Posted: 22 Oct 2020 06:25 AM PDT A lot of restaurateurs are unfamiliar with the chargeback process of third party delivery, especially those that just jumped on the bandwagon during the coronavirus lockdowns. You need to be aware that all consumers have to do to get an instant full refund (charged back to you, the restaurant) is click a few buttons and provide absolutely no proof. This is true of Doordash and Grubhub specifically. The simplicity to get free meals has become very well known now and delivery fraud has steadily increased this year for us as a result. What used to be once every other week became once a week and is now 2-5 times per day. The delivery apps refuse to do anything to monitor or block these people. They claim they have "a process", but I routinely contest the same names in the same week (and sometimes the same day) so it's obvious nothing is ever actually done to deactivate the instant-refund feature for anyone. I'm sure some of it is driver error and driver theft, but the current rate far exceeds that being the only explanation. This is especially true considering we use tamper-evident bags and some items are inaccessible without obvious major tampering. Per month, it can exceed $1000+ in lost revenue if you're not arming yourself against fraud. You, the restaurant, is assumed totally at fault almost 100% of the time and gets the chargeback. Thankfully, we no longer have any issues with contesting it to the apps' merchant support; it's just a pain to do everyday. I suggest you all create a similar setup if you examine your reports and find yourself in a similar dilemma:
A $300 camera dual camera system has saved us thousands of dollars in fraudulent chargebacks over the last few months. Screenshot the video footage as attachments with timestamps visible to merchant support and you won't have an issue getting it overturned. Once the apps start having to pay both the zero-evidence fraud claims and the restaurant that provides absolute proof more frequently, something will get done about it. Hope this helps other places! 5 Ways To Get Clients For Your New Online Business Posted: 23 Oct 2020 03:14 AM PDT You need to first ask yourself a question, "Is my business ready to go online? I hope I haven't missed anything critical for my clients and customers?" Well, if your answer is yes, then you're good to go. But hey, is it this easy to go online and attract clients to know more about your business? You bet if everything was this simple. With more than 1.8 billion live websites, trying to attract clients to your online business is like looking for a needle in a haystack. It is going to be challenging, but not impossible. Is my mindset holding back business growth? Posted: 23 Oct 2020 03:11 AM PDT Hi all Quick summary In my early 30s, run a small web design / digital marketing biz (4/5 people) Been working in the biz since I was 16 and took over 50% ownership and total management of the company 6 years ago when the founder retired Doubled turnover to a relatively modest £250k ($320k) in first couple of years. Since then it's remained at £250-270k a year We have a healthy cash balance and hundreds of clients, some better than others, and we regularly get opportunities with bigger clients. We punch above our weight to an extent. The problem is I have a far too conservative attitude and I'm not sure why. We're stuck at this £250k rev mark which gives a nice living but nothing spectacular so I'm not sure where my cautious approach comes from. Perhaps fear of losing what we already have, which frankly is a lot of hard work and stress most of the time, for me personally. Doubling our revenue (and sustaining profit margins) by being more aggressive in pursuing opportunities, upselling clients etc shouldn't be too difficult in theory (we get about 6 new enquiries per week) but I'm lacking the guidance and help/support to go for it. I basically run the company solo with a few staff that do the delivery work while I find clients and project manage. I hesitate to be aggressive because it'll be me that ends up doing a lot of the grunt work and I'm already maxed out, so a lot of enquiries I turn down or don't bother pursuing. But I may as well go for broke because it probably can't get much more stressful, in fact maybe the opposite would happen by putting the right people/processes in place. I guess this all boils down to recruitment and getting the right people in place and just going for it. But for some reason I don't have the clear headspace or mentality to do what needs to be done. Here is some stupid shit to give you some examples:
What help or resources would help me finally get over this restricting mindset so we can grow and flourish as I know we can? Do I need a mentor/business partner? TIA EDIT: meant to mention that I take a reasonable salary + dividends. Would relying on dividends once or twice a year instead of salary help change this kind of comfortable mentality I have? Outsourced my back office and accounting overseas - What next? Posted: 22 Oct 2020 04:36 PM PDT Hi All. A few years ago I realized how much time I was spending on dealing with mail, bills, and accounting and that none of those things were really growing my business. It could have been 10 hours a week on admin stuff. I spent a lot of time on upwork and fiverr and eventually I found a virtual assistant in the Philippines and an accountant in Pakistan. That 40-50 hours a month is now just 3-5 hours of overseeing these two employees. The payroll cost is $350-450/month. It was one of the best things I did to open up more time to focus on my business that didn't take away from my personal and family time. Does anyone have any other ideas for automating or otherwise getting rid of the business tasks not related to actually growing your business? Anything you did? [link] [comments] |
