Very weird situation, insurance company is playing weird games with me cause I had a food delivery bag in my car.....

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 03:05 PM PDT

    CALIFORNIA

I got into car accident 2 weeks ago and the insurance company hasn't determined who's at fault.

A while ago I did door dash and haven't done it since the pandemic started but I keep the bag in my car for groceries. So I guess they saw the bag when the car was at the insurance accident lot and it's gotten really weird ever since. Today I got a call from my adjuster and she was blatantly like we know you were working with door dash ( blatant lie ) and we've gotten information from them and they said the app was on ( lie ) but I wasn't on a food delivery? Then she was like you should go through Door dash insurance and I was like why, idk wtf your talking about and asked her why she's lying about door dash.

Let me get this clear I was not on the app, there wasn't even food in the car. My friend says since it's the same insurance company they're trying to screw me over and are looking for a reason to not be finically responsible. I don't even get the whole lie she said about well the app was on but there was no food in the car, if there's no food in the car then a driver isn't working.

Should I get a lawyer or something cause just for me having a bag in the car my insurance is lying and doing anything to deny my claim it seems like.

    CAIB 3 courses?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 11:16 PM PDT

    Hello there,

I am in Canada and I am about to go for my CAIB 3 classes then eventually going to take my exam to get a Level 2 licence! Just wanted to know from anybody who may be familiar with this - how does CAIB 3 compare to CAIB 2? Is the textbook any different in terms of difficulty? I've heard that CAIB 3 is a lot easier but I wanted to get other perspectives on what the course is like. Thanks!

i’m 20, and on my parents insurance. i’ve been in 2 accidents in the past 2 months.

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 09:51 AM PDT

In the past 2 months or so, i've been involved in 2 accidents. One of these accidents i was found partly in fault for, one of them I was 100% at fault, no injuries. In around 3 or 4 months the insurance rates will reflect these accidents when it renews.

Will the insurance raise even if im no longer insured by then, as in, if i go on my own insurance. if not, would me not being insured affect the rates at all? thanks

Neighbor's home insurance refusing to pay for water damage repairs

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 01:05 AM PDT

Okay so I don't really post to Reddit but I thought I would try asking here just in case. My family and I will be reaching out to a lawyer in the morning to see what can be done about the issue, but this is how it goes.

My partner and I live with my mother in a 2 bedroom condo in California. Our unit is one of two in the complex that is reserved for low-income individuals and that only requires us to have fire insurance (not home insurance). We could never afford home insurance anyhow. Anyway, my mother was recently out of state (July-August) taking care of a family emergency and my partner and I were left to watch the house. On the 2nd day of her trip, our upstairs neighbor was fixing some plumbing in his kitchen (on his own rather than hiring a plumber) and ended up flooding our entire kitchen, hallway, living room, and some of my mother's bedroom. I had a friend visiting the day it happened and it was all a very stressful and messy ordeal. The three of us had to sweep, mop, and vacuum out water non-stop for about an hour until the water was under control. Water leaked through our range vent fan, our kitchen lights, our hallway lights, our central A/C unit, and just through the ceiling overall. After the water stopped and we got most of it out, we then proceeded to clean up the range which had collected a significant amount of cloudy water, tossed food that was in the cupboards that got wet, and did everything possible to clean any external damage we could. The upstairs neighbor responsible eventually came downstairs, apologized, took responsibility, and said his insurance would take care of all damages. My friend and I acknowledged his response and he left. The HOA obviously knows he's responsible for the damage as it caused a big commotion in the building and the president of said HOA had to turn off the water to the building (which the responsible party had apparently neglected to do). My partner and I tried to get estimates from companies in the area that addressed this type of damage, but were told that without the owner of the condo present (my mom) then they couldn't do anything. My mother could not return sooner than late August and, when she did, we found out that the upstairs neighbor never reported the damage to his insurance until my mother got back over a month after the incident occurred. When my mother returned she noticed a damp smell and called a company to quote us an estimate for repairs to send to our neighbor. The company says the walls and ceiling in the most damaged areas have 99% humidity (it should be about 14% normally). Neither I nor my partner noticed the smell because I guess we had gotten used to it from being home most of the time and we also have a bad sense of smell. However, I have asthma and had been using my inhaler more frequently, but didn't realize that mold/mildew from the water in the walls and ceiling could be the cause. Anyway, we forwarded him the restoration company's estimate as well as the videos and photos I took of all the damage for him to send to his insurance. We're now in late September and the insurance just got back to us and they said that they hadn't received any evidence and that they are refusing to pay because (1) we should have made a claim sooner and (2) we should have taken steps with our insurance or used our own $ to immediately mitigate the issue (i.e. dry the water trapped inside the walls and ceiling). However, because this has never happened to us before we were unsure how to proceed at all and obviously don't have our own insurance, my mom is unemployed and cannot afford the repairs on her own right now, and the owner had refused to forward his insurance info for us to contact them directly until 4 days ago. The owner went so far as to call us and tell us not to tell his insurance that he was the one making repairs (because then they would refuse to cover the damage) and just to say we don't know anything and just want our damaged items replaced and the water dried from the walls and ceiling. We're thinking that we're going to have to sue him directly and take him to court if his insurance continues to avoid paying. We have been struggling for weeks with no light in the kitchen and the damp smell that comes from basically every kitchen cabinet and the hallway. Is it really legal for the insurance company to avoid paying like this? I appreciate anyone who read through all that and can lend their advice. Thank you.

