Carrier (full coverage) denies claim due to driving for postmates during accident Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:01 PM PST Please we desperately need help or any advice whatsoever. Girlfriend in bad accident 4 days ago while driving for postmates. There were no injuries only property damage. Carrier completely denied claim due to driving commercially. Shouldn't have told them she was driving for postmates but the damage is done. There is almost 0 info about postmates coverage for an accident. After 4 days they responded to the email-only accident reporting with a copy/paste of how they don't cover anything for your vehicle but doesn't even mention anything about liability. There is literally not a single phone number to call. Now the car (probably totaled) is at a tow yard racking up huge storage fees. I don't even know what to do. I guess junk the car and pay off the fees asap? I even have attorney friends who are like no help so far. Edit: this is in Los Angeles, CA Update: Obviously junking the car tomorrow, it's totaled, I'll be happy if they waive fees (which is apparently 800$ ayyy lmao). Postmates contacted us for tc report and denial letter so I'm hopeful they'll be covering liability. it's Clear Cover insurance. We've been waiting on denial letter since Friday. The accident was her fault. [link] [comments] |
Has Anyone Heard Of The Birthday Rule? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 03:44 PM PST Hi all, My wife and I could use some serious help here. I'm going to try and type this super simply to avoid any confusion (mainly with us): I work in Film in TV. We have great insurance. It's called MPI (Motion Picture Industry). When my wife and I got married she hopped onto my insurance - as she didn't have her own (and was sub teaching). About a year later she got hired at LAUSD and got her own insurance. We were informed by MPI that my wife would need to be dropped and to use her own insurance - through her employer. Bummer (as we don't take care of teachers and give them the good insurance they need in this country), but fine. So we took her off MPI and put her on her own. Fast forward a year and we had a child. We added her to my insurance. As it was better than my wife's. Great. We found an in network pediatrician we love. Great. We've used her for almost four years now. We just had another baby two weeks ago. He had a few things with low glucose at the hospital - so we're monitoring that a bit (but he's fine now). We added him to my insurance last week. So I have both kids on it. Great. Until today. We got a letter from my insurance. It informed us that there is something called a "Birthday Rule". It states that if my wife and I are both insured (we are)... then the parent whose birthday comes first in the year has to be the one with the children on their insurance. We had never heard of this. We called up MPI. They tripled down and said that not only is that nation wide - and everyone should know about it - but that they are going to come after us for all of our child's paid back bills from the out of network pediatrician from the past four years. Wow. That would be horrible any year for us. But, especially this year - as I was out of work for six months due to covid (as so many were). What I am curious about is why? Why didn't anyone explain this birthday rule to us? Why was I able to add both of my children to my insurance without this random rule being brought up? And why after four years of my daughter being in network and covered - and premiums paid? We immediately found out my wife wasn't eligible - when she got a job - and took her off. Never was it conveyed that our children wouldn't be? They are not employees they are my kids. MPI acted like this was something wildly known and therefore didn't have to tell us. We should have known. But I've asked everyone I know and no one has ever heard of it? We have a pediatrician appt for our newborn in two weeks (we LOVE our pet) for a wellness check and to check his levels and now we need to find an all new pediatrician - through my wife's plan. I know that it has been a rough year for all. And that there are certainly many more terrible things happening out there in the world. Please know that we are grateful our kids are healthy and that we are both working. We are just trying to move forward with the best way to handle this for our little family so we can save enough to purchase a house some day. So we truly appreciate any help, feedback, and advice. Thanks! Blah. [link] [comments] |
liberty mutual bumping up house insurance by 20-30% each year? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:49 PM PST At one point in time they were decently priced but recently they doubled the car insurance for my two cars, and increased my house insurance by 20%. I suspect I'm $1-2k outside of the reasonable range. Is there a quick way to find out what a decent insurance price should be? thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Nov 2020 12:32 AM PST Comprehensive car insurance coverage question: I work retail and today's conference call warned us to be careful in case of riots. Is there any issue if I sign up for comprehensive insurance for a short term, at least until things with the election settle down, and then cancel when the risk is over? I only have 1 more week of work at this job....so I only need coverage for this 1 week before I stop driving again. Car is worth 7-9k, paid off. Currently have liability only, just upgraded insurance today for comprehensive coverage with $250 deductible for $80/6 month. I thought about $0 deductible, but I thought that might raise too much red flags. [link] [comments] |
