Posted: 01 Nov 2020 07:39 PM PST Hi all, I've been in public accounting for about 5 years at a firm ranked 15-25 depending on source. I work in tax and recently made manager. I live in a medium cost of living city and am only making in the upper $60s for comp and that's led me to consider leaving. The main thing holding me up is I'm the only person in my office who specializes in a certain industry and I have a pretty clear shot to the top. That doesn't seem to mean much if I'm grossly underpaid and can't even afford a house at manager level though in my opinion. Does that seem logical? Anyways, I don't have any big 4 in my city but I have most other firms. My first pick is Backer Tilly though as they're looking for someone with my skill set and they're big in my area (Wisconsin). Do any of you work for them? I'm curious how you liked the culture, how are raises/bonuses, hours, etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]

Anyone here that landed accounting/finance jobs in FAANG tech companies? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 07:02 AM PST I want to land an accounting job in one of the biggest tech companies in the world(Facebook,Amazon,Apple,Netflix,Google, Twitter, AirBnB, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Lyft, Uber, etc.) Have any accounting professionals been able to land accounting/finance jobs in high level tech industry? What is your experience, was it easy to land the role, did they give you permanent work from home option, do we get paid similar compared to the software engineers, what is your stock compensation and total compensation? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 06:51 PM PST Is there any benefits from being assigned all the hard clients? I've been scheduled on all the difficult engagements while my friends are getting the chilled clients. Wouldn't hurt to get some easy billables in the rotation. Is everyone communicating something that I'm not? [link] [comments]
How do I interview for a leadership position when I have never been in a leadership role? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 02:01 PM PST Quick background: worked in public accounting for four years. Worked as a volunteer treasurer aat a nonprofit for two years. I am the only bookkeeper at the nonprofit. The position I am interviewing for is another public accounting firm. They are asking for five years experience total and asking for leaders who can think outside the box. The recruiter was actually the person who found me on Linkedin and requested an interview. I have always been staff throughout my career. I have never actually managed anyone or led a team. Any advice would be appreciated. If you want to ask more info, I will update. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Nov 2020 07:10 AM PST Hey everyone! Recently I was offered a staff accountant position at a pharm company for a 20% raise + better benefits. I've been at B4 for a little over 1 year now, and am looking to jump ship and transition into industry for steadier work/life balance, etc. I've also passed all my CPA exams. Here's the catch: the accounting team at the company is a handful of people (I'll be the only staff) and the business is going through a rapid growth phase. The company was also quick to offer me the role (within a week) after rounds of interviews (seems like they're in need of a junior pretty quick). I'll be doing typical month/quarter ends, etc. Part of me is dubious about accepting-- I'm scared of getting into another position where I'll be going through the same B4 grind given that the team is so small and seems to wear multiple hats (i'll admit though, B4 has been such a mentally exhausting experience to the point that my own fears/inhibitions get in the way of me seeing the larger picture in transitioning from public > industry). Sometimes I feel like my own fear of getting burned again is holding me back and causing me to overthink things way too much. But part of me is also very curious to see the larger picture of accounting outside of B4 public and in the pharm space (I think there's plenty to learn that'll be mentally stimulating). I also absolutely cannot go through a 4th busy season this coming winter (this year has taken a tremendous toll on my mental/physical health). What do yall think-- should I take the chance and accept the position? Any advice/input is much appreciated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Nov 2020 07:27 PM PST Audit offer is lower by almost 20% (which is a huge difference), but I am kind of worried about the exit opportunities in technology risk vs audit if I want to become a financial analyst or go into industry accounting later on. Any advice on pros and cons? Also info about your own experience from either would be helpful! [link] [comments]
Anyone else feel paralyzed by their workload? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 06:59 PM PST I've been sitting at my computer for the past 4 hours, actively trying to get a head start to the week, close things out and review things completed by staff. But every file I look at just makes my todo list longer. I'm so tired of this. No matter how many hours I put in, I'm always fucking behind. [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Nov 2020 09:47 PM PST Hey everybody, so the school I'm going to offers an Online Bachelor's in Business Administration in Accounting degree that Im going for. It's fully accredited and supposed.to be a good business program, but it specifies that it's online in the degree. Is that bad? Also, is the BBA part bad or weird? It would have recorded lectures that I can view online. I can't commute to school and this is my only option right now. My career goals are to graduate and get into industry while I wait on a spot in government to open up. I would hope to work for the feds but would work for the state or county to get into government if the pay was worth it. Not looking to work in public because I don't want to work all those hours. PLEASE HELP!!! Should I take a job offer with fortune 200 company out of school or take Big 4? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 09:13 PM PST Brown nosing and office politics are everywhere, but Big 4 takes it to the next level. I can't stand these lying mfs. I don't wanna work 16 hours days and 80-100 hour weeks. I've heard about FLDPs and recently attended an event to consider interning at a tech F200 company; I could enter as a staff accountant and work my way up. I've looked on LinkedIn and I have seen people start at staff accountant move their way up to manager all without public. I don't want to work public but I also don't want to be pigeholed with no options and end up working with a bunch of morons and idiots at crappy places for the rest of my life? I know it seems like I want it all, cuz I do. I want to go with an FLDP or straight into Corporate Accounting without all the public bs. Is this a bad idea? Do you think I will have good career progression? Or is it really just public or bust? I am currently a sophomore and I am lucky to have been exposed to so much so early. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments]

Salary Range for Seasonal Audit Senior? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 08:30 PM PST What do you guys think is an appropriate salary range for a seasonal audit senior in California? The average salary in my area for an audit senior is about 80-85K per year (DOE) , but since the position is seasonal (Jan-April 15) and pays overtime, I am struggling trying to find which $ per hour is appropriate. Any insight would be appreciated ; can't find any info on Glassdoor either. [link] [comments] |
