Did you just ask a claims adjuster to commit insurance fraud?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 09:18 AM PDT

I posted this in insurancepros and was going to cross post it but I realized bit everyone can read it then.

This is the first time this has ever happened to me but it blew me away when it happened.

I had to have my dishwasher repaired so we called our home warranty and they sent out someone to repair it. While he was repairing it, the guy just set off all my alarm bells with his constant bringing up of people always want new things and if you can't fix it he just has to report it and I can get a new one.

I figured I was just being overly cautious so I simply said, it's okay I am just looking to get it working again. About halfway through he paused and saw our stove which is super old and said, heat sink it laughed and I laughed and he resumed.

When he asked what I do I told him who I work for and he started to ask about reporting his car stolen and the process. I offered him advice of filing a police report which he didn't want to do. When I asked why he said well it's not stolen yet it just doesn't work... I said then that can't be reported as stolen

When he was finished up, he said, what if I help you get new appliances and you can tell me how I can report it as stolen to get my money for it. I then went into a lot of detail as to how easy it is for me to spot fraud and that once you get on the radar, you never get off and everything you do insurance wise and financially will be investigated for possible fraud.

At this point he left quickly, saying, I am a changed man. I was just kidding I was asking for a friend...

In a couple of weeks I will call the warranty company and advise them to flag the repair guys name and any claims he has done for possible fraud.

[AL]Smoke and water damage after neighbors had a fire

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 12:36 AM PDT

[Alabama] So my neighbors apartment started smoking. They weren't home, I smelled the smoke and heard their fire alarm. Called 911 immediately as I was knocking on neighbors doors etc. The aftermath of it is that all of my personal belongings are damaged by smoke and water.. upstairs and downstairs, the full unit.. Main question now at this point would be, I have Assurant policy.. never have been through anything like this. What should I do? What I've started with is telling my insurance company all of my belongings are damaged by smoke and water. I have no clue what some of these numbers mean but here are some numbers if needed. Personal property: 10,000 Deductible: 500 on perils Loss of use: 2,000 Replacement cost : included.

Any sort of help is greatly appreciated.

    Which exam is harder?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 05:20 PM PDT

Hey guys, I passed my Property and Casualty in TX with an 82! I did way better than I thought I would and I thought the actual exam was easier than the course on ExamFX. For those of you with both licenses, which exam do you think was harder; Property/Casualty or Life/Health? So far I think the material is much more complex in the Life/Health course.

    Avis rent a car

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 12:56 AM PDT

Hey everyone I know its super late in the eastern time zone but I just have not been able to sleep.

The story goes like this so I was panicking in the parking lot because my parents are very old and sick human beings so I needed to make sure they could get home and the time I was panicking I hit a car while trying to park the rear bummer of the other guy's car got hit not too badly and my front bumper of the rental car got messed up too. The thing I wanted to ask is I don't have insurance so I bought full covered insurance from Avis. I did some research and found out the LDW- Loss Damage Waiver helps the driver be less financially responsible for the damage done to the car. The problem is I have no idea how to go about this because I am waiting for the customer service of Avis to open up to call and report this incident since it happened when their office was closed. Also, the person car I hit, he said that he would be calling his insurance company tomorrow and trying to deal with them instead of reporting it to the collision reporting center. Since the body is still drivable and the damage wasn't too crazy I thought I should just report it to Avis and see what they say. did anyone else go through something similar or have any advice regarding avis. Also I live in Canada Ontario

Renter's insurance: Do I claim my purchase price or the current price?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 01:17 PM PDT

    Illinois, USA

I'm in the process of creating an inventory of items that I'll need to replace for a renter's insurance claim due to smoke damage caused by a fire in another unit in my building. (My insurance covers replacement cost.) I've created a spreadsheet listing a description, model, serial numbers, photos, and proof of purchase where I can.

My question is about what price to claim on some of my items. For example, I have a bag that unfortunately isn't able to be cleaned according to the cleaning service I've engaged (a reputable national company.) I originally paid about $250 for this bag on a deep sale, but the equivalent item today (they don't make my particular model anymore) retails for more than $500.

In this particular case, I have the proof of purchase, but it lists the $250 number. Is listing my discounted purchase price going to hurt my chances of being able to replace the bag with a full-priced model? Should I provide both prices, or just one of them? If I only list the current price of the replacement, should I leave off the proof of purchase?