TL;DR: My upstairs neighbor flooded our condo due to his negligence and now his insurance is refusing to pay because he waited too long to file a claim and because mold/mildew developed as a result of his delayed response. What do we do? :(

I get hit, but I'm out money on my car?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 01:58 PM PDT

So last Friday, I was on my way home when I'm stopped behind a guy at a red light. I think he changed his mind on where he wanted to go, so he ended up backing into the front of my car. No problem, shit happens.

No issues with him nor the police, we get it squared away that it was his fault so I file with his insurance. Welp, it got inspected today and his insurance decided to total the car instead of pay the 5100 base line cost to repair it. Fine, I knew that was a possibility.

But what doesnt make sense, is that IF I decide to get the car fixed, whatever they would've given me for the car gets 1500 taken off it to account for "lost profit" ?!?!?!

I'm like, HE HIT ME! Why am I getting the short end of the stick for something that wasnt my fault? If anyone knows what I could/should do, please let me know.

P.S. I'm in college so money is really tight especially now.

Ridiculous auto insurance decision, 80% at fault. Any way to dispute this? Story and pictures inside.

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 10:18 PM PDT

Hello folks, I live in Washington State and was involved in a 2 car accident about a month ago. I was trying to take a left turn onto a high way on ramp when an on coming car blew though their red light and impacted my driver side quarter panel and bumper (https://imgur.com/VatCf0I Visual description of the accident). This happened around midnight on my way home from work with no witnesses and cameras at the intersection.

Only my driver side wheel was in the on coming lane ( I was just initiating the left turn). The other driver state I was turning on a yielding green light which was not true because I was stopped and had to wait for a double green in my lane before the accident. The other party saw me and over corrected into my car and into my turn lane impacting my car. Both party has Allstate and some how after a 2 month long investigation I was deemed 80% liable for the accident. The adjuster explains the decision is due to in the police report it said we both had green lights. On scene I told the police responded I had double green light and they walked away without even finishing taking my statement.

I have pictures of the accident and damage that are in favor of my side of the story (https://imgur.com/a/QSrzM1H). what is infuriating to me is that the other side is a new teen driver that is completely lying on his side of the statement. I am assuming he was sneaking his dad's car out at midnight without permission for a joyride when this happened. Imminently after the accident he became belligerent running out the car and shouting that he was not even supposed to be out and his dad was going to kill him. I honestly called the cops right away because he was losing his mind raging and I thought he was under the influence.

What can I do to dispute this decision. I have spend $2800 on car rental during the repair which my adjuster told me would be reimbursed if other party is at fault. I also took about $6000 of depreciation on my car and now increase in insurance rates. Thanks.

My car got side swiped while parked on the street. What are my options?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 10:17 PM PDT

I have a 2016 Toyota Prius and I was parked on the left side of a one way street. Someone scratched the passenger side of my car. It's a thin and not a super deep scratch, but it's nearly the entire length of the passenger door. I live in NJ and have Geico full coverage. My rate is super low at the moment. My driving history is good with the exception of an accident I had 2 years ago (I was at fault for it).

