My dogs previous owner is harassing me. Posted: 28 Nov 2020 08:44 PM PST I adopted my dog 2 years ago in August of 2018 from the pound. The pound told me her owner had been arrested and so she was picked up by police. They held her for 14 days to give the owner a chance to claim her, that didn't happen. I adopted her, signed paperwork, paid fees, etc. In October, on Facebook, I see a post of the woman looking for my dog two years later. I ignored it and moved on. And now Today my mom who lives 30 miles away has a woman at her door saying that she's made an offer on my moms house and needs to come in to take measurements. My mom realizes she looks very similar to the woman who posted looking for my dog. Then about an hour later I get a call from my leasing office and they leave a voicemail saying they're about to send a woman from the office to check out my apartment for a leak. I thought it was odd because it was 8pm at night and they're very much closed. Then I get a knock on my door, and it's her! I open the door and basically tell her to leave me alone. Now I'm so paranoid and uneasy. I don't know how she found all of my info! Also the fact that she got her caller ID to show up as my leasing office has me creeped out. I filed police reports at my address and my mom did at hers. I feel like this is going to turn into something unsafe for me and my family and now I wanna move away. Someone help :( [link] [comments] |
Can a neighbor grandfather our property to his by slowly moving property markers? NY Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:23 AM PST This seems like it out of an old western movie. Our neighbor started by slowly moving his property markers more and more on our property. We have about 13 acres of land and about 10 of it is woods/grass/marsh. Our neighbor has a similar property. It seems to slowly be moving his markers onto ours each month. My dad is very non-confrontational in his old age and doesn't care, but this was where I grew up and where he and his father explored when they first got the property. He says that we have a deed that clearly marks our property, yet our neighbor keeps moving his markers. He also cleared a portion of his property and dragged about 50-60lbs of debris and knocked down trees and just left it in our property. Can this grandfather the land to him over time? I was looking at it over thanksgiving and the guy rode out on an atv with a gun on his back to try and intimidate me but if anything just made me take the situation even less seriously [link] [comments] |
Can I contact the cops to get my gun back. Posted: 29 Nov 2020 12:45 PM PST I'm in Colorado and have a friend that was holding my gun for me. We've since had a fallout and are not speaking. I asked him for my gun back 2 weeks ago and he's not responded. I sent a new text today, stating that I want this resolved today, and that this is the second time I'm asking, and I don't want to involve the authorities. What are my next steps? Can the cops help? If I've asked for it back and not got it, is it now considered stolen? Do I file a report? Why someone would refuse to return someone else's gun is beyond me. Any advice is appreciated, thanks y'all. Mother of child didn't put me on as a legal guardian for daycare for daughter Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:38 AM PST Hello, I'm from Pennsylvania. The mother of my child didn't put me as a legal guardian in our child's daycare. We are currently about to go to court for joint custody. She also put her new boyfriend who she has been dating only for 5 months as a emergency contact. What can I do to prove to the daycare that I am a legal guardian and put myself back on? Friend’s supervisor is instructing her to work overtime unpaid. Posted: 29 Nov 2020 06:59 AM PST This is in Indiana My friend is a speech therapist at a nursing home and her patient volume has been high lately. She usually does 30-45 minutes session working with patients with swallowing difficulties or memory problems. The past couple weeks her supervisor has put up to 16 patients on her schedule a day, meaning she would need to spend ~30 minutes each but also stay at the end of the day to do all the charting, which comes out to 10 hours. She notified her supervisor that this would put her into overtime, and her supervisor suggested she just make some patients 10 or 15 minutes sessions then. My friend said that she did not feel like she could get an accurate assessment or do adequate treatment with patients in less than 15 minutes. Her boss suggested that if she was worried about the quality of care they were getting, she could do 30 minutes sessions and then just not bill for them, so she would be working unpaid in order to give the patients quality care. This is in a text message. I told her to continue her full sessions and bill correctly, and if she got told again to work unpaid she should ask "to get that in writing please". Hopefully this is enough to get them to realize they can't ask this, but I'm not a lawyer. Any other tips? [link] [comments] |
