    How to find better peers?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 07:10 PM PDT

"They" say you are the equivalent of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Or something to that effect.

I am struggling to find people who are better than me to be around. I appreciate my fellow executives at work, but we are all busy at work and with our families. Outside of work I want to surround myself with smart, successful people. I don't have a large friend group and those friends I have had forever are not really interesting to talk to anymore. I am a mom of young children and the other moms I meet are not necessarily the strong, smart women who make me better.

How do you find new friendships that make you a better person?

Anyone have good references or guidelines about refusing service?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 04:23 AM PDT

I have a service based tiny business. I am the only service provider. I'm busy catching up on work I had to stop during nonessential business closures. It's a little stressful, so I'd like to end customer relationships with a few difficult clients. I'm gay AF. Can I refuse service to rude customers who push their religious beliefs during service consultations? Or to people who follow my COVID safety protocols but then mention that they do not believe in the 'hype?' I have lost people in my life and I do not want to be reminded while I work. Currently I am just not returning their emails or phone calls. I service a wealthy major metro area and I'm afraid to get sued.

    Forming LLC for Nebraskan business

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 12:19 PM PDT

Hey, I have a quick question and was hoping someone here could help.I purchased ~$1000 in equipment on my personal CC to test the viability of by business a week ago. So far, I've made half that investment back so I want to form an LLC and push harder.

My question is, can i reimburse myself through my LLC to pay for the equipment? like tranfer ownership of equipment to my business and get the cash to pay off my CC? or is their some weird legal process I have to follow? I still have all reciepts, invoices, and I have a P&L started.

    Thanks in advance!

Looking for a dashboard for our small business.

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 05:04 AM PDT

I am looking at scrapping paper and converting the business over to a dashboard system. Currently we have 2 sections of the business that can use this.

    • We have data programmers that get given briefs from account managers.

    • When the job gets approved, we'd need to "push" that job over to a different department that can then see it.

Does anyone here use any dashboards or have any recommendations?

Important questions when buying a small business?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 05:08 AM PDT

Sorry if this has been/cant be asked, I just joined this community and scrolled for awhile but didnt see anything answering my question. AMA for more info, thanks in advance!

My buddy and I (both 23) are thinking of buying a small carpet cleaning business that said buddy used to work for. He vouches for the owner and the owner is also a foreman for a large construction company and is very busy so he hasnt done much with the business lately and gave us a number at 15,000, which includes the business and one person worth of equipment. Not sure what info is important to ask and figure out before we pull the trigger, we are both very very new to entrepreneurship. Any advice on questions for him and things to look into with the business before we make a decision would be very appreciated!

I made a project to collect feedbacks from customers, is it worthy to exist?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 03:03 AM PDT

My name is Vlad Zaev and I'm a sole developer of Feedo.xyz.

It is a simple tool to get feedbacks from your customers. In a day when my friend and I had a small pizza delivery service, I always wanted to know what my customers thought about my pizza. Was it good or not? Were they satisfied with a delivery speed? Did they need anything else, like new flavors or new drinks?

I wanted to know my customers' thoughts before they go to other web sites or apps to leave their feedback. No worries if it was a good feedback, but what about it was not? How soon you can find out that some negative feedback is crushing your reputation?

No, I didn't want to wait. So I built Feedo. The main purpose of Feedo is to let you to get feedbacks from customers as soon as possible. Feedo is a clear and easy tool. Nothing disturbs your customer from a quiz and your questions. No necessary logos or images, no long polls, no other buttons.

3 questions and a promo code for the next purchase. And if your customer happy and satisfied with your service, he or she will be shown links to your social networks or maps to leave a feedback there as well.

All new feedbacks go to a 'Received Box' on the main page. After all you can move them to other boxes as a Positive, Negative or Neutral box in a Trello like dashboard. Also you can add tags to each feedback to work it out later.

