COBRA - "Let go" 3 weeks ago, haven't received any COBRA info. How do I enroll?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 05:10 PM PDT

[CO - USA] Was "Let go" (no reason given) about 3 weeks ago. Company said they mailed me the COBRA info and my last check but have not received either. Is there any way to look up my COBRA enrollment information?

Company has over 50 employees. Check and COBRA info (supposedly) mailed from several states away just under 3 weeks ago. I could get no info other than it was sent USPS (no tracking). They did send the items to an old address, but I do have mail forwarding setup, in place, and working (401k letter got forwarded without issue).

I want to continue my old health insurance plan as we have already hit our plan yearly out of pocket max. I also want to make sure my kid's medical treatment can go on uninterrupted.

I did receive a letter from my health insurance company offering alternatives if I don't choose COBRA continuation.

Homeowner's insurance being cancelled. Not sure what to do...

    Posted: 05 Oct 2020 04:23 AM PDT

I recently purchased a house. 'When I first signed up with Progressive the said that they would send someone out to do the inspection. Inspection was completed and then they said that we no longer qualify for their policy due to ineligible siding, homes built on an open foundation are ineligible, and condition of roof on detached garage. The home was built in 1910 so it does have a asbestos siding. The open foundation we were able to get that rectify. The roof of the garage is in bad shape but I am in the process of getting that replaced now. I just don't think it is going to be done in time before my policy is canceled.

I'm located in Florida. I've called around other companies like Allstate and State Farm and they all said that they can't help me unless I fix the issues first. Does anyone else have any other advice for me? I great appreciate it.

term disability insurance from work claim questions

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 07:00 PM PDT

I was hospitalized for 2 weeks w/o pay and I filed a claim since I opted for this type of insurance from my workplace. I am thinking about leaving my job but I just filed my claim. Would that cancel my pending claim if I leave the job? I have a considerable hospital bill that was partly paid by my workplace health insurance already but I read that I can use my short term disability insurance to get some cash to pay off the remainder not paid for by my health insurance.

    Thanks

Got into an accident, who is at fault?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 01:40 PM PDT

Happened this morning, I'm still a bit shakened up.

TLDR: I live in California I am 20+ year old, person I hit 90+ year old man. Man I rear-ended also has a disabled plate, hard of hearing (his son said), etc.

I had green light, pretty far from intersection when I decided to pass the car in front of me going fairly slower than traffic. Turned into the left lane safely and proceeded to pass the car in front of me. I then continue to turn into the right lane while using my turn signal, meanwhile I see a car turn right on red as I passed through the intersection on the right lane. He must've not seen me because he was going fairly slow, hit my brakes, honked my horn and still hit him pretty hard my airbag deployed and i got light bruises on my legs. My car cannot be moved after the crash, damage on my car is front right while his damage is back left.

I called my dad over and he called his son over, his son was blabbering to me about how people in this intersection go pretty fast and how its suspicious that we were fairly far from the intersection where it was the point of impact, implying I hit him while he was already in the lane when I remember I hit him when he was still turning.

Image provided below if you can't understand what I'm saying, I'm still kind of in shock. So please tell me who is in fault here, I feel like I'm being gas lighted by his son.

How does temporary housing benefit work after a house fire?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 07:18 AM PDT

SW OHIO -Recent fire at apartment building 8/30 Caused by contractor, six months to rebuild. Filed claim with Rental Insurance the same day as the fire. I had been furloughed due to Covid, am over 50+, empty nest, rebuilding life afte divorce and have been looking for remote work. Rent was $670/mo. I was paying out of savings which was dwindling. But I had a roof overhead.

Claims Adjuster (CA) gave me name of company X to help find temporary housing. X, nationwide vendor, said I could move to a location as long as they had a "digital payment agreement" (DPA) with X. She gave me two places: one on Gunshots R Us side of town and the other was a national chain extended stay (ES). Online it showed prices of $94~$114 / night.

My housing allowance on policy is only $7500. $ 3k a month would eat up claim. $1000 was already used up in clothing, food, hotel the first ten days.

Highest rent in our area is $1k for 1B1B. Could I not seek short term lease for 3-6 mo? CA gave no straight answer; he said to take ES and "we" would keep track of the numbers. I called several landlords before I took that deal but none of them had heard X or their DPA.

CA rarely returns calls. I felt lost. X said they would be getting a corporate rate at ES and I needed to move quickly on availability. So I did.

Just got notice from X I "had to move out" by end of October. My bill for September was $3,800! Asked X "what happened to the corporate rate?" she said $94 was the rate and emailed me a temporary housing agreement she forgot to have me sign a month ago.