Realtor Gave Keys too soon. Seller claims items stolen. Posted: 28 Nov 2020 05:47 PM PST We finished closing on a house on Tuesday with a stipulation that possession of the property would happen 5 days after closing. The closing date changed several times which confused us, but the seller gave us the keys to the house on Tuesday. We thought this meant we could move in so we began moving in on Thursday. While we were unloading the U-Haul, the seller showed up to remove the few remaining items they left behind and informed us we couldn't move in until Sunday. Our realtor did not inform us of this... in fact she stated that we should move in by Thursday to enjoy thanksgiving at the new home when in reality she should have told us not to move in yet. She is also on video (which she recorded herself) saying everything in the house is ours and we can throw away whatever we don't want. This made us believe we were good to move in and get rid of the things the seller left behind. We did not get rid of anything and had only started cleaning the kitchen when the seller arrived. We loaded up our U-Haul again and left. The seller is claiming that a safe and jewelry/other valuables are missing. He told us that the realtor is responsible and it seems like he is trying to get money from her. Now our realtor is saying we are not allowed to move in on Sunday and cannot go near the property until this is settled even though our contract states we can take possession on Sunday. Does anyone know if this is true? Can we move in anyway? Is there anything we should do or prepare for? Update: This is in California, in case that makes a difference. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:42 AM PST To keep this as simple as I can, I've tried to shorten it without leaving any facts out. I was delivering 2 packages to a house for Amzn. There were 2 "docile looking" pitbulls walking around with invisible fence collars on. Amzn leaves this up to driver discretion whether we continue to deliver or not. I get out of the van and deliver the goods to the front porch. As I turned to go back to my van, one of the dogs flipped his switch and proceeded to lock his jaw on my left hand. He then did it again but I finally got free after punching him in his head. I was yelling obscenities at this point and both homeowners come out to my rescue. The woman was extremely helpful with giving my medical supplies to wrap my hand. The guy was pretty nonchalant and even looked agitated by the whole situation. Animal control was called by home owner and so was the vet for shot records. I called my job and reported it. They sent me to fastmed (urgent care) to have my hand looked at, and its covered by workman's comp. This honestly scared the shit out of me and I'm probably not going to continue this line of work anymore. Would I have a case to sue the dog owners? Things to note: Police we're not involved. Pictures were taken immediately after. I do not know if there was a Beware of Dog sign. (Idk if that matters) Any advice would be comforting. Thanks. Edit: This happened in North Carolina. Thank you, Locationbot. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Nov 2020 01:22 PM PST Hi there, this issue is taking place in Washington state. I was working a full time job making about $75k, and was also working a side gig for my apartment complex where they discounted my rent by $560 per month in exchange for me serving as their on-site property manager. In May 2020, my full-time job notified me that I was being laid off directly as a result of COVID-19 and that my final day would be June 1. They had me sign e-documents certifying this information and that I was eligible for unemployment through them. I started filing weekly claims and was given a weekly benefit amount of $705. Because I was still working for the apartment complex, they deducted $104 per week. About a month later, my partner and I made the decision to move out of our high cost of living area into a low cost of living area. In mid-July, I notified my apartment complex that I was going to be vacating the apartment complex in about a month and therefore could no longer serve as the onsite manager. As soon as I was no longer receiving the rent discount for them, I adjusted my weekly unemployment claim to reflect that, and was prompted to explain why I was no longer working for them. I explained that I had to move out of the building and therefore could not continue working as the onsite manager, and the system began to give me the full $705 weekly benefit amount. This continued until September 5, which was the final week of my unemployment (I started a new full-time job on the 8th). Fast forward to yesterday, when I received an email stating that the unemployment office has denied my unemployment benefits beginning from the week I quit the apartment job. They are stating that my reason for quitting was not a "good reason" and therefore I must repay ALL the unemployment I received from the weeks of July 16 - September 5. Including the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation and Lost Wages Assistance, this totals almost $8k. I was never intending to collect unemployment based on the part-time apartment job - I wasn't even earning an actual income from them, just a rent discount. I tried very hard to be as truthful and as accurate with my reporting as possible, and I am hoping this is a bureaucratic error and that I don't truly owe that money back because I don't have it. I could understand if I owed back the weekly $104 I got after quitting that job, but do I owe back ALL of it? I have until December 28th to appeal the decision but I want to know if I have a case here. Did I fuck up? [link] [comments] |