Never register your domain name with the same company who you host with. Posted: 22 Oct 2020 10:40 AM PDT So I posted this is another post as a reply but thought it's a good tip for its own sake. I have done a lot of domains. I have also registered and or held DNS or nameservers with the same hosting company which hosts my website and servers. I have had issues with access or accounts being suspended for a variety of reasons, this has resulted in me losing access to my domain name and emails even though my email are with Office365 the DNS /NS records where suspended. At least if you have your records with another provider just pointing to Host you can change and protect your domain in a few minutes if there is a problem. Most domain name registers will allow you to use there Nameservers and DNS record facility for free with the purchase of a domain name once per year for a few bucks. Trust me, this stops you from being relient on one company and allows you to split emails and other services off. I have many domains that have primary with GCP, emails with Outlook365 and subdomains with AWS. [link] [comments] |
Should I have a website for our business? Posted: 23 Oct 2020 12:12 AM PDT It is a small family business that sells cellphones and also accessories that comes with it. Main things that I think are important to mention:
My question is, do we need a website for our shop? I want to drive people in our physical store, online selling is not really good in our location. I have a Facebook page already running and Instagram, is that enough? I just boost our posts so more people can find our page. [link] [comments] |
Retailer wants to be added to general AND personal liability insurance. Posted: 22 Oct 2020 09:16 PM PDT I have a small business which I formed as an LLC which sells various small electronics products. I am currently talking with an online retailer to potentially list my products on their site and they have said they need to be added to both my general liability insurance and a 1 million dollar personal liability insurance plan. Adding them to the general liability for my business make sense to me, but adding them on to a personal liability plan does not. This is all new to me so maybe this is common and I am just unaware, but does anyone have experience with this? Can I even add a company to a personal liability plan, and even if I could I don't think it would cover anything to do with the business. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
How to Charge and Pay Taxes as Consultant? Posted: 22 Oct 2020 08:24 PM PDT Hey, if I'm doing consulting work for a company where I'm paid based on a percentage of their profits with revenue streams connected to a number of different service providers (for example, I improve a restaurant by increasing the quality of their dinnerware, charging the restaurant a % increase in revenue and charging the dinnerware provider a % of their revenue from the restaurant's purchase at my recommendation), how do I appropriately charge and pay taxes in these relationships while respecting their privacy? Do I treat all touch points of the arbitrage as contractors? Or do I just write up contracts, have the companies produce the relevant accounting, then generate receipts based on the contracts and pay taxes quarterly without any tax forms passing between the parties? Sorry if the question is unclear... Please help... [link] [comments] |
Naming the LLC question (possibly too easy, sorry in advance!) Posted: 22 Oct 2020 07:45 PM PDT Background: Am in Maryland, was planning on doing this in January but can't pass up an opportunity for next week and want to get my LLC in place ASAP just in case. Right now I'm sole owner, but if I get busy my husband will step in to be my assistant in the future, so LLC. (Edited for clarity due to exhaustion) I'm a running coach who also does gait analysis. Do I say misfit coaching and analysis, Llc or just misfit, Llc incase I want to only focus on coaching in the future? I want to avoid paying for dbas if possible as I'm just starting out and there is a pandemic so watching my pennies. I know, it's silly. But thank you in advance for you advice! [link] [comments] |
Need advice on this Bank situation Posted: 22 Oct 2020 06:51 PM PDT So my business partner is leaving the state and also leaving the business. No issue there. We are a 2 person LLC. We went to the bank today, got our withdrawal and buyout agreement notarized there and proceeded to sit down with a banking personnel and told them that my partner is leaving he needs to be taken off the bank account. After a few back and forth with her higher-ups, they told us that they cannot take him off the bank account. They said they need to close the account, open a new one but before they can do that, I need to come back with an updated operating agreement. I guess what I am seeking as advice is how do I proceed with this without having to spend a lot of money to a Lawyer to give me a copy of an updated operating agreement? Do you guys know any online service that can do this? I don't even understand why they need a copy of a new operating agreement when the notice of withdrawal and buyout agreement that they notarized is pretty straightforward. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Oct 2020 05:39 PM PDT Hey all, I don't know if this is the right place to ask. So I'm planning on starting my online business of selling electronics. And after a few months I anticipate hiring my friend as an employee to manage the small things of my business. My question is would it be wrong or illegal for me to get an EIN now before even actually starting my business? Also would there be an issue if my business ends up not working out and I don't even use the EIN? [link] [comments] |
