Mom mom has been left in quite the lurch by Allstate. Advice needed. Posted: 25 Sep 2020 11:21 AM PDT My mom has been with Allstate for over 30yrs, and has worked with the same broker and his family the whole time. Just last week she was in an accident, her first in idk how long she's always kept a clean driving record. She rear ended another car which hit the car in front of it; bad I know, she wasn't on her phone just traffic stopped unexpectedly at the crest of a hill. Well her insurance was due to be paid that day as well, she paid it that day once she got home. Now Allstate is trying to tell her that she paid her bill 20 mins late and therefore there was a lapse in coverage so her accident will not be covered. She and her broker have fighting with them all week and getting no where. It just seems so wrong that that there reasoning is there anything she can do? Edited a word she WASNT on her phone and she was late by 20 mins on her due date not the grace period. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Sep 2020 05:00 PM PDT So, title. I'm not an insurance or accident professional, so I'm not sure if she's 100% at fault, or if the other driver owns some piece of the fault as well. (In the eyes of insurance) Everyone thankfully is okay, all parties have insurance... That's the most important thing! Video: https://streamable.com/78k69j Map/details: https://imgur.com/a/vaFjw6n She was turning eastbound, and there was at least 600 ft of westbound traffic stopped behind a red light on this road. Anywho.. The person she collided with was westbound in the middle lane for turning, but as you can see from the end of the video, there were a ton of cars across hundreds more feet they had to go around to be in the turn lane. Obviously my fiancee should have made sure she was clear, just not have gone, or turned right and turned around somewhere. I see two possibilities of what the other vehicle did:
Thoughts? EDIT: After some comments, added a few details to my map/explanation: 1) There is a "center lane for turns only" sign at the start of the block accompanied by a solid yellow line against the center lane, and 2) the solid yellow road line is on the entire stretch of road leading up to & at the point of collision, it does not break until after the point of collision. I'm not sure if in this context (center lane, not like a highway division) it means "just don't pass" or "don't cross this line whatsoever". [link] [comments] |
Geico is terminating my auto coverage. Any advice? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 05:08 AM PDT The letter they sent, via certified mail, says they are terminating me in November because I have 3 offenses in the last 36 months (exceeding 8 points): Speed 1-5 Over 35 MPH Zone (summer of 2018) Speed 1-5 Over 45 MPH Zone (fall of 2018) Speed 1-5 Over 35 MPH Zone (spring of 2020) I'm honestly a little bowled over by this. Timing is weird. I guess the violation this past spring was strike 3, but odd that I'm getting notified in September? I re-upped and completed a defensive driving course earlier this year to earn points to offset that I had hoped would help with points. Also, maybe I'm just naive but it's not like I have traffic violations for some hit and run, or driving while intoxicated, or speeding 20 over in a 55 MPH zone. Each of my violations were minor. Again, I know I'm being naive even as I type that. Rules are rules I guess. They just seem overly strict for some reason. The options Geico has given me in the letter are basically a) keep the policy for the rest of my family members and send them a Named Driver Exclusion on myself, or b) cancel the entire policy. Is there hope to appeal somehow? Am I uninsurable with the State Farms or Progressives at this point too? Where should I go for a replacement policy? [link] [comments] |
Can I pay out of pocket for a minor accident? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 10:18 PM PDT I recently got in a minor accident and the only damage was scratches to the back of his car. I want to pay out of pocket but I forgot to get his phone number. If he contacts my insurance and files a claim can i deny the insurance paying for it and pay out of pocket? I don't want my rates to go up. I'm in Washington state [link] [comments] |
Brother (27 in Florida) needs Health Insurance and Dental Posted: 25 Sep 2020 02:49 PM PDT Hi, My brother is an independent contractor and his employer doesn't offer benefits. What are his options for Health and Dental? Where is a good place for him to start looking? I work in a P/C brokerage but I've never been in his situation before. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks [link] [comments] |
