Why I don't browse this sub-reddit anymore Posted: 25 Oct 2020 09:26 AM PDT Does anyone else just enter a trance of "stfu" whenever you see a post titled 7 things you MUST do to succeed! 2 things that are signs you will FAIL Or those posts littered with shitty blog posts from people who just analyse other businesses and have clearly never tried to start something of their own. Now this isn't just another shit-talking post, I do want to give people advice on how I still view content on this sub-reddit filtered, to make sure I receive the best content, from people who actually know what they're talking about. Follow users on Reddit (Not me, I hardly ever post and when I do it's BS) This is my personal account, but I've been a subscriber to startups, entrepreneur, business for close to 4 years now and all sub reddits face the same problem. I got familiar with active users, who actually know their shit, have ran/ are running successful businesses currently, and who genuinely give some of the best advice to randomers online that I've ever seen. Just simply follow these accounts, bonus points if they are fairly active, this means you can get more of a feed daily on questions they've responded to, or advice they've given. This is how I find my mentors. Also don't dm them, that's annoying as fuck. A comment on one of their posts/comment regarding that specific topic that they're talking about is fine however. Anyways, this is how I filter what I see on these subreddits and I thought it could potentially help a lot of people. Which accounts should you follow? Anyone who is not actively promoting their blog/business/etsy store lol.. Take a look at their posts, take a look at their links, are they on average all pointing to the same domain? Fuck them, these are people just trying to get eyeballs. They could be trying to help people out, but I've found 9/10 they're just full of shit (just like that fraction is full of shit) The gem accounts provide nuggets of wisdom everytime they "speak", however they only "speak" on occasions when they know what they're talking about and it shows. These shitty blogs need to CHURN out content if they want to make their blog generate any revenue, the majority of the shit they post has been regurgitated thousands of times. These gem accounts can sometimes link to things outside of Reddit, but you'll always notice that almost always 2 links are never the same, two YouTube videos are never posted by the same account etc.. they're not trying to benefit from your eyeballs and likes. TLDR: Follow accounts on Reddit and start viewing comments/posts that they only respond to, some of these users provide really good advice to people, and most are fairly active which means if you have a question about their viewpoint on a post/comment, it can be really easy to state your opinions and get a response back. Edit: Also another advantage, is that sometimes these gem accounts will reply to some of the shittest posts imaginable, but they do so in a way that they're actually teaching the poster, and in doing so they teach them the errors in their thinking, and in many occasions, you as a reader learn something even then. Console and PC cleaning.... determining price Posted: 25 Oct 2020 01:18 AM PDT Hi guys, Recently I've been toying with the idea of starting to push a little side hustle cleaning PC's / Laptops / gaming consoles.. It's not something that's new to me and I could realistically strip a console clean and put back together in an hour on cruise control. My issue is determining a cleaning price for a PC/ laptop... consoles are easy $50 matching what ebgames charges but with a shorter turnaround. It's not going to make me millions, but it's something I don't mind doing so I figured if anything it's easy beer money. Any insight into what's being charged for pc cleans I'm all ears. Need help - the product is getting better but the revenues are going down Posted: 25 Oct 2020 01:41 PM PDT Hello, I owe a health and fitness app portfolio since 2013. Not long ago the portfolio was making close to $20k/mo, but times changed and the competitors moved the bar higher. I opened a company and there is a team of people developing the whole platform. Every month the platform grows and there are new features, it became close to the biggest competitors feature-wise. The product is getting better and better as time is passing, there are some good ideas to get realized, but as the space is growing it's hard to get loyal users. The sales have gone down, though we have backed them up with analytics. I feel that I'm running in circles with it, I would consider even to give a % of the company to someone just to solve the issue and help me make it the no1 health and fitness portfolio. There is a s*** ton of potential here and I know that it can make at least $1million/mo from the current user base, but I'm stuck. I'm not making obvious mistakes, I've been in the space since 2013 but I'm making a mistake somewhere. HELP! [link] [comments] |

Is TransferWise Borderless Account The Way To Go For Startup Accepting Multi-Currencies? Posted: 25 Oct 2020 06:23 AM PDT I am UK based and currently looking at options in anticipation of accepting payments from oversees in USD and EUR. Having done some research it seems like Transferwise, in particular their Borderless Business Account is the best way to go, as it acts as a normal business account whereby you can accept multiple currencies and are able to convert them to your domestic currency at the real mid market rate with Transferwise's small fee and send to your domestic business bank account. By all comparison data I've seen this seems to be the much cheaper option than having any USD or EUR go straight to your domestic multi currency account and having the bank do the conversion for which they dictate their own exchange rate usually with a sizeable mark up. Only drawback I can see of Transferwise is the limit on receiving USD in a year is $5m which I guess is a nice problem to have if you do have that kind of revenue, but what do you do after that limit is reached - just go with the bank's exchange rate or use a mix of other Transferwise alternatives? Would be great to hear anybody's experience in using Transferwise Borderless Account in comparison to a usual multi currency bank account, particularly from anybody with a business in the UK accepting EUR and/or USD. Also what has your experience been like using it with Stripe as your payment processor and accepting payments to it from a Google Play developer account? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Oct 2020 05:30 PM PDT I've learned that the best leaders have two impenetrable traits about them that carry them seamlessly through the channels of success - any business, organization, charity - it doesn't matter. It can be your favorite baseball team, your favorite football team, it could be your favorite church. It doesn't matter. At the head of such organizations, there's someone who is a master at these two qualities. On the contrary however, mismanagement or lack of these qualities will result in defeat. It's inevitable. The first quality: The ability to efficiently utilize resources. Resources are what makes the engine go. It's the driving force behind any measure of success - it's the pieces that create the whole. A phenomenal leader is well equipped in understanding how to effectively utilize his resources. Let me give you a few examples:
One example I'd like to use is Head Coach Nick Saban at Alabama. If you know anything about College Football, you know about the Crimson Tide. I mean they are seriously the definition of a Juggernaut. Every single year, year after year they are a competitor. You never hear of them sucking it up. If they lose, it's like a Super Bowl victory to the winning team because of how great of an accomplishment it is to have defeat them. His number one job is to effectively utilize his resources (players, coaches). Each year, he loses a large group star players that go off to play in the NFL, yet, he's still able to maintain success. He's able to adequately deploy players exactly where they need to be in order for his team to be successful, year after year. His ability to effectively utilize his resources is what makes him successful. However, his ability to efficiently utilize his resources is only one piece of the equation. Someone who can move talent around, and allow talent to play well or perform well is essentially a good manager, at best... But what about weathering the storm? What about when all hell breaks loose and your back is against the wall…when there is no funding, when the team has completely given up, when your A player doesn't show, when something tragic happens…how do you save face? The second quality phenomenal leaders have is: The ability to be Resourceful. As simple as it may seem, this is vast in its entirety… The ability to be resourceful is so much more than gathering necessary resources to perform… it's so much more I'm referring to the internality of it all
Now this…This is the grit that every leader must have to truly be a success...Think of anyone that has achieved any amount of success working alongside a team, organization, or business... You will find it true that they've mastered these qualities. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Oct 2020 09:03 AM PDT Hi! I was wondering if anyone may have advice around how they may overcome severe adhd in the process of building a business. Im a solo founder. I'm perpetually distracted. I've tried leveraging that part of myself and it helps as far as creativity is concerned or hyper focus in select moments, but otherwise things are quite difficult. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Oct 2020 01:53 PM PDT My mom is forcing me to go to college. I'm planning to dropout the second I have enough money to live completely on my own. What are the most cost effective options? Online? Community? State? I guess I'll fake majoring in business, so maybe I'll learn something before I eventually drop out. FYI: • I've made some money (30k in profits) from dropshipping stores over the course of a year. I'm in the works of building an actual brand versus selling "hot products". • 4.0 GPA • 1440 SAT • At the end of the year, I would have completed 7 APs • I'm a junior (11/12) • I had decent extracurriculars (robotics/soccer), but have since stopped to focus on business. What do you think? PS- Please don't say "you're ruining your life please go be a doctor or something" because I'm willing to eat actual shit everyday for the next 5 years to reach financial freedom. The dedication is there. [link] [comments] |
The infinite thread of wisdom for entrepreneurs ... Posted: 25 Oct 2020 01:36 PM PDT Great resources transcend time. They were true in the 1900s, they're true now, they'll be true when Lord Elon takes us to Mars. I'm sure there are many I'm not aware of. Enlighten me in the comments :) Nathan Latka is so smart, he almost makes you feel like an ape. Here's his awesome post on getting 1 Million podcast downloads Harry Dry's Marketing Examples drives tremendous value without wasting your time. He's also a master storyteller. And what's better than a Kanye West Story? When Seth Godin speaks, I listen. Louis Grenier did this amazing interview with Seth and asked him how he'd launch a new business with $1000 and 90 days to spare? We've all asked some interation of this question. Here's Seth's answer Shaan Puri hosts My First Million podcast, and he has spent a decade learning these 12 frameworks for founders. If he charged $50 for it, I'd pay. But it's free, so I'll take it while I can Rahul Vohra wrote this timeless piece on product-market fit. Every founder should read it. Could probably save you months, if not years. Paul Graham wrote Do Things That Don't Scale back in 2013. It is as relevant today, as it was back then. Who does a detailed 76-page user onboarding case study and gives away for free? Gene Maryushenko wrote this detailed case on Netflix. He's working on Hulu. Awesome. I've used this resource over and over again. I wouldn't be doing the podcast if it weren't for the generosity of entrepreneurs like Pat Walls. "I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it's been" - Wayne Gretzky Justin Jackson, founder of TransistorFM recommended Business is like Surfing a few days back. I hope the link works for years to come. The internet is the wild west. You never know when it might surprise you. When it does, I'll add that awesome link to this thread Your recommendations are welcome :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Oct 2020 01:11 PM PDT Which restaurant do you think is going to give you the better experience: A facebook group I belong to invited everyone to share their services, for other group members to consider working with them. Here are some of the responses: "We offer