I'm not trying to take advantage, I just don't want to lowball myself and be unable to replace my belongings with items of equivalent quality. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I was hit by a limo driver and his insurance ghosted me

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 05:39 PM PDT

As the title states I was hit by a limo driver in California on 8/21. I use my vehicle for work so going without a car was not an option so I was forced to rent. His insurance, however, has been ghosting me for the last month and I just got them on the phone on 9/22 for the first time. I gave them my statement and submitted the police report, eyewitness information, and all the pictures, but when i inquired about being reimbursed about the rental they told me they wouldnt reimburse me until they assumed responsibility and that they would not back pay the rental to the date of the accident they would only pay for it from the date they assume responsibility to the date i get the check. My question is what action do i have moving forward as this feels like im getting cheated.

[NJ renter insurance tenant] Mold claim

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 07:26 PM PDT

    Hi,

I'm suspecting mold in my apartment that has a basement. I have weird symptoms specially when I sleep I keep waking up for no apparent reason.

I won't go into details about my health and symptoms, but the point is I'm a tenant, suspecting mold or some kind of toxicity in my apartment, and I can't "see" black mold in the basement or something.

I have state farm renter insurance with mols coverage here are the terms:

    Imgur

    Imgur

I want to move out of this apartment and from what I read I need to leave most of my insured belongings there as they could carry Mycotoxins with me to a new place.

What do I do to file and have a claim? There is an online test for mold called ERMI from company called EnviroBiomics that you send them a swiffer sample and they check for mold DNA, is that enough evidence for insurance claim if the report shows mold? (Test is $250-$400)

Also how do I prove that I have been affected with mold for bodily injury claim? There is another company that test urine for mycotoxins but that is $380. Would that be proof for insurance that I am affected with mold? The urine test can't specify when mold exposure happened.

Also my policy with state farm started in June this year, before that I had Allstate for the last 2 years I have lived in this apartment. So they could argue that it had mold before I sign up with them, what do I do then?

My goal is, I want to leave this apartment because I don't feel healthy in it neither sleep good, and I want the mold claim to pay for my belongings ($30k worth) not to start from scratch ( I don't have enough money to rent a new apartment and buy all the things / electronics/ clothes/bedding/furniture .. ) I had in my old apartment.

Also I can't just stay put, as I need to get out to see if I'll get better.

    Please advise !

Update: pics of basement mold ( I think) : http://imgur.com/a/GLO1lHA

    Thanks!

Got into accident with Enterprise rental driver, delivered recorded statement from my adjuster to the other the Elco Adjuster of Enterprise. But got a Call from a different Auto Insurance asking about details of and my policy number, abit confused if i should give or just stick with Elco Adjuster

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 03:10 PM PDT

I am not sure if I should give details to Infinity auto insurance, I already dealt with an Elco Adjuster of Enterprise to provide details and give recorded statement to them last month. I got a call today from Infinity auto insurance agent, and I am very confused what to do, and being careful not to ruin my claim that i filed 2 months ago and still waiting for the results. My insurance is Progressive, gave a recorded statement to my adjuster than they delivered to Elco adjuster. I was told the other Party hired a Attorney by Elco Adjuster, than just waiting on their side to provide statement. But today all of a sudden i get a call from infinity Auto insurance asking of details and my policy number

    Accident Claim Payment

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 02:53 PM PDT

I was in a minor collision a few months ago and since my deductible is high and I knew I wasn't at fault, I went through the other driver's insurance.

A little backstory, I was out of the country for a year and a half and sometime during that year and a half, my car was paid off and the title was put in my maiden name and my mother's name. Since returning to the States earlier this year I haven't had the chance to request a copy of my title or change my name to my married name on the title.

Flash forward to now, I've been back and forth with this guy's awful insurance agency. In the 3 months since my accident, I've called them a dozen times and each time I either don't get all the information or I get the information I should have gotten on my last call. Anyway, I was told they could issue the check in my married name if I sent a copy of my marriage license. So I did. They also said they HAD to have my mom's name on the check since it's on the title even though she lives in a different state and wasn't involved in the accident, and my current insurance provider doesn't require her to be listed on it.