I'm not sure if I should bother reporting this to insurance though. Will my rate go up? I literally just discovered the scratch today when I went to move my car for street cleaning. 😔

Escape of liquid claim potentially taking 10 weeks?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 10:15 PM PDT

Hey, first time claiming, And couldn't of happened at a worse time.

    Based in QLD , Australia

I have just started the claims process for an escape of liquid. Kitchen sink leaked into hybrid flooring and has seeped through into crawlspace. House is split level. All flooring in kitchen/living will be replaced. I have been told 10 weeks for turn around. Is 10 weeks a reasonable turn around for something like this?

Is 140$ a month too high for car insurance?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 09:26 PM PDT

I have had a lapse of insurance (out of country) and been now continuously insured for 2 years since Aug 2018.

Can I lower my rate? old roommate totaled 2 cars under my policy.

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 09:19 PM PDT

    Hi All,

I am 27 y/o single man. Soon, I will be moving to FL from WI. I drive BMW, I love this machine and don't want to let it go. However, I quoted couple of different insurance companies due to my address change. Guess what, my insurance rate is ridiculously expensive.

This reminds me of an accident that my old roommate made about 20 months ago at his fault totaled both cars...he was under my policy..And I strongly believe that my rate is insanely high because of that incident. yeah I do have a speeding ticket that I got 3 years ago but mix of this two incident made it worse...

Is there any way I can lower my rate? if not, how long this pain last?

Claim question: Happy to get a check, but feel like it should be for more

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 08:56 PM PDT

I'm not a carpenter or plumber by any means, so the estimate is basically a foreign language to me. Do I risk anything by having a contractor give me an estimate(I won't be doing the work anyways) to compare and if they are expecting the repair to cost more, send it to the insurance company for them to reconsider and pay a higher amount? My main concern is there is little profit(10%) built into the estimate and almost no labor costs, just materials. I may misunderstand the estimate or what the plan covers, but it is a homeowner insurance with a $10,000 water damage max.

This was a water damage claim form a leaky shower pan and damaged walls, floors in 2 rooms, and more. The estimate is about $7k. I really feel like the adjuster was looking for ways to pay a claim on anything damaged so I am curious if the estimate is right/fair/good. I was really surprised I got anything and don't want to mess anything up by going back to the insurance company asking for more, even if it does actually cost more...

Other Party’s Insurance Neglected to Repair Damages Leading to Severe Damage

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 07:53 PM PDT

Hello, please read the full post for a complete understanding and links of the photos. There is a TL;DR at the bottom as well. Any feedback is appreciated, thank you!

A couple weeks ago, I was hit by another driver that reversed into the hood of my car, and continued reversing until my hood begin to crumble, eventually breaking the latching mechanism.

The driver's husband, without my consent nor knowledge, pushed my hood back into place, in an attempt to subdue the damage. Initially, I advised him not to do so until I took photos of the damage, but he attempted to ensure me that the damage was not major.

The next day, I filed a claim with my insurance, which told me that based on the photographs (https://imgur.com/a/HPI1f0d), that they would not be following up with the other parties insurance to file a claim, and if I insisted on doing so, I could, but the car would be safe to drive.

I continued to drive the car, with what I was told "a minor latch deformation," and even reached out to file a claim with the other parties insurance, but never received a callback.

Here's the issue, the latch failed completely while driving and the hood ejected from its secondary latch and flew through my windshield and wrapped around the roof of my vehicle causing severe damage, possibly even totaling the vehicle. (https://imgur.com/a/JyIXgUq)

Immediately, I got my vehicle towed to my residence, called their insurance and let them know that due to neglecting to review and repair the damages and being told that the car was still safe to drive, I now went from having a relatively cheap fix, to having a vehicle out of a windshield, hood, and paint job.

Honestly, I don't know much about vehicles, and after being repeatedly told that the issue was minor and that the secondary latch won't fail, I thought the car was safe to drive. The other party's insurance company reached back out to me, had me send in the photographs, and told me that they are waiting to speak to their client to work with reimbursing for the damages.

Issue is, the client has not responded to the request of their insurance according to my assigned adjuster.

The highway patrol officers, my insurance, and my tow driver all are saying that even though the initial accident did not cause the damages from the latch failure, her actions of hitting my vehicle led to the failure which now makes her company responsible for the expenses.