At fault driver doesn’t want to go through insurance Posted: 25 Sep 2020 08:45 PM PDT I was sitting on the freeway, completely stopped because of traffic, and all of a sudden I was hit very hard from behind. There are a lot of deep scratches and dents on 3 places on the back. I also hit my head extremely hard. I had to go to urgent care and they told me I have whiplash and a concussion. I got three meds for it. The person called and wants to just pay without insurance, but I don't think I should. What do you all think? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Sep 2020 04:42 PM PDT We filed a renters insurance claim, we thought we were going to get denied but they called today to set us up in a hotel till repairs were done on the roof. Does this mean the claim was approved or if they denied it will I have to pay back the hotel stay? We are covered under Root Renters Insurance. Also will they also pay out anything additional like groceries, etc. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Leaving a job, don’t really want to pay for cobra. Other, cheaper options? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 02:23 PM PDT I am leaving my job on oct 9th, and benefits will be terminated that day (employer pays the full premium for all employees - unicorn, I know). my new job won't have me eligible for health insurance for the first 90 days. Cobra would cost me $750 a month, and I don't really want to pay what's almost my mortgage for 3 months until new insurance kicks in. Are there any other, cheaper alternatives to be covered for insurance? Also, Do we still have to pay a fine if we're not covered for a certain period? Normally, I'd be fine going without coverage but being in the midst of a pandemic, I think being covered would be prudent. Edit: I'm in NV [link] [comments] |
[Auto] [California] at fault driver with total loss Posted: 25 Sep 2020 08:16 PM PDT Hello, I was recently involved in a two car collision and might be 100% at fault. I have collision coverage, but I'm not sure about the other driver. The other driver's car is way above my property damage limit. I'm not sure how much I'll have to pay out of pocket. I have the minimum insurance for California state. Can someone please explain how much out of pocket I'll have to pay in each of the scenarios? 1. Other driver has collision coverage. 2. Other driver doesn't have collision coverage 3. Other driver has body injury cost exceeding my limit. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Sep 2020 07:30 PM PDT I'm on my parents insurance. Our insurance is much better than hers plus we should be responsible. We don't really know how insurance works tho. Can we go to the doctor and then I have her give them my insurance info? Or does she get the bill and then we give it to my insurance company? How does it work? [link] [comments] |
Personal articles reflecting poorly on my CLUE report?? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 04:34 PM PDT About: USA, SC resident home/auto through USAA personal articles policy through State Farm... In the past two years I have had 2 automobile claims- 1 with deer, 1 with un-insured motorist leaving the scene of the accident. 2 months ago we had water damage claim on our homeowners policy; still open because of COVID slowdown unfortunately. Yesterday I crashed one of my drones, which is covered under State Farm. I did a little reading and learned about the sharing of claims amongst insurance companies and my clue report. My drone is insured for $800 and will cost around $1000 to replace give or take. I spoke to my agent and he has seen claims from other companies on reports, but those tend to be business, or so he says. He said he has never seen a personal articles claim on a report and even went to ask his coworkers as well and I guess they agreed with him. My argument is me making a claim vs. eating the cost of a crashed drone worth it? I don't want to be paying higher premiums 3 years down the line because of this one small claim. So I went ahead and made the claim today, and ordered a clue report from lexis nexus. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Just so you are aware, my SF policy is $75 a year and I have around $1400 of coverage, no deductible. [link] [comments] |
Hit a flying tire, I know what vehicle it came from. Posted: 25 Sep 2020 04:26 PM PDT Today I was driving in rush hour traffic and in front of me was a tow truck that was towing a car with the cars rear two wheels on the ground. I saw the tire shoot off from that car and hit me. The collision was unavoidable. The tow truck driver I don't think realized it, I tried to flag him down the best as I could but he didn't see me. I have photos of the tow truck with its company information and of the car it was towing with out a tire on its rear wheel and it just driving on the rim. What should I do? Am I at fault for this? Totaled Car, not at-fault, can I "rent" my husband's car? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 12:25 PM PDT Was in an accident yesterday, 9/24; other guy ran a stop sign and hit me. My car was totaled and I've been driving my husband's car. We didn't personally exchange information, just gave it all to the police; the police report won't be ready for a few days, so for now, everything is going through my insurance company. I don't have rental coverage so they said if I incurred any rental car expense I'd have to ask for recovery from the other guy's insurance company. I'm wondering if there's a way I can receive some sort of compensation for driving my husband's car and putting the miles on there. Also, how many days of a rental car do insurance companies even pay out when the car is a total loss? Edited to add location: I live in and the accident took place in St. Louis, MO. My car's title and insurance policy are both in IL (was about to be in the process of switching it over after moving). I believe the other driver had MO plates. [link] [comments] |