Car insurance skyrocketed from $140 a month to $550 a month just from getting into a new lease? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 06:58 AM PST Hi all, first time here. I have an auto insurance called MetLife, and I been with them for a few years. I was in a lease for a 2018 Acura TLX and just hopped into a new lease of a 2020 Acura ILX. For some reason my premium skyrocketed quadruple the amount! They mentioned something along the lines of the dealership required full coverage and I wasn't getting full coverage before only liability. Yet I thought all leases are full coverage and could have sworn I had full coverage before. I also switching my home location to the Bronx, (coming from westchester county). It couldn't have quadrupled based upon that right? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2020 11:54 PM PST Southern California. While driving out of a parking lot a guy hit me me on my driver side. He was merging into my lane and did not look to his right. He was clearly at fault as he did not wait and was apparently distracted.Have dash cam video. Exchanged information and he offered to pay out of pocket to not get insurance involved. Is this a viable option? I only have a medium size dent. About 8 inches in length. No damage to his car was done. He said I could take it to this one specific shop and get it done. He will pay for everything. Should I just go through insurance? What are some things I should consider? Is this too risky? [link] [comments] |
Type 1 diabetic switching plans Posted: 02 Nov 2020 02:52 PM PST I've had Kaiser all my life, and now I must try my work's health plan because COBRA won't last forever and it's expensive (hopefully more expensive than what my costs will be once I make the switch...but I don't know how to even begin the attempt of such a calculation). I have approximately three trillion questions but for now will stick with: what are the benefits of a Health Savings Account? It just sounds to me like a very roundabout way of paying for one's own health care, without the help of insurance. [link] [comments] |
Who is the appropriate contact (insurance agent or insurance company [Lloyd's])? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 05:19 PM PST Hi, I own a vacation home in the US. There was a fire at the home and we have made an insurance claim. I recently received notice that the insurance coverage was being dropped for "failure to comply with recommendations." The reason given is pretty vague and I am trying to understand the specific recommendations that we 'failed to comply with.' My question is this: Should I contact my insurance agent so that he can contact Lloyd's to figure out the reasons for being dropped? Or should I contact Lloyd's directly to try to determine the specific reasons for being dropped (this seems like it would be a bureaucratic nightmare). Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Friend borrowed my car and got in an accident (I had cancelled my car insurance due to covid) Posted: 02 Nov 2020 10:48 PM PST Hi I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this but here goes: Back in March when covid hit I moved back to my home state of California, leaving Virginia. I left behind an apartment for which I still pay rent as well as my car. In August a friend hit me up asking to sublease the apartment (to which I agreed) as well as use my car. He pays me a monthly fee to use the car but he just recently got into an accident. He's taking responsibility for his actions but here's my issue. I cancelled my car insurance in March knowing that I won't be driving the car for a while and didn't want to spend $200/month on wasted car insurance. Knowing this, what should my plan be to mitigate my liability as well as cost my friend as little as possible. I'm not sure how his insurance will react to him driving a car for which the owner had no insurance. The people in the car he hit seem to only want to go through insurance. I told him I'm thinking the best bet is to play this off as if he and I came to an agreement to transfer ownership of the car but never got around to doing the paperwork. That way I get released from any liability and he can go through his insurance to fix up the car and take care of the other party. I don't know if this is a viable solution but at this point I have no idea what to do. Lesson learned but how should I handle this situation? What kinds of risks am I looking at as the owner of the vehicle? What should I do? [link] [comments] |
Can I insure my car to take it onto a race track? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 04:46 PM PST My car insurance doesn't cover me on race tracks, which I'm sure is pretty standard. I would like to have a day out on a race track with my car but I'd be worried about crashing so I'd like insurance, more in the event I damage someone else's car. According to google there is insurance for race cars which only drive on the track and I found a company which will insure you for named race events and even insurance for track days in cars you don't own but I want to take my car on. What would insurance to take my car on a track for a day be called? does it even exist? [link] [comments] |
Why do you always have to ask hospitals for itemized bills? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 06:33 PM PST My hospital always makes me call them if I want an itemized breakdown of charges. They just send a super generic bill with the gross amount and insurance adjustment. It seems like this unnecessarily complicates the process and prevents errors from being noticed. Or do I just have a bad hospital billing department? I'm in Wyoming but don't imagine the answer varies much from state to state. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:31 PM PST This is complicated so let me try to sort this mess out. I'll bulletpoint below since I'm a fan of bullet points.
