    For the last 5 years I was trying to break into a particular business. Let's call them "Central Services and Co". Once a year, I would phone up this company. It would always be "Bob" who would answer. The conversation would always last about 15 mins and would always end with Bob declaring "next time we need XYZ, we'll call you". It never came to anything. So, I kept them on the list and still sent them our newsletters. So, this August, it was time to call Bob again and listen to more of his lies. However, Bob was on holiday and another gentleman "Jim" answered the phone. This call ended up with "next time we'll use you". During the week, Jim called wanting to place a large order with us. Obviously, Bob was letting on to be on a decision maker when he was not.

    Lesson: Persistence really does pay off. Sometimes to win a sale or account all it takes it go get speaking to someone different. Try contacting them at an unusual time. While Bob was letting on he was a decision maker, he we was really a gate-keeper in disguise. Ringing in mid-August meant I was able to avoid Bob completely and get speaking to a real decision maker. It pays to be persistent and it also pays to contact "difficult" accounts at unusual times.

    For anyone that needs to hear it: trust your process and keep grinding.

    Last year I was 3rd in revenue across a floor of 80 sales people. I hit over 130% and made a bunch of money. It was great but that was last year.

    January was tough with inflated quotas. February was tougher with bad press for the company I work for. March was dead with COVID-19. My clients panicked and my prospects stopped buying.

    I continued to call, acted as a consultant, shot the shit with them, played therapist for guys who were afraid of losing their businesses. I worked 2x as hard for 1/4 the pay. I sold when I could but didn't hit goal once.

    Finally, things are starting to turn around. If I can get these final contracts in (and I will but don't want to jinx it), I'll hit goal for the month and my first accelerator for the year, resulting in a $10k commissions check.

    Next month looks fat and I'm focusing on adding to the top of the funnel.

    For those of you who feel discouraged: keep working and trust your process. Treat people right and work for the deal and in the long run it will pay off.

    Is it possible to move from a Sales Engineer role directly to an Account Executive or Account Manager role?

    In the tech/SaaS industry, is this move feasible without having to restart at the bottom of the totem pole as an SDR/BDR? I am a Sales Engineer and am interested in moving to a pure sales role in the tech sector, but I'm wondering if my experience can get me to skip the entry level sales positions.

    Sales trainers: How do you make your training engaging over zoom?

    I have a full on loaded prospecting course and full objection handling course. Part of it was done through a PowerPoint presentation but the other half was conducted over the script I used and process and cadence. It's all extremely in depth but prospecting isn't a topic that's "sexy" and so it's a lot of me talking, asking some questions , having the rep listen to my calls I've done, etc.

    Between Fanatical Prospecting and Never Split the Difference, I feel like my course ends up beating the dead horse so to speak.

    Any recommendations while doing the presentations virtually?

    Quick Start/Best Practices for fresh SFDC Setup

    Does anyone have good resources they could share (checklists, best practices, guides, etc.) for standing up a fresh salesforce.com account? There will only be 2-3 users to begin with, but will quickly grow to 5-10.

    The company is well established but hasn't had sales & marketing ever. We're expanding and for the first time in 12 years we will actively be pursuing net-new deals. I'm new to the company and have taken on a player/coach role. I have been an avid SFDC user for 15 years and, when necessary an admin as well, but i'm scratching my head trying to figure out where to start with a fresh install. Ideally, i'd love to replicate a lot of the process in my previous company but I'm feeling overwhelmed at where to begin trying to remember all of the dependencies, things we didn't like, things i personally didn't like or wanted to improve, etc.

    One thing was to start with our sales process and work backwards from there, but again. i'd love some confirmation from anyone who's done this recently. The one thing about Salesforce.com that's always stuck in my head is that when you set things up in the wrong order or bring data in the wrong way, it can create a lot of additional, unnecessary work cleaning it up.

    How do you go about discounting your license fee when making an offer for a usage? E.g. e-learning license per user costs $400 per year and the company has potentially 20000 users.     new to sales - windows/doors specifically

    I'm a 21 year old female and my father owns a window and door replacement business. We do windows and door replacements primarily but also do decks, siding and roofing.

    My father offered a sales position to me so I can make some better money than I currently to support myself throughout school, but the only sales experience I have is selling cosmetics and tanning lotions, lol.

    I'm looking for some advice on how to succeed in this business and some tips and tricks on how to close deals. I also would love to know some honest pros and cons of the job.

    Also, cause we all love money, what's a realistic income I should expect as a window saleswoman?

    Any interesting courses on Public Speaking / presenting? (for B2B sales)

    Udemy is running a sale today and most of the courses are 10-12 bucks. But there are so many to choose from! Have you tried anything that helped you with PS?

    My experience with Udemy courses is mixed. Generally, I tend to purchase discounted courses in Business, personal development and technology. Some are OK, some are just money grabbers, not even worth the 10 bucks.

    Any recommendations, not just in Udemy, are much appreciated. Thank you!

    Sales Career Advice

    What advice would you give others, no matter if they are new to sales, been in sales for years, or a long-timer.

    The following is the advice I give anyone that works in sales:

    - there are a lot of bad products out there and chances are you will end up being hired at a company at some point in your career (most people this will happen more than once) and don't be afraid to think inside your head "this product sucks, I'm out of here." It's not worth the time, stress, or pay to try and sell a crap product.

    - During the interview process, and it's a young company, try to figure out if it's a family-owned company. Chances are the old guy will have his offspring as leaders in various departments (HR, Sales, Tech). It's one of the worst environments you could ever work in. Avoid it. You can thank me later.

    - If they are basing your day to day work based on the total number of calls or emails, then you have a crap employer.

    - chances are you will get fired multiple time because you missed quota. Don't worry about it since most salespeople get fired multiple times in their career. Just keep moving forward and finding a company that is worth working for and has a good product. A good product sells itself most of the time.

    21 year old looking for a sales job in Tampa Florida, need help where to start.

    Besides being a for 2 years waiter, I only have limited experience in sales, about a years worth. Spent a summer in d2d and another 6 months as the program director at a jiu jitsu gym. I'm moving from California to get away from a bad environment and the hell hole that is LA to Tampa. I have no idea where to start finding a sales job or what to be even looking for. Anyone have any advice for young guy wanting to continue his sales career, moving across the country?

    Advice for a novice salesman with ADHD in a fast paced environment?

    Hey everybody. I currently work in sales at a very small and wildly successful startup company, and there is absolutely no structure to our sales team, so we are sort of left to sink or swim with our accounts. I definitely struggle with ADHD and retaining information in the fast paced environment, and feel like I need to add some structure to maintain all of my accounts. I've felt fairly desperate to get my stuff squared away and feel like I am in control of my craft.

    Our company does not use a CRM, but I started using Hubspot to help keep me accountable and on top of things.

    Do you have any advice for someone in my situation to stay focused, organized, and successful?

    Plz help changing industry’s?? 21 year old insurance broker

    Hey guys,

    Became a broker right out of high school. I do pretty well, definitely above average on the sales side. However I'm getting to the point where I am so burnt out on insurance. Based on my personality I'm definitely a sales person through and through.

    I was considering going to college and getting a finance degree, would be a fiduciary advisor. However I know plenty of people with no degrees and are crushing it in sales. And again I'm definitely an above average salesman. I'm just so burnt out I feel like its affecting my production at this point.

    -1 what industry are you guys in? And how did you get started?

    -2 is the degree even a good idea? I can stay where I'm at and make more than a lot of college graduates.