They sent me the check with my maiden name on it, which I can't use so I sent it back. When I sent it back they informed me that the check would hyphenate my maiden name and my married name.

    My question is,

Does the check have to HAVE my mother's name on it?

Are they right about having to hyphenate my name instead of just putting my legal married name on it?

    Thanks for your answers!

    Edit: My location is Oklahoma

Progressive threatens non-renewal or premium increase after dropping the at fault person

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 02:47 PM PDT

I'll try to make this short for you.

I had my mom on my auto policy, she was an occasional driver at best. One day she went out and totaled her car, and the car she hit. Initially the reps were super nice and helpful, and the moment the claim was closed I got a non-renewal notice. They listed my mom as a high risk (valid) so we agreed to drop her so I could stay insured. I had a great interaction with their customer service and really couldn't have asked for better. She decided to get a separate policy "just in case" she wanted to drive again in the next year she wouldn't have a lapse in coverage.

Today, she received her bill which was 3 times her old premium AND SHE DOESN'T EVEN OWN A CAR ANYMORE. She called to see what was going on and they told her for the next 2.5 years this will be her surcharge for the accident. She said she wanted to cancel and the insurance agent said "your son was mean on the phone and if you cancel we'll drop him, or we'll make him pay your surcharge."

Is this valid? Can they charge or drop me if she cancels this unnecessary policy? She was on my policy at the time of the accident, but I was instructed to drop her so it WOULDN'T effect my policy.

Edit: This is in Pennsylvania if that changes and state laws

Best insurance for a car hardly driven?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 06:17 PM PDT

    Question for auto insurance adjusters..

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 08:08 AM PDT

got into an accident a year ago. the other parties car was "potentially totaled". i had minimum limits foolishly so i'll be paying for that car as I was at fault.

Maybe a weird question but what happens to the totaled car that I am paying for? Does the insurance company auction it off for spare parts and keep the proceeds? Seeing as it's about 35k was just wondering if theres any chance 1-2k would be knocked off from that.

    2nd question.

The other party stayed 3 nights at a hospital for observation so i'll be paying for that as well (anything beyond my 15k limit). If they had medicare would I be paying medicare prices? Or would medicare bill my insurance company for higher prices.

    Thanks

    EDIT - this is CA

    Car in swimming pool?

So, I just saw a meme with a pickup at the bottom of a swimming pool. Have any of you dealt with this as an insurance claim, and if so, how is it handled? Would it fall under home or auto insurance, or a compilation of both?

Car totaled for paint damage - now what?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 05:08 PM PDT

My neighbor had workers using a sprayer to paint his house. They got paint on every surface of my car. I had the insurance company look at and they declared it was totaled. They estimate it would take $15,000 to repair all the damage (anything plastic of rubber has to be replaced). My car, a 2014 Audi Q5 that I love, is only worth around $13,000.

    So I have a few questions I hope you all can help with;

    1. How do I know the adjuster is giving me a fair value on the payout for my car?
    2. If I disagree, how do I counter
    3. I asked about a buyout price for the car. he said it would be a high price because the only problem was paint. But wouldn't it have a salvage title after this is all done?

If there is anything I should be asking that I am not, please let me know. I've never been through this. Especially now with used car prices inflated like they are.

The bot asked for these details. Because military, the car is registered in DC, was insured/garaged/damaged in SC, and physically in VA at the time of inspection and the decision to total it was made.

    edit: for clarity

    Passenger in Accident

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 05:00 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I was injuired in an accident recently in Alberta Canada, The vehicle i was in got rear ended and sustained injuires. The At fault party insurance told me to go after my friend insurance for my injuries and they would not cover any treatment which is odd. My friend thinks his insurance will increase, I don't understand we are 100% not at fault why are they forcing me to go through his insurance for treatment?

    Kind Regards,

My car insurance denied a claim for someone who said I hit them in a parking lot. What next? [Calif]

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 05:00 PM PDT

I returned to my car in a parking lot to find someone who swore I hit her car when I parked. We swapped insurance info.

I notified my carrier and provided photos. I cannot verify that the damage to my license plate bracket is due to this incident, so I will not be claiming anything for myself.