For a car worth $3500, driven low miles (say 20 miles a week), what kind of insurance should I get? I want the cheapest possible from a reliable insurance company. And will my being out of work effect my ability to get insurance? (No tickets, no accidents, clean record). Thanks for any advice, I know this might seem obvious, but I've got brain fog from grief and just need a little guidance right now. Appreciate it a lot. *EDIT - If the car sits in the carport with no one driving it, is insurance still required? [link] [comments] |
Hypothetical car accident: Who would be at-fault? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:48 PM PST Hi everyone. I've been thinking of a scenario that happened to me about 6 months ago and I'm curious how the outcome could've been different. I was driving home on a 25 MPH road with a sedan in front of me. Suddenly, the passenger opened the car door while the vehicle was still moving and the driver came to a screeching dead stop in the middle of the road, skid marks and everything. They eventually pulled off into a parking lot. If I had to guess, the driver and the passenger had a big fight and forgot/didn't care that there were other people on the road. I managed to come to a stop behind them, but I'm wondering how fault might be distributed had I rear-ended them. I know generally that would be the second car's fault, but the situation was so outrageous that I was curious if there was any chance otherwise. Has anyone ever heard of a weird situation like that? [link] [comments] |
What can I expect in this situation (person claimed I hit their car and fled the scene) Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:35 PM PST [in NYC] Last week on my commute to work a car cut the car in front of me off causing him to slam on his brakes. I in turn slammed on my own brakes and stopped about a foot from the car in front of me. I was lucky I didn't hit him, but thankfully there was a decent amount of space between us (paranoid about damaging my fairly new car). Very soon after, the car in front of me pulled off to the left shoulder and I passed him. As soon as I passed him he pulled behind me and seemed to be following me. To test this, I pulled into the center lane and he pulled in behind me. I put on my left blinker to make it look like I was going to change lanes, he did the same. I started to move into the left lane but came fully back into my lane, the guy mimicked every thing I did. I asked myself, does this guy think I hit his car? About 30 seconds later I saw an opening in the right lane between 2 cars and moved quickly into the lane. The guy who was probably following me could not get in behind me and I breathed a sigh of relief. Five minutes later I am about to exit the highway to get on a bridge and I hear someone honking. I turn my head and it's the same guy! He pulls up next to me with his window rolled down and his cell phone waving around yelling something at me I can't make out. I look ahead and pretend I am not going to exit the highway. At the last possible moment (after checking no one is coming) I switch lanes very quickly and take the exit, making sure there is no way he can get in after me. The last thing I need is this crazy person following me all the way into Manhattan and then getting out of his car with a tire iron the second I am stopped at a red light. Okay, weird situation but it's over. Ten days later I get an email from my auto insurance telling me to update my claim. I say, huh? I didn't file a claim. I call the company and they say a claim was made against me because I allegedly rammed into the back of a car on the highway and then fled the scene. I gave my side of the story, I was scared of the unstable person that was chasing me all over the highway for at least 10 minutes after I DIDNT hit his car. So now I have to go an auto repair shop in a few days for the insurance adjuster to assess my vehicle. There is no damage to my car because I didn't hit his car. What can I expect in this situation? This guy just flat out lied about me hitting his car and now I have to take off work to go to this appointment. Are my rates going to go up? I'm a little freaked out, but I hope justice, or whatever that looks like in this situation, prevails [link] [comments] |