At Feedo you can find out your NPS score, number of clicks to your social networks and you can add Google Analytics to the quiz page. Small business owners who tried Feedo for the last two month told me that it gave them a good push for changes. One of them fired his administrator for rude talks with customers, other found out new products to sell based on buyers wishes, third increased her clients loyalty, fourth got back a lot of visitors with Feedo promo code system.

I hope you'll like my first sole project. I'd love to hear your thoughts. (feedo.xyz)

Interesting situation employee wise...what would you do?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 06:51 AM PDT

I own a few food trucks. We've been at it over 10 years. I have employees sign a confidentiality agreement due to owning a trademark and because we use frozen/prepackaged stuff. We're super fast paced and it helps with consistency and costs. We don't advertise anything as homemade.

Had a new guy that just assumed lead position invite a friend inside (the handbook says no one inside except employees and health dept) and told her all of our "secrets". Mainly that we use frozen this and bagged that. She replied "oooooh. Now I can bring this trailer down".

Other than that, he's the most amazing employee we've ever had. What would you guys do?

Tax deductible purchases and LLC versatility

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 06:29 PM PDT

I'll be opening an in-home preschool next school year. I have my LLC and will I'm ready to start making purchases. Am I correct in understanding that any purchases that are made will not be tax deductible until the business is active? Also, my plan was to host a few Parents' Night Out childcare events to help get the feel of working in my home. Could I use the LLC for this as well?

    Maximizing SEO on a budget

Maximizing SEO potential on a budget

So my sister and I have just set up our own small business. As we're just starting out we're on a bit of a budget (we both lost our jobs due to covid - yay).

We're not very savvy about SEO. We know that our website host platform does some of it for us but we want to maximize our SEO so we can increase our website traffic. We want to at least appear on the same search result page as our main competitor.

Does anyone have any tips on how to maximize SEO potential without bankrupting ourselves? Lol.

Advice on commission % for salesperson hire?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 12:10 AM PDT

Hi - We're looking to hire a sales associate who will be leveraging her network in bringing in new leads (suppliers that carry grocery products).

From these new suppliers, we will purchase products from them for resale. The associate will be compensated 100% on commission. I'm thinking a % of the order we put in. Average orders are anywhere from $1k-$5k per month on average and up to $20k per month. The cheaper we can obtain the products, the more volume we can purchase, and the higher the $ of order, so salesperson will be incentivized to negotiate for lower prices.

For simplicity's sake, I was thinking a fixed % (3%? 5%?) of the order and having trouble what would be the correct #. Also struggling with how to incorporate some sort of perpetuity factor, ie. after one year is the lead off the salesperson's books and no longer receiving commission payouts for that lead?

For perspective, a $5k order will yield a 10% ROI, so the % commission obviously can't be higher than 10%.

Could you share some advice based on your experience? Thanks!

Any other recording studio owners here?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 07:15 AM PDT

Interested if there are any other studio owners or even business owners within the music industry here. I'm about to end month two of owning and operating my studio, and am now looking to move into the more strategic planning side to begin planning how i can move the business from a side gig to my full time job. Biggest questions i have are:

    1) What differentiator did you implement that either took your operation full time (or notably increased your revenue)?

    2) What is your pricing structure and how flexible are you on it?

    3) What equipment/upgrades have you noticed attract the most clients or allowed for increased prices?

Thanks in advance - if there's a more specific sub for this please let me know!

What file transfer service do you use for your business?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 05:31 PM PDT

I'm a work-at-home transcriptionist and I'm trying to set up a file transfer service for use between myself and my clients. Ideally it would be embeddable in a contact form on my website. I considered WeTransfer but concluded that it's not very secure. Does anyone have experience using Dropbox in this fashion? Thanks!

    Expense reporting on business card

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 07:36 PM PDT

If I have a business card and I want to put 50% of my phone bill as a business expense, how do I go about doing that? Am I supposed to use the card for my monthly phone payment and then reimburse the company 50% at the end of the financial year? Or just claim deductions without ever paying against the business card?

    Thanks!

Question about multi-member LLC and business credit card

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 07:19 PM PDT

Hello Everybody! First off, thank you for taking the time to read my question! I appreciate the help!