I got a voicemail from my carrier. They are denying the other person's claim. My question is, what do I do now? Obviously I wait for further developments. But if the other person decides to sue me, what next? Will my carrier take care of it or will i need to go it alone? I have pretty top-of-the-line coverage, but, of course, the devil is in the details. . If it is a case of "what does your policy say," what language do I look for in the policy? Are there buzzwords to use that my carrier will react to?

uHaul accident - all advice welcome

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 04:02 PM PDT

Hi all - I was in an accident with another car while I was driving a uHaul recently in the state of Utah. It will likely be ruled my fault. I purchased SafeMove from uHaul and I have a Nationwide personal car policy. I'm now hearing that neither my personal policy, nor SafeMove (RepWest), will not cover liability for damage to the other vehicle. Anyone have any ideas of how to manage this without bankrupting me? Any ideas how much the bill might be when it gets to me?

Note: the other driver was in a rented SUV, and is also from another state. The driver did not purchase insurance through the rental agency. Unclear if the other driver had personal auto insurance.

Question on how to get insurance

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 11:43 AM PDT

I'm going car shopping (in the US, AZ) in a few days with the intent to purchase and drive off the lot. I know I need insurance, and I've shopped around insurance companies with several cars and found a company that offers me the best rates - along with some backups. My question is, I need insurance in order to buy the vehicle from the dealer, and but I'm not 100% sure of the vehicle yet. When I get to the lot, and I decide, do I tell the salesperson "Hold on..." and then get a policy quickly on my phone, or is there a more formal way to start a policy without knowing my vehicle?

    Repeat vandalism

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 10:46 AM PDT

So I am thinking, if you have a really flashy car or something and it gets vandalized often, is that a flag for insurance companies ? Even if it does get vandalized often ? In this case do you just do the repairs yourself in order to avoid getting flagged ? In my policy my insurance does not go up for vandalism or hit and runs.

Was hit twice before I filed my first claim - how does prior damage work?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 01:54 PM PDT

It was actually over a year ago when I was first hit. I was parked in a parking garage on a Friday night and when I came back to my car, my rear bumper was severely smashed in. Whoever hit it took off.

I opened up a claim with State Farm and when they got back to me on the payout (around $400) I figured not to go through with it because I could buy a bumper and install it myself for $75. I've not done this yet as it hasn't been a priority.

However, this past Saturday, someone hit me again in a parking lot and drove off (like seriously....who does this?) They got me pretty good too. There is about a 2 to 3 foot long scratch with their color blue on it on the rear fender and a big scuff mark and some scratches on the same rear bumper with the original damage.

I can't fix that rear fender myself and it has to be fixed because my paint came off with it. so I need to file a claim on it. My question is, since they also impacted the rear bumper that had damage on my open claim before, would they still cover new damage?

The original hit would cause a body shop to put a new bumper on. This damage I'm not sure because I can't remember what damage came from this hit and what came from the last hit.

Ideally what I would want to happen is this -They give me a total payout on both the bumper and fender. I have a body shop do the fender, but I fix the bumper myself and pocket the difference. Is this likely?

Got in a collision two weeks ago and one of the parties involved refuses to do anything: need advice.

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 09:49 AM PDT

As the title implies, I was involved in a three car collision on September 11th, I filed a claim same day, and to this day nothing has been done. There were three vehicles involved. My vehicle came to a stop due to traffic, and the car behind me came to a stop, but the third vehicle - a lady that was on her phone went full speed 45 mph into the second vehicle which then caused that car to gain full momentum and completely go into my car doing some enormous damage. I had a brand new 2020 Mustang GT that I had just got two months ago, and it is now underivable due to engine and transmission problems(it is a manual). The women behind me had a 2018 corolla that ended up being completely destroyed as well. The third lady was driving an early 2000's SUV and is completely at fault. I filed a claim the day of, to expedite the whole process due to me just very recently getting the car, but it's been two weeks, with me calling the at fault drivers insurance company on a near daily basis and I'm being told the same thing - one of the drivers still has yet to call in and do the basic first steps such as leave the voice report. I am almost certain it is the at fault drivers that has been postponing everything and I am just wanting to know my options. Should I just hire a lawyer to expedite the process? If she hasn't done anything at this point, I'm sure this issue isn't of much importance to her and won't do anything soon. I'm in desperate need of some help as I've been borrowing a relatives car for the past few weeks and they need the car just as much as I do.

Please, I've never been involved in any sort of wreck before and am completely lost on how to proceed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