Studying for the OTL exam, any tips? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 07:01 PM PST I'm trying to study for the other than life insurance exam in Canada. I'm thinking about signing up for the pre-recorded class, offered by the Insurance Institute of Canada. Has anyone used it? Or are there any other places you would recommend studying with? I'm wondering if it's worth while, just because I've been in a lot of really bad online classes offered through OntarioLearn before. [link] [comments] |
Does this plan cover everything or nothing? Insurance confuses me Posted: 02 Nov 2020 06:35 PM PST The plan is bcbs nasco-sf The details are as follows and quoted how it is written(I really wish this sub allowed screenshots). I omitted anything that doesn't apply to me or says "not covered". My confusion comes from the fact that this is the cheaper of the two plan options I'm given and neither say anything about copay. The other plan has a deductible of $5000 per year but is $11 more per week Individual deductible: You pay $0 (per calendar year) Family deductible: You pay $0 (per calendar year) Prescription deductible: $0 Individual out-of-pocket maximum: $0 (per calendar year) Family out-of-pocket maximum: $0 (per calendar year) Lifetime maximum: $0 (per calendar year) Primary physician office visit: You pay $0 Specialist physician office visit: You pay $0 Generic Drug Prescription: Deductible: $0; Generic: $0; Preferred Brand: $0; Non-Preferred Brand: 100% of Allowed Wholesale Price; Preferred Specialty: Not Covered; Non-Preferred Specialty: Not Covered Preferred Brand Prescription: Deductible: $0; Generic: $0; Preferred Brand: $0; Non-Preferred Brand: 100% of Allowed Wholesale Price; Preferred Specialty: Not Covered; Non-Preferred Specialty: Not Covered Non Preferred Brand Prescription: Deductible: $0; Generic: $0; Preferred Brand: $0; Non-Preferred Brand: 100% of Allowed Wholesale Price; Preferred Specialty: Not Covered; Non-Preferred Specialty: Not Covered Preventive Care: You pay $0 Urgent Care Center: You pay $0 Well Child Care: You pay $0 (including exams & immunizations) [link] [comments] |
At fault while driving friend’s car Posted: 02 Nov 2020 02:45 PM PST I got into a minor accident driving a friends car. I am being encouraged to pay out of pocket but I'm trying to determine my best option since I'm a broke student. Here's some details: If we do an insurance claim, the deductible is $1000 but my friends car was recently crashed before me and I would likely have to pay premium differences for my friend which could be a lot. Out of pocket: my friend repairs his car for $800 at a family friend shop and I pay him and the other driver for repairs to her car. The problem: although her damage looked very minimal, her estimate came out to around $2000 plus the cost of a rental car for four+ days. While I am no car expert I don't think I even touched parts of her car quoted on the estimate. The damage literally looked like only paint (I understand it could be different). Should I ask for another estimate? Also, someone mentioned a courtesy car but I don't know if that is a thing with out of pocket repairs. If you have any advice please say it. This is my first experience dealing with insurance. The potential cost of my small mistake is really eating me up on the inside right now, so I just want to handle it as well as possible. Edit: location: KS, USA [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2020 12:21 PM PST I've been working hard for a decent amount of time until, ive saved up a good amount of money and now im 18. I'd like to purchase a Nissan 370z and im getting my license soon so i plan on getting insurance soon as-well. The quotes i've recieved are around 1500-2500, which is fucking stunning. Im going to finance my car to build my credit instead of paying in full but what the the fuck is that insurance costs?? I'm in shock. I practically wont be able to get a new car if that's the case. Thats a monthly payment by the way lol. Is this real? What am i suppose to do? I get i am a new driver and young but i expected 600-700 a month. not 1500-2500, and thats 3 different quotes lowest to highest. edit: im in NYC Queens [link] [comments] |