Should our roommate have renters insurance? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 11:57 AM PDT My wife and I bought a house in December and obtained homeowners insurance, as one does. We have a friend renting a room from us (very informal, no rental agreement, not here to discuss whether this is a good idea--we know and trust him). My question is whether he should, or even can, obtain renters insurance. Maricopa county, az [link] [comments] |
New Grad: How Much Auto Insurance? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 03:24 PM PDT It's that time of the year to pay for my auto insurance, but this time I'm shopping! I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts. I've heard people recommend at least $2M in liability but that sounds really high - but what do I know? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Sep 2020 03:18 PM PDT I was involved in an accident where a road rager swerved into the shoulder of the road to pass me and when he tried to cut me off he hit my car. Well the shitty cop only wrote 3 sentences in the report. To sum it up it basically said both drivers claim the other cut them off. He then said that the other driver hit my car but only because he claimed I tried to force him off the road. This leaves out 90% of what really happened like all of the events of the guy originally cutting me off and brake checking me after I pulled out of a parking lot. The photo diagram clearly shows him trying to pass me in the shoulder illegally and the diagram is the only thing that really benefits me. On the scene the cop tells me that its 90% likely he was road raging and tried to pass me on the shoulder but told me that proving it would be tough. He also said the other driver changed his story 3 times but of course he doesnt mention any of that in his report. So there is basically just some minor scratches on my car. Out of principle I want to file a claim against his liability but on the advice of geico they tell me the odds of winning are low. They say it will most likely result in a 50/50 due to lack of evidence (a 3 sentence report). The other driver has not filed a claim in the 2 weeks since it happened and they advised that if he doesnt file one that I shouldn't either. Because if it results in 50/50 both of our rates will go up and neither of us will get anything. Does this sound like sound advice that the geico rep gave? Thanks for any help. Posted: 25 Sep 2020 03:16 PM PDT So i moved my auto insurance to garage insurance plan with my auto Insurance provider instead of full fledged insurance when Covid 19 started and also due to stay at home policies as result and im not driving my car too. This went on for 2 months... After few months i had to do my car registration renewal, and the county website did not agree to renew my license plates (possibly due to it under garage insurance) so i had to change my garage insurance plan to regular plan just for 4-5 days just to be able to renew my license plates online, and then immediately i called insurance company to put me back into garage insurance plan. At that time insurance agent warned me that Insurance company does like its customers moving between regular auto insurance plan and garage plan back and forth; and if i attempt to do it few more times, they could even cancel my insurance policy, and cautioned me against doing this in future. I told them that i was not doing it just for the fun of it but due to valid reason stated above i was forced to do it. im not sure if they even listened to me / considered the genuine reason for changing of garage plan to regular plan and then back to garage plan.. In mean time, my home rental company increased my rent to an exorbitant rent amount, which came up for apartment lease renewal. Got pissed off and i tried to find another place to live with economical cost which is 5-10 miles from my current address. Given the Garage insurance warning given to me by the auto insurance agent earlier, Can i silently move to the new place by driving car to the place and request for change of address for my policy after the movement, and hope nothing gets scrutinized by insurance ? and i get continued to be insured under garage insurance at my new address ? or its worth to move to regular plan for few days and then go back to garage insurance plan and risk my auto insurance cancellation as was warned by the insurance agent... Sorry for the long post. Please help !! [link] [comments] |
