Tales of a 'Covid' coffee cart

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 09:09 AM PDT

I'm on the brink opening a coffee and snack stall at my local station. I started working on plans for the business before covid - a friend has euphemistically deemed my plans 'covid coffee'. I'm doing this as a side hustle alongside my studies. Wondering how likely it is to work out... Will customers want to buy coffee and breakfast snacks these days? I'm now wondering if I should take the finance I've lined up for it, go ahead, or switch my attention to one of my other business ideas... I'm also thinking of learning shoe making and doing a business around that! Or proofreading and academic tutoring. I would really appreciate any feedback on plans and ideas!

    Crushing Startups via the Government

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 07:52 AM PDT

I've worked in Government Relations for a number of years solving problems and crushing competition for multinationals. It's been soul crushing work.

I want help startups compete with larger businesses by providing government relations support, but many startups/entrepreneurs can't afford the services. I think Government Relations & Public Relations for equity could be a business model for me to help.

From your perspective, is there a need for this in the market? Would the services for equity appeal to you? Do venture capital firms currently offer this support?

    Thanks!

Feel free to contact me with Government Relations questions.

    TikTok house? Viable business opportunity?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 11:27 AM PDT

This is a TikTok house business idea. If you are uninterested in TikTok or dislike it in general. Feel free not to waste you're time on this.

Hello r/entrepreneur, I am a young Entrepreneur from Ireland. I am sure you have seen the craze that is TikTok and the bank some of these young stars are making. We have seen TikTok houses pop up all over the United States and proceeding to cross to Europe and around the world. The first Tik Tok house has appeared in Ireland a few days ago. I expected this months ago and was waiting for the day it landed. 10 young people landed in a mansion in a prestigious area of the capital Dublin.

My idea came shortly after I saw the house launched. I was thinking of creating an opposing house with the idea of a sense of drama of house vs house type deal. I don't care about TikTok or anything to do with it but I see an opportunity but a real business out of this. I want to know if anyone else here has looked into this type of business route of setting something like this up. I know a lot of people here will label this post/business as cringe etc etc but I want opinions purely business related.

My idea is blatantly copying their house and creating a sense of drama between the two houses and making it a content cash cow and broaden our name till we soak up as much followers and revenue the drama brings. It will obviously be more then drama with the other house but that in my eyes is a easy lift off for the house. I would like to hear business opinions on this and anybody experienced in the field of this new trend.

    Thanks.

    Thinking of incorporating

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 01:50 PM PDT

I have been thinking of setting up an entity that will start out with me as the only owner/employee in order to bid for federal software development contracts and set up a presence online. I'm trying to figure out what type of entity works best if there is a chance that it might not make any money or get any business for a while.

I Left My Job to Build a B2B Online Marketplace. What to Focus on and What to Delegate?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 01:37 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I need your advice in identifying the most important thing or two of my business to focus all my energy in tackling as I start. There are so many aspects like technical, sales, marketing, accounting, recruitment, legal work, etc.

1- What tasks I must do myself, as a founder/owner, and shouldn't depend on others to do them?

2- What tasks I should hire others to do?

3- What tasks I can outsource, at least in the first year or two?

    My current plan:

Year 1: Build the MVP myself initially to test the market, which I think I can do, then get a technical partner onboard in the second half of the year. We would be co-building the product together until product/market fit (hopefully!).

Year 2: I will be basically doing all other things on my own (e.g. marketing, selling, etc).

    Year 3: Recruit and delegate!Year

4: Focus and refine the product.

    Year 5: Growth.

The main reason for posting this is I don't want to spread myself thin and waste my time and energy in the minor stuff. Please enlighten me!

    Thank you!

Getting a domain name for a new business

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 01:26 PM PDT

My friends and I are working on a startup and we're about to start building the website. I'm honestly confused about how domain names work. Is there a way to get a domain name without using some third party company? Can I not just make a domain and website if the domain isn't already taken and not have to run it through some business like godaddy?

    Suggestions for starting my LLC

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 11:59 AM PDT

Hello, I'm looking to turn my hobby finally into a full fledged business. I do audio production work and I am looking to make it into a legitimate business. I'm in California for reference.

Does anyone have experience with legalzoom or any third party websites that assist you on filing the proper requirements? I would be willing to do the work myself if anyone has any suggestions for good YouTube videos on this as well, I'm just not sure who the best to follow would be.

I'm looking towards making it an LLC and eventually hiring people if I get enough business. Thanks in advance!

Anyone have experience selling their own info product with paid advertising?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 10:28 AM PDT

I just thought of an information product that I think I could sell very easily. I know this because I think if I saw it I'm pretty sure I would be curious and end up buying it. I think it appeals to something a lot of people want to do and does not really exist on the market that I know of.

I'm gonna go over my rough plan and I want you guys to give me feedback because I am a noob to PPC.

-Use cheap lower quality advertising streams to get a ton of impressions (think adult traffic) and have outrageous ads with a highly comedic viral quality. I think a lot of people will end up screenshotting the ads and showing them to friends or posting it on social media.

-The url will lead to a clickfunnels page that has an email opt in

-I'm going to use markethero to optimize the email funnel

-I am also going to list the product on affiliate marketplaces like clickbank as well and try to find affiliates to promote my product

Any thoughts on my plan? I listed some funnels and email companies, but if you know of any better ones let me know.

