Another firm with same name, product and concept Posted: 30 Oct 2020 02:33 PM PDT Hello. I have an ecommerce startup of my own in the US. One of our customers sent us a question asking us if we had operations in India. We do not. They pointed me to the website of a startup in India with the exact same name and the exact same concept as ours - every single idea/belief we stand for is something they have also put on their "our values" section. They've just reworded it. This Indian website seems to have been launched recently (per their "about us" section). We have been around much longer. My client who alerted me wanted to gift some stuff to their family in India and they actually thought that the other site was just our Indian operation. A lot of our clientele consists of folks wanting to gift to family in India. I am concerned there might be other customers who might mistake this Indian company to be ours. And it's too much of a coincidence for them to have the exact same name, product and concept. Considering that my startup is in the US and they are in India, do I have any legal options against this company? I will consult with our attorneys next week but wanted to see if any of you has experienced something like this. [link] [comments] |
Good video on starting and scaling a hardware startup (prusa) Posted: 31 Oct 2020 01:57 AM PDT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xX3pDDi9PeU IMPORTANTLY to many on this subreddit: Notice it's taken them 10 years to get where they are now. Rome wasn't built in a day. Notice some of their marketing techniques such as shipping stickers + gummy bears (relatively small cost on a high cost product). Early partner provided good customer service. They make the printers and the filament, run classes, have a database of print files for download. Today their products form an ecosystem but it didn't start out that way. [link] [comments] |
Recent blog startup, struggling with traffic Posted: 31 Oct 2020 01:53 AM PDT Hi, recently my co-writer and I started a blog (Brambles and Fungus). (obviously) We have the potential to attract lots of traffic. In the near future, we want to extend our writing with a podcast and with some visual support (photography, art). However, at the moment, we struggle with getting traffic. We have a Facebook page with some 200+ followers. We're still working on some visual templates we can use on Instagram (so no serious account there yet) and want to wait with a Linkedin launch until the podcast is ready. We try to share posts on relevant Facebook pages and Reddit pages, but that's about it. Facebook is spamming me with promotion discounts etcetera, but for some reason, I don't really have faith in paying Facebook for marketing. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
Getting stuck with the no result Posted: 31 Oct 2020 01:40 AM PDT Hello guys, Hope you all are doing well. I have recently left my job to start my own business since the previous company no longer needed me. So, I take a big step from an employee to be a business owner with all the remaining saving I have got. I founded an advanced technological based hearing aid care business with competitive price to the current markets that offer people to buy hearing aid at half of the price compare to the transitional clinic, and they no longer needed to visit a clinic as there is Telehealth that help them while staying at home during this pandemic. However, it seems not much people are not interested in my business model in the current market (or I have no make enough promotion for the market) so the company has no profit at all, even in debt at the moment, which affecting my daily living as well (since I spend a lot of time and money on this business). BUT I would not give up on this business as I believed this is the major path for future audiology industry (Telehealth and over-the-counter hearing aids), and traditional clinics are far expensive and people cannot afford their hearing aids. And now, the problem has rises, I am facing out of money that affecting my life. I am running out of money and can not sustain my daily living. I am in a situation that I wanted to pause this business for a while , and start another "possible" profitable business to sustain my daily living before I can continue my main business. Do you recommend me to pause my main business and generate some sort of profit before I continue my main business? As I always heard of that we should only focus on one main thing? I am kind of in a dilemma situation that my passion and my resources are not align, and hard to sustain my living or passion. Plus, I am not sure that "possible" profitable business could be profitable as well. Is it a good idea to pause this business for a while until I have generate another source of income? Thank you all in advance [link] [comments] |
How could I promote a small-time online shop where I sell pieces of my work (creative writing)? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:09 AM PDT Hello everyone, this is my first post here so don't kill me if the questions I'm asking are dumb. There was a time I was quite active when it comes to creative writing and I thought a way to regain my motivation is finding a way to monetize it. I'm not looking for anything big, but rather something to trickle a few dollars into my account now and then. Basically, I want a small passive income out of it, I don't have thoughts or plans of making it big at the moment. I've experimented with creating a small online store on a platform called shoppy (I chose this platform due to it being widespread on a certain website where I tried to promote it - to little to no success as most users simply were interested in other things). To be more direct, how could I promote such an online shop so that I can monetize those works? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm a total newbie to this whole thing. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Oct 2020 01:06 AM PDT New clothing brand Hi, Just wondering if I could get some advice from you guys, I'm a graphic designer full time but in lockdown wanted to start something for myself on the side with something I'm interested in also and I launched my clothing brand the other week, I've managed to about double my Instagram following up from 70ish and getting a few visitors to my website but not many are actually buying products, Not sure if just need to be patient, keep trying to grow a following and it will come or if there is more I need to do My site is https://rc-apparel.co.uk [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Oct 2020 09:14 AM PDT I'm looking for some inspiration to set my KPIs, so I'd like to know what KPIs are popular, and also ways of keeping track of them. Manually checking seems frustrating, and also it would be nice to have some historical data to compare to, but I want to have as less administration as possible. Also, how often do you check your KPIs? [link] [comments] |