Besides my blind-stupidity to listen to the companies telling me my vehicle was safe to drive, whom is at fault; and what are the chances her insurance would rule in my case. If, it is found she was liable, would they reimburse me for the original damage or would they cover the full cause due to negligence? So far, her company representatives have told me, it could be either or, depending on if she is found liable.

TL;DR: Lady hit my hood, damaged the latch. Her insurance never got back with me. The latch eventually failed on the freeway causing my hood to end up in my windshield. Will they cover the full expenses?

UPDATE: Currently waiting for the appraiser to review the cost of damage — The lady who hit my vehicle has not answered any calls from her insurance — They told me not to repair any damages at the moment, but it is my obligation to repair damages until she is found liable. What do I do?

Hear aid claim major issues--please help

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 07:27 PM PDT

We have insurance anthem that covers hearing aids up to 2400 dollars. My wife got some a year and a half ago and we have been figuring their claims system since then. She has primary insurance through her job Aetna which does not cover hear aid therefore it fell to the secondary. She called anthem to make sure it was covered before we purchased it.

At first her doctors office filed it but that was rejected asking for more informaition. This repeated a few times asking for different things and in some cases asked for the same info that we sent. The doctor moved and we ended up filing our own claim since their office was getting nowhere.

We worked with about 7 different agents to date. Each seemed helpful at the start and would follow up over the first few weeks but then eventually would not contact us with updated. It takes them about one month each time they refilled or resubmitted the claim.

We have been asked for many different things such as: explanation of benefits from primary company which we submitted, diagnosis codes, doctor ID medical numbers and a few others. We filled their own form out perfectly yet these additional things continue to be sent back for "more info".

I am starting to think they are purposefully doing this to push the claim out till it drops off. We have caught them in blatant lies such as them calling the doctors office and talking to a certain person who when we called the office does not exist.

Furthermore this claim is in Texas yet the corporate stricter has it being processed in California. They are constantly saying either Texas office is at fault and have not been able to provide any real progress.

Do I need to hire a laywer to recover 2400 dollars. It just does not seem to make sense financially. Any other help would be appreciated. We are incredibly frustrated with this.

    Negotiating loss property

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 07:10 PM PDT

Posted here before, but in a nutshell had a house in May (everyone was ok without injury) and house is being rebuilt. I turned in my loss property, equaling about 120k, insurance called stated I should be receiving a call from "enservio". Never got a call from them but insurance called me saying enservio did their part of auditing and determined my payment is roughly 37k after depreciation. When reviewing the list they have compared items to what I listed, example dog bed bought from petsmart for 59.99, enservio listed it for 29.99 at Walmart. All my items are "like" items. Now i know this may be the process but is there negotiating here?

There was stuff not calculated due to them needing more details, which I will provide but how do I get closer to the $59 or this what I am stuck with (losing 30 bucks)? While I get depreciation value but not even getting close to what I bought it for or where is really killing my intake.

    Any advice is much appreciated!

Can't remove from policy because of ticket

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 06:38 PM PDT

I am currently on my parent's policy. I have gotten in total about 3 speeding tickets. When I wanted to be removed from the policy, they say they can't because it needs to be at least 3 years from the date of the last ticket? until they can remove it. In this case, I would be removing myself from the policy without getting a new one. Is this true? Is my only recourse to wait or is there others?

    Thanks.

In diagnosis process - can I get supplement insurance?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 02:42 PM PDT

I had my physical last month and one of my test results came back positive indicating high risk of cancer. It was a routine physical, no odd symptoms I was asking about. I have a follow-up appointment next week for them to find out if this is indeed cancerous or something else and from there, determine treatment. Because of that, I've been looking into supplemental insurance (Aflac and such) because I'm living paycheck to paycheck and can't afford to miss work, but they all have the pre-existing conditions stuff. Is it even possible to get that kind of insurance or did I screw the pooch and wait too long? Is it even worth getting those types of supplemental insurance?

I am not looking for solicitors or anything of the like, just tired of scouring the internet to find answers. I just want to know if it is a futile effort to keep looking. I apologise if this type of question isn't allowed. Just scared sh!tless and trying to plan for an unknown situation.

I live in Des Moines, Iowa if you need to know the jurisdiction.