Spent time looking for public adjuster; no one in area to take my case (too small amount).

Any advice is most welcome. Thanks so much.

Question about health insurance from employer - Need advice on choosing from options

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 09:39 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

So I'm a 29 year old working part-time at a job. My employer is not paying for it but the options are much cheaper than what I would get on in individual plan. This would be in the Virginia, DC, Maryland area.

I would consider myself extremely healthy. Never had surgery, never in an accident, no big family medical history problems, no allergies. I mainly go to the doctor for regular checkups or vaccines.

These are the options I can take: https://imgur.com/konXqz4

I get that a POS is a hybrid of PPO and HMO but I'm still not really sure which plan to take. I also know HMO does not take out of network providers, but my question is when would that event occur? The broker on the phone said that even in emergency cases where for example if I get into a car accident and am not in a conscious state, there are emergency exceptions where even out of network providers would not require me to pay 100%

Which option do you guys think I should take?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. The monthly premiums are in the picture ($86.77, $96.37, $103.42)
    2. The 86.77 deductible is: In-Network: $6,500 individual (HMO),the 96.37 deductible is In-Network: $6,000 individual (HMO),the 103.42 deductible is In-Network: $6,000 individual/Out-of-Network: $12,000 individual (POS)
    3. The 86.77 max is: Medical and Prescription Drug combined: In-Network: $8,150 individual (HMO),the 96.37 max is: Medical and Prescription Drug combined: In-Network: $6,550 individual (HMO),the 103.42 max is: Medical and Prescription Drug combined: In-Network: $6,550 individual/ Out-of-Network: $13,100 individual (POS)

Mom got in a wreck with car rental and has no insurance. What are my options?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 09:36 PM PDT

    Hello,

So during the summer my family and I went on a trip and we got a car rental. We did not get the insurance with the car rental company. We did have our own insurance from our regular vehicle. On our way back from the trip my mom wrecks the car and it had to be towed. Unfortunately, the day of the crash was the day my moms insurance ran out, literally that morning before the crash. My mom had forgot to pay it the night before. The insurance has called us asking for the claim number for our insurance. I told them we didn't have any and they said it was going to be 13k. Luckily, she said we can do payments over 24 months. At this point is there anything I can do? My moms doesn't make much and I don't either but I have a nest egg of scholarship/subsidized student loans in the bank, plus my mom gets at least 8k from her tax returns usually. Is it worth putting up a fight about it? I don't want to risk getting a lawsuit and paying even more.

    We crashed in Georgia.

If I have three different insurance. Can I get three pairs of glasses?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 11:40 AM PDT

Jellos. To add context. I'm a New Yorker who has my own insurance (won't start till November 1st) my father's insurance and my mother's insurance. They all cover medical, dental and vision and I have lost my newest pair and broken my other. If I register each insurance at different times would they each cover for different pairs of glasses? If more information is needed lmk.

    Car accident in Georgia

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 06:42 PM PDT

I had a car accident about 2 months ago now. I hydroplaned on the highway and hit another car. We went through insurance and that's when I found out I am indeed uninsured. The car was my fathers and he has full coverage, but that did not extend to me as I am an excluded driver on the policy. I did not know this or I wouldn't have been operating the vehicle and I'd have gotten my own coverage. Since the accident was my fault legally, i am responsible for the damages to the other car which came up to 4700 dollars. The other parties insurance company issued a letter to my father asking for reimbursement for these damages. Why did they not send a letter to me? Am I not responsible? Of course I know I am morally responsible, but legally am I not? This is all very confusing and I'd appreciate any insight.

    Business Insurance for eCommerce

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 06:41 PM PDT

My wife and I are starting an e-commerce site, but we're struggling to find a general liability insurance policy. Looking for $1mm/$2mm

I had one agent quote us a Hiscox policy (Other Stores without food/drinks) and the price was reasonable at less than $500/yr

I had another agent tell me they didn't have any insurers for that line of business (they also sold Hiscox as one of their insurers and they said that plan wouldn't cover us)

And I had a third agent say they had to insure us through the surplus markets and that policy was a whopping $3,000 (I could build commercial buildings and be insured for less)

All and all I'm feeling very confused and am looking for some guidance. Does the Hiscox policy cover us? We didn't seem to be in the list of businesses they specifically asked about (Auto, boat, or utility vehicle parts and dealers/Convenience stores/Department stores/Farming or gardening supply stores/Auto repair or gas stations/Health food, vitamin, or drug stores/Grocery stores/Pet or pet supply stores/Restaurants, bars, or nightclubs/Alcohol, tobacco, electronic cigarette, or vapor stores/Gun, firearm, or ammunition stores)

Or are there better options in surplus markets?