Ceiling collapsed during hurricane zeta, should I recover my pc? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 02:10 PM PST A tree fell on my room and pretty much destroyed the place. With no roof my electronics were in the rain all night. I want to get my pc to see if it works but I'm afraid that if I remove it from the room then I won't be able to claim it on the insurance if it is ruined. What should I do? Edit: I'm in Georgia. Michigan - Listed vs Excluded Driver Posted: 02 Nov 2020 05:34 PM PST Hello r/Insurance, I have been following this group since some months ago. This is my first post here with 3 questions. I was quoting for car insurance (Michigan) while I found this article saying basically that excluded drivers don't get PIP benefits in my state. "excluded drivers are not entitled to be paid Michigan no-fault benefits." "the vehicle would then be considered uninsured under the no-fault law, making the owner of the vehicle possibly guilty of a misdemeanor and subject to penalties and fines." https://www.1800leefree.com/blog/michigan-no-fault-excluded-drivers/ (It seems from a law firm and it actually have references to a .mi.gov site) My wife doesn't have a driver license. She never drives and doesn't seem interested to learn in the short term. In my current auto policy, she appears as "listed only" not as insured driver. While quoting on Progressive website, it allows me to select: Insured driver - Ask for license or permit Or Non insured driver: - Listed only - out of country - Listed only - Driver under 21 never licensed - Excluded driver (No coverage) Here are my questions for you: 1.- What is the difference between list only and excluded driver? 2.- What is the right option for me considering she never drives and doesn't have license? 3.- By appearing as listed only will she gets medical benefits in case of an accident while she is a passenger? It's my understanding that under non fault state, my own insurance should pay for her. [link] [comments] |
Question for anyone who uses Florida Blue? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 04:29 PM PST When you try to renew your plan and it asks you to update your Marketplace information, do you get a message that says "Access to the specified resource has been forbidden?" [link] [comments] |
Car insurance: can I request them to total my car, and should I? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 04:22 PM PST Recently got into a car accident and received the update on repair costs today. We originally planned to buy a new car in the next 6-12 months to size up whenever we are able to get pregnant, but now we're wondering whether to try to ask insurance to total the car and walk away from this vehicle or to have it repaired and try to sell it down the road, despite it having been in an accident. Here's the numbers, rounded: Car repairs $3000 Insurance deductible $750 Insurance will pay: $2250 Car loan: $5000 Car value: $4500-6000 based on KBB private party It seems like we should just try to sell it after it's been repaired ... thoughts? Homeowner's insurance minimum requirements Posted: 02 Nov 2020 04:08 PM PST (TX) In order to get a homeowner's policy, how habitable does the house need to be? We're building a rural house ourselves and are beyond the time we can get a builder's risk policy. We've got lights, a sink, and a toilet, but not a kitchen, hot water, or bath. Does this pass the bar needed to consider it a home? I'd sure love to get it insured once we've got propane hooked up. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2020 03:55 PM PST Hoping to find someone who has some experience with renters insurance. Someone broke into my storage unit and I'm currently going though trying to remember what was in there, and what was missing, find receipts ect.... Any curve balls the insurance company might throw at me I should be prepared for? I'm just worried I'm going to get my list submitted and they are going to come back with a low ball offer. Insurance policy is out of Colorado but storage unit was in another state. [link] [comments] |
2017 Chevy Colorado- total loss? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 03:51 PM PST Question. Had damage to my Colorado by hitting a deer. In South Dakota. 12,500 worth of damage. Car is a 2017 Colorado in pretty decent shape, books at about 21-23k. The damage could go higher as they said they didn't pop the hood and might see more they need to fix. Chances it's a total loss? I'm not good with this stuff but on pins and needles wondering. [link] [comments] |
