What are some creative approaches you've taken to reach b2b customers during covid? Posted: 10 Aug 2020 06:53 AM PDT The phone directories seem dead and email is a wasteland. What else is everyone trying? We're using LinkedIn and thinking about direct mail/webinars/podcasting - what have other folks here found success with? Billboards? Radio ads? Leaning into referrals? Any sales folk with Aspergers? How do you handle it? Posted: 10 Aug 2020 08:28 AM PDT Curious to know if there are any sales folk out there on the autistm spectrum / have aspergers? Does it make you better or worse at your job? Anything you do to manage your condition? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Aug 2020 05:50 PM PDT Can't believe I'm asking this as a 15 year sales veteran but how do you sales pros dress when going into industrial accounts? I call on folks from C suite on down to shop floor. Metals industries only from Mill to fab shop. I've changed my wardrobe from slacks to khakis to jeans and always end up dirty or with torn clothing. Bosses suggest slacks. Colleagues wear jeans. Most customers In mills dress way down or in uniform. I have gotten lazy and am a jeans guy unless it's a big meeting. What do you all think? [link] [comments] |
Are my companies sales goals unrealistic? Posted: 10 Aug 2020 08:53 AM PDT Starting in March, my company has increased our monthly sales targets anywhere from 10-20% of what our targets were before the pandemic. With most of the buyers we deal with being very cash conscious at this time, it seems a bit alarming... As a team, our productivity levels have gone up significantly and I can confidently say that my team and I are working much harder than we were when we were all back in the office. However the hard work is not paying off. Only about a small handful of reps meet our monthly targets and I would say the vast majority don't even come within 70% of that target. Now I understand that targets are targets but the thing is that my company is serving termination after termination for reps "not meeting their targets". These are all reps that were very high performers before the pandemic. Does this sound a little off to you guys? Are they just doing this to "fairly" let people go? "We gave you a goal and a chance to succeed, and you failed" type thing? I just can't seem to wrap my head around why they would not just properly adjust our monthly targets to reflect realistic expectations... [link] [comments] |
THE BEST TIPS FOR BECOMING A SUCCESSFUL SALESMAN- START TODAY! Posted: 10 Aug 2020 12:16 PM PDT Hey guys, I've been in sales for all of my professional career and thought I would make a channel dedicated to helping all individuals who need sales help. As of now there are so many companies hiring remote sales people so if you haven't given sales a go, it is a great opportunity right now. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Aug 2020 04:41 AM PDT i've just seen someone else on here ask a question about dress code for meetings. and it got me thinking about how i dress to everyday work and the sort of impact it has. ive only been doing sales since january and of course progress has been slow on account of covid but i have it on good authority that my managment are happy & impressed with what ive been doing. my question surrounding the dress code is that, essentially: there isnt one here. it cant be silly like coming to work wearing a tracksuit but jeans and a tshirt is fine, only managment really dress up for work and even then its pretty relaxed. the reason it matters to me is im only 19, and i dont want to be seen as a kid. because simply put, i am not. but the higher ups are quite old school. i was thinkging about the phrase "dress for the job you want, not the one you've got" and thought maybe it'd be worth investing some money into some nice button down oxford shirts & trousers in order to present myself in a more mature, proffessional manor. regardless of what my peers are wearing to work. i was wondering if anyone had any experience in a similar sort of situation where there was no dress code at their place of work, but dressing more formally worked in their favour. mainly in regards to being recognised as a young proffesional instead of that kid who started as an admin apprentice aged 16/17 and is just sorta still here lol. really im jsut checking to see if its worth putting a few hundred quid in to nicer work attire. any advice is appreciated :) [link] [comments] |
Wheres the relief for sales rep who depend on commission ? Posted: 10 Aug 2020 11:43 AM PDT I see all this relief for the unemployed. But how about the man or woman who works for commission and can't get sales because most companies are on budget freezes ? Does anyone else feel this way ? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Aug 2020 06:30 PM PDT to preface, this is in Tech Sales for device management and security (UEM). Since starting my first sales job as a BDR in September, I have had a rapid growth at my company. I was promoted to an ISR role only after one quarter to a top tier territory, displacing a complacent tenured rep. With this promotion came a bump from $50k ote to $65k ote. I was happy with this bump only being 22 years old and a few months into the gig. I started my new role February, at the beginning of the fiscal year. Jump forward to March, COVID hits. With this came a freeze on 401k match and merit based raises. At the time this didnt effect me so much so I wasn't worried. We all go to work from home and of course there are the obvious hits, but I make sure to grind and finish the quarter at 112% quota, finishing in the top 20% of the company. Q2 starts and is very slow for everyone. The whole company is performing around 50%. I continue to push, making sure to fill my 8-5 with 100% talking to potential purchasers only, using overtime everyday to get my admin work done and prep for the next day. I was putting in anywhere from 50-60 hours a week, but it all paid off when only 3 reps hit quota and I finished at the top of them at 170%. Now we are in the present, just this week the CEO sent out an email informing the company about restructuring. They moved