Founders and Lack of Support from Friends/Family - what happens later? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 05:10 PM PDT Founders/entrepreneurs are often open about the rejection they faced getting started but most that I've listened to say they had a pretty core support group, e.g. family, partners and friends. Personally I'm shocked how unsupportive my family and friends are, except for my teen daughter - she's my biggest fan (my mom passed away but she would have been a psycho fan, haha). She sent me a video of a successful (small) founder who talked about exactly that. How people just don't understand the product, startups, business, etc. so they don't do anything at all and pretty much insult you. So what happens if a founder actually becomes successful? I imagine there's a variety of reactions, but having worked in the entertainment businesses, I know even a mild amount of success will make people come around again. Considering my personal situation, I don't think I would entertain them.... Any experiences or stories out there? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Oct 2020 04:47 PM PDT I'm an aspiring entrepreneur and was looking into testing a product before making it. According to examples I saw on physical products you would usually put it on google adds and they would link to your website. Then you would say the product is currently backlogged, but with a digital product you can't do it (that I'm aware of). What would I say? [link] [comments] |
Ask slide on slide deck - to round or not to round? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 03:43 PM PDT We've received conflicting advice about the ask number from some fairly experienced people. 1 thinks that rounding up to a significant round number looks best to investors. Rationale:
The other feels that if you make the number specific looking - so actual projected budget + some pad - it looks best. Rationale:
What has been you all's experience? Is it worth trying to figure out (not sure how yet ;) ) what type of ask a particular investor might prefer and showing that version? What tends to show best at pitch competitions and the like? Would doing something like a headline of the big, round number with a number detailed to 1 decimal point below that make sense or too busy for a pitch deck designed around a short pitch (3 minutes or so) presentation? Looking for extensive databases Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:43 AM PDT Hi there, For our mvp we need lots of dummy data and I am currently looking for large databases but have not found any good ones. Does anyone know of a place where I can find extensive databases or lists of the following:

How to access cap table information? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 12:39 PM PDT Is the SEC website the best way to find this info or is there a more simple way? I am having a bit of trouble accessing the Form S-1 on a company I am trying to look up. I have a live streaming concert startup and am Doing research on who has invested into this this industry in the past. [link] [comments] |
Planning to launch my first SAAS product(MVP). Worried users might not like it Posted: 30 Oct 2020 05:35 AM PDT Hello everyone, I am planning to launch my first SAAS product this week. It is still an MVP. I am worried that the users might not like it as the product does not have few features they would expect. My product is a monitoring tool for cron jobs and scheduled tasks. It will monitor and notify the users if they stopped working. The monitoring and notification part is completed and working. I am planning on implementing additional features like weekly reports, status page, etc. Do I wait until it is finished completely? Or shall i launch it as it is, as it covers the important aspect of monitoring and notification? I am offering more value and less price compared to my competitors. But still worried that users might not be interested in switching. Is this common? Did you feel the same way when you launch your first product? Please advise. [link] [comments] |

As a startup grows into a corporate ,how do they manage all the stuff for example Facebook, Mark is from a tech background,as the facebook grew how did he manage to get more innovative features in facebook like stories, games etc does he plan all the features himself or he hires people to update facebook with the growing tech?? (if he hires, what is the team called??) Who plans what startup will facebook be acquiring ?? Who researches about the startup for facebook (I mean the professtion of person who does that)??Who plans the structure of facebook as company?? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 04:56 AM PDT Hi community, I want to understand the 'thinking behind the thinking' of startup equity. I have been told that the way equity is structured can determine the success of a startup. We wish to create a company where equity is fair (equitable) to the contribution to the startup whether it is execution of ideas or productivity. So, how should we frame our minds around thinking about this subject? I guess I would like to get down to the philosophy of it before the 'how to' part. Thank you for any guidance! How to begin a Trash bin cleaning service Posted: 30 Oct 2020 04:36 AM PDT Planning to start a trash bin cleaning side hustle Hey y'all so I wanted to start a trash bin cleaning side hustle to get more experience and connect with people. I'm currently 19 and have about 1k saved up and would like to ask how can I start? I live in a mobile home park with mostly old people so I could go around asking people if I could clean their trash cans for 20 per household. Is there a place I can rent a machine to wash these and how would I go about starting this? Any advice would help thank you! [link] [comments] |
How do I go about a startup whilst not having technical skills? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 02:55 AM PDT So I'm a student pursuing Bachelor's degree in Interaction Design and my main job is to solve problems, hence I end up with certain solutions for problems I find around me. I can envision what my project could offer to other businesses or people but I don't have the technical skills to build one, despite knowing a lot of no-code tools. How do I go about this? Where do I find people to help me build it? I just want it to be a project for now and then probably scale it up with funding or something. [link] [comments] |