Allocation of monthly to marketing Posted: 22 Oct 2020 05:37 PM PDT Hi guys, on average what do you think your % of monthly spend would be on marketing? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Oct 2020 11:25 AM PDT I am taking over a business location, keeping the name but not purchasing the company outright (the LLC). Long story short, the owners are getting divorced so they are dissolving everything. The business makes about $180k a year net. And I was wondering if approval for a small business loan would take their annual income into consideration? We have been managing the location for about ten years, which is why they offered to sell us all the assets and allow usage of the aforementioned. Any insight to options would be greatly appreciated! Posted: 22 Oct 2020 05:12 PM PDT I'm hiring my first FT employee. Up to this point is has been cash for any help I have had but I need to start doing it right. All the options I see are $30+ a month plus X$ per employee. I'm only going to have one on payroll. Is there a good option out there? [link] [comments] |
Anyone else does reselling and alibaba prices has gone up tremendously? Posted: 22 Oct 2020 05:57 AM PDT It's way more expensive now than ever before. I used to get discounts on 200 quantity now I need to order a whole lot more. [link] [comments] |
Experience with breaking into retail? Experience with Tundra? Posted: 22 Oct 2020 03:07 PM PDT Has anyone had good experiences with breaking into retail? A few of our products are about to be included on the website of a large catalog/internet company. We're excited about that, but are also seeking out other retail channels to sell product through. Our direct sales are doing well and growing organically, but we would like to find more retailers to carry our goods. We recently went live on the Tundra platform and have had a few sales, but we've been spending a fair amount in promotion credit. Long-term, that is not a winning strategy unless we start getting more bang for our buck. I'd love to hear from others who've had success. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Best lead list vendors for medical / dental sales? Posted: 22 Oct 2020 02:44 PM PDT Hi all, I've started a business as a medical / dental device distributor, and I just signed my 1st dealership agreement to become a distributor for a dental manufacturer. We'll be calling into and visiting private dental practices and I'm in need of a good list list to get started. I'm on a tight budget but I'm willing to spend the money for leads with accurate information. I'm familiar with LimeLeads and had success with them in the past, but it's been awhile and I'm out of the loop on who the best list vendors are these days. Does anyone have any recommendations for lead list vendors that have quality leads of dental practices? I need something that I can upload into my CRM and preferably contains contact names of the office managers and practice administrators and their direct phone numbers. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Oct 2020 02:41 PM PDT Simply that's our problem. Being the owner of the business, how do you guys deal with insecure and toxic managers? They have been with us over a decade but nothing seems to get better with them! -First manager is a control freak, he's the king of micro management and he always thinks of employees are slaves and they're never doing enough. He always gets pissed for the slightest note on him and has tons of ego issues. -Second manager has some shitty communication skills, very moody and she has a very rigid tone with her employees. -Third manager is basically a coward, she always tries to keep key information to herself to maintain power. And she also refuses to delegate most of the work also to maintain her leverage. We gave them books and courses on management and many meetings were held with those managers in order to attempt to fix them but they are too stubborn and not willing to change their ways or become better. Ignoring the fact how they were promoted to managers in the first place, what would you guys do to fix those shitty managers? Any advice will be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Oct 2020 02:07 PM PDT I regularly ship out products from my small business using FedEx Ground. I used to use the FedEx website for entering and processing these shipments, but once I got a Zebra label printer, it worked better to use the stand-along FedEx Ship Manager software that you can install on Windows computers. However, after using the software for a few months, I've found it to really be lacking. For instance, I can't save the info from frequently sent packages as a Shipment Profile (which saves the weight, dimensions, insurance amt., etc., for a particular shipment for reuse later) in the software, like you can on FedEx's website. For those who have used both the website and the stand alone software, which do you prefer and which is more powerful and can do more things? [link] [comments] |

Dashboards and Forecasting that Integrates with Xero? Posted: 22 Oct 2020 01:41 PM PDT Are any of you doing cash flow forecasting, reporting, planning, modeling with a tool that is NOT Xero, but integrates into it? Xero's dashboards and planning,as well as their data visualizations, are not that great. I'd love to hear what folks are doing to manage this stuff. [link] [comments] |
Shipping oversized items that won't break the bank Posted: 22 Oct 2020 01:34 PM PDT Hello smallbusiness, my company makes a product that is about 8-9' tall and roughly 1.5-2" wide, and the heaviest of them weighs in at 1lb. Currently, we only sell them out of our retail store and in bulk to distributors. How can we sell them online to end-users and not break the bank on shipping costs? This would be huge if we would be able to sell them on our site all over the USA. [link] [comments] |