Edit: We are located in Ohio Edit 2: we are selling sex toys

I got my life & health license...now need a job

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 06:09 PM PDT

I had my life license for almost two years and failed at it in the past. Recently, I obtained my health license and really want to survive in the insurance industry this time. I am not sure if I exactly want to strictly sell life insurance again, and I would really like to utilize my health license as well. I was thinking of taking the AHIP exam in order to sell medicare

Does anyone know any legit W2 jobs that I can get? I would really appreciate the fact of having a base salary for the start of my career. If anyone here is a recruiter or knows a specific company then please let me know.

Swapping between cars on auto insurance

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 05:57 PM PDT

Say I have a convertible and a SUV, and I want to drive the SUV in the winter and the convertible in the summer. Can I freely swap my auto insurance policy between them without extra cost/penalty? What if I want to take a 2 week camping trip with the SUV during the summer?

I know I can bundle insurance policies and save a bit, but ideally I'd really rather not be paying to insure two cars at once.

Question about making a home insurance claim when something was damaged by a worker

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 05:06 PM PDT

    Hi all,

The hot water heater in my house created a very mild flood in my basement. While some stuff was damaged, a worker installing a generator took my $3000 vintage poster off the crates it was on and placed it on the ground in a 1/3 inch water essentially destroying it. I'm making a claim with my home insurance for the other damage, but should I make the worker's company's insurance pay the damages for the poster? I ask because I'm wondering if the size of my claim will influence the increase in my premiums. Or is it actually possible to claim on both our insurances? Thanks in advance!

Edit: this is in NJ if that matters

    Pet Insurance Questions

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 08:00 AM PDT

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone can give some insight on this. I live in Arizona and I have pet insurance.

My dog had an accident that required a root canal and cost a lot of money so I submitted a claim with my insurance. I originally thought it happened at the dog park and notified my insurance about it and let them know that she would be receiving treatment.

When I went to the vet, he said it was very unlikely it happened at the park and I remembered that on our way down to the park, she fell going down the last two steps but I thought it was fine since she just got up and started walking like normal. He said the fall was probably did it, not an accident at the park. I just concluded that I was wrong about the park thing and that it had actually happened on the stairs.

The insurance company asked for a clarification about this and I let them know that I just came to the wrong conclusion the first time. I was totally freaked when I saw her tooth broken and just thought it must have been the park since she plays a lot there and I had totally disposed the stair tripping thing from my mind.

Will this cause any issues with my claim? It happened on that day for sure since I regularly check her teeth every night.

Thank you for any info you have!

Restoration contractor here trying to help a homeowner who has tenants living in the home without renters insurance

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 11:57 AM PDT

Hi everyone! I am new here. I work for a national restoration company and handle a lot of losses such as water damage, fire damage, microbial growth, etc .. and assist homeowners through the claim process as much as I can.

    Homeowner is located in Virginia.

The tenants came home the other day after a weekend out of town to their entire three story townhome flooded from the upstairs toilet (clean water). The loss itself is covered, but the insurance company is NOT covering the tenants contents, only the homeowners belongings. We need to do a pack out of the middle floor for reconstruction and flooring installation. Tenants do not feel obligated to pay for the pack-out, and the homeowner is already struggling with paying deductible etc... is there anything I can do to further assist them or do we have to work around the amount of contents? The crappy part is the insurance company won't even pay for content manipulation of the middle floor because the contents aren't covered under the policy.

I feel like I'm at a loss on what to tell the homeowner but any help will be great!!

    TIA

Helping my mate with a claim (UK

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 02:03 PM PDT

Hey guys. Need advice on my mates crash. He was going round a corner at about 60mph. Wasn't a particularly tight corner and you can take it at a lot higher speed. He suddenly lost traction about half way around a corner and sideswiped another car. Both cars written off entirely. When I showed up there was oil on the road. In his words "tried turning and my steering wheel did nothing"

What would be the best way to go about it if the other driver makes a claim? We're only 18 and he loves driving so he can't really afford a massive bill. What wou2 be the best way to avoid any massive bills and the best way to get a good outcome? Live in Wales and the roads where atrocious this day. Any help wou2 be welcome just wanna help him stay on the road. He did have a black box but hadn't installed it yet. He wasn't a fast driver or didn't drive recklessly

    Regarding young driver insurance UK

    Hi people,

Just a quick question regarding my insurance with DirectLine. When quoting it offers me a better rate saying my named driver is my 'partner' instead of 'other - parent'. Can I technically just say they are my partner to reduce the price because its kinda ridiculous the saving between them?
