[CAN] Another "leaving Big 4" post?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 04:25 PM PDT

While I'm still staying in PA for the time being (as a first year Senior), I managed to get a $30k (I repeat, thirty thousand dollars!) raise switching to a small firm. Literally thought they were joking when they sent me the offer. I've already weighed all the pros and cons multiple times and honestly I'm pretty excited and probably won't look back. PA doesn't suck always, but in big 4 it did just because of the bullshit expectations. Now it might not be l sunshine and rainbows I'm sure, but I'm excited to go back to a small firm and get broader, more relevant (at least to me) experience. Also excited to not be stuck in audit 24/7, which I think was the worst part. Until I find my place in industry, I'll be at this small firm making more money than some of my managers at big 4.

Anyways just wanted to share my excitement with others who get it!

Put in 2 weeks at B4 to live the industry dream.

Tomorrow’s my last day at B4

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 06:47 PM PDT

Goodbye shitty pay. Here's to making 2x more than my current salary and probably 2.5x more including a bonus.

    Thanks for nothing, B4.

Most awkward thing I heard in an interview

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 06:39 PM PDT

I was interviewing with this firm. no name calling and it was a partner, manager and a senior and the senior looks me dead in my eyes and goes "I like being a part of the interview process because I like control and the feeling of giving struggling graduates a chance"

    I'm not working there

recently started at Big 4..... having second thoughts about this career path

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 07:26 AM PDT

i've been at a Big 4 for about a month now. i don't find the work interesting at all, it's just a lot of ticking and tying. looking at client files i have no familiarity with, i feel like i'm constantly spinning my wheels. the work itself is not very engaging, it's mind-numbing. and the expectation of being available 24/7 - it's not even busy season yet and i see people are online until late hours of the night on a daily basis.

is it too late to switch to something else? maybe something more people-oriented, like customer service at a bank or something. or even marketing.....

Research paper on the CPA Exam (pls help)

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 02:10 PM PDT

Hi everyone! I am currently writing a research paper for my master's program and am collecting data to supplement my analysis. I posted a survey on my LinkedIn profile a few weeks ago but didn't get enough replies for it to actually help me, so I was hoping I may have more luck here! The survey is meant for those who are certified public accountants and is geared to help my analysis of the effectiveness of the CPA Exam, as a measure of candidate's readiness for a career in public accounting. The survey is completely anonymous and will take less than 15 minutes to complete. Thank you guys!

At what point do you put your 2 weeks in?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 02:07 PM PDT

Got an offer for an industry position so looking to leave big 4 - as of now I only have the verbal offer however the paperwork will be to me either tomorrow or Monday

The new job won't start till December and there's things like background check / drug test that I'd have to complete

Should I put my 2 weeks in as soon as I get an offer letter (this gives me about 2 weeks after my last day of work for time to myself to just relax and mentally reset) or should I wait until the background check / drug test are complete and then put the 2 weeks in? I don't see why I would fail either of those

Or should I just wait till 2 weeks before my job starts and then put it and start immediately?

    What’s your career comeback story?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 04:07 PM PDT

A lot of people tend to post about landing a B4 job or cushy, private job. But I want to hear from people who started at like a 3 person office and are now at their dream job (or halfway there).

I'm currently rebuilding my career from scratch post grad, so frankly... I need some advice and encouragement lol

Why do HR people "talk" to each other when it comes to blacklisting bad employees?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 05:26 PM PDT

Wouldn't you want your rival firm to HAVE THAT BAD employee so you can make your firm look better?

I am not sure what's the point of talking badly about a bad employee to a recruiter at a rival firm.

I am 0/3 in final round interviews for B4

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 03:24 PM PDT

I have made it to 3 final round interviews with B4 firms and have yet to receive an offer. Each rejection has been for different reasons. Is it time for me to move on? I only need one more class to graduate in the spring, so I guess I'll be eligible for one more recruiting cycle as a new grad.

    salary expectations when quitting (1yr)

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 04:58 PM PDT

thinking about leaving B4 after a year, but I'm having a hard time finding positions that are paying higher than what i'm being paid rn (w compression adjustment "raise.") For context, I'm in the Bay Area and considering going to a lower COL (still CA). Even some Bay area positions seem like they're paying less. Would it be stupid to leave for a position that pays the same or about 5-7k less if i'm moving to an area w lower COL? I'm not career oriented and not looking to reach CFO or anything like that I just wanna pay my bills and have some money leftover

Can someone give me professional advice on returning to public and failing your first mission?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 06:20 PM PDT

It has been half a month since I returned to the same public firm I left as a promoted Audit Staff. I return back as an Audit Senior (I basically jumped to another Big 4 firm as a Senior for years, then jumped to industry senior postions, got fired from industry, I'm back where I want to be).

Basically I've been re-learning and learning new audit stuff. New software, new everything, this has taken some time. They actually got me working as a Staff in practice, which I expect given that I haven't audited in three years. I have to report to another experienced Senior.

Now, they put me in this client THAT HAS DELIVERABLES to the main audit team. Information has to be delivered within some days no matter what, no excuses. This is normal for me, all my clients are component/group audits, always got deliverables.

I just realized, the deadline is in some days. It's humanely impossible for me to finish all the work even if I literally worked 24/7. I don't know what to fucking do, I've never been in a situation like this. "Why did you fuck up Anon?" I simply fucked up, there's no excuse or explanation. I was going to work 'til 12AM but it's 8PM and I just snapped, I can't keep auditing things. I'm not even wasting my time while working, I do short tasks for 30 minutes, I record progress, I take a 2 minute break, I repeat the cycle endlessly (Pomodoro Technique).

Tomorrow I'll have to call the other senior and ask for help, senior will scream at me, senior manager will call me and will scream at me. Might realistically get fired. It's not that I made audit mistakes, it's just that I just don't have enough time, simple as that, even if I typed endlessly.

    Considering Accounting as a Major

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 05:10 PM PDT

I'm highly considering switching to Accounting as a major, I'm out of school right now due to moving and the pandemic but are there any books you'd recommend that I could start studying to get some ideas what it's like? I'd like to get some basic concepts down if I could