    Need Advice

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 09:51 AM PDT

    Hello all,

A little background before I dive into the advice portion of this post. I am currently 28 years old and have a bachelors in accountancy, while currently in an MBA program that will be completed in roughly eight months. When I was going to school for my bachelors, I hustled hard to find experience in my field, which I achieved and resulted in being hired full time as an auditor at a public firm my Jr. year of college. This propelled me forward into my career, which landed me a Controller position at a mid sized company by the time I was twenty-seven (I have been here a little over a year). Most controller positions require a minimum of ten years of experience, but due to providing a ton of value to one of my audit clients they offered me a job running their accounting department at a pretty decent salary especially for my experience level. I have been excelling here and committed a ton of hours to learning the company inside and out.

With all of that being said, I have always known that running a business or being a partial owner is what I am meant to do. Each and every day that passes by, all I can think about is how miserable I am working for someone else. I am currently not receiving any pay increases, due to a salary freeze, which is complete bs as we are hitting record profitability numbers. This is just one situation which is kind of frustrating, although I understand the preemptive measures being taken due to Covid uncertainties. The owner of the company treats everyone like dirt and is the most inconsiderate person I have ever worked for.

My wife is a stay at home mother, we have a year and a half year old son and a newborn and I am the sole provider for our family currently. We have about 23k in savings and minimal debt, although we live in one of the highest cost of living areas in California and there is no way to minimize our monthly rent without moving an hour plus away.

Outside of bookkeeping and accounting services, do any of you have ideas of side hustles I could perform with my current skill set? My experience is in the leasing and construction industries and I am highly interested in getting into rental real estate, which would require additional funds. As of right now, I am going to complete my masters program, look for online teaching positions (to supplement additional income) once I have my masters, and pursue my real estate license. I have considered consulting, but not sure which facet to pursue and at my age it may be difficult to obtain clientele that trusts a younger adult.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I apologize in advance for the essay. Also, if anyone needs accounting assistance feel free to let me know, I enjoy helping people and will take the time to provide advice if you need it.

    Making Money on TikTok

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 12:39 AM PDT

Hi, everyone! I recently joined TikTok (less than two months ago) and I'm already making some money from it. Although it's nothing major, it still was a pleasant surprise and I enjoy it.

Essentially, I am a growing public persona in my country in the artistic sphere. Since I opened my account, I've gone to 720 which for me is a lot considering I have only 400 IG followers. However, money started coming in as people started requesting personal "happy birthday wishes" from me in the form of a TikTok video. I've kept it simple so far: $7 for a simple 15 sek. greeting and $35 for a 60 sek. "all-inclusive" greeting including the birthday song. People seem to love it.

This just got me thinking what else might be possible. Haven't googled this or anything. Just thought I would ask you guys for some advice and see if anybody else has any similar stories to tell.

    Whishing you a marvelous day!

What are some good books about ruthless CEOs?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 08:00 AM PDT

I recently watched Margin Call for the first time and I was really impressed by Jeremy Irons character. He comes off as a ruthless chairman who is willing to do what it takes to ensure survival of the company. Sort of like a modern day Titan of Industry. It got me thinking, if this guy wrote a book what could I learn from it? How to handle tough decisions? How to listen for the music and act when it stops? How to give off such a powerful presence?

I've previously read Jack Welch's Straight From the Gut, but I felt it mainly talked of his life and career path with a focus on GE related business structure and decisions. I enjoyed the book but right now I'm looking for something with more bravado.

Odd request but does anybody have any recommendations?

Is starting a financial blog worth the time?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 11:00 AM PDT

Hello I am 22 years old and am currently a Sophomore in college and cannot think of any side hustles that can make me some income! I tried dropshipping but cannot find a niche. I thought about what I am passionate about and that is talking about money saving strategies, investment options, and talking about money in general. Do you think it's worth my time as a college student to create a financial blog and hope to make some decent income on it talking about what I learned? Also if you have any side hustle/business ideas that you would recommend I am open ears. Thanks!

What businesses tend to use customer pictures early in the sales process?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 03:07 AM PDT

Recently IBM released a case study using machine learning to help auto glass repair shops automatically quote customers.

I've thought that tattoo removal would be another good case for image processing based automated quotes.

Can you guys think of any other industries where photos play a large part in the early sales process?

Another one that came to mind was hair transplants.

WooCommerce, POS, scale integration and stock sync

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 06:28 AM PDT

Ok, i'll try to be crystal clear. I'm opening a grocery in bulk.

That means, people come with empty pots and fill it with our products, like rice, peanuts, even shower gel, lot of things.

    Aaaand the problem comes.

I would like to scale empty pots, put a sticker on, and when people fill it, I just have to scan it and it will remove the empty weight. (the sticker should resist to the washmachine)

Also I need my website and physical sells to be sync with the stocks. Shopify could do that, but it's not really a solution to weight based pricing as I can read .

To sync everything I thought about putting my stock on one excel sheet, and link it to the website AND the POS software. That was, the excel sheet would be updated by both the website and the POS and would act like a bridge between these 2.

    But I don't know if:

    1 - That's possible

2 - What POS and which type of scale and cash register could do that

3 - A cash register with an integrated scale would be a must

Someone got the same type of business or know something that could help ? Thank you in advance.

Stock surplus of 0.5 mm PET clear sheet - Any suggestions for clearance?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 06:06 AM PDT

We have about 3 pieces of 1-ton pallets of 0.5 mm, PET clear sheet and no customer to buy them currently. Doing trade of materials, Eastern Europe based.

This is a high-quality grade that is usable for lots of things, but especially for face protective shields in these times. Unfortunately our deal did not go through and we have been left holding the bag/material, and do not have enough local demand. It sells but its drip drip and it will take forever to clear.

Any suggestions how we could clear it? TIA

Edit: Was thinking of exporting it in Europe or the US (more difficult with transport for that) but have no leads and we're an inbound-only firm.