Roommate called police on me this morning Posted: 29 Nov 2020 10:29 AM PST So my roommate(female) has been letting her mom stay here for the last week and a half for free, either she or her mom are sleeping on the couch when I get home ive been avoiding use of kitchen out of respect. The other day she complained we never leave the house because i decided to use it to cook breakfast. Her and her mom make me feel unwelcome every time i enter the living room either to turn the heat down or use the kitchen. I feel that she was turning the heat way up to 75 degrees as an act of passive aggressive behavior, so i decided to call her out on it and ask her why she keeps turning the heat up so high. She then goes off to call me a bunch of names and accuse me of doing heroin and lied about my roommates not liking me. She also said that i wake her uo every night by having my TV too loud, which was never communicated to me. I was so taken aback by her comments i decide to sit in the living room and talk with her more, but was silent for a moment while i tried to collect my thoughts. She then decides to call the police and claim that im antagonizing her with a breach of peace, so the police arrive and nothing is done but they said they will charge us with breach of peace if they have to return. I am on a one year lease at this place, and due to the legality of this i am unable to break the lease prematurely without being liable for the rent. I tried to negotiate with her peacefully about how we can make things work but she seems to turn it into an opportunity to instigate so that she can make rhe case for a police visit. I dont know what to do and i dont want to deal with a court case if it comes to. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Nov 2020 11:32 AM PST I was the sucker who just had my childhood dream turn into an adult nightmare. I found a car online I was interested in buying. I contacted the dealer about said car. Dealer provided VIN#, copy of his dealer license, and car fax for said Vehicle. I applied for a auto loan through USAA and was approved Dealer submitted required documents to USAA USAA wired Dealer $50k My car never showed up, dealers website is now shut down, no answer on any lines of communication to dealer. Police report filed, FBI report filed. USAA has opened a fraud investigation. During a phone conversation with a USAA representative I asked directly "What would happen if my car never shows up?" USAA rep told me, "USAA would cancel your loan and we would go after the dealer". Now USAA is telling me I was given false information from that rep and that I am the one responsible for the loan payments to USAA. Any idea what I should do from here? I am in Texas. The vehicle and dealer where in Indiana. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Nov 2020 12:42 PM PST So I used to live with a woman, she was my landlord cuz I signed a contract to live there but I didn't pay rent with money but instead would do chores, cook, and tend to garden, so I don't know how legally standing her title as landlord is. But one day I told her my sister was going to pick me up for dental appointment and she told me I hadn't cleared it by her cuz I was basically supposed to get permission before I went anywhere I guess. I told her it was just my sister and it turned into this big fight and she tried busting down my door ended up just unlocking it and then told me to get out. I left that night and stayed with my parents while recovering from surgery and while I was staying she texted me saying I had to get all my stuff out within a week or so (I don't remember the dates I'd have to check logs) or that she would throw it all away or sell it. I told her I had like sixty days before it's considered abandoned property and when I went to go get my stuff she already had it all packed for me which doesn't seem right but idk if that's legal or not. And i asked her if my dog was ready to go and she said "you didn't tell me you were taking her" to which I said "I shouldn't have to specify that I'm taking my dog". The dog was a gift from her, dog lived there before I did but when I got there the dog got really attached to me and I taught her new tricks, taught her how to walk in the yard without leash, tamed her bc she used to attack the cats outside which is why she had to be leashed even though they claimed it would be impossible to get her to be