different digital marketing services: Branding, Social Media Management, FB Ads, Web Design with Elementor" "My agency is one stop solution for all the digital needs. Website design & development, Content Creation, Building online presence (Reputation Management), Video Creation (Editing, 2D & 3D Animation) and Graphic Designing" "SEO, Live Chat, Facebook, Google Adwords, Mobile Websites, Graphic Artist...." (this one actually went on and on with many more services). Contrast these responses with these offerings: If you're just getting started in online business, and especially if you're in the digital marketing space, know this: When you offer a long list of services, with no specific target market, you will be perceived as mediocre at all of them. The only way such a business survives is by being the cheapest. That means it's simply a race to the bottom, competing with other similar businesses. Eventually you'll either have created a really terrible job for yourself, or you'll go out of business. When you offer a single in-demand service to a specific target market, that market will buy from you. Over time, you'll refine your product or service based on customer feedback and do a better and better job of serving your target market. Your market will perceive your business as exactly what they were looking for, and they'll be willing to pay a premium price since you will be perceived to be worth the cost. If this post resonates with you, I would recommend reading the excellent book Built To Sell. It shows the power of transitioning from being an "everything business" to a highly specialized business that thrives. About Me: I share business advice for online business owners through my private FB group Anywhere Millionaire. [link] [comments] |
Should I consider a shipping consolidator for my business? Posted: 25 Oct 2020 12:56 PM PDT I ship 20 x 15 x 12-inch boxes weighing 26 lbs. I am getting killed by fedex. I ship about 1-3 times a week, but if I can bring my shipping rate down then I can lower my price and increase my volume. I understand my packages may be a bit big. [link] [comments] |
advice needed for accepting non-negiotiable cash payments Posted: 25 Oct 2020 12:53 PM PDT Hello, I am selling hand-made surfboards out of my garage. Every time sometimes comes to buy one, they see it's just me, a sole proprietor, and try to start haggling the price. Any advice for letting my customers know in advance, I am a legitimate business, price is non-negotiable 99% of the time? Especially for strangers. Also, then they'll leave for the bank, or bust on a wad of cash. Maybe I need to start considering accepting other payment methods. Anyone can recommend a credit card reader that I can take with me? Maybe Venmo? But that doesn't seem business-like. PayPal? If they're right here with me....should I just get a register with change and everything, write them a receipted bill of sale? Posted: 24 Oct 2020 10:58 PM PDT I am struggling with it myself and mostly because my parents aren't understanding what importance of college is... I am constantly getting anxiety, depression, panicking and other mental health problems for something I am not even Interested in doing... During the pandemic when college was shut. I have tried my best to PROVE to my parents that whenever I focus on myself and my business I increase my self worth and create assets not only in term of money but my mental health too! I've learnt soo many skills and gained soo much knowledge about life and business that its totally visible to them but they're just saying I need to get that degree WITH a good percentage to be able to (I believe) satisfy them. But that's still ok but getting a good percentage is quite difficult for me, I've been a quite average kid since my childhood I scored always between 50%-70% in high school and college but they are asking to get atleast 80. I am constantly working each day and try to be more productive but on the other hand my parents force me to study and spend my time there... which then leads me towards procastinating and leaning backwards cuz I my parents do let me do what I wanna do and I don't want to do what my parents want me to do. And the situation is getting worse and worse I still have almost 2 years left and I don't know how to keep myself healthy and motivated everyday. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Oct 2020 11:13 AM PDT I'm exploring a pay over time / monthly payment option for my products. Since the product is north of $5k, I'd like to do a soft credit pull of the customer. I don't want to get the name and SSN from information. Too much business risk. Is there a service that allows me to email a credit pull application to a buyer that they can securely sign up, and I get the report on my end ? I believe a rental credit check May be an option but in all cases I've seen, it wants the landlord to enter the details. I am looking for a consumer facing app that the tenant / buyer does. Also needs to be a soft pull, not a hard pull. Thanks [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Oct 2020 10:08 AM PDT Hey guys, I'm doing some research on how startups (and businesses with less than 30 staff) hire. The aim of the survey is to find out if you use in-house resources to hire, or pay for an external agency to hire for you. I also want to research the pros and cons for using external recruiters. With COVID transforming the framework of how businesses work, and the rise in remote roles, it also aims to understand how startups are hiring for these roles and the problems that come with it. The survey shouldn't take more than 2 minutes, and I really would be grateful if you could do it as it will help my research a lot! If you have any questions or comments then please don't hesitate to get in touch. Thanks in advance! Here's the link: https://i-intro.typeform.com/to/mEXZt21v [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Oct 2020 09:52 AM PDT So originally I bought a dessert truck and was originally going to sell gelatos and sorbets that costed under 10k. Unfortunately had to sell it due to covid and got 13k. Me and my wife are thinking about doing a patisserie that would be selling macroons, cream puffs, bon bons etc and of course gelatos and sorbets. And at night a dessert bar, drink and dessert pairings. However we are having doubts due to everything and rent cost. We have 10k for potential investments but still not sure. Any good options ?