My best-friend about a month ago started a online retailer for a particular trading card game selling singles (No its not Pokemon/Magic etc. any of the big ones - those markets are already established) This is for a currently growing card game. He's been having some great success with it, and we have decided to bring me onboard as another owner to help fine tune things, build the growing community of players, and grow the business.

My partner already formed a LLC in Oklahoma - in the research I've done I know we need to reform that LLC into a Multi-member LLC. However here is one of the tricky parts - I currently reside in Colorado and plan on relocating my family to Texas in like a year or so. I can't seem to find a straight answer for this on how to do this. The business is staying in Oklahoma its just my part since we will be partners in different states. How do we go about doing this without getting in trouble from the Goverment or IRS knocking our door come tax season!

2nd question - We are looking into getting a Business credit card to have all our purchases centralized and trackable. My partner when he created this business was applying to use a personal card and was getting rejected (For the life of me I cannot recall why, it wasn't bad credit, I'll ask and address the answer in the comments) anyways after he did that, he just said - I'll just get a business credit card - well he got rejected for that, for being rejected for the personal card to many times, haha. Got stuck in that cycle. Will reforming "reset" this cycle - or do I need to be the one to apply for the business credit card this time?

It sounds like we are a bunch of "ding-dongs" we aren't (at least some days, haha) just trying to get some of this complexity cleared up so we can continue to strive for success and we want to do it correctly. No jail time us for.

Thank you all for your input!

Trying to figure out best way to advertise online tutoring business

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 01:02 PM PDT

Hi, I started my tutoring business a couple months prior to the pandemic starting. I've been tutoring privately for more than five years and decided to quit my part time job to work for myself full time. I'm a sole proprietor. The spring semester was a mess, but I actually did fairly well. I was in the black by May. I've advertised on Craigslist all over the US, and spent some money on google ads and Facebook ads. The majority of my business has come from Craigslist, and maybe 30% from word of mouth. I need advice on the best ways to advertise a tutoring business that teaches online only.

    One stop consulting shop?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 08:23 PM PDT

Hey small businessers, could I gauge interest or get feedback?

I'm kicking around the idea of partnering in one stop consulting service. 3 consultants partner to be on retainer for the price of 1.

    Lawyer. CPA. Marketer.

Our price would range anywhere from $99-$1500+/mo for to-be-determined degrees of consulting access. If a specific done-for-you service is needed that's a la carte with that expert.

We'd offer our consulting via closed FB group with other business owners so all could learn together, do weekly trainings, and offer email support if the consult topic is sensitive.

Thoughts on if small business owners would be interested in that?

For those who hired a graphic designer for their business, how did you find the person and what criteria where you looking for? I have a small budget and want to hire a graphic designer bc I tried to do it all myself and it's just not working out. But I am scared to actually hire one bc I don't know if the person will end up being any good.

Have you guys ever loaned money to an employee?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 03:49 PM PDT

I have an employee who is rather new but I've known them for 10-15 years from before I took over. They're a bit lazy but since I hired them they've done fine work. Issue is they are now sick and constantly telling me about their medical bills. I'm considering paying them or just loaning the money. Never was in a situation like this but I feel bad for the person. I don't know how true everything they e told me is but i do have some doctors notes and so far I told them to bring me all the information and I'll see what I can do.

If I do loan them money how do you have them pay it back? They already owe me money because their projected payroll paid them for a whole week when they only showed up for one day and told me that the hospital kept delaying their release, for that I told them don't worry about it we'll figure it out when you're allowed back to work.

So yea I know you can't just take or deduct directly from a paycheck. So do you have them literally bring you cash or checks to pay you back? I've had employees abandon their job with cash collected and I always just eat it because I have no real solution for that. I'm not going to the police for $2-300 or court even. My only recourse in that scenario is to never employ them again.

Price I pay for no background checks I guess but yea, this person appears sort of genuine but I do know they've been fired from a few jobs since I've known them.