I hope my car is totaled... right? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 03:03 PM PDT Someone crashed into my car while it was parked and it's pretty badly damaged. Waiting to hear back from the body shop/adjuster to see if it's totaled. I am underwater in the car, but I have GAP insurance. Am I wrong in thinking that a total loss would be my gain? If they can repair it, then I'll just be underwater in a car that's had extensive repairs done to it. Is this correct? I am in Ohio. [link] [comments] |
Car ran over my foot who pays for my bills? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 06:42 AM PDT I was riding my bike and a car opened its door and knocked me over into traffic and the car behind me ran over my foot. I have a couple of broken bones and may or may not need surgery. A lot of my friends are pressing me to sue/file insurance claims. I kind of just want to be done with the whole thing provided I know my medical insurance will pay for my medical bills. I've been told that if there's a car accident the medical insurance may not be willing to pay and would default to auto insurance. Is that accurate? Edit: This is in New York City Edit 2: post title should have been who foots my bills [link] [comments] |
When does driving record update? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 02:02 PM PDT My wife got a speeding ticket in Nov 2019. We paid it and the points went on her record. Last week, I found a lawyer who was able to get the ticket changed after the fact from a moving violation to an equipment malfunction with no points. My question is, when do insurance companies usually pull driving records? And will removing this ticket bring our rates back down, or will they know that she got this ticket (even though it's off the record now) and thus charge us higher premiums for the forseeable future? If yes to the last question, will switching insurance companies bring my rates back down? We currently have Progressive and are located in MI [link] [comments] |
Previous Alcoholism affect on new Insurance Posted: 25 Sep 2020 01:14 PM PDT Hi, 2 years ago, I underwent two medical detoxes under the care of a physician in a hospital for alcohol withdrawal. I've been two years 100% sober. Now that I am applying for my own medical insurance through my employer (previously was on parents'), on the application it asks about substance abuse. I feel it necessary to be transparent about it. But is this going to shaft me on premiums or cause me to be outright denied coverage? I guess in your early 20s you don't consider the long term implications your idiocy will have. Anybody have any insight in to this? I assume the insurance company will not care about being 2 years sober, as the relapse rate among alcoholics is incredibly high. My detoxes were not even covered under my previous insurance plan, but I imagine to the insurance underwriter they will view a relapse highly likely and take in to consideration the myriad of health issues that plague alcoholics. I think the best thing to do would be upfront about it, but I feel like I'm pretty much screwed either way, yeah? Please advise. Edit: In USA. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Sep 2020 08:59 AM PDT WA state-- I'm thinking of dropping Collision coverage on my 1996 Buick. The car is a junk, not worth $500. The only thing I'll miss is free towing. (My plan would be to use 2 months insurance difference to get AAA.) It would cut my insurance payment in half. Current rate is $100/month. I only drive to docs about 5-6 times a year. (I'd give up my car completely if I wasn't too fat for Uber.) Sound reasonable? Any suggestions? Edit--Thanks for all the great advice. Off to change my insurance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Sep 2020 08:35 AM PDT So a couple weeks ago I accidentally rear ended someone. Filed a claim with the insurance company and with Covid they had me take pictures and send it to them. I opted for this route because I'm currently buying a house and I cannot spend my $1000 deductible at a body shop right now until that process is over. Now I've never been in an auto accident before so I didn't know I could take the car to a shop whenever at the time. They cut me a check for $1300 but because I took the money they deducted my deductible from it and only received $306 from the company, I've yet to cash/deposit the check. I got a repair estimate a little over $2000 as I only need a new hood and grille and maybe some other stuff under the hood. I'm being told to mail the check back to show I don't accept their estimate. I need to get the car repaired but I don't know if I'm still on the hook for the deductible? or if I gotta pay the whole repair cost because I took the check? Any help would be appreciated. Edit: I'm from Long Island, New York [link] [comments] |