things around within the business units, some higher ups got new roles, and of course some reps in our business units were laid off. The CEO made his messaging very clear that this restructuring was needing to happen at this time regardless of COVID and that our company is healthy financially. After the layoffs were finalized 2 reps on our team were laid off. I was then contacted by my manager and told that my territory would now be growing and they are adding one of the laid off reps territory to mine and this was a permanent change, not just temporary coverage. Unfortunately, since merit based raises are still frozen, there would be no OTE change. This became gut wrenching the more and more details came out about the position. My quota jumped from $250k to $340k, and since no changes would be made to my OTE, this means all of my commission tiers lower in percentage, INCLUDING MY OVER ATTAINMENT NUMBERS. I used to get 5.1% on all closed business over 130%, and now I only get paid 3.6% in the same tier. This makes me feel like I am taking on a lot more work and increasing my risk to make LESS MONEY since my quota is so much higher. I took these concerns back to manager, who has been a great mentor to me my entire time at the company, and he emphasized that he would not put me in a bad position and that this was a great move for me to demonstrate how successful I could be. He also stated he knows I will not make any less with this change and he will help me make sure of that (he is already covering for a deal in this transition that could close at a significant amount). I expressed to him that if nothing else can be changed, I would like to change the over attainment percentage back to what it previously was before the quota change, he said nothing can change at this time due to the freeze. Now this brings me to my predicament. I am carrying the largest quota in the company while holding the lowest OTE schedule of any ISR. It feels like a pretty clear over exploitation of hard work. I am going to have another meeting with my manager this week over this and dont know what to say. Do I outline how other reps not working as hard as hard of me are getting paid more than me on base alone, or does that sound too entitled? Do I continue to push on getting a raise even though with the freeze all raises must be approved by the CEO? Any advice would be appreciated. I feel stuck because on one hand, I feel great for being trusted with the additional responsibility and not being laid off, on the other hand I feel extremely underpaid for how hard I work. Please share your thoughts on the situation and what you would do if you were in my shoes. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Advice On Whether To Take A New Role Or Not Posted: 10 Aug 2020 11:28 AM PDT So I was laid off during COVID 19 and now have a final interview on Friday with a new company. My question is if an offer letter is presented do I take it? (i.e. is any job when unemployed better than no job?) Why am I concerned? (See the notes below) - Interviewed with a few different people and nobody knew who my previous role was with (they are a direct competitor of said previous role) It seemed like I knew more about their business then they did. - I think they are going to offer a package (salary and commission) that is on the low end of the scale especially with the fact they expect more work then normal for the role - Marketing there seems not existent or near non existent Off the top of my head that is the big concerns. Am I overthinking? Is it best to get ANY job and then look for a new role once there and at least making money again? I knew my colleagues in sales would be able to help me out :) [link] [comments] |
Why do some AEs treat their SDRs poorly? Posted: 10 Aug 2020 02:13 AM PDT Isn't this a bad strategy since it is a symbiotic relationship? Is it just from stress? Needing to have someone else to push around? What is the best way to push back on this? I have other reps I can support, but I'm actually pretty pissed. [link] [comments] |
Would people here ever consider moving back to an SDR role after working as an AE? Posted: 10 Aug 2020 09:56 AM PDT Like many people on this sub, I lost my job in March due to Covid-19. I have over ten years of sales experience and most recently worked for a SaaS company in Canada. The 12 months before Covid were my most profitable in terms of commission. I was laid off despite being the best performing sales person in the company. The excuse given my boss was that I had one of the largest salaries (outside of the executive team) and they needed to save as much money as possible and fast! The first couple of months job hunting were very promising, I was doing intro calls for new companies every other day, I even got to the final stages with two enterprise-level companies. Unfortunately, that was at the beginning, I noticed in the last two months I rarely even get an intro call for the jobs that I apply to. I'm thinking that I should just start applying for SDR roles now but was curious what people on this sub thought about taking a backward career move? Part of me wants to hold out for a AE role (luckily I have money to hold tight for the remainder of the year) but then I turn on the news and realize the economy is only going to get worse before it gets better. Would be interested to hear feedback from anyone who's made the move from AE back to SDR. How was the experience, was it worth it etc? [link] [comments] |
Am I qualified for an SDR role? Posted: 10 Aug 2020 09:50 AM PDT Hello All, I saw a post yesterday by u/noelbean that was very similar to my situation. I'm also currently a leasing agent at a property management company. I do all of the market outreach at my property, and I cold call leads daily. I graduated with a degree in accounting, but I do not wish to pursue a career in the field. Working in leasing for the last year has sparked my interest in sales, and I was hoping to go for an entry level sales position. I seen Victory Lap recommend in a few places as a good bootcamp for my area (Chicago). However, it looks like I'd either pay tuition or enter an ISA with them. Do you guys think I should be looking into a bootcamp to garner some skills, or am I in a position to apply for roles now? Please share your thoughts. Also, if some of you can recommend companies in my area, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, [link] [comments] |
