - which is why you ALWAYS want these companies to make direct payment to the repair shop and you pay your deductible to either.

So, has anyone heard of this or have experience with it?

    Refund?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 12:35 PM PST

So I've never been in a car accident under this insurer Esurance. Since I've started in June I've been paying a monthly premium. My policy was up for renewal on the first of December but I'm at the moment unemployed and decided this would be a good time to cancel because of it. Would I get a refund for the amount paid so far? I've seen on a few sites I would but would like to make sure for a person in my current situation. I'm new to this so I'm not sure what to believe as I asked an agent of my insurer when canceling and they said that wasn't something that happens. It does make sense I would get a refund though because I thought it ridiculous the amount you have to pay a month to be insured in case of any accidents and not even be in an accident. Not including the deductible itself. I also live in the United States, Michigan.

    Car insurance (uk)

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 08:47 AM PST

    Afternoon all,

Around 5-7 years ago I had an insurance policy cancelled on me as I failed to make the payments on time. Ever since then when I've renewed I've ticked the box asking if I've ever had a policy cancelled now my question is am I doing the correct thing? And if so how long do I have to declare this as surely there must be a spent time like driving license points? I was only 23 at the time so surely cant be punished with higher payments forever?

    Clarification on HMO vs PPO.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 12:28 PM PST

I lost my job and for now am on my old PPO through Cobra. I get that one of the big differences between an HMO and a PPO is being able to see a specialist without a referral.

I am currently a patient at 2 specialists (gastro and neuro) and am wondering if I switch to an HMO to save some cash while unemployed if I will be able to stay with those doctors (assuming in network) or will I have to go through my primary and get new referrals?

Help getting car insurance for poor people

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 11:50 AM PST

So im in the process of getting our first car (our being 20yo me, my 20yo partner, and our 1yo daughter). Its a 2008 Nissan Versa, and the only thing we have left to do is get car insurance.

We're having trouble finding one thats within our budget. Ideally it would be within $100-$150 max, but I understand its a little unreasonable since im a young first time car owner.

Ive had my license since i was 16 and have driven sporadically in other peoples cars (mainly my sil's car who lives next to us), so I feel frustrated because I have the practice down, but they're still treating me like a relatively new driver. All the quotes ive gotten have been in the $200-$300 range or more.

    I live in Troutdale, Oregon.

How can I lower my rates?

No car for over a week now after car accident, at fault driver's insurance silent and taking two hour bus rides twice a day since the accident. Any solutions? Is this normal?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 11:32 AM PST

For some background I'm in the US, NY and I myself only have liability. I'm absolutely livid about my situation. I get that things take time but why is it so hard to find out if getting a rental car would be covered and or if my car will be deemed a total loss so I can just buy a new car.

My family got me an attorney the day of accident and they said they would handle everything but it seems they are unable to get ahold of the adjuster when I asked them if I can get a rental car. I was told not to contact anyone from their insurance or mine so right now it seems like my only course of action is to continue waiting for any contact from the at fault's insurance or my lawyer. Is it normal for things to be this delayed? If multiple mechanics have told me the car is a total loss can I just buy a new car with the assumption I will be paid out once the adjuster finally comes to look at the car?

To be clear, I know taking the bus isn't that big of a deal but I get out of work very late and I have to pass through a sketchy neighborhood just to get home for doing absolutely nothing wrong.

    Setting up an ICHRA

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 11:22 AM PST

    Hi,

I currently have an S-corp and would like to offer my employee (1 Employee) an ICHRA. I read up on it but I'm still a little unclear how it works.

    1. Do I need to create a special bank account for the money like an HSA?
    2. Where can I find the process for reimbursement? (Like do I need to write anything on the Paystub?)
    3. Is there any forms I need to file?- (If I understood correctly the 1095 is only for large businesses).

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Sorry didn't realize should write location. My business is located in NYC.

Car insurance updates - low miles with remote jobs

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 11:08 AM PST

For some context: I've been working remote for about 2 years and drive very little. Due to Covid, my husband now works remote as well. We hardly ever drive anymore... we currently have State Farm (We've been with them for over 20 years) and only got a 10% discount in June (for only 1 month) due to changes in our driving frequency.

I've read a bit abt Liberty Mutual's drive and save (or) a service that you basically pay for what you drive.

Would love experience from those that have this service from Liberty Mutual or something similar.

    Named Car insurance

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 10:31 AM PST

I've got my test booked for February so I was looking for insurance to be a named driver on my parents car- Audi Q3 2016. I can't find any insurance under £3.3k, even though without me it only cost £1k. They have never claimed and have 9+ years NCD and have never claimed. Does anyone have any ideas or any good, cheap insurance provider suggestions? I'm in the U.K. and I'm 17years old btw.

Hit & Run victim and nowhere to go

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 10:21 AM PST

[Backstory] Back in April I was involved in a hit and run after a dispute at a fast food location where the driver cut in line directly in front of me, with 5 cars behind me. I was not going to let this happen, so I got out and stood in front of his vehicle and yelled at him that we wasn't about to cut everyone in line. The standoff lasted about 10 minutes and all the cars that were behind me went around and used the drive thru. This driver kept inching towards me and pushing me with his vehicle towards the drive thru line entrance. After the 4th or 5th nudge I had had enough and slammed my fist on his hood. This prompted him to get out of the car with a nightstick/baton and bluff charge me. He stomped around angry and yelling, then went towards the back of my truck to presumably look at my license plate?

He got in his SUV and backed up to leave the line, pulled forward and then lined up his back bumper with my front bumper and backed up again, but into my bumper this time, causing significant damage. Someone at the scene got a video of the whole thing with the license plate info visible, so I called the police. I talked with the officer, gave my side of the story and was told to file a police report request, because he was going to go talk to the man that hit my vehicle and get his side of the story. The police report was finally released to me and I have the drivers name and that's it. I was expecting the police would do more work to get me the drivers insurance info, but to no avail.

I've got liability insurance, the bare minimum, so when I called Progressive they said I can't technically file a claim through my insurance. But they were trying to be helpful and told me that the Plate info and vehicle make and color was enough for the claims representative to then tell me that the driver had Geico insurance in 2017. Called Geico with the information and they were able to tell me he had a policy with State Farm in 2015. State Farm had no other information about this man.

I need help on what to do next. I want my truck repaired and I feel like the police report was a let down. Being filed in April and finalizing the report in November so I can physically have the report was more than frustrating. Especially since there was no valuable info on it, since I already after called around and couldn't identify the mans insurance provider myself. [The last gripe I have about the police report is that it's noted that neither of us could confirm if the collision was on purpose. Someone in line filmed the whole thing and watched this man come at me with a nightstick, then get in his car and smash my trucks bumper before speeding away. With video proof even, the police report only indicates the Offense/Statute code on this incident report as FI-200 010. I'm not able to find any information about this on google, but I'm feeling let down that this mans maliciousness has so far gone unpunished.]

If someone could give me advice on how to get justice I would really appreciate it.

    Edit: Location, AZ