calm, she used to sleep in my room every night too. She was my best friend and became a support animal in a way, I used to struggle with self harm and anytime I started freaking dog would put her hands atop mine until I calmed down and then when I was gone she wouldn't eat like even if I was in the living room and her food bowl was like twenty feet away. It's easy to see how attached dog is to me so landlord said "if you ever leave or anything you have to take her, she's your dog now, she loves you so much". So I reminded my landlord of her saying this and she said "well she was my dog before you came here" which she really doesn't care about dog like I do I know she's just keeping her to hurt me, she doesn't like when dog hugs (which I taught her to do) or kisses her. Sorry for this being so long I just don't know which details are important and which aren't. Also we're in Texas idk if that affects law or anything. I tried looking into lawyers but I simply can't afford anything. Is there any way at all to get my dog back or do I have to accept defeat? [link] [comments] |
I'm not sure if I'm actually financed on my recent used vehicle purchase. Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:52 AM PST I live in illinois and recently upgraded our family vehicle. Settled on a 2015 Ford Edge. Gave them half of my $1000 down payment on the spot and filled out paperwork, other half and title for trade in to follow. When I brought the title and the other $500 I was told the lender took issue with my proof of residency. Not to worry the guy at the dealership said, a Boost Mobile bill would suffice since my lease didn't work and I have no utilities in my name. Fast forward 1 week and I get a voicemail from someone in finance saying I need to help them help me. Bank sent back the paperwork. He would hate to have to tell me the deal is declined. Need better proof of residency. Etc.. I sent in copies of capital one bills and insurance bills showing my address via email. Told him my voter ID card shows my address too. I never received a response. I've also not received a welcome kit from my listed financing company on my Retail Installment Contract. I haven't heard from anyone in over a week. 1st bill is due the 15th. Wtf is going on? [link] [comments] |
In IL, unexpected disability - breaking lease Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:31 AM PST Hi all, I was admitted to the hospital on Nov 3rd for what turned out to be acute pancreatitis and then developed a pleural effusion. I was discharged on the 17th (2 weeks later). My friend advised me to email the landlord immediately about breaking the lease (my apartment is on the 3rd floor with no elevator or way to add accessibility, and i wont be able to do stairs for a while). Unfortunately the landlords are old Polish folks whob only do oral or communication or notes. My other friend (a lawyer) advised me to wait to get a letter from my doctor to attach to a letter from me explaining that the lease will need to be broken due to the ADA. She told me i need to pay December rent and won't get my security deposit back, but I'm mostly worried because my first friend told me things are likely on a timer and I'm worried that since it's been 10 days since discharge and i dont get to see a doctor until 2 days from now, I'm running out of time. Do I send the landlord a letter and tell them to expect a letter from my doctor? My current letter's wording is pretty clear that a doctor's letter already exists and the landlord has 7 days to respond so i doubt that's a good idea. Another piece of advice was to email the remax agent who we (roommate and i) went through - is this a good idea? I'm not sure what to do and any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance. Being charged 2k for MRI after being told it was in network and would cost $134 Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:15 AM PST I had an MRI from a facility who told me they were in-network and filed a pre-auth with the insurance company that came back in network and my responsibility was $134. What actually happened was: 1) the local facility dropped my insurance co in July 2) they told me they took my insurance and filed the pre-auth with the wrong tax ID which resolved to a facility in AZ which was in network. 3) I paid 134 and got the MRI in October 4) they filed the claim this time with the correct TaxID which resolved to the local facility which was out of network. 5) They went back in network in November (icing on the cake) 6) I get a bill for 2k since it was technically out of network and my insurance denied the claim as such. Nobody has been much help. For once I don't fault the insurance company. The facility bills through a billing company and refuses to discuss at a local level. They said the circumstances don't matter, I was out of network. I'm not sure what I could have done aside from auditing the documents sent to the insurance company. Not sure what my options are, if any, here. [link] [comments] |