    Advice on insurance injury claim

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 05:46 PM PDT

About a year and a half ago I was in a car accident (New Mexico) and was deemed at fault. The actual car element was closed a couple months later, but I just got a call from another adjuster at my insurance company saying that the passenger of the other car contacted them through an attorney to say that she is getting surgery claimed related to the accident. The adjuster doesn't know how much money they are claiming at this point.

I've never dealt with a situation like this- what are the next steps I should take?

I just sat in on someone in an MLM trying to sell my aunt insurance, and I'm not if everything is legit, and he's already put in an application. What should I do?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 01:45 PM PDT

My aunt (62) asked me (30) to sit in with her as someone was coming in from Family First Life to talk to her about life insurance. He led off with the typical MLM speech about how he was working so much, how it strained his life until he found his current job, and how it's been great ever since. This prompted me to look into the company, and lo, it was.

The man seemed genuinely interested, though I couldn't help but feel my aunt and him were spending more time talking about life than policy, and he didn't take that much time to explain the explicit details of what he wanted to sell, only the benefits. That said, he did explain he wanted to make sure my aunt didn't cash out her current plan until this one was approved and ready to go, handing us a brochure from Americo.

Near the end, as we were wrapping things up, I asked two questions:

    • "Are you a fiduciary?" to which he instantly responded no, and
    • "Who's your upline?" to which he openly acknowledged and talked about said upline.

Now, I'm no expert on life insurance, but my aunt trusts me to look out for her, and this is smelling of something... off. I do understand some MLMs can be legitimate businesses, but the reputation that comes with them and my own experiences have made me exceptionally wary of them and anything they have to offer. I've been trying to do my research, but as a layman with naught but a healthy amount of skepticism, I don't know where to look.

Are these red flags that I should steer myself and my aunt away from posthaste, or am I too paranoid about things? Are these companies and the methods they practice normal, or am I looking at someone trying to make money at the expense of others? Feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Are state required minimum on car insurance bad?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 01:10 PM PDT

I just left college, got a job in a different state, and my paycheck is very far from the biggest out there (think any entry level job). As a result, the auto insurance I can afford is state minimum insurance.

I am shopping insurance, and one of the agents suggested to me that my coverage is bad and that I wont be ready if someone were to sue me for 1M or 5M dollars if I hit them and ruined their life. I've been driving for a bit, but I still take only back streets and drive super slow. I can do highways, higher speeds, and aggressive merging (I learned to drive in the city), but I prefer not to because I like relaxed driving. At maximum, I travel 30 miles a week bc work is .5 miles away and the shopping plaza is 2 miles away. That being said, I have only been driving for a little over 1 year (even when I first started driving, I probably did 40-45 miles a week, bc i've always kept in a pretty small radius).

But he said that even if it is not my fault, if I hit an affluent person with a high powered lawyer on their side, it is very plausible...because the city I will be working in is quite affluent. He said that if I hit someone making even 500k/yr, and they couldn't work for 5 years, they would sue me for lost wages and I would be unable to bear that. He said that is a possibility every time I get behind the wheel. He wasn't mean or pushy, he was just presenting the scenario in a really calm and matter of fact tone, which makes me want to believe him.

Is this a scare tactic, or should I sincerely consider the highest liability and adding umbrella insurance like he suggested?

    Thank you!

    Edit: Maryland is the state

Homeowners insurance for house with a wood stove

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 07:31 AM PDT

Vermont - USA. I have owned a house with a wood stove for a few years now and my homeowners insurance has always been aware of it. It is a secondary source of heat as we have a gas furnace. I just renewed my policy and asked the sales rep (liberty mutual) if either my gas furnace or wood stove needs to have a professional inspection, and that I keep receipts? The sales rep said they didn't know the answer, that it would be up to the claim adjuster's judgement.

So obviously it's a good idea to have a furnace or wood stove inspected, but is it generally required for coverage? I am paranoid about my house burning down due to either the furnace or stove, and my insurance covering me for $0 because it hadn't been inspected for over a year or something. I clean the wood stove chimney pipes every year myself but I don't have evidence of this.

I guess my question is, what kind of reasonable steps should I take to protect myself from my insurance claiming I am negligent for a house fire? Based on the condition of the furnace or stove... thanks!