Been put on a performance improvement plan (PIP), during COVID! Posted: 10 Aug 2020 09:46 AM PDT Hi guys, Feeling some bitterness writing this out! As we know, COVID has affected businesses dramatically over the past few months. As a result our targets haven't been met across our two products however activity is at an all time high. The product I'm in is classified as a start up really, and the other product is the primary sales line. Today I've been told I'm on a PIP, due to not meeting my targets of booking appointments. This is for a product that specialises in the new hire onboarding side of the recruitment. I've had tonnes of objections for this in my prospect calls, no money, redundancies, people on furlough, not enough hiring... all due to the current climate. However it's all been taken out on me like it's my fault? I'm trying all the tricks with my prospects, talking about the future, how it will save them money anyway etc. They're just not interested. Numerous other workers are just as disgruntled for different reasons, however I appear to be the only SDR on PIP as I'm the only one on this hiring product... The other product team which is ALSO underperforming seem to get the benefit of the doubt with no consequences. This is such a horrible time to have this all put on me... Do I jump ship and get out while I can, have a horrible feeling they're going to sack me? TLDR; Been put under performance review during COVID, should I leave? [link] [comments] |
Sales Navigator vs. DiscoverOrg? Posted: 10 Aug 2020 08:51 AM PDT Which do you like better? Why? Is there a less popular prospecting tool that's better than both? [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to sell mattresses and other furniture to hotels, apartments etc? Posted: 09 Aug 2020 09:40 PM PDT Hello. I work at furniture store. We sell mattresses as well. I was wondering if I could sell to hotels and apartments that are furnished, maybe dorms. I was just wondering if this was possible and how I would go about doing this. I don't know where to start or who to contact for something like this, but I know that it's done and was hoping someone here would know how to go about it. Thanks for reading. [link] [comments] |
First real sales job and need some advice Posted: 10 Aug 2020 08:04 AM PDT I was recently passed up (not even considered, they outsourced) for the management position at my old job (cell phone repair shop) so I started handing out resumes. I decided I wanted to move into sales because besides my charming personality (according to my mom) and good looks (thanks grandma) I have no formal education that is useful. I liked the sales aspect of my old job more than I did repairing, which is where a lot of stress came from. I ended up getting a position at a 3rd party dealer for a popular Canadian cell phone company. I have 3 red flags.
I've seen the numbers for last year (my location is the busiest) and I could make money, even with this new trash commission structure, but Covid has ruined it. I know this is my first sales job, i KNOW it could be worse - but my girlfriend is telling me to start looking elsewhere, I've applied but haven't heard anything yet. Should I tough out or get out? Posted: 10 Aug 2020 07:03 AM PDT I was born outside of Canada so my name isn't a name that's easy to remember. I've always wondered if it might be better to change my name on phone calls to something easier to remember for my cold calling ventures. Have you guys had a similar experience? If so how did it work out for you? I was also thinking of doing a test phase where I just call with my name and 1 week with a white nickname for the second week. [link] [comments] |
Channel Partnerships OTE - any ideas? Posted: 09 Aug 2020 03:36 PM PDT My OTE is ~$100K USD (70/30); SaaS startup based in major east-coast city (Boston/NYC/DC). My role is basically managing the entire partner lifecycle: from outbounding/developing new partner accounts, to farming accounts for leads (We operate on a referral basis - no reseller model yet). My comp is based on pipeline generated for AEs. Additional notes:
I have a feeling I'm being underpaid. Does anyone know if I am? If you're a channel manager/partnerships manager ... what is your OTE? [link] [comments] |

Where to find a good executive coach as a new sales director? Posted: 09 Aug 2020 04:01 PM PDT Anyone have recommendations for finding a good leadership coach or organization? Posted: 09 Aug 2020 08:33 PM PDT I keep reading about how AE's can make $250k in pre-sales. What are OTE's base + incentives for account managers? [link] [comments] |

Tips to avoid low-intent window-shopping "leads" Posted: 10 Aug 2020 12:08 AM PDT Hi folks, As I posted here recently I am a freelance writer on a mission to up my sales game to improve how I manage sales and marketing. My biggest pain point is the amount of low intent leads that I deal with. I was surprised to recently learn that this is a problem with inbound leads as much as outbound ones (in case I'm botching the terminology: those that come to me as well as those that I found). I have spent a lot of time talking to people that came across my writing, found what I did "interesting" and thought that it would be nice to have a "friendly chat" or an "exploratory" or "discovery" meeting. In my experience, these interactions rarely go anywhere. Most of my new business instead comes from referrals, but the only "leads" I typically have convert to work are those that express an immediate and clear intent to get some project done. As business is getting busy-er, my objective this year is to run a mean and lean sales funnel. I don't want to get on the phone with any more wishy-washy people that have vague prospective needs. I'd like to run a tighter funnel and be much more brutal about qualification so that I waste less time and can devote more time to nurturing my good leads. Any tips to get better at this? TIA.