someone is accusing me of keying his car Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:59 AM PST So i live in a somewhat busy city, walking my dog the other day a guy is going the wrong way down our one way, i yelled at him after he almost hit my dog and i. Then i hop in my car and leave with my dog. A week or so later i walk out and find a note on my car that describes me and my dog? i thought it was really creepy and i threw it in the trash, it definitely had something inside but i just chucked it thinking some man wanted my number. Then today i find a note taped to my car that says something along the lines of text me (phone number) i know you keyed my car, last chance before i file a report.... i never touched this persons car? What can i do to protect myself from these accusations? i know he doesn't have any proof because i never touched his car... but there's no cameras or anything in the area to back up my claims or his claims? what do i do? i called the police because it's genuinely scaring me that this man knows what i look like and what car is mine and continues to leave notes on my car, and they said i should call again when i get hoke so they can come make a report. i had my friend text him and she asked him to leave me alone. He said he hopes i have good insurance incase anyone does something to my car. So i should definitely file a report right? edit (buffalo, ny) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Nov 2020 05:33 PM PST I bought a used car in Columbus Ohio with a cashiers check. A day later the seller said it got destroyed by accidently washing it in his pants. We did all the paperwork, and I have the title and the bill of sale of the vehicle. I was planning on putting the car under my name the day I bought it, but the title place was closed that day. Me and the seller spoke since he accidently destroyed the check, and we agreed to just cancel the previous cashiers check and do another check. However, being the paranoid person I am, I'm afraid that if I send him another check, he will secretly deposit the "destroyed" cashiers check as well as the newly sent check. The seller seems to be a really nice guy, but he could just be a really good actor. I was thinking of registering the car under my name, then saying I will send a new check once the 90 day wait for the Declaration of Loss goes through. Was looking for others thoughts. My Previous employer threatened to sue me for being friends with his ex-wife Posted: 29 Nov 2020 11:23 AM PST My previous employer from about 2 years ago called me this week, saying that, if I don't stop being friends with his ex-wife, he will sue me. When asked, on grounds of what, he just said, just wait and see and hang up the phone. My question is, is this a scare tactic or could there be legal repercussions for being friends with someone, especially a previous employers ex-partner, IE, could he somehow fabricate a lawsuit? For clarity, I stopped working there almost 2 years ago, and she asked for divorce roughly 4 months ago and we've only been friends for about 3 weeks now after I bumped into her at a restaurant and we started talking. Also, I left the company (a family run business) a few years back for exactly this reason, they wanted control over everything and she is divorcing him for the same reason, so I am not sure if this just him trying to scare me into submission or his way of gaining control or if there are legit grounds for this. Normally I wouldn't really be phased by this but their family does have quite a few connections so I'm just trying to prepare myself for in case it happens. This happened in South Africa. Putting in a fence on a “shared” driveway? Posted: 28 Nov 2020 03:38 PM PST I hate my neighbors. They are loud, obnoxious, and somehow believe that my side of the driveway on my property is theirs too. I moved in March of this year. The house was too good to pass up just for the shared driveway issue, so here I live. My issue is that they continue to use my driveway as a throughway for walking, trash, working on their cars(they have 3) and also have a 20ft long boat parked up against their house. Because of the tight quarters, the exhaust from the boat motor invades my home every time he "works on" the engine, running it for several minutes at a time all day long. Their children have decided that they can run up and down my driveway to play and even run around my car even though it is pulled up against the garage. I want to put a fence down the driveway. They have never asked for continued permission to use my driveway, and I don't know that the previous neighbor gave them permission either. Other neighbors on our street and in the neighborhood have a fence down their shared driveways, and we do not have an HOA to contend with. In all honestly it looks as if the neighbor poured asphalt next to my driveway instead of it being one planned slab, due to a rugged line at the border of our properties. All I want is a fence down the driveway and to regain some sense of privacy and ownership. Location is Delaware. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:20 AM PST We rented a property through a letting agency, on a fixed-term contract of one year. The initial contract was signed with two parties, I will call them Party 1 and Party 2 for the purposes of this post. As part of this contract, we were given Party 2 as a point of contact, via mobile number and email address. Throughout our tenancy, we were never in contact with Party 1; but only with Party 2. At the point when this initial fixed-term contract expired, we signed a new monthly rolling contract with Party 2. Later, we were contacted by Party 1's attorneys asking for any communication with Party 2 to cease; and for a new tenancy agreement to be signed with their client. They also attached an "official copy of register of title", authenticating Party 1's legal rights to the property. We then contacted Party 2, given their active contract – and were told that the property was held on trust by Party 1 and that there are legal proceedings between them**;** plus that Party 2 has the legal right to rent this property. They also said that the dispute should have already been resolved but was delayed due to COVID and will be resolved soon. We were also told that Party 1's attorneys are trying to scare us and asked us to stop communicating with Party 1. Party 2 then contacted their attorneys to write us a letter, confirming that Party 1 is the "beneficial owner of the property" for Party 2. As part of the same letter, they explain that "a dispute has arisen with respect to the Property" and that "this includes obtaining an initial injunction from the courts to immediately stop any further contact with the tenants by Party 1. Party 1 however said that no such legal proceedings are in motion, confirming this in a letter. The parties are now both asking for rent – with Party 1 asking for a new letting agreement to be signed. They also proposed that after signing a new agreement, they would come to the property to change the locks. They gave us 7 days to scan and send across our current tenancy agreement with Party 2, so that they can draft a new one, on the exact same terms. It is also worth noting that we paid a 6-week deposit, which is currently held by Party 2, through a tenancy deposit protection scheme. Party 1 asked that any further rent payments, starting December, to be made towards them. At the same time, Party 2 is also asking and expecting rent for December. We are rather confused and unsure of how to proceed – any advice would be greatly appreciated. I attached the most relevant documents here: https://imgur.com/a/NHR32e2 Thank you very much. [GA] Real father is attempting to sue my family again Posted: 29 Nov 2020 12:05 PM PST Hello everyone I appreciate your time reading this. I had a very rough childhood growing up. My real father was some way mental in the head so to speak so he caused a lot of issues. My family had to separate him from me until the age of 19 and for a good reason. He tried to take me from school, from my house in the middle of the night, while I was spending the night at a friend's house, the movie theater, pretty much any where I was and my mother was not. He caused my family a lot of issues including my personal traumas and my mom's financial issues as he sued her for no reason. Fast forward to when I turned 19, I was at work and I got a call from a random number it was my real father. Anyways we talked and we agreed to meet up and he was actually normal. Fast forward to now (I'm 21), now he is showing his true colors again. He is calling my family stupid, saying they have no education, telling me lies to trick me, and even threatening to sue my family again and my mom's workplace if I don't talk to him or be nice to him. I know he can sue because he has the money to waste, but I don't think he will actually get anything out of it. The problem is, he already caused enough issues in my mom's home town and her work place the first time he sued her which was when I was 17... If he sue's her and her work place again, she will definitely get fired and be extremely embarrassed. Not only that but right now we cannot afford to be taken to civil court and honestly he can lie so good there is a slight possibility he can some how win for emotional distress. Luckily I was VERY smart and every single thing I texted or told him over the phone or even in person was a lie. I never told him exactly where I was, who I was hanging out with, what cars I drive, where my house is, where I work, literally everything I said was a lie formed off some type of truth so he never knows real information. I think that was a mistake as he may take this out of context in court and embarass me as well as my family. So reddit, if he does sue my mom and her workplace, is there any chance he can win? His basis of suing is because my mom kept me away from him while I was younger (which I also agreed to). The thing is, I'm literally 21 years old. His basis of his law suit would make no sense as there is nothing the court can do for him to help him our regarding custody of me. [link] [comments] |
